just got my 9400 last week, having fun playing around and free motion is what I want to do. I had a 7700 and loved that machine but decided to upgrade. Now have to learn all over again, thank you for your wonderful videos, gives me the encouragement to just go ahead and try!!

Hi Kim, I have this same machine I purchased Feb 2017. I'm so glad to see your videos. You mentioned to set your stitch length to zero. Could you please tell me how to do that?
Hi Cherie: This is adjusted at the bottom of the display screen once you have chosen your stitch. You'll see the stitch length and/or needle position, depending on the stitch. Unfortunately, this isn't an option when using Free Quilting, under the Sewing Application window, although I apparently thought it was - oops! You could use the Utility stitch 1 with the PD-H foot, drop your feed dogs, turn your stitch length to zero and that should work too.
NOTE: You cannot change your stitch length to zero when using the Free Quilting under the Sewing Application. You could use the Utility 1 stitch, drop your feed dogs and then lower your stitch length to zero and quilt.
Thank you, so much for your video's on the Janome 9400...One questions what is the purpus for using the very small feet. Would these be better for small quilting areas..Thanks in advance.
A good question, Rita! I think they would work best for more intricate designs as there is not much foot to get in the way of your vision. Sometimes the PD-H foot seems a bit big, depending on what you are stitching.
Hi Kim, I was wondering if you can change the foot height when using the PD-H foot?
I have learned a lot from your videos and passed your website onto my Dealer.
If you take a look at your manual on page 92, you will see information on how to adjust the foot height for the small free motion feet and I think that this would work just as well for the PD-H foot. Just choose the Straight Stitch 2 stitch, put on the PD-H foot and then you should be able to adjust the foot height.

Thanks, Betty. I don't have the 9450, so am wanting to learn the differences as well. I know it has better lighting, has some additional attachments and some new features. Hopefully, I'll get more information on it and can provide my viewers with a comparison.
Hi, Kim. Do the Janome feet fit on the Pfaff? My Pfaff Essential Ambition is low shank. Just learning to machine Quilt. Took a great class from Valli Schiller, from Naperville, IL, who came to our Quilt Guild in Elizabeth , IL.
Hi Barb: I don't think they will as the Janome 9400 is a high shank machine and yours is a low shank. As far as I know they aren't compatible. :(
Hi, very helpful your video. I am about to buy a sewing machine. I am in love with MC 15,000 because I was thinking to use the hoops for quilting, since I am not very clever with free motion, but it is completely out of my budget . So , this machine 9450 has almost the same , big space to work, 11”. Without the hoops.
I will appreciate any advice to improve my quilting

I love your sewing table. Can you share what brand it is?
This is a cabinet from Sylvia Designs. I'm not sure that you can get this exact one anymore, but they have lots of different styles.
Can you buy an open toed foot using the Accufeed system on the 9450? Also can you buy a stitch in the ditch foot using Accufeed?
I would check with your local Janome dealer on what feet are available for the 9450 for use with the AcuFeed system. I know that you can buy a SID foot as I have one for my machine.
Excellent video. What thread are you using in that big cone?
I think that is my Auriful Mako 50 weight cotton. First time using this on my machine and it runs very well.
Chatterboxquilts wow did not know Aurifil made such big cones. Have to check into that

Hi Kim. Thank you for the great videos! What do you have added on to the back of the machine that hold the big cone of thread? Also, how did you thread your machine with that big cone? Can you tell me what type of drop table you are using? Thank you in advance for your help!
Hi Debbie: You're welcome! This is a two cone thread holder that is an optional accessory and so very helpful as I typically buy my thread on cones. This accessory comes with a little piece that fits into the small hold inside the lid when you lift it up (you'll see it at the front). I'm not sure of the part #, but this one fits both the Janome 8900 and the 9400 - just search for two cone thread holder online and you should be able to find it. My table is a Sylvia cabinet that I've had for several years. It has four drawers down one side, an extra shelf that flips up on the back (handy for quilting) and a small shelf that flips out on my right side. There are also storage areas under the left side of the table - the part that folds up when I push the machine down into the cabinet. Love this cabinet!

Hi Cloe: This works well for thread painting as it covers more area without you having to move the fabric back and forth as much- the machine will do this for you. I'll have another video out in a few weeks to show you more about this stitch on the Janome 9400.
What kind of foot do you use when using a quilting ruler? Do you demonstrate this on You Tube?

There is a specific ruler foot that is used when doing ruler quilting. I do have videos that show the type of ruler but not specifically actual ruler quilting. I have information on this in my private online club, The Quilter's Way.

Hi Kathy: It is a Sylvia Designs desk. I don't think they make this exact model anymore but have similar ones. You can find out more at www.sylviadesign.com/. I really like it - lots of storage and functionality and I love how it folds up and is on wheels to easily make it smaller and get it to another area easily.

I noticed your machine has an attachment to utilize cone thread. I primarily use cone thread & I really need this gadget. It was not offed by my dealer, where can I get one, please.
This is a 2 spool thread attachment that you can get from your Janome dealer. Check with them to ensure you get the right one as there are different accessory numbers for different Janome sewing machines.
Check with different dealers. I found one out of three had that particular attachment for the back of the machine for comb thread. The other dealers didn't even know what it was and they sold janome's
How go you echo your free motion quilting without it going to a zigzag stitch
I'm not sure what you mean by a zigzag stitch. Free Motion quilting is done with a straight stitch.
