I’m also a fifteen-year-old composer. I think you understand how much fun do we have during composing. This piece sounds nice. I might suggest you to use more ornaments if you want to imitate Chopin’s waltz style.

The melody is very nice, but the harmonies are pretty uninteresting (all I hear is a I and a V). I would suggest spending some time to learn basic harmony, it’s really going to elevate your compositions.
@@Daniel20587no worries. Spend more time composing and be daring in trying more colourful harmonies! Wish to see unexpected surprises and changes in keys/chords! Perhaps after you have fully explored common practice harmony, you could try step into harmony vocabulary of 20th century and beyond.
reminded me of the A minor waltz (no.3) Definitely not bad for a young composer, though i have some thoughts about the positioning of the crescendos...
Quite impressive, especially for such a young age. That's more complex than the pieces I was composing at your age, I imagine by time you're 20 you'll have surpassed me in abilities (and I don't just mean because of my arthritis). I'm 100% serious. Keep up the great work!
Compositional techniques and conventions have been evolving for centuries. The art of composition is making "anything" sound interesting, compelling, entertaining. Harmony I and V are simply fine if you can compensate for their mediocrity with other musical elements. That is what a composer is trained to do. There is no one answer. Using a greater number of chords or harmonies will not fix anything without sufficient and interesting collateral material and ideas. Excellent "first draft." Now, you have the basic musical idea you want to express, how are you able to take your idea to it’s fullest and most satisfying, not just for you, but your audience.
I really like your waltz🎉 the melody is really rememberable!! The recording sounds very balanced, especially between the chords and the melody. Apart from the harmony, did you do some type of adjustment in musescore that the melody is easier to hear? When I use Musescore the melody is always the same volume as the bass, which is annoying. Do you have a tip?
Excellent work! Can I suggest starting and ending some of the phrases not on the first or last beat of the bar? Try some syncopation. Analyse and transcribe some of your favourite phrases from Chopin. I’m a lecturer in music at a university in the UK and would be very happy to have student like you!
Hey Ying Bawm, what a great piece! I really love the Chopin-nese style! I am also a composer, but a very unexperienced and unprofessional kind, could you give me tips to improve ? It would mean A LOT if you could stop by me and tell me what I could do better, all critiques are welcomed !
I say listen to chopin pieces more, learn chopin piece. Use a bit of the technique from the piece, take inspiration from it. Learn his composition structure. Check En blanc et noir's Chopin waltz style in UA-cam. Hope it helps
Definelty love Chopin as I notice it sounds like C sharp minor and b flat minor waltzes in some ways. I would suggest exploration and experimentation maybe try and use different keys to modulate to even for just a second and ornamentation and maybe contrasting episode in the piece. Lots of chopins waltzes have a contrasting section usually a shift in mood listen to the middle section of the C sharp minor waltz or e minor waltz has a bunch of different episodes. I think also experiment with ways to break up the left hand some more and the rhythm too if it’s too much 1-2-3 1-2-3 music tends to drag and feel really heavy so maybe write an arpeggiated chord or maybe start to experiment different places to put notes and rests maybe even give the melody to the left and accompaniment to the right hand! There are many patterns besides the bass root to the chord vamp in the left hand. These decisions of how you can use sound to evoke an image or sound in your mind is where you will definitely find your unique brand
im a thirteen year old pianist-composer and arranger, This waltz is very Chopinesque and sounds very good, reminds me a lot of Chopin's Op.69 no.2 in B minor, I highly suggest you to add a constrasting B section where in you hear something light but also something dark at the same time. also its cool to do chromatic progressions but not too much (kind of a late Chopin thing)
The best waltzes are rhythmically interesting. This sticks pretty heavily to a strict 1-2-3. Try listening to romantic period waltzes and listening for varied accompaniment patterns and Melodies that cross over bar lines. Harmony could be more interacting, and tempi could be faster. People dance to waltzes.
This is so nice! Do you mind if I recorded a rendition of this piece for my UA-cam channel as well? I'm currently looking for cool pieces from around the internet to compile in a "musical findings" series and I think this would be an great addition! :) (And of course I'd link directly to your channel and anywhere else you'd like me to as well so others can check out your music!)
Man as a piano practitioner for 3 years, i’ve only play intermediate works of liszt and chopin (most advance piece is liebestraum no.2) …sooo im gonna guess its chopin + someone else and Im gonna perform this to my teacher xDD
Oh wow, i have read like 37 seconds of the comment section and im surprised that there are many more young composers than i thought, lol, i would like to know how to compose for piano and not just spamming accords, i will take a look at your channel for some time, hopefully learnıng something new
Nice setup! I think you shouls try to add more structural constrast in the piece. The armonic succesions are correct, and for your age is i big thing. The problems woth this kind of compositions is that it's very easy to fall in the shadow of something already seen and listened. Infact other people pointed out the fact the piece reminds Chopin, wich is not a bad thing, at the contrary! I would suggest you to continue to imitate and at the same time tring to find something different, to diverge from the rails, structurely or harmonically or both. If you want, you could check my channel, I try to compose to and once in a while something interesting pops out. I also posted a B minor Waltz! I would be glad to hear you out about it.
It's nice, but I believe it lacks some variety. In other words, I want you to add more sections that are in contrast with what you have right now in order to make this waltz more interesting. Sorry if this sounded too harsh, I just wanted to let you know...
I have some waltzes too. im 12, check out my channel! I recommend making that forte at the beginning to a mf or mp. forte kinda threw me off. Love the piece though!
My advice would be to avoid fermatas anywhere in a waltz. They're designed for dancing, and in my opinion it really interrupts the rhythm of the piece.
Melody was fine but harmonization was very boring, cadence didnt feel like an end and also, it really needs a modulation to a major key, your waltz is in b minor so d major would be suitable

Good job! I started writing piano music when I was around 15, style has changed so much since then.
16 year old composer/arranger myself, great piece! love the harmonic structure of the piece. Keep it up!
Very good, I'm 26 and have been honing my college skills in music comp.
Keep up the great work , God bless you!
I like the simplicity, especially the delicate “music box” feeling at the end. 🎵
Literally Chopin's waltz in b minor with a tiny difference in melody

This is genius why isn't this piece being played at the carnegie hall everyday it literally changed my life thank you.
what this is so cool
almost sounds like it would be iconic piece from 1800s but its contemporary
Nice work! In addition to what others here have already said, I would suggest that you introduce more melodic phrases that end on the tonic.
Beautiful piece! I am also a 15 year old composer like others here in the comments. I will listen to your other pieces aswell!
