  • What is a desirable record, what is a collectable, what is this craze with audiophile box sets?
Let's discuss William Basinski's incredible Complete Disintegration Loops, relative to the recent Bill Evans reissue, and let's do it in the comment section as well!
EDIT . there was some weird issue with the mic, which made the whole video's sound very muffled IMO. So unless you guys tell me it's alright, I'll re-record this tomorrow.
If this was helpful and you want to help this silly little channel to do more of this and further, it really makes a difference : ko-fi.com/stunty

YES. Battle of the Billys. I have never seen the Basinski boxset with my own eyes - it has been on my 'wantlist' for many many years. I hope Temporary Residence considers a repress. Would be wise! The Lawrence English collab ('Selva Oscura') and the release 'The Deluge' are two of my recent faves from Basinski. And for the older works excluding D Loops, I love the 'Water Music', 'Silent Night' and the 'El Camino Real' pieces. Living legend. Thanks for this interesting commonalities of these two box sets.

I was frankly impressed the first time I heard Basinski. I don't remember exactly what it was that I was doing, but I do remember that I ended up leaving everything and being impregnated and absorbed by the sound of these disintegration loops. It was something that my body and mind needed. I wanted to understand what was happening behind such a subtle yet profound message. And then I red the whole story you explain here…It was a beautiful connection experience. Please TR, more boxsets for this piece of art. I need one 🫶🏻
Stunty, I hope to see you on friday! 🖖🏻

My friend, I have been curious about the pre-recorded content for a Livestream. I think this was a big success for you. The audio was fine. Doing this solo and then interacting with viewers with your “hands free” seems like the best way to go.

Basinski >>>> Evans. I owned the Basinksi box for a few years but had to get ahold of some cash quick and selling that did the trick. Still hurts a bit but it was for a good cause. If i remember correctly, they made it clear upon release that this would never be repressed.... If it does happen, i'm definitely getting it again.

I was very aware of Disintegration Loops at the time having been in the city during the attacks. However that day I was not there. Regardless these recordings and the music is so tethered to that experience of being there. Especially even in the days after as strange airs and constant dust and eerie feelings were surrounding the city. It's an essential release that I did own on cd, the box set but decided to sell it in the hopes I would pick up the vinyl box. But that is still something to attain. Nice work

Great video Stunty. I’m familiar with Basinski and have a couple of his albums. I was not familiar with this box set however. I will be inquiring of my like minded music friends to see if anyone has this set and if I might have a listen. Otherwise, I’ll have to see if it’s streaming. Thanks for a thoughtful and insightful video. ✌🏼

I think that Disintegration Loops was the first thing that I heard from William Basinski, but the only thing that I have bought, so far, is his Variations for Piano & Tape. I didn't know that this box set had been released. Most of the Bill Evans that I like is his solo piano albums from the 1960's and 1970's. Thanks, Chris

Intresting thoughts there. I do not own the Bill Evans box, even if I would like to have it, but it's way to pricey for me so I will enjoy the single release albums instead. Nice boxset with William Basinski, never seen that before, but I will give it a try online. Cheers!

Stunty, I’m asking you because nobody in the jazz VC seems to know this artist or album, and after discovering it, and having a copy sent out from The Netherlands, I’m completely obsessed with it, and I realized that if anyone might know this album, you would. Do you know The Stefano Maltese Quintet album Amour Fati??

Bill Evans is so boring to my ears, maybe I can save some tracks, but not an entire record so I don't get the excitement. But I found your point very relevant about the $$$$ price of a boxset filled with available records :). It tells more about the conservative US jazz reissue business than anything else. Basinski is from an another planet, I'm glad that you emphasizes his beautiful work, Selva Oscura is one of my favourite. Thanks Stunty, your channel is a lifeboat in the vc ;)
