I worked with the elderly for decades. This lady has the beginnings of dementia. They are easily confused and become combative when they are confronted with reality. I hope her family is able to stop her before the scammers get all her money. When that happens, the scammers get mean and threatening.

The fact that I still often wonder about her and say a quick prayer for her, wherever she is, even today, is evidence that it was bad ( a bad memory ) even in the 1970s.

Alz. and dementia (and a LOT of nervicular issues like MS) are non-linear: they develop extremely slowly, it comes and goes. this case is pretty OBVIOUS, but the money is also obviously GONE.
Remember that the only way we can fight against this is to spread the word. Talk to the old people in your family to make sure they know about these scams before they happen.
I’ve talked to ladies going through this. This lady gets a lot of attention from the scammer and she loves him so she doesn’t want to believe it could be possible that he is lying to her.

Omg,that’s just really tragic ,I’m 74 and I’ve been single for over 40 years ,i don’t get lonely ,I don’t have a boyfriend,I don’t want a boyfriend I love myself ,I live in an assisted living facility and have fur 7 years now have on,y a few friends two are men (friends only)and the rest are women and they are employees here,I’m a retired nurse,so I get along with the staff on our skilled nur unit on the 2nd floor ,we have a lot of very gullible elderly people here ,I’m glad I’m not one of them ,I pity this poor woman .

I worked with the elderly for decades. This lady has the beginnings of dementia. They are easily confused and become combative when they are confronted with reality. I hope her family is able to stop her before the scammers get all her money. When that happens, the scammers get mean and threatening.

My best friend mom killed herself last March because of this type of fraud. She lost over 750,000 in 3 years. . It made Québec news and hundred of people who parents and relatives were victim as well reached out to my friend. In Granby Quebec, An investigation is ongoing. We need to push legislations to change the law so we can protect our seniors. We need to change the law so we can support our relatives victim of fraud.

I worked at a Walgreens in Florida and plenty of older people come in who are being scammed. Some of y'all need to monitor your parents and grandparents. They'd come in and explain that tech support/ a lover/ or a blackmailer needs the gift cards. It was sad to watch.

When I was in middle school, there was this girl that used to ride our school bus who thought that one of the pop stars of the time was in love with her. She would write him letters all the time. Yes, I always wondered about that girl on the school bus. She was not openly bullied that I could see, but she wasn’t liked either. No one really sat with her on the bus. She was heavy ( way overweight for her age). I had just moved to this small town with my mom after her divorce, and I did not know her history, but I often said “Hi” to her as I walked down the bus aisle to my assigned seat. The fact that I still often wonder about her and say a quick prayer for her, wherever she is, even today, is evidence that it was bad ( a bad memory ) even in the 1970s.

Remember that the only way we can fight against this is to spread the word. Talk to the old people in your family to make sure they know about these scams before they happen.
