I built one of these with a 350 years ago. You can get rid of the body lift by going to an MSD short distributor with a crank trigger. I would also recommend upgrading the rear third member. It won’t last long with that torque. Even if you drive it gently. Nice project. Looks like a lot of the work os already done. Can’t wait to see where you go with it.
I’d like to see a custom bumper on this truck similar to the one you did on the Tacoma truck….I have a 93 pickup (original owner)and I have learned a lot from your videos, thank you! I would purchase the front bumper plans from the Tacoma if I knew it would work for my 93 with a 3.5” body lift. I also have 37” tires….i never liked the look of body lifts either so I put side steps on it to cover the frame and I think it looks pretty good, people comment everywhere I go that they like it as well. Thank again!…Your skills and attention to detail are 2nd to none.
Got to love the state that doesn’t mind owner dropping in different engine in their vehicle 😊 But some rad lockers, in cab adjustable air shocks, load carrying roll cage, rear steer, any side winching, in cab front stabilizer disconnect, PSC steering… got to see you fab some of these crazies must have

Its difficult to recommend something without knowing how much time and money you are willing to spend on the build. You mentioned you want to do something different. I cant think what have you not done in the past. Is this perhaps going to be a pretty much standard build except for the motor and transmission which has already been done by the previous owner and perhaps to drop the lift a bit? We will have to wait and see. Whatever you do they turn out great. Thanks for sharing.

Can you put the body on an 80 chassis with a 1UZ V8. I ask because that’s what I’m trying to do and you can figure out all the issues for me 😂 . Seriously though looks like a great start. You’re right though the body lift looks bad. Maybe just tidy it up and shift the engine forwards so you can lower the body down.
Crazy idea, swap that V8 for a Toyota 1HD-FTE Inline six, 24 valve single overhead cam(you read that correctly!) turbocharged direct injection mechanical(though electronically controlled) Diesel, usually found in Land Cruisers but I'm morbidly curious if it would fit in a Lux.
I think you had a freshen up the motor go through it all go through the transmission transfer case and get a set of Dana 44s for the front and rear and do a nice paint job that you did on the FJ I think it’ll be all right or put a little diesel motor in it at the matter but since you have the 350 might as well use thatkeep up the good work thank you
That thing has some major positive camber. All in all it's not a bad truck to fix all the things you don't like. Those diffs will probably complain about the V8. At least it doesn't have a 3.0 🤷
You gotta sas it! I’d keep the 350 and unfortunately I think you’d have to keep the body lift. Regardless what you do I’m excited to see you work on it! If you get rid of the 350 I would be cool to see a Mercedes om617 swap.

I’d really like to see you clean it up and make it more OEM+ “stock” with a v8. Manual R150/toy tcase, (ditch the th350!) working oem tachometer gauge set, clean up the body a bit, lower the body lift.
Raptor line the whole thing, build heavy duty front and rear bumpers, do a different grille, headlights, tail lights, different exhaust, different wheels

Sadly, carb's are out dated old school lol. Holley fuel injection setup. Would have been cool , and I am a Chevrolet fan, if it was a V8 Toyota and transmission/drive train (4.7). Might be a few around from a Sequoia or Tundra... ?... Agree on the body lift. Mild lift, to accommodate the tire size. A wrap might be less expensive than a paint job... or another raptor liner paint job. Get rid of the old school tach setup... nice clean dash cluster. Be curious to see the motor mounts and if they can be redone to improve the fit of the motor . Also curious to see the frame. If anything was done to accept the V8 ? .... UMMM 🤔 the list is growing... lol.. fun times.

Do it up proper! SM465, NP205, Dana 60, and GM 14 bolt please!!!!! Oh, and slap a supercharger on her for good measure 😀 I run a MSD Streetfire HEI 4 pin module, and a Pertronix FlameThrower 60104 - 0.45 ohm coil together on my 3f Land Cruiser, and installed the same setup on a 22R Hilux, both running Toyota distributors with original pickup / generator. The HEI module requires a coil with less than 0.50 ohms resistance for it's current limiting circuit to function properly, without which, it's output will be hugely handicapped. Point is, I see a canister coil, and I only know of one that has less than 0.50 ohms resistance - Pertronix 44011. I'd replace that coil with a epoxy filled unit that suits the HEI, and open up plug gaps to .050. 😁

If I was keeping a V8 in it I would ditch the 350 reseal and keep the th350 and drop in a 4.8/5.3. I know a lot of people think the LS engines are played out but as much as I like 1st gen Chevy engines they just don’t seem worth the trouble much anymore
How about you ditch that carb, throw a Holley Sniper EFI on it, and tuck in a nice little single turbo. should rip with 10psi and as long as the ring gaps are opened up it should take it like a champ. then slap a paintjob and bumpers on it and send it!

Rip out the drivetrain and sell it. I would put a Lexus 1uz V8 in it. Roof top tent.

There is some sort of special deal with mounting the lower intake manifold on those 350s. They car guys around me wouldn't share the secret.
