I was at Anfield that night. Magnificent game of football and capped off by a dramatic winner. In 52 years of supporting Liverpool, this is definitely up there as one of the very special nights at Anfield.
Being a Newcastle fan, it pains me to see how poor a side we've become.

The best match ever played. When you think about these sides In almost every position there was a similarity. You could argue David ginola was unplayable. But McManaman was better. Beardsley vs Barnes. Newcastle was definitely a champion side that year. But they played the same way that Liverpool did they attacked and never stopped. And for me the partnership of McManaman and Fowler was second to none and this game shows how good they really were as an attacking team
McManaman .... such an underrated player! He was great! Wow I miss those days where a qtr of the national side was LFC!
Amazing how much the game has changed since then…so many tackles that would be yellows or reds now aren't even fouls…I love it! And how about that pace?

This was an incredible game. Was end to end for 90 minutes. You attack, we attack...
I was due to go out the night this was on and started watching it as I was getting ready. Meeting mates at 8.00 eventually got there at 10.00 absolutely exhausted having watched the best game of football I have ever seen.

Obviously England were blessed with forwards but from watching simply just this one game you can see why building the England team around Shearer and McManaman, with Fowler playing off both, would have been better. it's like god sent angels and we played apostates.
