In this full-length documentary I'm sharing my platform with an incredible family who left their corporate jobs to be promoting ITAL living in the center of Kingston. That's right, not in the mountains, but in the middle of a busy city. We're going to their little oasis - Veggie Meals on Wheels to learn about ITAL FOOD AND LIFESTYLE in Jamaica.
ITAL cooking is a way of preparing food that is consistent with Rastafarian life style and beliefs. Ital food is essential for Rastafari because of one of the core spiritual concepts, known as Livity.
Please note, there is no such concept as Rastafarianism, because Rastafari don't use isms, so it's Rastafari, not "Rastafarianism". This documentary is about ITAL food, so we are not going into the depth of spiritual part of this topic, yet we still need to acknowledge that up to this day most people barely know anything about Rastafari, so we will mention the link between Jamaica and Ethiopia and see if there is a difference between Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and Rastafari.

I stumbled across your video on my tv. And was amazed, you guys are just a classical example of how humans should really live.I can feel the genuine vibe in your vocals. makes me feel like I want to be around you guys! Keep up the good work even the colors are uplifting to my spirit .may you live long.
Everything she said about Rasta's educating the world on health or the world on black pride, example, embracing your natural hair and your blackness, I been saying to my students. I grew up in Guyana amongst the Rastafarian community, hands down they're one of the brightest, cleanest and progressive communities in many island nations. They were preaching Italism before America and the world started talking veganism, lifestyles. Love this documentary. She allowed them to speak to their Rastafarian culture and all of what they celebrate all around the topic of food. Make me want to put on some Burning Spear! Smiles
I naturally have a deep respect and appreciation for Rastafarian culture.
If more these young people adopt Rastafarian lifestyle or at least the livity the world be a better place but majority of the world is run on Babylon materialism
But your the same person who in another string of comments said that Jamaicans take credit for everything or “over reach” among other statements. Fun fact, Rastafari was started in Jamaica but Guyana, other islands and other people across the world have adapted it. (And that’s awesome, that’s the ultimate goal of Rasta ) But you can’t be an advocate for Rastas and preach hate sis 🤷🏾♀️. Let’s all educate one another on REAL facts and not promote or be apart of hate and problems.
@@brittneyg6656 sure did say, what I said, not taking it back. But, I am not from Jamaica as you know by now, and I know all about Rasta culture so when I talk about Rastafarian culture I am referring to my own experience, and that lends itself to all Rastafarians world wide and indeed Jamaica. Btw some would argue that Rastafarianism was not started in Jamaica, and was actually practiced in midieval times as well. Not sure how true it is but I've seen arguments around it, and they substantiated it with research. Again, not arguing either way, I am not certain. But, the debate is out there.

This is, hands down, one of the best documentaries I have ever watched.
*Jamaican* culture are trendsetters for the entire world 🌎.
*Jamaicans* are the first to open *Juice Bars* and now they're everywhere.
*Jamaica* gave the world *Hip Hop* and many other genres and not getting the rightful credit they deserves.
*Rastafari* is our future....🤔
Real talk 👍 Heavy-D said that in the 80's I think mtv did Documentary where he said a Jamaican named U-Roy spoke over Song. That was a few years before Hip hop.
@@drewski1441 No it wasn't a few years before *Hip Hop, it was much longer.
The first rapper was *Count Machuki* He originated a deejay style in 1954, that was later developed by artists such as U-Roy, and which eventually led to rap.
Throughout the 1960's *Count Machuki* and *King Stitt* would dominate *Dancehall* with their rhyming, until *U-Roy* took it to another level from the mid 60's onward. His masterpiece *Wake The Town and tell the people* became the benchmark for what would become *Hip Hop* which was created by *Jamaican-born Clive Kool Herc Campbell* who had migrated to the bronx with his parents. *Kool Herc* father was a sound system operator prior to migrating and from this *Hip Hop* was born. The entire culture of *Hip Hop* came from the *Jamaican Sound System Cultures* which started with *Charlie Wong* sound called *Sébastien* in the mid 1940's.
Most of earlier rappers of *Hip Hop* were either *JAMAICAN-BORN* or of *Jamaican parentage* hence the similarities of the genres.....🤔
@@kingnaldo4058 okay my historian. I hope a you tube vloger inview you. It's important to have this in record.
Nah that's bullshit. Black Americans are the trend setters of the world the most Imitated man also and you can deny it all you want. Just travel the world 🌎 everywhere the youth listen hip hop. dress talk like American black they put a big staple in this world. I never see American black try to imitate Jamaicans they don't even listen to there music. And I'm not black American just incase your wondering
@Dick Woodism I know my self very well sir. I'm not an educated man but I am a wise man. There is a lot of carrbbean influence in the hip hop culture. This is a fact what I'm saying to you is. American blacks are the real originators Hip hip. motown. Soul R&B there culture is very influence through out the world. I'm not ignorant. How I'm I ignorant you said Jamaicans are trend setters of the world. I don't see anyone copying Jamaicans. Only people from other Carribbean countries yes. BA They have there own culture they don't to follow anyone everyone wants to talk walk dress like them period.

I'm speechless. I don't even know what to say! Irina, this has got to be your BEST video to date! You have taught us and shown us things about Jamaica that we've never heard before, never even knew existed!
I've known about Rastas, seen them here and there, but never met or knew one before. So my knowledge of all things Rastafarian is admittedly based on the prejudice passed down in my family. Thank you for this very important lesson!!
I wonder if the Jamaica Tourist Board's aware of this channel? They need to make you a Tourist Ambassador for Jamaica, because you've educated Jamaicans as well as the world about Jamaica, more than the JTB has ever done over their lifespan. This is serious, I think we really need to make the relevant ministry aware of all the work you do on behalf of Jamaica. This is better than advertising - it's EDUCATION!
Yes and they need to recognize that rastafarians don't commit crimes. Nobody every talked about that but as a child I was taught to be afraid of them but I knew better I observed people and realised it was a lie and I should be afraid of the people who were spreading lies on rastafarians.
@@eileenwatt8283 Rastafari...tru tru... it is a shame our people never see the truth...
@@eileenwatt8283 You need to stop it. Everybody commits crime. And many people who commit crime in Jamaica call themselves Rastas. I know you would say those are not Rastas, but who are you to say they are not Rastas? Blessings, though
@@decijohn6855 Define rastafarian as you know them. I bet we have 2 different definition. There are people who claim to be rastafarians because they have dread locks and smoke weed and walk around saying "jah rastafari" yet they eat meat that's a fashionable rasta. I'm talking spiritual rastafarians who mind their own business and not committing crime. They are in the mountains chilling off their land, planting their crops , being self sufficient, not chasing material wealth and respecting woman. They may have couple but they not mistreating them or killing people. They are rational thinkers not hot headed like the criminals who can't resolve conflicts except with weapons.
@@eileenwatt8283 So define Christianity, or any other religions. In every religion, or organizations you will find people in that religion or organization who are deviants, but they are still rastas. And it is no different in Rastafariandom. You are probably a young person, but believe me, your attempt to define Rastafarianisim is no different from those who were around in the sixties and seventies. The truth is that no one knows what is Rastafarianism. Where is the Rasta text? The people who conjured up the idea of rastaism didn't write down anything as to what rasta is. Some even say Haile Selassie of Ethiopia is God. Haile Selassie told rastas that he is not God, he even said that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is his God. So don't bother to talk about definition, because nobody knows what is Rastafarianism. Blessings anyway
You are a Queen my sister. Truer words have not been spoken. Charisma and intelligence.
Love it , love it, Love it. What a irie husband and wife. They are so intelligent and knowledgeable. I can just imagine how good the food must taste. I hope this video will inspire millions of people to change their eating habits. Natural food is the way. Thank you iris 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍

@Kene Smith. I totally agree!!! SERIOUSLY lovely Ital Queen is Keteis Oyonde with her Kingman Ibbi Lion and family are doing an EXCELLENT HUMBLE presentation: We neeeed to loooove ourselves moooore and STRENGTHEN the BLACK FAMILY by BIGGING-UP OUR ORIGINAL TRUE BLACK ISRAELITE ITAL couples. Those that are FULLY CONSCIOUS enough to KNOW NOT to commit GENOCIDE in our nation! These are the couples to be PROMOTED for the YOUNGSTERS to see. Couples like Queen Keteis and Kingman Oyonde are the STRONG COUPLES setting the RIGHT EXAMPLE for US to follow! They demonstrate we do NOT have to HATE ourselves by INTERMARRYING OUTSIDE of our nation! Persons want to act like it's ok in the sight of the MOST HIGH when it is NOT!!! Persons like "Nature Jamaica Kitchen." See Deut 7v3; Joshua 23v12; Ezra 9v12; Nehemiah 13 vss 24-27.
What a VEGAN RASTA eats in a day! 🥒🍒🥝

What an AMAZING Closing by these two AWESOME People. Excellent Documentary
Real levity and empowerment
Just before I left Jamaica I used to have my lunch at this place daily. When l told him I was migrating ( with a heavy heart) he gave me a calabash and told me to travel with it for remembrance . I spend about 2 months in Manchester before l left and forgot to take my calabash 😔.
I look forward to returning to jamaica soon and this place is going be one of my first places to eat. Glad they are still around....good food
best documentary i've seen in a while, whole heap a conciousness in a nutsell focused on the right subjects
Man Irina, it does not matter what subject matter you cover, always so very interesting and educational...and of course, very enjoyable to watch. I love how you let the people with the knowledge do the talking.
Yes, thats so treu. I love her video's.
I love how they explained how they work so well together as a couple and business partners they basically described the harmony and balance of their own inner harmony of feminine and masculine energies they exude individually and between them such a perfect example of what a divine ordained relationship looks like so inspiring. I appreciated this presentation from beginning to end. 🙏🏾❤️

😁😁😁😁🇯🇲 we are full of humor. We make up our own names. We have nicknames for our children too. Jamaican government needs to implement the rastafarian model in government. Rastafarians don't commit crimes either. The most peaceful people in Jamaica along with maroons.
The fruit is sometimes called an avocado pear or alligator pear (due to its shape and the rough green skin of some cultivars).
The Aztecs called it the fertility fruit. Legend has it that an early English description of “avocado” called it the “avogado pear,” leading to the misunderstanding of “alligator pear.” The fact that the shell of the fruit looks vaguely crocodilian doesn't hurt.
Jamaicans cut in short and say pear.

Hi Irina, Wow this documentary was very inspirational and educational, Bless!
Rasta culture was the best thing this country needed. Instead, we have incorporated western values and Christianity. Today we are like another corrupt, lost and confused country. Respect.
Wowwww they compliment each other.
Thank you for this beautiful documentary. It is really heartwarming to see the positive side of Jamaican culture. Respect to you and family. ❤
You did it again! Astounding!!!!!!
Thank you Irina for showing us the many facets of Jamaica.... for taking us on us on your journey as you 3xplore and learn more about this beloved island a few lucky ones can call home.
This was a great video! My wife and I have been watching your videos for months now. Every time we get to watch one we say to each other “ wow that was really good”. One Love! Excellent master class Irina!
Love the song played half way through the documentary.
Their message of self-sufficiency and peace and entrepreneurship is so lacking in the USA right now. I wish more young people could hear this message and be inspired by beautiful, kind people like this couple. This was wonderful-thank you! I want to meet them and eat the food, it looks amazing and I’m not vegan in any way.

🇯🇲 Another one of your very diverse & revealing sub-culture videos.
As a Jamaican, was very proud of how the brethren & sistren artfully & intellectually explained their concepts......were not bugged down in Rasta & colloquial circular reasonings; leaving more questions than answers and head-scratchings.
Noticed how the sistren explained the class differences as a " mind ting." It's not by chance they're self-employed.
Good job again Irene!!
