When I married, I could not cook. My husband wanted gravy and biscuits for breakfast. I tried. We could not get the gravy out of the skillet. My mother-in-law was a wonderful German cook. I was so ashamed. She taught me so much. I started looking at recipes everywhere. My hobby, if I ever had one, was researching good recipes. Now when I hear you reference your recipes, and her you say, "Oh, I have had that recipe 35 years." My heart jumps with joy. I have had to move several times in the past few years, and realize somethings means nothing to no body but me, my one treasure is my recipe collection. It means so much to sit and read them. I still look for good recipes. One day I will have to give these tresures up. They have notes written by them. I became the best pound cake baker in North West Alabama. Beautiful cakes that turned out perfect every time. Thanks Milissa for adding the recipes on the same page. Thanks for the effort you put into your show. You will get one of my Sunday recipes one day.
My husband loves grapes so I am definitely going to make this. I laugh when you bang the spoon on the side of the bowl. If my husband is nearby and hears me banging, he bangs exactly what I banged on something else! It’s become a thing!!😂 Love your videos and appreciated your post today honoring our fallen heroes. My dad was a WW II Army vet, my husband was a Navy pilot in Vietnam and my son an army vet in Afghanistan. All made it home but they have never forgotten those who didn’t. ❤
I've been making this salad for years. My kids called it, "Grape Goo". At church they never knew if they should put it with the salads or the desserts. Now, I was taught to mix the brown sugar in with the cream cheese mixture and also to stir the nuts into the salad. There was no "crust". Thanks for your time once again.
I will share my minor variation on your grape salad. All the same ingredients but my method uses 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar combined. Continue with your instruction. When getting to the topping, only top with chopped nuts. Keeping them on top helps to keep them from getting soggy. My recipe calls for light brown sugar but I use dark. I also turn into a 9 x 13 dish. I love your channel and your recipes. I watch frequently.
Hi I'm Margie from Texas, I just recently started watching y'all and I have loved every minute. I like the way you break down recipes and show exactly what your doing. I love the camera angles, so good job on that, but I especially love the fact that y'all are religious as well. I wished I would of had y'all when I was in school. 😊 I just want to thank you for sharing with the world. God bless and maybe one day, I just might send in a recipe myself. 😊
I just watched an episode of pies and he asked my favorite pie, my most favorite is my grannies coconut pie but one I or my grannies has made would have to be lemon pies. I love a really good lemon pie or hand pies. Thank you.
My favorite comment I’ve seen and my exact thoughts as well. They’re just wonderful. So relaxing to watch as well. Way better than any cooking show on tv, or anywhere else in my opinion. ❤️🙏🏻
Seems like a perfect dessert/salad for these miserably hot days that we are already experiencing in Central Texas. Thank you for doing the series, and thank you for the video.
I would leave the brown sugar out, too much sugar for my liking in this dish but I would use the nuts, toasting them first and mixing them into the salad.
I absolutely love this salad. My aunt served it about 20 years ago, and I was blown away by how simple it is to make. Tom, I am the same. I am going to scrape everything out that I can possibly get out. This day and time, I really can't afford to waste anything. I live alone and all my meals, of course, are alone with the exception of my best friend eating with me one night over the weekends. My grocery bill is up to and many months exceeds 320.00. All my household products are purchased at the Dollar General or Walmart to try and save a few pennies. My husband passed away 4 years ago, and I was spending between 150.00 and 200.00, never over that, and most of time the lesser amount, that said, I do cook all my meals and rarely eat out. I don't know how people with large families do it.
We love this salad, and we have been making it for years. Sometimes, we top it with grape-nuts cereal, and it is delicious and crunchy. We look forward to your videos every week. Thank you both.
This is served at Oak Forest Retreat Center, in Fredrick, WI. It is one of our favorites when we, Lakeshore Quilt Guild, Shoreview, MN, attend a retreat there every spring and fall. They use crushed pretzels instead of Pecans. I enjoy your videos and watch them all. Melissa does a great job keeping you in line and very good camera work.
Looks so yummy ! I wish I could sit at your table ! My Grand mother was a wonderful cook as was my Mom ! We would have big Sunday meals!! I miss them both. !
Someday, I will give this a whirl ❤ I agree about black grapes being the best. They always are sweet and never bitter. I like to toss wet grapes in dry jello powder, then arrange a single layer on a plate in the fridge with a couple toothpicks stuck in for easy access when opening the fridge for other things. ❤
This is a favorite around here. I’ve made this for family gatherings, church dinners but it is always a must for showers and I’ve made it in a punch bowl for a wedding.
❤❤❤❤❤ So happy to see you and be able to hear Melissa. Regarding grapes, you said you washed them twice, well take a look of how I take care of my grapes, it takes time but is worth it. 1. With small scissors I cut the stem attached to the grape (almost closer to the grape) YOU DON'T pull the grapes from the stem BECAUSE there's still spider eggs or bacteria in the grape. If you PULL the grape from the stem the bacteria goes inside the grape. That is the reason you take small SHAP scissors to cut the stem with grape attached closer to the end of the stem were the grape is connected to. 2. After you have all your grapes ready do the following. You have 2 glass bowls One glass bowl has water and baking soda added to water. Add your grapes make sure they are not too tight in the bowl. Move them around. Wait 10 minutes and with your hands massage them gently, you are taking the bad part of the grape. RINSE them well with clear water 2 times keep of massaging gently. NOW put the grapes on second bowl of water plus a tablespoon of vinegar let the grapes sit for 5 minutes. DURING those 5 minutes take your second batch of grapes and add them to the water and baking soda. OK, It has been over 5 minutes since grapes were in part vinegar and water NOW add your grapes on CLEAN WAYER only, rinse and massage gently, do it again. Have a clean kitchen towel (Don't use paper towels) and put your clean grapes on your towel and dry them. WOW, LOOK HOW SHINY THEY ARE. NOW they are safe to eat just take away the tiny stem and enjoy your clean grapes. Go ahead add them to your salad THEY are safe to use. Just remember to dry them before they go in your salad. Don't forget the other batch of grapes that you put in water and baking soda😂 I told you, my process of cleaning grapes take a little extra time. I learned this from a Chinese cook and he even showed me the bacteria that was in the grapes even if you rinsed them twice. I do the cleaning of strawberry the same only vinegar and water. Massage gently, rinse them 2 times, put on kitchen towel, (DON'T USE PAPER TOWELS) dry them and freeze them for protein shake OR eat them they are OK to eat now. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ NOW I CAN MAKE YOUR RECIPE, MY GRAPES ARE NICE, CLEAN AND SHINY ❤❤❤❤
Grapes do have a "film" on them. It's called the bloom, and it's the fruit's natural wild yeast coating. Some sourdough bakers use grapes to start their sourdough mother. Plums, figs, blueberries, and other fruits have bloom as well.
this was what my dad always made for every holiday.. he always used every color of grape.. green, red and black grapes.. we haven't had grape salad since dad passed away.. I think this holiday season we will have it again. Thank you for reminding me ..and for scraping that bowl..
My Grandma made this wonderful salad to take to church Pot Luck! Haven’t had it in 50 years. Thank you for bringing back a lovely memory of my beloved grandma Billy.. (why I called her that at as toddler, we ‘ll never know, but it suck) 😅😅😅
That is my go-to salad (desert) that I get repeated requests for. So easy and it’s delicious! One difference… I cover and refrigerate overnight. Before serving stir well, transfer to your serving bowl and then put on the topping. I usually put it back in the fridge until time to serve. It’s a favorite.
A restaurant, Chicken Salad Chick, in GA has this on the menu. I'd never heard of it before, but its delicious! Thanks for sharing as it costs around $3 for about a 1/2 cup portion.
That looks very good. My complaint about this way of serving such a salad with a topping like this one has is that by the time my little ol’ hobbled self gets to the serving table in the buffet line, the topping went to the lickety-quicks who got there first. I’ll make this salad but I’ll serve it in a shallow baking dish. Those, like me, at the end of the line will have a chance of tasting the sweet and nutty “special” treat that actually makes the dish. I enjoy your channel very much and, since no one can prove otherwise, I tell people who like the dish that I got the recipe from a dear fiend. Shhh. If everyone knew your recipes I wouldn’t be the good cook people think I am. (!)
Melissa is right about layering it. We layered it when I worked at Vanderbilt. I would take it to the other nurses and doctors when we would have a luncheon and I always put a layer of the grapes a layer of the topping another layer of grapes and then another layer of topping and that middle layer literally is absolutely delicious after it sits overnight in the refrigerator it’s unbelievably good. The middle becomes the syrup. If you talk all of it with a thin layer of the great mixture you will have nothing but syrup in the other two layers and it’s really good like that unbelievably good!
That's great to know you've actually tried out my suggestion. It was absolutely delicious just like it was prepared and we loved every single bite. But layering it might make it even better! Thank you so much for watching our channel.
Thanks for sharing with us Tom and Melissa and thanks to Shirley also for sharing the recipe with all of us too. That looks delicious and would be a big hit at get togethers also. Stay safe and keep up the great videos, stay safe. Fred.
Thank you so much, Fred. We really loved this salad, and we were very tickled when we opened up this recipe. Hope you are having a great day. We are staying in this afternoon. It's a rainy, stormy afternoon here.
I love watching you. You explain things just like the teacher u r. You Have A really down home attitude that I really like too. I hope u continue these videos. I from a little town called Plantersville Texas. I have always loved feeding people good food.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate your kind words. There is something so nice about sharing food with people we care about. We appreciate that you are at the table with us.
I made this a couple of days after I saw this. There is no way to describe how delicious this is!!! I told my family this is going to be a holiday dessert. But, then the next day I said, and I decide when the holidays are! Lol! It's so good I want it every day!
A co-worker of mine used to bring that to work when we had pot luck.....thanks for reminding me of it....such a good salad! She would use sliced or slivered almonds in place of the pecans....Thank you for scraping the bowls when you cook!!
My GM used to make this for us! Growing in rural SC we had this at a lot of church socials and Sunday lunches at GMs house. I will have to try our version on my channel too! Thanks for sharing!
I am loving all of these recipes. I keep thinking about my Moms Red Flannel Beans recipe. It isn’t red beans it is pinto beans. I need to mail that recipe to you. Our family would always just stuff themselves on these beans. I do make them and so does my daughter now. I will try to remember to get this to you. ❤
This looks absolutely delicious like you my favorite fruits are grapes and bananas so now I will be searching for your banana salad recipe as always thank you for sharing your recipes!❤️
Thankyou for showing that you scrape the bowl, I was shouted down on another site for asking why they never scrape the ingredients into the mix as it must throw the recipe off ? I only asked as they said it was a tutorial site 😮😢😊 xx
Love the simplicity of the recipes you choose to make. It helps that you show the exact ingredients you use to make each recipe and then demonstrate how you put it all together. Thanks for sharing.
I remember my foods and nutrition teacher, back in high school, telling me ‘ the sign of a good cook is someone who will scrape the mixing bowl clean while making a recipe.’ I loved that teacher. You would certainly meet her approval. So many awesome looking recipes try from you two I can’t keep up! 😃
It's crazy you mentioned Greenbriar, Arkansas because we just had breakfast there at the Huddle House last Sunday morning on our way home from Branson, Missouri to Texas. Nice folks but they don't favor folks who can't eat much and leave half their breakfast. Lol! They don't have small portions either. Thanks for the recipe. I can't wait to make this as summer is quickly approaching.
I love this Grape Salad! I always make fruit salads for holiday meals. With all the carbs that come along with holiday meals, our bodies crave something clean! Wow! This juicy grape, nutty, and creamy mixture is a hit with my family. We're having it today for Memorial Day! Hats off to the creator!!! Thank you so much for sharing this!❤
My late Mom used to make something like this. I believe I have had this salad at least 50 times in my life. Is usually on any Lartz Family Reunion food table.
I hope you and Melissa weren’t in the path of them storms. It got pretty windy here in Nicholasville and then Harrodsburg got hit hard. I hope the good Lord kept you safe. God bless you both. Have a wonderful week. ❤
I make this salad often usually at the request of a family member. I refrigerate the grape mixture while I melt a stick of butter, dissolve the brown sugar and cook to soft ball stage. Beat it then add chopped walnuts. Then, spread it over the cold grape mixture.
I love that you folks use others recipes on Sundays. That's fun. I think I would try a small bowl on the side with celery added to see if that would make an interesting crunch to the grapes. If it doesn't work than no harm.
I haven't had this since Momma went with the Lord . This October will be four years. Thank you more than you can imagine. ❤ 😅 for a millisecond, I thought you weren't going to scrape the bowl. ❤
They have this at Chicken Salad Chick, a restaurant that has Chicken Salad sandwiches , soups and it's all so good 😋. I love it and the topping is so delicious 😋
Tom and Melissa I simply love your recipes, they are always simple, budget friendly and delicious. I have made so many. Any plans for a cookbook? I would purchase one for sure.
This is the same grape salad that I am expected to take to EVERY covered dish meal at my church. It is wonderful and my family loves it, as well. I use green, red & black grapes because they are pretty and because this is a pecan county, I add chopped pecans to the grapes as well as the topping.
This is a great salad! I omit the brown sugar and mix the pecans in with the cream cheese mixture. Thank you Melissa & Tom! Also I hope you and your Family are safe from the tornado that went through. ❤
Hello , I love this salad for Family get togethers. However we make it with Butterfingers crushed and we do not let it set over night as the Butterfingers get soggy. Our Great nephew's wife shared this recipe with us. Addie! We live in Avon Indiana. Enjoy your channel. One more thing I made those fluffy pancakes today. They are Delicious!
Thank you so much for the nice comment. We like your idea with the Butterfingers! That sounds quite tasty. And those pancakes . . . YUMMY! We love that you are joining us at the table.
I forgot about this recipe..thanku for bringing this up again ..this is the most delicious salad of all time ..never tried it with the brown sugar on top but I'm going to now lol..have a wonderful day and enjoy ir salad ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this 😊👍 I respect you both 😊👍 a lot and love you and your channel 😊❤️🥰 and God bless you and happy memorial Day to you and your family and your UA-cam family 💗🙏 Happy memorial Day everyone and God bless you all 💕👍🙏❤️
We made this grape salad yesterday and it is absolutely delicious! We did have some right after making it, but found out it is best left in fridge overnight ❤️
I think it's one of my favorite subscriber recipes. It's good when you first make it, but I do agree that it's even better after its had a while to sit.
I've only eaten at a Chicken Salad Chick one time, and I missed that they had the grape salad. That's good to know. We don't have one of their restaurants in our hometown so it's a vacation stop for us sometimes. I'm glad to know they have this salad.
Looks yummy. I agree with Melissa that maybe put half ogf grapes in bowl then add half of the brown sugar & pecans . That add the rest of grapes and the other half of toppings 🎉. Going to make it this summer, for sure 😊
I love the fact that you are not wasteful and always scrap the bowls with a spatula.
You will get one of my Sunday recipes one day.
Awh shucks. You you make me feel good.
How about a pound cake recipe?
Love when he scrapes the bowl! Lol
Grape salad is always a hit whenever I take it to a potluck meal. I've also made it using vanilla yogurt in place of sour cream, and less sugar.
In place of sour cream and the cream cheese?! OOOOHHHHHH, I can get behind that! I’ll keep that in mind! Thank you!
Make that Greek yogurt!
So glad you scrape the bowls, it really bothers me when I see others that don’t, I was brought up to not waste!
Please let them know, we are thankful for their service. 🤠❤
Congratulations 🍾🎉🎊🎈 over 5 .K followers and subscribers….🥰😘💞💞
I just watched an episode of pies and he asked my favorite pie, my most favorite is my grannies coconut pie but one I or my grannies has made would have to be lemon pies. I love a really good lemon pie or hand pies. Thank you.
Hiw do we send in a recipie? Thanks!
You are so welcome! We hope you get to enjoy this soon. Summer has found us!
I would leave the brown sugar out, too much sugar for my liking in this dish but I would use the nuts, toasting them first and mixing them into the salad.
I absolutely love this salad. My aunt served it about 20 years ago,

My husband passed away 4 years ago, and I was spending between 150.00 and 200.00, never over that, and most of time the lesser amount, that said, I do cook all my meals and rarely eat out. We are big fans of grape salad in this house. 😊
Thank you for all your kindness your recipes
I appreciate you guys
We love this salad, and we have been making it for years. Sometimes, we top it with grape-nuts cereal, and it is delicious and crunchy. We look forward to your videos every week. Thank you both.
Thank you so much for the kind words. That means so much to us. The idea with the cereal sounds wonderful, too! Thanks for sharing your tip.
Gonna' try this one😊
We definitely recommend it.
I’ve made this with toasted slivered almonds on top❤

That's a great tip! I've never had grapes like that, but it sounds really good. We hope you also get to try this recipe. It's a really special treat.
This is a great dish to bring to a picnic and the gluten free folks will be able to enjoy it as well. Looks delishous! 😋
We thought it was an amazing salad. A definite keeper in our opinion. Thank you so much for watching our channel. We sure appreciate it.
This is a favorite around here. I’ve made this for family gatherings, church dinners but it is always a must for showers and I’ve made it in a punch bowl for a wedding.

You know, I think I could, too! It's that good! We do appreciate that you are watching our channel. Hope you are having a great Sunday afternoon.
A woman at my church made this and she used red, purple & green grapes and chopped up snickers bars for the topping. It was delicious too!
This recipe is a hit everywhere you take it!
My Grandma made this wonderful salad to take to church Pot Luck! Haven’t had it in 50 years. Thank you for bringing back a lovely memory of my beloved grandma Billy.. (why I called her that at as toddler, we ‘ll never know, but it suck) 😅😅😅
Thank you Tom & Melissa. That looks so delicious & refreshing!? Cant wait to try this!!
HI Tom it looks like a grape crumble another one to make it looks so yummy thanks again have a great day❤
My Mom had a friend that made this salad with cool whip and black grapes and nuts stirred together. It was delicious.

First. Love you guys even during a tornado warning here in London!
FROM ALABAMA USA---I HOPE EVERY ONE IS OKAY AND NO DAMAGE FROM THE TORNADO
We are fine, thank you
I mix together Cool whip, whipped cream cheese, vanilla bean and brown sugar. Add the black, green and red grapes and serve.
That sounds great, too. We love how refreshing this salad is for summer. Thanks so much for watching our channel.
This looks absolutely delicious like you my favorite fruits are grapes and bananas so now I will be searching for your banana salad recipe as always thank you for sharing your recipes!❤️

Wow, that looks delicious. I wonder how the salad would taste if you substituted some crushed ginger snaps for the brown sugar?
Love the simplicity of the recipes you choose to make. It helps that you show the exact ingredients you use to make each recipe and then demonstrate how you put it all together. Thanks for sharing.
I remember my foods and nutrition teacher, back in high school, telling me ‘ the sign of a good cook is someone who will scrape the mixing bowl clean while making a recipe.’ I loved that teacher. You would certainly meet her approval. So many awesome looking recipes try from you two I can’t keep up! 😃
It looks delicious! I had forgotten about this salad and can't wait to make it again!
😋😋😋love grapes so easy
Thank you so much for sharing this!❤
Thats somthing grandma and mom would make in the 70s. for thanks giveing
Just watched you banana salad video it so delicious and refreshing. Thank ya'll so much 💓 💗 💖 💛
My late Mom used to make something like this. I believe I have had this salad at least 50 times in my life. Is usually on any Lartz Family Reunion food table.
I can’t wait to make this! Looks delicious!!
I will definitely be making this for our Memorial Day family cook out!
I have not tried this before. I am shopping soon for these ingredients and I will be trying it!
WOW, I have never heard of this but, I really enjoy grapes. Definitely going to make this and share with my daughter and her family.
Please ke ep going with the subscriber Sundays living all the recipes so far
I love that you folks use others recipes on Sundays. That's fun. I think I would try a small bowl on the side with celery added to see if that would make an interesting crunch to the grapes. If it doesn't work than no harm.
That's a great way to try it out. Since the grapes are fresh and not cut up, we thought this had a nice texture to it.
I haven't had this since Momma went with the Lord . This October will be four years. Thank you more than you can imagine. ❤
😅 for a millisecond, I
thought you weren't going to scrape the bowl. ❤
We use black grapes, brown sugar, slivered almonds and vanilla. The best
I've missed you. So glad I have you back.
Hi!!! Been awhile since I have contacted you and Melissa....got to try the Grape Salad.... hope you are healthy...and well.❤
My daughters will love this. Thank you.
Always Enjoy, Looks Great, Thank you, Happy Memorial Day!!😀
Looks delicious! Thanks for a great summer salad!
This looks so yummy! Cool and creamy for a hot summer picnic or cookout.
It really is! We think it's great for that! We appreciate that you are watching our channel.
This is a great salad! I omit the brown sugar and mix the pecans in with the cream cheese mixture. Thank you Melissa & Tom! Also I hope you and your Family are safe from the tornado that went through. ❤
I love subscriber Sunday videos, I have tried several and they were wonderful !
That's a good idea Melissa to layer it with the brown sugar.
Yummy! I think I could eat this for a dessert!
I make this recipe with the butterfingers as well😋
I’ve missed a few of the Sunday series. I’m using this afternoon to go thru and catch up with what I’ve missed. Love your site SO much. Thank you.

Happy memorial Day everyone and God bless you all 💕👍🙏❤️
We made this grape salad yesterday and it is absolutely delicious! We did have some right after making it, but found out it is best left in fridge overnight ❤️
I think it's one of my favorite subscriber recipes. It's good when you first make it, but I do agree that it's even better after its had a while to sit.
I’ve always mixed it together after it was refrigerated
This recipe looks so good and refreshing. I can’t wait to make it. Thank you so much.
I just adore your channel! Always looking 👀 and waiting for the next video ! Thank you both 🙏🏼
Yum!!! It is like Chicken Salad Chick grape salad. The brown sugar & pecans are a topping on theirs also.
I've only eaten at a Chicken Salad Chick one time, and I missed that they had the grape salad. That's good to know. We don't have one of their restaurants in our hometown so it's a vacation stop for us sometimes. I'm glad to know they have this salad.
Another one to make soon.....Thank you both...thumbs up.
I'll be making this! 😋 Yum 😋🤤🤤🤤❤❤❤❤ Thank you both and all who send in these yummy recipes, God Bless!
Thank you so much for the kind words. We truly have had some amazing recipes sent in. We have great cooks watching our channel.
This Grape Salad recipe looks so delicious 😋Mr. Tom.
Looks yummy. I agree with Melissa that maybe put half ogf grapes in bowl then add half of the brown sugar & pecans . That add the rest of grapes and the other half of toppings 🎉. Going to make it this summer, for sure 😊
We thought it was a very successful dish! So good! Thanks so much for watching our channel. It's great having you at the table with us.
I have wanted a grape salad recipe. I most certainly will put this one to use. Thankyou
