  • Welcome back to DIYWILLY and today’s episode we will take a look at the new to me BRIGGS and Stratton 5hp engine. I’ve always wanted to build one of these engines and have never had the chance until now. I happen to find a long block on eBay and well this is my chance to work with one. In this video I will assembly the engine with all the original missing parts and see if it will start or is that the reason it was for sale. In future episodes I will install all the common go fast parts and see just how fast this Briggs will run in a minibike.
    So follow along as we continue to improve and build the Briggs and Stratton 5hp engine.

      I am looking forward to getting at it. I need to learn so much about the Briggs engines now. Trial and error is how I learn. • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  Рік тому +2

      I really don’t have any plans for it. I’ve always liked the flat head engines and when this showed up cheap on eBay I took a chance. Now that it’s running I’ll try it in one of the minibikes and see how it rides. After that I think of building it with all the billet $$$ stuff and detail it out to look nice. If I can find another frame I could use it in it would be nice to have an old school bike.
      You should get your engine out and work on it. I find it very relaxing..

    • @DIYWilly
      @DIYWilly  9 днів тому +1

      Hello Reese, Do I think it will explode? No.. But it all depends on the build of the engine and how you use it. I would ride this bike with a broken governor at short shots of full throttle (approx 37mph) this engine never failed. Checkout all the videos on this engine. Thanks for watching!!

      Thanks I appreciate it, should bolt up on a 3.5 Briggs as well I think. I’ve been building 3.5hps and trying to make some power with them. I made a custom manifold for mine and don’t want to spend the time to make one for my brothers 3.5 so that manifold looks like it will work. On the carb side is it the same bolt pattern for a vm22 carb?

      EC carburetors have a better manifold. I use their manifold in place of this one.

I’m going to put it in the 224 bikes frame and take the Briggs for a ride. I noticed the output shaft is long. Could be a good thing to help align the clutch and chain.
