- My second Les Paul build.
A sound check of this build: • A soundcheck of a self...
Video on youtube of my first build.
There is also a look on how the duplicarver dummy top is made.
Used for both guitars. And more detail of the duplicarver itself.

That's a really beautiful burst you created on this one.
Just so Beautiful, I assume this is even superior that the Gibsons, because it’s made with love and passion.
Love and passion? It's a Guitar not a blow up doll.
@@manofthewest67
That's for sure.
@@wkmetaal just as a matter of interest do you make and sell a basic shell of this guitar? Shaped, drilled, fretted and vetted?
@@manofthewest67
Not in the first couple of years.
@@manofthewest67 it's sad you associate love and passion with a blow up doll.
Its nice to see someone use the correct truss rod when making a les Paul
Fantastic work! Beautiful!
Very nice work!
Beautiful guitar! Amazing work!❤❤❤
That's a really great looking guitar. The burst is so nice.
Beautiful work of art and love ❤️
I like the old style bridge where the threaded rod is screwed into the body until bottomed out. Then the thumb wheels, like the ‘59 had. I have a 2022 ‘50s standard that I did the Faber 3117 plus on, and I think it makes a difference. It got rid of the shrill sounding highs current Les Paul’s have, and seems more woody sounding.
Thanks for your tip. I looked them up for a while, looks good. I am now working on my third Les Paul maybe I will apply it here.
Wow beautiful guitar..and the tone is amazing. Great job
Killer work!
You are very organized and methodical. You plan the dimensions, materials, tools, methods, everything right down to the most minute details before you even start. This video is a master class on how to build a superior guitar. Of course it looks just gorgeous. 👍👍
Thanks for youre nice comment.
Absolutely Awesome!!!!! Outstanding build.
Wow. Amazing!!!!!
That's a brilliant design for the headstock sanding jig!!
Great job!
Hi Freddy,
First of all,
thank you very much for your response.
I am very honored to receive your comment.
Your 12-part video series on youtube about the construction of a LP was the inspiration and advice source for me. I have viewed these frequently. Beautiful guitars you build there.
I copied the duplicator you use there (I am a welder by profession) and also used it in my first LP construction. also seen on youtube.
Next month I start my third build. Keep up the good work.
with kind regards, WK
The Netherlands.
Very a talented man
Beautiful
Amazing build. Such a beauty 💖 reminds me of a prs I had that was stolen.. amazing guitar brother!!
Thanks for your comment, sad to hear it was stolen.
Amazingly crafted, congratulations!! love to watch how some pieces of wood comes from a square block to a beautiful instrument. BTW That store with all the wood pieces looks like a candy store XD cheers!
Thanks for the nice comment. And yes im very happy with that wood store, not far away only 50km .
Love the fact that you chose slash to cover
Sounds great
Thanks for the comment.
Yes I am very happy with it, sounds really good.
She is a beauty.
Mooie gitaar! Gefeliciteerd!
Lovely.
Mooi eindresultaat!
Oh wow, that is really quite beautiful. Well done.
Wauw prachtig werk! Maar Arnhem is the place dus! Mooi resultaat!
I'd like to hear clean sound too. Thank you.
Very nice indeed, I had an epiphone like this minus the flame mog and ebony fretboard. If I thought Gibson still made these with this level of care and attention I would consider sinking my hard earned into one, alas.
Wow!
Hey, nice work! Congratulations! Where did you get the humbucker rings?
Thank you for your comment. The rings are bought at Stewmac.
Interesting choice of bridge and mounting hardware. Why did you go with a Nashville style bridge and posts screwed into studs rather than posts screwed into the would like an actual '59? Great looking build just curious about those choices.
Thanks for te comment.
These nickel Gotoh Tune-O-Matic bridge and Gotoh tailpiece doing there job very well.
They came with this type of post into studs (metric m8). It is a little thicker maybe, but also good stable.
But for '59 LP , no!
@HashiAkitaPuppy
And i do not like the construction that the very small diameter post are direct/straight into the wood, even it's original.
@wkmetaal that's where you get the twangy vintage les paul tone. That and light weight stop bars.
Do you have any plans or dimensions for that neck angle sanding jig?
Still a bit orange skin finnish though polished, wouldn't you say?
Very very nice. Impressive. Was it difficult to find a nice quartersawn (I mean really quartersawn) figured maple at the Arnhem fijnhouthandel?
Thank you for the comment.
Every single piece of wood is marked with a “Q” when it is quatersawn wood.
And every piece has the price written on it.
It seems to me that they interpret the concept of quarter sawn quite broadly.@@wkmetaal
A lovely bit of woodwork but the finish lets it down - you didn't flat all the orange peel enough. It's a nice guitar though and I bet it sounds fantastic. I always struggled with finishing as well until I discovered sanding sealer.
Thanks for the comment.
All the orange peel is polished away, nice flat and smooth.
Wow , what a tool .
Looks great! Out of curiousity, do you remember how thick the maple top was before carving?
The maple top is approximately 19mm / 0.75” when it’s glued on. After carving and sanding there will be 16mm / 0.63” over on it’s thickest point.
Great built, what's the diameter of that trussrod drill, is it Gibson vintage style about 18mm or Gibson modern style about 14mm ?
It is a self made drill with diameter16mm, it is Les Paul '59 style. (@Bartlettguitarparts drawing)
Buying the original drill? at Stewmac.com - truss rod access cutter.
I would have wet sanded it to remove the orange peel from painting and then polished it up. But nice job, the seymour Duncan pickups sound nice and distorted.
Thanks for the comment.
All the orange peel is polished away, looks great.
i couldn't get pass the metric bridge but why?
Why the SCARF Joint, was it for strength over a 1-Piece construction?
Yes it is.
Do you make your own temples or you buy them nice les Paul guitar build
I do both.
I’d like to know how you made the jig to use the donut ring.
Here you can see more of this jig.
ua-cam.com/users/shorts_QvfQpZ-A94?si=Umue1JnPeTLVIwE5
It has two drawer guides.
I’m 52. Would you consider taking on an apprentice?
hello.hello, what is the width of the case?
I enjoyed that. Thanks 😊
are you taking commissions
you can make some guitar on commission?
Hai sir im from malaysia....i just want to knw are u selling that Lp.? How much the price?
Thanks for the comment.
I never sell this guitar , i'am playing it every day. In March 2024 i start my third LP build. I'am selling that new build.
But that will not to be sent.
Woooooooooooooooow
Why didn’t you get a lighter piece of mahogany?
Nice build
The build and video were magic and then you killed it with the ear shattering awful sound at the end
I’m so weird. This is like my 5th video in 2 day. I think I want to make a les paul.
Why a scarf joint? Seeing a joint on my neck would drive me crazy but that’s just my OCD
A scarf joint (imo) is the strongest method of angling the headstock. And the wood grains is in the same direction than the headstock.
Why scarf joint and not one piece neck.
A scarf joint (imo) is the strongest method of angling the headstock. And the wood grains is in the same direction than the headstock.
Beautiful! (However start date 7-4-23 and finish date 5-8-23 need to be corrected ;) )
Thanks for the comment.
Yes that’s maybe confusing.
There is a difference between the American date format and British/Netherlands date format.
The build started april the seventh-2023. and finished at august the fifth-2023.
@@wkmetaal My mistake... Ignorance on my part. Again, beautiful work!.
Lol my LP build started April 2022 and finished April 2023! Watching this brought back lots of fond memories, and some head scratching (“HOW did I that part??”). Nice job - looks and sounds great!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎵🎶🎶🎵🎵
You should not have put the grey filler. Looks wrong and kills the 3D effect
could have done without the crappy elevator music, nice build though
Beautiful work, but it would be so much easier done with a CNC machine!
Chambered. 😫😫😒😒
Why do you write chambering is negative. I'm building my first from Redwood and weighing options.
@@thomascantasano7816 it's not negative it's just different. I have played them AB and for me I prefer the tonal difference of unchambered. This is just my personal opinion, but to me it sounds like a Les Paul but thinned out and watered down. I think they sound a lot closer to a hollow body but that may be a preference you like. 🤷🏻♂️
59s were not weight reduced. rediculas. but you made a nice fake guitar
Its boring ro watch your still camera images
People who don't understand the pricing on Les Paul's need to watch your video. 🫡
I think that's because this is hand made and a lot has gone into it. And it shows.
These days, Gibson throws a plank in a machine and a Les Paul guitar comes out almost ready for finishing.
Then, they slap a binding on, stain the body, forget to scrape down the binding properly, ignore the fret ends and push it out the door with the lacquer still not set.
Meanwhile, Cort, Schecter, PRS and many others are all putting out guitars with more features, better materials, better craftsmanship with a neck joint that won't snap with a slight knock, for half the price.
And they do that so that people can look at them and say "I mean, it's alright but it's not a Gibson"
That's why we don't understand the price on the average Les Paul.
There is obviously a lot of work that goes into making a guitar.; any guitar really. But keep in mind Gibson is doing all this on a production line. Yes, American labor is more expensive than Chinese or Indonesian labor, but a huge part of the $3000+ price on a American Les Paul Standard is frankly the name.
Modern Gibson's are mass produced , nothing like the handmade beauty in this video .
Gibson has better tools and computerized and does this much faster
@russelmurray9268 read the other comments that's where gibson falls. Due to mass produce by computer it's should be cheaper. Spending 3k and th binding is trash, and the frets need sanding. Some other corrections as well. This handmade instrument is far superior than gibson. And I bet for 1500 this will be worth it. You are paying for the name. Instead of quality.
You stacking the bearings on that bit instead of just flipping the body upside down and putting a top follow bearing bit in gave me the most anxiety I've ever experienced my God was that unsafe
Sorry for that bad feeling, Youre right about flipping the body upside down and use a top follow baring.
I did it this way so i can routing smaller steps at the time, in 3 or 4 passes. The spread of these bearings is perfect for it, very stable.
