McLaren CHARGES $600 For This Oil Change... I REFUSE To Pay Them

  • I bought this 2012 McLaren MP4-12C for just $76,000 in Anaheim, California and drove 1,400 miles home. It's had plenty of random issues that seem to come and go, but if there's one thing I want to be sure of, it's that the car has fresh oil. The last thing I want to be doing is replacing a $30,000 engine. The dealer charges $600 to do this service and I thought it would be easy to knock it out myself in a few minutes. It turns out this is actually a pretty big job that can be done at home but it's much easier on a 2 post lift. Getting access to all the drains and pulling nearly 40 bolts out takes some room and quite a bit of time... that said if you do it yourself it's only a $75 job.

@Dick Feelgood I've got a 570s, it has full exhaust, injectors, intake, and map switching between 93 and Ignite Red. Plans for it is cooling and upgraded Turbos... My previous one was probably around 800-900whp. Needless to say... There's a lot of stuff you can modify! There's even meth systems available for them now and fully built blocks.
      Also, Vehicle Virgin's car was a 600LT not 570s

The F1 was McLaren's 1st stab at a low volume supercar but it took 100's of hours to make because the carbon tub manufacturing process wasn't viable for mass production at the time hence the high price when it was released! The 12c was a quarter of the price I think? They could make the 12c tub in a matter of hours and that tub hasn't changed much throughout later models.

Maclaren didn't build the F1 to go racing. Gordon Murray designed it for the road. Afterwards clients asked them to then build race prepared cars.

You should put a quieter exhaust on it to appreciate the Meridian sound system. The door not wanting to shut when the windows are up must indicate the cabin seals like a submarine.

It would be cool if the former owner got in touch with you and gave you some history on the car.

Most don’t want to because they knew of the issues before trading and some do shady stuff. As you see with other youtubers who get a turd that turns out to be diarrhea. Engine swaps from OEM, or high dollar items changed out, or they throw in some thick Lucas oil and it’s gonna throw a rod. Hopefully he gets semi lucky and like he mentioned, maybe the rattle is cam phasers.
