Instant Pot Ground Beef & Cheesy Potatoes Recipe - Easy Instructions

- Today's recipe is a delicious one that has resided on my website for a long time. However, until I tested it many times, many of the people who had previously tried it, got mixed results.
When we first started making it, we didn't put it on a trivet, but put it straight in the bottom of the Instant Pot. Then, when the newer Instant Pots came out, we got the burn notice. Now we put it on a trivet.
We also used to use foil in the bottom, on top of the trivet, so that we didn't mix any of it with the water in the bottom. We had mixed results with that, because the steam couldn't reach all of the potatoes to cook them.
Next, we tried 2 spring form pans stacked one on top of the other. Same problem. The steam wasn't reaching the potatoes and they weren't getting done enough.
Finally, we figured out that we had to just stack it all directly onto the trivet and it's totally OK if some pieces fall to the bottom. There's not much waste, and honestly it's a bit like beef stew on the bottom if there's still any water left (a lot of the water in the bottom goes away because it is now infused into those sliced potatoes)!
All that to say.... Here's the recipe. It's a family hit, because who doesn't like potatoes and cheese? Throw in some ground beef and you've got a complete meal. Almost anyway. :)

I used cheese cloth over my trivet and it worked amazingly. Didn't loose any solids.

I made this exactly the way you put it out there & let me telll u the concept was awesome the potatoes cooked perfectly but I can’t say I’d ever use Italian seasoning again smh I just didn’t like the flavor but I loved the recipe & the easiness of it. Thank you

Could you use a steamer basket for this recipe
Yes I’m sure that would work great.
I use a cheap toothbrush for a lot of things in the kitchen when cleaning an old one works too.
I don’t like recipes where I have to also use my stove, I cook sauté my beef in instapot. I don’t need extra pans to wash.

Ingredients
1.5 lbs ground beef
6 large uncooked potatoes
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 C. water
1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
Cooking Spray
Instructions
Brown ground beef in Instant Pot on the Saute function or in a skillet on the stove. If using the Instant Pot, remove meat and drain any grease out. Do a quick rinse of the inner pot before continuing.
Combine all spices together in a small bowl. Mix well.
Slice potatoes into 1/8 to 1/4” thick slices.
Place trivet in bottom of Instant Pot and 2 cups of water.
On top of trivet, layer 1/4 sliced potatoes and ground beef, then top with 1/4 of the shredded cheese. Sprinkle 1/4 of the seasoning over the top of that.
Repeat 2-3 more times. I usually save my last layer of cheese for after it's done cooking. It melts nicely right over the top.
Place the lid on the Instant Pot, set the valve to closed and set the Instant pot for 20 minutes on high pressure.
Once the timer has gone off, release the pressure and serve.
