    Mom, we all have gross ironing board covers😉
    Tissue paper is like a mutt with a pedigree consisting of paper, cobweb, cellophane and Saran Wrap 🤣
    🙋🏼‍♀️I have a great tissue paper pattern tip that came about when I was desperately trying to extend the life of a pattern I needed to use about 100 times. I used a light iron-on interfacing on the back to repair tears and pinholes that were shredding out the edges fully expecting that my pattern would then be thicker an not fit back into the envelope … but magically it takes up LESS space. It’s magic I tell ya🤣
    So I ran to JoAnns with a 60% off coupon and bought a whole bolt and now I just immediately back any pattern that I plan to use multiple times. I also save every scrap in an old ice cream bucket and crazy quilt style iron those scraps to the backs of patterns.

      The interfacing makes it behave like a fabric instead of fragile paper. No damage from pins, folds up nicely, doesn’t slide around or bubble up on your fabric when laying out to cut. I’m not even kidding a little bit, it’s magical

    It’s a testament to your moms ironing skills that her ironing board has some wear and tear. I wish I could say I iron my clothes but I really don’t 😂. Also how annoying is it when you spend ages playing Tetris with pattern pieces and then it turns out too big and everything would have been easier if you knew you needed the smaller size. I usually have myself a tantrum, throw the project and pattern in the WIP box never to be seen again. So props for persevering. ❤

      😂 She'd say it was because it's really old, but I like your version better! And YES, OMG!! That's the worst. I did perservere for a time...but I have to be honest, just recently, I lost my temper with this pattern and just shoved the whole thing into a ziplock 🤐

    awesome as always. your cutting position really does not look comfortable🤣. my favourite pirate ish shirt from the directions and suggestions from Bernadette Banner. it's the only one I've made that's worked first time. before changing my ironing board cover 2 months ago, mine was worse. so mum, don't sweat it. as people who sew, we've all seen worse! I only know a couple of methods for male to female trouser conversion. one is the classic pince and pin, the other is to take the pattern for the male trousers and overlay female trousers on top to find the differences and then remove those. another option though for this particular style is to just buy a pattern for female fall front/ sailor trousers. there's a few patterns out there.

    • @FantasticalFolliesCostuming
      @FantasticalFolliesCostuming  Рік тому +2

      Yeah, it was awkward AF 😂 Thanks, I am really hoping she sees all these. Those are good tips. I particularly like the one using a female pattern and marking the differences. Might try that on my next go, because already have one handy!

    I generally only work with vintage patterns, so arguing with a tissue that's been folded up for longer than I've been alive hasn't really been a problem. Laying it out flat, however... After tracing it out onto dot & cross paper the patterns have already attempted to go back into the shape they originally came in. Even with that, they don't go back into the envelop as pretty as they came out. Le sigh.
    Your Mum's ironing board is FINE. Stains means it's being used. A virginal, off-white ironing board, like a virginal, unmarked worktable means that it's not being used. Work with your equipment and be damned how it looks afterwards...
    Pants are still a mystery to me. One I want to work on this year. Your breeches and shirt look great. Have fun with the pirate party.

      @@FantasticalFolliesCostuming I won a scholarship to FR. If I'm reading the room correctly - 2023 is going to be the year we all collectively get over ourselves and work on pants. Been seeing signs of it in other creators too. Fingers crossed. Because I'm going to need all the help I can get... those pattern pieces look So weird...

    From what I know of early to mid 18th c breeches, they are meant to be low waisted and baggy/awkward in the upper part. This is supposed to hidden by the wearer's waistcoat or jacket.
    The pool scene was fun to watch, even if it wasn't fun to film.

    Sorry Jax I don't have the pattern folding issues. I am anal about using the creases to fold a pattern back the way it was. If I can't I use my iron to yield it in submission. My issues are I can't get it back in the envelope. So put the envelope and pattern go in a gallon ziploc.
    Mama Jax we really don't care what the ironing board looks like. It just has to do the job.
