  • Want to learn what the PIN Configuration on a relay is? We go over the basics to how a 5 pin or 4 pin relay operates. Relays are devices used to control a high amperage device with a low amperage device as the control like a switch or security system module.
    *Remember to use a relay in conjunction with a fuse at all times*.

    I always wondered how to utilize relays. Everytime I research it, I would get distracted. Watching videos like these would inform and get me involved with it. 👍👍👍

    how about a simple diagnostic test to see if the relay is functioning

      That's a really good idea! I'll put it on the video idea list.

    Thanks for the insight I've been trying to find more information on what and how the 5 pin was for/used... was told that you could make a bi directional with one but seems like you would require more than one.

      That's correct. I had to use 2 relays in order to maintain forward and reverse in a mini ride in car ua-cam.com/video/BsuRonS4AbA/v-deo.html

    I am about to hook up a lightbar with a harness that includes a relay and fuse. Am I fine to power it direct from the battery or do I need to draw power from a fuse only has power when the ignition is on? I was concerned that there would be a power drain if my vehicle was parked for a couple weeks. Thanks for the video

      @AnthonyJ350  Рік тому +2

      You can power it from the battery, just put a fuse inline. Hook up 85 to a switch that goes to ground, hook up 86 to ignition (with another fuse inline) and hook up pin 30 to your lightbar. When you turn off your ignition, everything will always shut off.

    I have a 5 pin relay under my dash that the previous owner installed and i dont know how it works. Theres a toggle switch running right from the battery that goes into the relay, and the rest of the wires go back to my ignition switch wires (spliced into the factory harness). When the switch is off the starter doesnt engage but with the switch turned on the car starts normal and will keep running even if you remove the key unless the switch is turned off. Is this the system you were talking about in this video?

      Sort of, but I wouldn't wire it in that manner.

    So if I have extra lights on a rack in my pickup facing backwards and I want them to come on when I put the truck in reverse, but also want a switch inside the cabin that turns on the light when I want to use them as work lights. How would I wire that up?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Рік тому +1

      You can wire 2 relays. One on a switch and the other activated by the factory reverse lights.

    Hey Anthony so I have a question that I've been trying to figure out,now let's say on my car I put in DRLs and I want to use a relay thats takes it off when I put on my headlight now mind you it's one relay I have in mind to use but essentially when I hit the switch to put on the DRLs it powers on ,but when I use that same switch to turn on my headlight that same relay cuts the power to the DRLs and powers on my headlight..is that possible with 1 relay??

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  2 роки тому +1

      You could do it with one. Pin 86 on ignition and pin 85 on the headlight switch. When it's off the headlight switch will be ground allowing it to turn on and work and when you turn on your lights it will go positive and the relay will be no longer energized.

    I have unusual question I have some back fead problems with me relays hella 2pin buzzer lights on,bosch 4pin rear windscreen heater ,6pin hella windscreen wiper and 3pin blinker relay siemens .
    I do not have ballast on me xenon bulbs I use common ground conection on me rear bulb holder bulbs are dual filament,me alternatir only use charge light no diode present and the alternator field is bound to 4pin relay on pin 86 .
    Me car self acelerated on me so I try to figure out why and how.
    I only have positive linear voltage regulator and the 4pin gm ignition module as for electronics .
    So I have probably lot problems many wires share common + and - connections.
    So can you please advice how to make seperate circuets and where can I put diodes on those mentioned relays .
    Seperate event that acured insted engine self acelerating the blinker relay one on me started to behave like buzz coil the engine refused to shut of with ignition key off If I use all 4 blinkers I found the cause it was corroded wire on groung rear bulb holder and me common thin black wire started to smoke and bulb at rear were all randomli on all of them those are dual filament bulbs.
    So me question is why and how it is posibel for those multipel relay types to interact with ich other?
    Mostly I suspect the blinker and rear heater relay and the buzzer failed at be as well .
    All relays have ic chips resistors and alredy diodes in them.
    So how is that posibel?
    I did notice current draw on me 4pin relay I took him off because he drained me baterry over night.
    I hoppe for some help against reverse polarity and fack fead problems if posibel how to control those relays properly because some of those unusual effects are usefull .

      What circuit are you using to energize the relays? What are pin 86 and 85 hooked up to?

      @@AnthonyJ350 the problem was probably no diodes to dashboard and alternator didn't have diodes at all ,I did notice the pin 86 I on an 4pin relay was bound to the alternator field there was an split wire I ques the ground wire for that relay lead to the windscreen wiper motor or blower I'm not Shure can't remember properly. I did eventuali give up and made hande wire harness and put every where separate fuses switches separate ground leads for ich device and put at all devices 10amp diodes but still even today's could not trace down the problem . Honestly unusual effects acure some times my battery would even refuse to discharge under low temperatures that effect was centrainli interesting never see it by some one ells happening . Eventuali I opened the buzz relay and it was stuck points it has small transistor inside,the 4 pin defroster relay hade diode damage I ques . So I suppose unusual events happened I'm still sade tough could not figure out how control those effects they can by useful some times. I did make wire diagram only thing I did not do was the head lights and blinker circuit It was such an mess that nearli all devices charge common fuse links with that staff . Ordinari multimeter didn't work I ques my amp setting burned up so I ques it's colideing dual electricity types how much I could understand . Eventuali the problem gone away when I made my own wire harness . Hard to finde the corporet behinde it I did tough brake my hei module and the voltage regulator from the alternator I noticed there were no zener diodes so miss fire random fiering sequences I ques the ignition coil does get effected and the alternator might get confused or out puts some thing ells I also suspect the magnet starter motor that thing has compensation coils inside the starter selenoid S/R type . Well replaced xenon bulbs for ordinari bulbs so far problem disappeared currently. Other staff could not finde any thing suspiciuse even tough observing my wire harness I did finde an mouse chew my ground wire for buzzer relay and ligh above the head but I removed the bulb in that thing long time ago and I did see some damaged wire on hande brake pull lever so but both are ground not positive connections,and only enough the milage counter has bade habbit to ticking stop working only that I did notice over the years when back charge is present milage counter get stuck if it stops back charging the milage counter suddenly starts working . So I suppose reali weard fenomena. I'm sorry but those strange effects plague my for years perhaps some one see this comment and can suggest some thing useful like closed loop alternator regulation or dual out put system or modified closed loop starter motors or some variabel ignition system who don't use chassis ground at all.Im kinde of annoyed at that thing.
