Mclaran plugs is motor out job at the dealer ....
Alex If you have to ask how much at the dealer you can't afford it mentality
Alex, prior to reassembling that engine bay, please clean it thoroughly or I will be extremely irritated. Thanks 😂
Love you guys. Congratulations on the McLaren. It would be great content to take it on the track. Just, please, provide a perspective looking out the windshield. When it comes to driving videos, consider at least 70 percent of the footage looking out the windshield and 30 percent selfie. Thanks.
sound as a pound
I just love how you aren't intimidated by any car brand. because you know most people are going to take this to the dealership. You just showed everyone it can be fixed on a budget
Everyone knew that already they’d rather spend the money then go through the hassle
All cars are essentially put together the same
It's not rocket science
A true master mechanic.
The thing is nobody driving one of these cares about budget work
I don't think most people that can buy a fucking McLaren care about fixing things on a budget LOL
I just watched an hour of LSC, and it wasn't enough. That proves without a shadow of a doubt that you, my friends, are superstars.
When they first popped up on my TV I watched them 3 days straight several hrs a day. I figured I should sub??
A went like nothing 👍👍👍

@@alexyoung8983 Who's Dick? Is that British slang?
Superstars in Supercars. A new series this Spring starring Alex and Peter.
Learning that the McLaren uses a hopped up Nissan motor really takes the fear out of owning one as it's now relatable and not a mysterious black box under the hood. Great job, guys!
I will surely keep that in mind when I buy my McLaren. xD
Originally based on the engine in the R390 GT1. McLaren engines are built by Ricardo.
OK, a few tips from a Nissan Mastertech first off always put a little dab of anti-seize on your plug. Because often times aluminum doesn’t like steel and you certainly don’t want to pull the plug out of that which includes some of the cylinder head threads. Also, when you put the cold packs in, make sure you put a dab of dielectric grease on the end of the boot this will help two things one help you get the coal out in case it decides to glue itself to the spark plug and it also helps seal moisture out. Also put a dab of dielectric grease in the connector that goes onto the coal for the same reasons. A big tip on getting these connectors off is to spray them with some rust penetrant, and that will soak in to the seal when you wiggle it around and we are immensely help getting these plastic connectors off which you’re always prone to explode in your hand, take care from Jay Tiger in Thailand
Most plugs don't recommend you putting antiseeze on them. Especially NGK. I would not brag to much about being a Nissan master tech. Almost as bad as one from dodge trying to brag
I understand your point about the anti-sieze on the plugs, but then you really have to be careful when you're torquing them down because as you should know, that's going to change your torque specs and you could easily over torque them and strip your head.
@@williamardenjr116 funny you mention that in my 29 years of automotive torture, I also achieved a master Honda tech and a master Dodge Chrysler Jeep tech. but the smartest thing I ever did is quit working on cars go back to college and achieved an engineering degree and finished up with a 4.0 grade average. not that I’m a genius I just did a whole lot of studying. i’m curious where you saw that recommendation I believe you, but I had never seen that recommendation. I worked on a lot of 300ZX is with the 3 L motor and some of the plugs were super scary getting out required a good shot of rust penetrant and many back and forth to get the plug out and sometimes they still carried some threads with them. once you put anti-seize on the new plugs, they always came out with ease. I always put a small amount of anti-seize on plug threads and I have never had a problem getting them out or any kind of drivability problems. It does have a change the friction coefficient of the threads so you have to be easy on talking them in, and there is a calculation for the type of lubricant, you put on the threads and the reduction in force to achieve the same clamping force.
@@williamardenjr116 Lol you need to get to the burns ward. Jay Martin just incinerated you.
@@williamardenjr116 Maybe proof read your dig? Ya think NGK is going to buy you new hardware!? wow
Alex's ability to call sellers, retailers, etc and ask a million questions is impressive.
I personally wouldn't have the patience to do that..
Anyone that’s worked as a parts guy for a shop does this every 30 minutes when the shop is open.
It me.
That’s how we used to do things before internet. I used to buy 5.0 magazines and call the sellers in the ads and ask a bunch of questions then not buy any thing lol.
What he cuts out is he starts the conversation with im a youtuber with almost 1 million followers.
@@coolstreetman that was my first thought when the Mclaren tech asked if he wanted parts instead of directly trying to schedule work in the shop
The McLaren dealers don’t call you back because you say more sophisticated things than “it isn’t working and my wife and I need to go to the golf course… Can I just drop it off and you bill me?” And they think it’s a prank lol
I love this channel. In a crazy turbulent world this is free therapy.
Alex check the air filter again the seal looked damaged if a small piece broke off it could be sucked into the engine, and btw love the content!
Peter’s face during acceleration! PURE JOY!!!
Being in the high end exotic car repair business, I can tell you those early McLarens are a nightmare. Best of luck with it though.
Nicely done. Love it when the fix is... "simple". Noticed that second COP boot that you showed on camera looked like it had some signs of arching as well, could have been one of your other misfires! Can't wait to see more and how long it takes to break with you guys actually taking care of the car.
Fantastic content guys, greetings from England 👍 can't wait for the dyno run and nice to see some UK metal getting spannered

I skipped back and watched it a couple of times...he literally exudes happiness and excitement! Makes me feel what he's feeling even though I'm not in the car with them.
Peter is a true gem of the show. I am not saying Alex is not entertaining but with Peter it is on another level
Jolly fellow…
Always a blast watching you guys in action! Always waiting for the next video like Saturday cartoons lol 😅. You guys make your content so much more enjoyable with your shenanigans. Favorite channel for real! Keep up the good work.
Like so many others, I'm amazed I just spent an hour watching and enjoying this (like most of your videos). I came here to just catch a little snippet, but got hooked. It is a blast to watch all the traffic disappear around you so quickly when you show off your transmission. That thing rips.
There is seriously nothing cooler than seeing Alex fix a 275k super car like it’s no different than a f body or mustang. So awesome. Great Saturday morning viewing.
Discovery and Motor Trend TV don’t have any car shows that compare. Car Issues doesn’t count cause that’s Hoovie and weezard.
Hoovie and weezer never show actually fixing stuff...
VGG
I think Peter added a lot of charm to the crew. There is only so much monologue you can have when you are wrenching. Definitely pro level of production.
It is so encouraging seeing hobbyists and specialists gear up for these McLarens. They are great cars and deserve the support when main dealer servicing ceases to be economically viable. The engine was developed for Nissan's racing team by Riccardo so was an off the shelf solution when McLaren came calling. RON will be Ron Dennis, former boss of McLaren :)
This car will push you very fast in the golden ligue for millions of subscribers 😊 Keep posting about it for some time, it will help a lot. You deserve to be on top above many of your youtubers competitors

@@LegitStreetCars great job Alex from New Hampshire! You're the freaking man brother!
@@LegitStreetCars very precise in everything you do and very well spoken. Must say you carry yourself well brother and that is something you don't find often nowadays. Much respect y'all one of if not the top 5 best car channels on YT.
Thomas's scores have a way of capturing and driving the feel of scenes unlike anyone that's ever done it. A great score can lift a film to another level for me. Shawshank's ending chokes me up everytime I watch it. The greatest ending and the greatest score. Passengers, Road to Perdition, Saving Mr Banks, Bridge of Spies and more... fantastic !
Nothing but smiles here for the test drive. Mclaren, all day every day.
Alex, I want to thank and credit you as well as all of the other DIY automotive channels on UA-cam because collectively you are all giving us at home the confidence to just get in there and do it and not to be afraid to just try. You and Peter are probably the most impactful in that sense, but I just want to thank the community as a whole. I never saw myself working on my own cars, and I am now doing more heavily involved repairs because of channels like this.
Seriously, thank you, and don’t ever stop sharing and encouraging!

As a British guy knowing a fair bit of mechanic slang I'd say the Throttle Body needs to be "nipped up" meaning not overly tight.
Love this channel. 😁
Peter's reactions are so STINKIN CUTE!!! lmao. Love how you fix it yourself with an off the shelf Bosch part. Looking forward to future content on this car, I'm a Benz head but never anything McLaren. :)
12c owner, great vid, awesome info on the nissan parts! I will note that it runs great on winter tires as well. I didn't like the ISG sound personally. I've taken mine everywhere, including farm roads up in the mountains (pnw); as long as you drive slow, it drives great.
Alex, For those long spark plugs with bad access, try a snug fitting piece of hi pressure ( ply reinforced ) fuel hose for starting and snugging down, then wrenching tight to finish with socket... this saves a lot of tiny 1/8 turns with ratchet wrench ! The hose is also MUCH better for "feeling" the threads to avoid cross threading damages. Scuffing up exterior of hose with sandpaper for your hands, aids in gripping with gloves or greasy fingers.
To help with water intrusion (due to heat/cool cycles and capillary effects) in electrically sensitive areas, try the old "Aqua Net" hairspray trick ! The aqua net repels water from hair, and will do so on spark plugs and wire connections quite well, remember to let it dry on plug and wires before assembling since it's flammable when wet ! It acts a bit like the Rain X windshield product vs water.
Do you know if the body wrap is blocking the door opening sensor(s) ? I watched other 12C videos and it seems like you don't need to swipe so much as hold hand in the correct spot for a second or two... is it temp sensitive, magnetic field sensing or an optical sensor ?
This show is literally network quality material. Hard to believe it's not on Discovery+. Great job guys.
Not sure trading their freedoms for a network show that MIGHT make them more money is great.
I’m glad it isn’t so they can actually control what they do, remain in control and make their own money 💰
@@andrewpanciotti5518 this. Fuck networks, stay independent.

Awesome video. You two looks so happy on the road. Makes me smile.
The MP4 name stood for "Marlboro Project Four" and was introduced by former CEO Ron Dennis when he merged his F2 team, Project Four Racing, with McLaren in 1981. Since then each new car's name had the prefix "MP4" followed by a type number in ascending order.
McLaren dropped the MP4 prefix when Ron Dennis left at the end of 2016. From 2017 they have used MCL which is an abbreviation of McLaren.
They now go by p1u for parliament 100s unfiltered
You and Peter are really the dynamic duo at this point, i love when he gets excited like a little kid lmao
Mind blown on the proces. Great video I loved it!!!
What I've realized looks and feels neater is instead of wrapping electrical tape around your swivels and then them having a residue stuck on them I like to get an "O" ring and put it on the swivel and it stiffens it up a bit and still works as it should
I always skip 1 hour long video EXCEPT for Alex. He has so much motivation & able to solve challenges, with so much positivity.
We need more people like legit team ! 👍
I'm wondering if the wrap is interfering with the swipe door opener? Great job on the car guys!
Really enjoyed the video...especially since it fixed the issues. Tom Walkinshaw Racing worked with Nissan to develop the engine for a project that never materialized. McLaren bought the rights to the engine from Walkinshaw. I have a 720.
Love that your progressing. The exposed carbon looks sick. Can’t wait for the next vid
I love that car. I think it's all the better for being the "cheap one". People are so afraid of maintenance on these, but doing the work yourself not only saves tons of money and makes you feel like a genius, it's very fun to watch.
And it gives you a better understanding of how the car really works
Alex, there’s truly nothing better than a clean working environment. One of the many great things about you is whether how big or small the job is, you always make it a point to clean, and it really cures my OCD. Nothing drives me crazier then someone putting dirty parts back on 😂 You guys rock, especially for having the balls to work on a mclaren, love it!
Love those smiles with those revs. biggest ones i've seen so far, super smiles for super car
This is super chill to watch. You guys are cool. Good stuff, keep it up, y'all are homies
I don’t know what I enjoy more the mechanical aspect of the show or the back and fourth banter between you and Peter!! Great job as always guys👍🏼
I've been following you for quite awhile now..
This show actually shows the greed that big car companies have..
Thank you for educating the world about it..
You guys are Awesome
Thank you for every program you put out..
I watch all of them🙂
Maintenance costs are really high, I agree with you on that one.
But for the MSRP: People tend to forget how expensive the engineering for a supercar with low production numbers can be, not even mentioning the countless hours specialized mechanics work on them to put them together
I bought a 12c February 2022 with about $20k of issues at McLaren prices and fixed them all for about $5k, I've done about 6k miles since and car has been amazing on the street and at the track.
. Love the series and subscribed!

Ron '98 is, of course, Ron Dennis, McLaren boss for many years. He would always sign each car somewhere, under the dash or in your case in the fuel filler. When you had the Rolls Royce, you would have found 'Henry' written inside the heater trunking. As for Gutentight, we say 'jolly tight old chap'.
RON - The research octane number (RON) is defined as the percentage by volume of iso-octane in a mixture of iso-octane and n-heptane that knocks with some intensity as the fuel is being tested. An octane rating, or octane number, is a standard measure of a fuel's ability to withstand compression in an internal combustion engine without detonating. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating. Octane rating does not relate directly to the power output or the energy content of the fuel per unit mass or volume, but simply indicates gasoline's capability against compression.
