    Thanks for this demo. Just received my Janome quilting machine today and this really helped me with a first successful practice run at free motion quilting. My 20-year-old starter machine wouldn’t fmq very well and I thought it was me. But your video helped prove it wasn’t me.

    Hi there, I found this really helpful. I have a mc8200qcpse which I love and it came with this fmq set. I’ve never done fmq but I want to learn. It was especially helpful to learn about adjusting the level of the foot to suit the thickness of the fabric/quilt. Thank you so much.

    Amy Ive had this quilting set forever and wasn't sure how exactly to use it. What a lifesaver to someone who was afraid to try fmq! I am in much better control of my quilting now! Thank you so much! In my kit there is a white plastic quilting plate that I have no idea what to do with. It seems to want to clip onto something but I don't have a clue. Hope you see this and can tell me what to do with it. Would appreciate some feedback please.

      It's likely a feed dog cover plate. Some some machines don't have drop feed.

    Great information offered here. Not only about adjusting the foot but explaining height adjustments on various quilt sandwiches. This is not obvious to everyone....especially me so I'm very grateful for this information. Thank you.

    Thank you for this video, I have been sewing since the year dot but never done free motion so watching how you put the foot and adjusting it has been a great help. So now I will be having a go.

    I have FINALLY been successful with these feet! Finally learned to screw down the foot to touch the quilt surface. I also used a thread conditioner - not sure if that was needed. I DO wish Janome had put some instructions with the feet - I sure was unhappy for a long time, until recent success, 3 months later.

      Elaine Adair I am so glad to hear it! Sorry I didn't respond to your earlier post. It does not hop and that takes some getting used to. Bulky seams and applique need the foot to be adjusted higher. Too high and stitch formation issues can arise. But I still love it.

    Amy, I have a Janome Memory Craft 6500 and I was wondering which ruler foot fits that machine. I had one with my Janome 7700 just like the one you have here, but I guess it went with that machine when I sold it. Will this one here fit the 6500? Thanks so much. ~Cynthia

      You'll want to get the low shank version. Since this video came out, Janome introduced a ruler foot only version in both high and low shank versions called the quarter inch ruler foot. You can see it here at my site or check with your local dealer: www.amyquilts.com/shop/c/p/Janome-14-inch-Ruler-Foot-for-Low-Shank-Machines-x46433028.htm

    Hi Amy, please help me. I just bought the Convertible free motion quilting foot set for my 9mm Janome Skyline S5. But my problem is the needle which is not centered in the foot opening. It is located too much to the right even if my needle is centered. On the Quilting kit written"Janome Quilting Kit for MC9900, 9mm Skyline and 9mm Atelier". Is it possible that this Kit does not fit to my 9mm Janome anyway ? Help me, please. Thank you.

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  3 роки тому

      The S6 should have come with a spring type, hopping darning/FMQ foot. Not my favorite. I recommend the Janome Convertible set for your machine: www.amyquilts.com/shop/c/p/Janome-Convertible-Free-Motion-Foot-Set-for-9mm-Machines-x42589325.htm

    amy, I just bought the Convertible free motion quilting foot set but my problem is the needle

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  8 років тому

      I'd bet that you've got the wrong version for your machine. The Janome 1600 version has the foot sit out farther forward. If you've got that version on a machine that is a regular high shank, the needle will be really close to the back of the foot. The Frame Quilting Foot Set (which has the ruler foot in it) is packaged for the 1600, but fits on all convertible foot sets (high, low, 9mm high), which makes some dealers and consumers think they need the 1600 version.

    Hi Amy. I have just purchased a 9400 and not sure which set to purchase, someone told me my machine has a high shank but I see on the packaging for the conversion set that it is for low shank machines. Your advice would be appreciated.

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  7 років тому +1

      There are different versions of the convertible free motion foot set. Your machine could use the one for 9mm high shank machines, however, I am told they are coming out with a better ruler foot for machines like yours with the auto foot lift.

    My echo foot has no red on the markings which I like as so many of the red markings seem to hinder what I'm seeing. It was probably an accident that it came that way.

    • @AmyQuilts

      Peggy R the 9mm version has one with and one without the red. Maybe a mix up?😊

    Have a question/problem. When I remove original presser foot and attach the free motion foot, the screw does not tighten down properly to secure the foot. It flops around. When I ordered this set, it said it fit the Janome RX18S. Does it need a different screw, or am I not doing something correctly?

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  7 років тому

      It shouldn't take a different screw. I'm not familiar with that model machine, but if it's the right foot, it should go on with no problem. Check to make sure your screw isn't damaged (maybe cross-threaded) or the attachment area hasn't gotten bent somehow (unlikely).

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  9 років тому

      Margaret Hogan Yes! It will work. The "ruler toe" is packaged to go on the convertible free motion foot set for the 1600, but it fits on all the convertible free motion foot sets, even the one for the 9900. Don't worry, your dealer isn't the first to say it won't fit when it will.

    Amy do have any connection with Janome? Cause not having the instructions in their 👎 book is frustrating. Help, tell those 🦃 butts. Lol. What if you don't have a computer to look it up.
    For fm what is the stitch length. Help plse. Are you the one with quilting books?

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  5 років тому +1

      This video was shot about 2 years before I became a Janome dealer. There is no stitch length given for free motion because your hands control your stitch length in free motion. Since the feed dogs are down, you could change the stitch length to zero, on some machines, other models go to zero automatically when the dogs are dropped, but it doesn't matter because you determine the stitch length. Many of the Janome feet have additional instructions in the packaging, but people may not realize it. A good dealer is a valuable asset for both Janome and the customer to supplement the manual.

    Janome shows these feet as HOPPING. Mine will only glide with negative results. Your video shows them gliding. I am successful at MQ with the original hopping foot that came with my Janome 6500. I am not having success with these feet. Why the diff. with hopping vs. gliding?

      +Maria Jasmine Is it possible that the foot you have seen from Janome was on one of their Artistic brand long arms? Those do hop, but this foot doesn't hop on Janome machines.
