Very interesting. I was always under the idea that such small wires are pretty weak. Can this break the wire inside of the insulation, causing future problems?

Depends on the quality of wire honesty.

Another thing to consider is 100% copper vs copper clad, aluminum has a different resistance rating than copper clad. It's something somebody might run into if they are running something from the front all the way to the back...I like to keep it copper, short as possible, and tidy, away from heat or moving parts...And out of sight!

Thanks for sharing! Problem in harnessing you are at the mercy of what the manufacturer provides. For wire on the reel I agree, pure copper and marine rated.

Thanks for the info! I was wonder does this compromise the wire? Or for small gauge wire?
Nvm I finished watching the video. You answered my question about smaller gauge

As a general rule, spin power and grounds together. Spin Hi and Low signal wires together. Keep signal and power wires separately to avoid possible bleeding of signal on to your power...Old School, we would run power down one side, and run signal wires the other side. Shielded wiring negates this.

Ya this video was to give ideas if you're wiring anything. Remote start/ security, lighting etc. Doesn't have to be just audio.

Don't twist at the connector. Try it with scrap wire and inspect it after.

“Spinning”? You mean twisting, right? This is usually what beginners fall in love with when they first find out about it. Doing it is fine, just don’t ever plan on adding to it because bye bye “clean” wiring. You would be better off using harness tape and having your install blend in with the OEM wiring. Please do not do this in a vehicle. In a boat, sure, vehicle no.

Oh and here is the job I did in my car 5 years ago (still have the car) spun wires individually and some together. No Integration harness available, the car is a mix of high current analog and CANBUS. Ran wires into the door to control the factory window modules and ran wires for the electric gas lid. Tesa tape the rest and 3M super 33 for insulation.

This is what you should definitely NOT do. First of all you’re wasting time to make something that will be hidden under the dash look nicer. Second, you are twisting those wires way too tight. They’re definitely stressed to hell. Third, you’re creating a nightmare if you ever have to go back and troubleshoot anything. Just using Tesa tape in moderation would look better and it wouldn’t damage the wires or hinder a future troubleshoot.

Why are you troubleshooting right at the middle all the time? Why aren't you checking at the source or device? You do see that I don't twist it tight at the connector right?
Also have you noticed on highly sensitive devices, they'll twist wire from factory?

I don't do it specifically for this reason, but there are other merits www.allaboutcircuits.com/tools/twisted-pair-impedance-calculator/
What do you do for a living, may I ask?

So if you're having issues twisting wire, you're probably using inferior product or you don't know how to do it properly.

@@AnthonyJ350 I’m an MECP Advanced installer. It’s not a matter of where you’re testing, but at times there may be instances where the source and the device test fine but the issue is with the wiring. Sure, you may be leaving slack at the connector but you’re stressing the actual wire underneath the insulation. As for twisted wires from factory, that’s usually just the case for data wires and they’re not twisted that tight.

@@AnthonyJ350 and I haven’t had any issues personally with my installations, however I have encountered issues from other installers. As for product, I only use OFC spool wire and for RS, harnesses from Directed/Firstech/iData.
