The bible story your talking about was about two woman claiming ownership a baby, so the king being wise said "ok fine, then ill cut him in half and you both shall have a child" knowing the real mother would forfeit control to save the child while the liar would be fine with that. He then gave the child to the woman who would rather spare the child and lose it than kill him over objectification of life

This is one of my favorite Tool songs.
When you actually listen to the lyrics it really hits home. Religious or not, this song is a great metaphor for how we all treat life. Makes you really think about yourself and the choices you have made.

You should check out Tool-Pneuma live!!!!! It's recorded from Danny's drums!!!! It is amazing 😁 Vic Firth recorded it and it's honestly the BEST live recording of them I've ever seen! Plus you really appreciate just how much of a GOAT Danny is♥️♥️👍
I always picture a couple angels observing humanity and wondering what the hell god was thinking when he gave humans free will and to kill each other so proficiently
The breakdown has a tribal thump to it the whole time but begins very simple, with new "technology" as in instruments, riffs, and effects adding on as it ramps up. Several points there sounds like a small war and a light setback and then it builds and builds. Eventually its a whole lot going on at once, out of control, and very technologic-industrial like when the robots take over. And then back to a sort of calm primitive again after the war that destroys all technology. The one mega riff is like the call-to-war trumpeting and occurs in some form or another before each little setback and the final setback.

Guys you should've listened to intension (the song leading up to right in two) before this, it's very tribal and minimalistic, it tells the story of of evolution through the song not only through the lyrics but also through the music itself. As the first half is very tribal and woody sounding but the second half very metallic and industrial (pay attention to the drums throughout the song), portraying the transition from cavemen to the industrial revolution, then leading into right in two where it gets more filodophical
It's really great that the first song you listened to was "Sober" because that was their first commercial success that made it on FM rotation in 1993. It was the introduction to Tool for most people including myself. Everyone cognisant of musical genius back then was astonished by Maynard's voice followed soon after by the astonishment of watched them rocket past all competition on the charts. We all remember running out to buy the year old album "Opiate." We all remember waiting impatiently for Aenima to drop three years later along with every disc jockey of worth. Everyone remembers the FM buzz post-release about how pop music was rotting on the vine and all "hollywood hippy" metal bands that couldn't evolve to the challenge would become extinct. Everyone remembers waiting for "Lateralus" to drop just before 911 and listening to "the Grudge," "Schism" and "Reflection" to calm us down as our world was coming apart at the seems. Everyone remembers the endless five year wait for 10.000 days and the euphoric shock of disbelief after hearing "Right in two." Most recently, Tool fans struggled to comprehend life through the thirteen year gap that just ended this year with "Fear Inoculum." Which was almost worth the wait seeing all the angry millennials when Fear Inoculum knocked Taylor Swift out of first place on the US Billboard 200 chart on it's opening week.
My friends, you listen to me, i am really happy, waiting for this video that is gonna to be awesome for sure, you are the best and you are definitely part of the TOOL ARMY (sorry for my english)

If you want to branch out a little, you may want to try something from one of Maynard's other two bands, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. One of my faves is Puscifer's "Man Overboard." Lots of layering and great percussion.

They are the closest band in my opinion there is to perfection. Nothing gets old. Such a classic and truely timeless catalog. The complexities of which i personally will probably never understand but only hope to. Cant appreciate them enough and its true 1 day a week isnt enough respect that these gentlemen deserve. Maynard isn't the band. Just because he has a side band, doesn't mean we have to listen to that side band. Don't get me wrong, I love love APC, always have, but this is a day for TOOL and only TOOl which is awesome for us die hard fans because no other Chanel does this. Keep up the good work guys.

I've watched a million TOOL reactions, and what I like about y'all is you are REAL. Not some BS trying to work the algorithm or whatever
People who say Maynard is not religious are not reading between the lines. He's not Christian or anything specific. But he clearly believes in the ultimate spirit. This song balances religion and evolution and how mankind has failed on both paths.

I have a bit to add so please bare with me.
I have been a fan of TOOL since the album OPIATE was released on 03/10/1992. I was 9 years old at that time.
I've seen TOOL live 6 times in my life and experienced 3 albums during those concerts. I've gone to those concerts sober and left feeling like I was having an insanely good trip everytime- i took nothing to be high or intoxicated.
I love watching both of your reactions to this particular song. It is possibly my favorite song and yes, this song illustrates a biblical story about king soloman using the tactical idea of threatening to split a baby "right in two" in order to see which alleged mother would be ok with it versus which mother would concede for the sake of her child living. Maynard uses this story as a means to metaphorically explain how our society today fails to swallow its pride and ambition for something as simple as "peices of the ground (territory)". This song also illustrates the point of view that Angel's in heaven might have despite the story of King Solomon as it pertains to people in society today.
I'm glad that we can find common ground in one aspect- TOOL seems to be much more than just the greatest group of musicans. What word could be used to optimistically explain this band I believe is either not yet know or simply not worthy.

This song, above all others, touches me deepest. It is profoundly relevant to humanity as a whole. Especially with our current political climate. But, to be fair, when Maynard wrote this, the same climate existed. Otherwise, there would be no reason to write it. There aren't a ton of words, and the vocabulary isn't as complex as some songs, but the message is crisp and you'll see just how crisp. Can't wait.

You guys and your channel deserve more attention. Your reactions and discussions of the songs are so much more succinct and profound than those of other reaction channels.
Another band from that era that can take you on “trips” is Radiohead. Start with the album “OK Computer” and start with the first track. It was the soundtrack to my senior year of high school. Also,.. go old school Tool.. “Opiate” of off the Opiate album. Early Tool is just as awesome, and you can hear their youth.
