Billi uses “help” so judiciously. My cat has about 20 buttons so far, and once I introduced “help,” he uses it all the time! If he wants food, he presses “help, food.” If he wants to play, he presses “help, play.” And so on. I never expected that! 😊
What a sweet boy. He is asking you to PARTICIPATE - not just to get food, but for you to give it, share a meal. Not just get a toy - but for you to play together 😻
That makes sense too! If help to him means human involvement or something it makes sense..
That's really interesting. Either "food" or "play" would probably be sufficient on their own, so it's cool your cat is constructing phrases. How old is he? I'm asking because I'm aware Billi first started using buttons when she was already over 10 years old, and she's great with them - so I'm interested to know how younger cats might use them in comparison.

I think for Billi, "outside" means only "outdoors," so yes this was very clever! Smart girl! 😼

Though he has a point, Guppy doesn't seem to be doing anything harm though Billi is maybe scared she will take her place (which she obviously never would), or she's just too old for this.

The vacuum is my 😺 downfall if she sees it she freaks out but if I turn her so she doesn't see it she's fine😂

@@BilliSpeaks I bet Billi's English vocabulary is actually much larger than her button choices. So she has to translate from cat to English and then to button English when she wants to say something new. I always knew cats were really smart. It's amazing to see just how smart they are.

Billi really holds up a mirror to the "gilded cage" of language. We might never think to say that we want to leave a room by saying "bye" to it, because to us, "bye" has such a narrow meaning. Billi may have far fewer words, but her willingness and ability to experiement with words that have a enough of a similarity bridges the gap so much more than one might expect.
@@saoirsevicteoiria2759 I always like to bring the example of the primal languages that for instance have only one word for both green and blue color. Wider palette of words = less ambiguity, more specialization and narrow meanings.

Aww I'm so happy for the ending. I've got 2 rescued street cats who hung out together when they lived on the streets, but they came to live here months apart. The first was happy his friend came in, but I think he expected his old buddy to leave after a few hours. Then his old buddy overstayed his welcome, so there's tension to this day. The other night they battled over sharing my queen sized bed, in the middle of the night of course. They woke me, but I was too zonked to get up, and fell back to sleep. Sometime later I awoke to find one of them sleeping on my leg, and the other one sleeping next to my other leg, with his paw on that leg. I was glad they finally worked it out, if only for that night.

I know this exactly. My 12 year old will allow the 2 year old on the bed so long as he stays on the extreme other end from her. Yesterday she was draped across the head of the bed and he wanted to burrow under the turn-down part of the blanket on the other side. She Was.Not.Having.It!! Started griwling and batting at him through the blanket, even bit the blanket, and drove him back to the foot of the bed! 😂. Sibling rivalry!
That was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh. 😂🤣😂 It's really interesting that Billi uses her words and doesn't even bother to show you what she wants with usual cat language. She used "bye" instead of standing at the closed door, or rattling the door as a cat would normally do. We've seen her use "bye" in a way that seemed aggressive/snarky, and this interaction seems to confirm that intent with her using "bye" here to mean leave -- "go bye bye" in toddler talk.
