This song came out about the time my wife divorced me. I had children that were wrenched from me. I would rather have had my guts torn out. Thank God or something I made it out alive. For some crazy reason this song gave me strength. Thank you
I hope everything and everyone is well now. This song has so many memories for so many folks(It carried me out of a bad breakup with a boyfriend. Luckily, I met my husband of 19 years afterwards) I'm wishing you good luck😉😄
Man well said. We all have moved on from the 90's and so have they. Still so good, when I hear this I miss those carefree days.... will never have it back.
Couldn't agree more :) ...Live is where we witness greatness or lack of it. Singers must adapt their voice and tone through their aging and this version tops the studio version.
You couldn't be more wrong. He sounds a little flat in this performance but still good vibes in his voice nonetheless 💯 Saw them a week ago and he sounded incredible
@@jayhendricks6594 Actually, he/they sound exactly the way they did live in 1999/2000, which is to say TERRIBLE. Back in those days of rock music festival group tours, these guys were very disappointing, Patrick's voice in particular. Other groups like STP and Godsmack would come on stage after, completely blow them out of the water and expose them for the studio creation they were. And believe me, I actually like Filter.
@@chfpontiac5849 chfpontiac My opinion was just that I dig the good vibes in his vocals here but trully was stating that they kicked ass a few months ago live. Hell yeauh about STP and Godsmack though but think of how hard Richard was screaming for the 6 years prior to 1999.
Impressive and very cool that Filter can pull off the original performance and sound of this classic 1999 song. But I think it was the MTV 'Official Music Video' of this song and band that makes it still so cool and classic even still in 2024. Peace to All
define what you mean a "decent" lol they all gonna sound completely different than recorded version , the guy just cant hit the signature notes of the song that makes it memorable in the recording , actually he cant delivery it at all live . ive seen them live 4 times and its bad everytime. seem like nice guys tho if that counts lol the band itself is decent
@@bryancollins6903 are you thinking of the one with his stone temple pilots band? The singer from filter did a band called Army of Anyone and they did AOL sessions, thats the only one ive heard good
What is the guitar peda/ effect used on the chorus... the guitar appears the "scream" on each cord pregression! This is something that happens on the original... but I had always thought it was a synth effect. It's a full sound effect almost like a volume increase of each individual chorus cord.
It’s live music, what do you expect? I purposely search for ‘live’ to see and hear something different than the record. Not perfect but who cares, the song still stands the test of time.
As someone whose musical tastes started with bands like this, and has transitioned to jam bands like Phish and Grateful Dead, I've become accustomed to bands that change up how songs are performed, so that the songs don't become stale. With bands like that, each performance is unique, as if the original song is simply a template, a canvas, an outline. This was not that. This was a bad performance. Quite frankly, this sounded like someone heard the song on the radio once, and 3 years later was asked to sing the song. The singer either didn't rehearse at all, or he lost all of his prowess since they first recorded the studio version.
Ugh. As a musician, this is frustrating to watch. You can tell he’s sick of playing it all these years. It’s the one song I can think of where I will never get tired of hearing it. Doesn’t hurt that the recording was mixed by a badass.
This song also probably meant so much to him when he wrote it that it's like replaying a difficult memory over and over again to crowds who like the sound mostly. The lyrics are sing-songy too, so it might feel like the meaning behind it gets lost to the crowd he plays to. Also, cheers to 2020 3 years later lol
I don't know why people say this is a bad performance. Richard Patrick is singing really well (I mean the beginning is a bit spotty but hey) it's just that he sings certain parts differently which is fine. He changed the way he sang the chorus which was kind of odd but still his pitch and control were fantastic. Other than things being sang a bit differently, I can't see how people would say this is bad performance. Solid band. Great singer.
It’s like they’re trying to jam this and it’s not a song that’s meant to be jammed. Plus the “I’m so tired of playing this song I’ll mangle the phrasing just to screw with everyone” trick.
Bands have bad nights, this really looks like one of them. The drums are excellent. The bass player fucked up around the one minute mark. If I didn't know better, I'd say the singer was drunk. Must have been a turbulent time.
I still play this track in 2023.. Great song 🎶

Same here only mine took off with my kids and left the state with an ex convict drug addict!!! Ripped me to shreds. Fathers get the shitty end!!!!!
Keep trucking bro. Good on ya
@@alexanderwiser2711 Time heals. Things are good. Bless you
Hey man we had a similar expeiance at the time. Except I didn't have children.I was listening to Filter a lot in the late 90s
brilliance can never be underrated, only the ones who understand can truly appreciate this
They never could do a close performance of the studio version, Its a shame because the song is great.
Its a shame that life is does not replicate it's self.. forever changing with the ebbs and flows of the moment
The song is better acoustic
@@harmbates123 it does not have an autotune :-)
Absolute crap performance. Everyone in the audience was robbed of their money.
They probably could for some reason Richard just likes to sing the chorus differently
one of the soundtrack of my all time favorite movie ever THE GIRL NEXT DOOR!!!
Yes
Except it was out long before then...
I discovered this song on The Girl Next Door. Quality high school drama and a great song.
Little nickkyyy
Bro that movie had an amazing soundtrack one of best I’ve ever heard still love it to this day
Beautiful LIVE performance !!! My spirit feel's this.
I love the randomness of life..the perfection of imperfection
Man well said. We all have moved on from the 90's and so have they. Still so good, when I hear this I miss those carefree days.... will never have it back.
this song is personification of “carefree” imo
I just made a similar comment to someone complaining. Leave a little bark on the tree. Perfection often kills the realism🤘🏾🤘
Great performance.
It ,s definitely 👍 music for the soul ,very spiritual y uplifting
Hey, the screaming part is great. fits that dry raspy vocals
The singing is good for his age. Jesus people come down to earth sometime?
It’s out of key and timing on many occasions so it’s really bad actually.
@@tg8603 you try singing on stage after 25 years of screaming, if you have nothing better to say than absolute shit, then stfu 😑
For his age? Tell that to Pattie and Gladys.
This guy is up there with the best!

If you want perfection stay home listen to the record..sometimes live catches something better than the record

Great looking crowd and audience. The love the music so does i
Richard you are the best
omg just for this song I bought the cd and those time of my rock crazy life
That voice is shot. Completely used out
Can you imagine all that screaming night after night.. not easy to pull off live. He is gonna have good nights and bad nights.

One of my favorite songs rn but have yet to find a decent live version. Anyone know of one??

That is the live version I am suggesting.... peace
Take a Picture live @ Soundwave 2014 with Chino Moreno

Lol ok.
He can sing it better than i.

holy shit, is this what i sound like when in sing Fliter? WoW
Oh my God. What a bumpy presentation. put down the guitar and focus on singing

Are you listening to the same song as we are? His voice is so messed.
Rhythms and pitch are good from his voice but his tone sounds mega shot, almost like he’s gonna crack. Luckily he doesn’t, I can appreciate that lol
he can barely get the verses out
Spot on, all you peeps who compare this to the studio version, get a life, until you have been on stage playing this song, zip it.

I kind of feel like the title of this video should say disclaimer, lead singer is sick! Or has become an avid smoker lol
“Hey daaaddddd, what do you think about your son now!!??” ... “That you suck live, son. But your band is pretty tight.”
Straight facts brother
My son and I got 98% singing this on the game🤣 We both did vocals and he was on guitar 😆
Great song that needs to be left in the studio. That was embarrassing to watch.
Dang I don’t normally advocate for lip syncing but they should consider it. He sounds terrible.
very sloppy set
Feck……Johnny Knoxville rocks
he forgets the words
wtf?
Drugs?

I don't like how he sings live but still a great song
