One of the greatest guitarist of all time. He was so full of enthusiasm and love for the instrument. He completely dedicated his life to his passion and shared it with his students and brought so much joy and learning through his wonderful books. Ted will live in the heart of guitarists all over the world for ever. God bless you Ted. You were awesome.
I can't imagine me being at a wedding with such beautiful music being made and chatting around like these people are doing. I would be sitting on the floor in front of him watching and listening. It takes a great musician to take the place of a band and play all night, alone, no cd back up just Ted and his guitar, amazing.
Hmm? Choosing a "best" is a tall order. There are so many different styles of solo jazz guitar. One thing is CERTAIN. Ted Greene was a master. His playing was inspirational, uplifting...many other adjectives come to mind. His playing has certainly "mentored" my own development as a player over the last 30 years. Just magical playing, here.
I love this... he comes from a deep place when he plays. And he has the amazing chord vocabulary to take it to a very high expression... The telecaster tone with his smooth execution is just awesome. An unsung hero of the guitar... Chord Chemistry......
This is one video on youtube where no one is complaining about the resolution, because we are so grateful for the audio, and to be able to see and understand his method of playing.
He was invivted to a wedding of one of his students, and he played at the opening of the ceremony, and the dinner hour. Although you hear the people chatting and drinking, it is after all a happy occasion and the people are respectful. I have the entire video but I believe the TedGreene.com web site sells it. A definte one for any serious guitar player to add to your collection....RC
@@RonaldCid Ted stands at the top of my list of favorite jazz guitarists, along with Emily Remler, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, Ed Bickert, Gabor Szabo. I also have a pdf copy of his Chord Chemistry that is a never-ending fountain of wisdom for us all. I wish he had recorded albums and done more real live performances, but his kind nature was surely one of the reasons he gave so much time to teaching. .
Super sensitive playing makes his music an absolute joy to listen to. It is his feeling & tone translating from his most inner being directly into his guitar. It is especially beautiful.
Ted could be playing an ironing board with strings and it would sound the same...it is never the guitar or instrument, it is the mind of the player, and Ted had all the goods when it comes to playing...
It surprises me to think that he was stressed out and practicing nonstop before playing this gig when he can so easily carry the tune while conversing, then seamlessly change between songs as if they were already written that way. Still wish I'd heard of him before 2005 and that I would have had the chance to learn from him.
I had Ted play at my wedding and man was it hard to concentrate on the occasion with such an amazing guitarist playing. I should post some video as well.
dang this is great able to post this, wow no one paying attentin to him, lol but now they probably all bragging about how he played at wedding, and im sure even a few who werent there prob saying they were
@RaistMagus Sounds to me like he goes through a simple compressor then into his amp with some tasteful level of reverb. That's how he gets that great sustain with no attack. He's really something, isn't he? I have to control myself to keep from crying; sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't!
Listen at 2:54; that chord falls on the word "smile," and it's just other-worldly. I never heard anything like it. Boy jdean are you right about that light on the inside.
@XLuckieX Thanks. You could be pulling my leg and I wouldn't know. Note that musicajaja tells me it's a "13 9 b with the fifthof 5 b played after." Fine by me! A killer chord by any name, right?
Genius..How much does the people in the background care, and understand?! Not much I guess. Ted was to good and deep to become a big star. But for us,the mucisians, he is a star.
ted greene is unbelievable... i always feel like being filled with light from the inside when i listen to him
Ted Greene is quite possibly one of the best solo jazz guitarists to have been around.
I wonder how many folks attending walked right past this and didn't think twice. It's alright.

Ted is amazing on these two Jobim tunes! Who says you have to have a $10,000 hand made hollow body archtop guitar to get a perfect Jazz tone???
Ted could be playing an ironing board with strings and it would sound the same...it is never the guitar or instrument, it is the mind of the player, and Ted had all the goods when it comes to playing...
@@RonaldCid - You are exactly right.
To be fair, this isn't exactly the kind of tone you hear from jazz players.
@@srj34 - So, to be fair... Ted isn't a Jazz player pray tell?
@@stringbender57 Oh, no, not what I meant at all. I'm just talking about his tone. Most jazz players don't sound like that
Oh - so those are the chords. The key change(s) in Ipanema - lovely. My dinner would have gotten cold.
Absolutely beautiful. The man is a genius. I'm blown away.
A complete pleasure to watch. Truly great guitarist.

Hello Mark, I just saw this comment. Did you ever post some footage of Ted playing at your wedding somewhere?
I like how he imperceptibly switches between the two tunes...
Great video!
wow just incredible
and how he can just chat as he plays all that!
incredible
Amazing, thanks for posting, A very special person
Dave -Calgary

That would great if you could.
So hard to find any original footage of Ted playing anymore.
Here's hoping !
Ted playing background music at a wedding? Its like Segovia playing at a farmers market.
Yes, you should!
The Master!!!
deep voicing ...nice
preferiti!!!!!!!
Makes it look so easy.. as he's having a conversation.. Ridiculous!
Playing to God
for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Ted is about to play let the world be silent.

Rob Herrington I have exactly the same reaction whenever I hear/watch Ted play. For me........the best that ever picked up a guitar.
Keep practicing, kids!

@robjh22 It's a Bb6#11
He learned a lot from Lenny Breau. Lenny was THE MAN.
@robjh22 yap :)
My god....who is this man????? He is not from this earth....and on a Telecaster no less....Leo Fender must be freegin shock....
