    Soon as the oil hit the wood, I was stunned with the silky folds of the quitled maple you chose for the top, and loved the pearl, abalone, and resin inlays used throughout the build. Absolutely gorgeous 💜💜💜💜💜

    Does quilt maple become that way because of the way it's cut from the tree / rough timber? Thank you 🤓 what was your final grit # on the maple, just before the stain?

    Not a huge Quilt lover. Much prefer Flame or Spalt. The craftsmanship is undeniable. Gibson doesn't build them this nice. They rush them through and their quality control is not as stringent as it should be.

    if i was gonna pay 10 grand for a guitar this is the type i would buy, not a custom shop gibson or fender, a HAND MADE guitar ...

    I really like the wood chosen for the project. As a traditionalist, you almost lost me with the eurothene pour but it turned out a nice accent to the guitar and made it personalized to you, so good on ya. For me, I think the real let down was in the sound of the guitar. It didn't sound even close to an Epiphone or a real Gibson and after all that work and the body turning out so beautifully it was disappointing to have that result just because of a little attention to detail. With the right pick-ups and better electronics set of splits I think your guitar could sound at least far superior to an Epiphone...it would just depend on the glue you used. Personally I would have used a hide glue to provide a much better resonance within the guitar but live and learn. There is always the next ES 335 OR ES 339 OR 359 that you can build next. Keep up the good work. Your young & this coukd be your career for a lifetime.

    I’ve purchased quite a few enthusiast made guitars in the past, and while they were all beautiful in some way, they amounted to nothing more than guitar shaped furniture. For some reason each one had poor intonation and warps in the neck. There’s definitely a real science involved in building a functioning guitar rather than just making one.

      Very interesting comment… 👍 I also wonder sometimes if all those uber beautiful guitars, especially the ones that win contests like the Great Guitar Build Off, actually also sound as nice on stage or in a studio. The builder’s craftsmanship, passion, creativity and attention to detail are always admirable and great to watch, no question.

    i'd like to see a solid top cap instead of 2 pieces. you don't see that often. maybe because of the extra time it would take. i guess that's why it became acceptable to have a line running down the middle of the guitar. my personal opinion is it doesn't look good. it takes away from the quality and the overall aesthetics. i feel like if you're building a high quality one off doing a solid cap would be one way you could set yourself apart from everyone else. this guitar is gorgeous though :)

    • @hughjarrse
      @hughjarrse 2 роки тому +2

      The two piece tops come from the bookmatched backs of violins, and because sold guitars don't really rely on on the woods used to channel tone (violins have one piece tops) the aesthetic of the book match took off (often called fiddleback) people like symmetry 🙂

    The hole in the headstock ruins the guitar. It should be the correct shape with a different logo. A Les Paul has an undeniable shape. Don't change it.
