The only truly waterproof boots that don't fail on me are the "wellies" style rubber rain boots, sometimes they incorporate neoprene wetsuit material for flexibility. they're not super comfortable and have chunky toe boxes but they actually hold back water indefinitely. Every other boot that uses a goretex or ptf based waterproof liner eventually fails and sometimes in the most seemingly insignificant ways possible. All it takes is a bad thread hole, a tiny manufacturing defect, or a snag from the inside to tear through the thin liner and turn a 100% waterproof boot into a 0% waterproof boot. waterproof socks seem like an awesome way to inspect/replace your waterproof liner without losing a whole boot over it.
Thanks, I appreciate that. I think I going to go with a combination of WP boots and socks.
Well that is a lot of rain, Rich! I have never heard of waterproof socks.
Yeah it was a heavy rain storm, but short. Later in the day, it was sunny lol.
Yelp..... I love mine..... I have a pair in all 4 motorcycles..... lol that a great video and content..
10-4
Yeah, we got the idea from your gear list.
I'm 💯% shocked at this. I thought there ain't no way once you went out in that river. 😂 I think I may have to get a pair or two of these.
I too thought that so much water would penetrate the socks fast. It did look like a river lol.
✌️
Thanks Much appreciated.
Very cool socks. We need to use waterproof boots in my area, because the water is sold when it rains.
Thanks Viper6. (We need to use waterproof boots in my area, because the water is sold when it rains.) LOL
@@BootsandJeansRiders meant cold, not sold LOL
I think those would be great to throw in your saddlebag. That way if you end up with wet socks, you can switch them out and for sure have dry socks. Great review!
Yeah...I don't use my socks as much as I should. Time to get WP boots.
I agree with the boot covers, problem with waterproof boots is once the water gets in, it stays in so they're harder to dry. I'd rather have shoes and socks that breathe so the wind can handle them if needed
Yeah, Now I'm looking into breathable Gore-Tex boots.
I’m going to look into those socks 🧦 thanks
Yeah, KellyB, look into them. I like them, but I still need to get a good pair of WP boots.
A quality pair of waterproof boots. I bought Alpinestar Gore Tex boots 23 years ago and never got wet in them so far . Six hours in a torrential downpour across two states and arrived dry . Although the rest of my gear had to be waterproof also. If not then my boots become buckets for water to settle in ! Lol . Back in the day , $190 for the boots . Good luck and stay dry .
Thank you I appreciate that. 23 years is a long time, great gear for sure.
Thank you Sir! You always have good intel.
Thanks John, I appreciate that! Thanks for always supporting us.
I'm from over the pond and I use 'Sealskinz' brand knee high socks when it's raining...which is most of the time in England. UK. 🇬🇧👍
Thanks for chiming in I appreciate it
Using these with waterproof boots you would guarranty 100% dry even in an all day downpour ride, good info ..
For sure...I'm looking into getting WP boots soon. Kake is waaay ahead of me lol.
Neat. I prefer my waterproof boots though. When it comes to waterproof gear I’ve noticed it’s only waterproof for so long. I went through 3 pairs of “waterproof “ gloves in one day.
Yeah Pete I need to get some boots. 3 pair of waterproof gloves in one day...Ouch
Nothing like that New Orleans rainstorm! The drainage still sucks!
Yeah, I hope another major hurricane doesn't come again. Perhaps the pumps are working better.
I had not thought of waterproof socks. I wear Bates side-zip waterproof boots. However, they are only waterproof up to a certain height of the uppers. I have had water fill them. I find that removing the insoles and stuffing newspaper inside helps dry them out over night. (I grew up in Metairie, on David Drive. It's been a couple of years since I was there. Most recently, it was for Hurricane response.)
"I find that removing the insoles and stuffing newspaper inside helps dry them out over night." Excellent idea, thanks.
You’re the man! 😅
Thanks, Robert...
Those are pretty amazing. I wear waterproof boots from Indie Ridge or when we are not touring, I wear my cute, not waterproof, BILT boots. Yes, my feet get warm sometimes in the waterproof boots, but I only have room for the pair of boots I am wearing and my tennis shoes. I think I will stick with the boots... I have heated socks I took to Alaska, but never needed to use them. Thanks for the demo!
Hey Jody. I am looking at getting TCX GoreTex WP boots. I saw Living Off The Slabb comment. They are breathable. Love my heated socks but I too never use them either lol.
Looks like you were having a LOT of fun in the water... agree a Jet Ski would be perfect in those conditions. I only buy water proof boots and wear them all year round and neverr had an issue with my feet over heating. Take care and stay safe!
Hey Jose...What type of boots you are using?
@@BootsandJeansRiders HD boots 🤩
Damn you really out those socks through the paces!! Might have to look into them!!
Yeah GB check them out. I will definitely get WP boots, but the socks did a good job.
Gm I would prefer both great video or try to avoid the rain 🌧 all together but I'm going to get us a pair of socks I didn't know they waterproof socks
Good morning! Vernon. Yeah, I need to get WP boot too. We try not to ride in the rain but...
LOL, SCUBA gear LOL. I have WP Boots and it usually gets the jobs done. Man that's a serious rain storm.
HAHA we were divers...Yeah, it came done fast and furious.
I ride with waterproof hiking boots all the time. I put on boot covers when it’s raining. The boot covers also keep my feet warm in the cold.
We had boot covers, but have no idea where they are lol. need to invest in both WP boots and covers. thanks for watching and commenting.
I have several pair of these socks and while they have worked for short periods, 4 hours in the rain and they have soaked through. I also have so called waterproof boots from Forma and they also have their limits; water seems to come in through the seams. So far, my TCX GoreTex boots have not failed, planning on going back to those this year.
Yeah Craig I think a combination of both WP boots and socks would do the trick. I saw your video when you said you were going back to the TCX Gore-Tex boots. If you trust them, I think I will give them a try. Thanks.
My feet felt squishy watching you walk in the puddles lol
It wasn't that bad...The socks aren't warm so I though my feet would be sooked.
Wow. That is impressive!! Those socks did the job!! Question, you mentioned how waterproof boots might not breathe, but do the socks breathe??
They say they are breathable. I've worn them like regular socks and my feet weren't sweating, so I guess they are. I've never ridden with them in the heat so I'm can't be 100% sure.
First post!
LOL...Thanks
That doesn't look like Antioch!
Nope...The BIG EASY!
Wear them nothing , nature remains undefeated but I least I stand half a chance out in the elements
What was the outside temp, and did the socks (when wet) still provide any warmth? Thanks for sharing this example!
Hey Mark, The temp was about 75°. No warmth when wet. However, there are waterproof socks that do provide warmth as well. Of course, they cost more.
I think I’ll stick to waterproof boots, that way I’m not putting on cold, wet boots the next morning….
What boots do you have?
@@BootsandJeansRiders Tourmaster Trailblazers. I bought them for the VStrom, but they work on the Wing if need be, like when it’s raining!😂
Thanks Rich for the research! I wear boots with gore-Tex lining. I’ve on ridden in a short rain shower and stayed dry. Keep up the videos, I look forward to each episode
Your Welcome...I'm currently looking at the Gore-Tex boots. I was told they are very breathable and do a really great job in the rain. Thanks for commenting.
Just wondering what would be on hot feet? My feet sweat easy. Now at work we will wear muck boots works great but not sure how they would be touring
These socks are breathable...so they say lol. I'm currently looking at TCX Gore-Tex boots.
Socks? I've been using waterproof boots for years in water up over the laces and never needed waterproof socks.
YI need to invest in some boops. What brand are you using?
I wore Harley Davidson boots for years. Then I realized they were made by Wolverine and could save a lot by buying them without the Harley logo on them. I also have a pair of boots that aren’t really “motorcycle” boots but they work great. They are from Caterpillar (the equipment company). Insulated, waterproof, steel toe, padded ankles.
Thanks so much, I will look into the boots for sure.
