Rastafari Indigenous Village - Montego Bay, Jamaica - Today we met up with I-Win at the Rastafari Indigenous Village near Montego Bay, Jamaica. I-Win took us on a tour of the village, where we toured the Jamaican herb garden, and he eventually made some amazing Ital vegan Jamaican food. #Ital #Jamaica #JamaicanFood
What is Ital Food:
Ital (comes from the word Vital) - Rastafari food, usually plant based, low salt, emphasis and natural.
The Rastafari Indigenous Village is set up for tours - but I think what made it really worthwhile for me, was I-Win himself - who is one of the chillies, nicest, and most relaxed Chefs out there. When we arrived, we had a nice tour of the gardens and fruit trees, and the Rastafari natural approach to food and medicine.
We then took a tour through the herb farm where they were growing everything needed to make Jamaican Ital vegan food. Loved the garden. And we also picked ackee fruit - one of the national foods of Jamaica, but poison if it doesn't crack open on its own.
I-Wil cooked ackee stew with vegetables and coconut milk, pigeon peas stew, and fried breadfruit and bammy. Lunch was delicious, refreshing, healthy, and pure Ital vegan.
We also had a few favorite Rasta drinks - like chocolate tea - a combination of freshly ground chocolate and coconut milk, and fresh sugar cane juice with ginger.
I had a fun time, and really enjoyed the food!

Dude this comment is spot on, I lived in Poland for 3 years and lost over 80 lbs. They have an active lifestyle and eat from farm to table, no processed crap... then I came back to the US and gained a majority of it back 😂 mostly my fault but it just shows what additives and preservatives can do to you. In America the only safe way is to go organic - there so much gmo nonsense over there
@@aloosh7277 facts
@@annother3350 but even then, you have to be careful. we shouldn't automatically assume that just because a product is organic means it's healthy. whole foods and trader joes have had numerous recalls on their organic produce and items because of this very reason. it's sad
King Kush the problem is that we are to many, to selfish, to iresponsabile, so the food like this cannot be produced in mass quantities to feed all. On the other side green land disappears, concrete buildings pops up and..... So let's not be hypocrite. We deserve what we eat.

That's the natural Chocolate beans taken from the pods - roasted - 'mortored' into a paste - allowed to 'set' (dry-hard) - you then grate that into you teacup ads you milk -sugar (or none) and sip-away! Be careful though - there is the natural oil on top that keeps the heat locked in - when it burns - it burns!

Once again Mark has done it! Thank you, I just learnt something about my own country, the origin of the name Annotto Bay! Rastafarians were the original vegans, they have followed this way of life for decades and not treated it as a fad or trend, its a way of life for them. Mark you have brought out our culture or different aspects of our culture to the world. People usually know about Bob Marley but not what's behind Rastafarian culture. Most think its the dread locks and not a complete change of lifestyle and way of thinking. Keep up the work and enjoying the world!

We call it Cacao tea in my homeland ... it goes well in the morning with bread fruit and saltfish or breadfruit with smokeherring and cucumber. You can drink the cocoa tea also with some cassava bread. My family makes their own. I’m missing home just watching this.
Went to a rum shack in Jamaica with some people I met at a resort, a rasta was there just hanging out and we got into conversation with him. When he took off, I gave off my salutations, and said "yea take it easy man". The whole place looked at me like I had three heads. He just smiled at me and walked off. I'll never forget the time I told a rasta man to take it easy.
