I was at Anfield that night. Magnificent game of football and capped off by a dramatic winner. In 52 years of supporting Liverpool, this is definitely up there as one of the very special nights at Anfield.
A much under-rated Roy Evans side. Played some lovely football, they were just too inconsistent. Not a bad Kevin Keegan side, either. I watched this game live in a pub in Florida, with a couple of Irish lads. A good time was had by all!
This was an incredible game. Was end to end for 90 minutes. You attack, we attack... The only thing missing? Martin Tyler’s iconic commentary... “Collymore closing iiiiiin... Liverpool lead in stoppage time!!!”
I was due to go out the night this was on and started watching it as I was getting ready. Meeting mates at 8.00 eventually got there at 10.00 absolutely exhausted having watched the best game of football I have ever seen. Not a fan of either team but it was unbelievable.....
I was in a pub in North Wales with my Toon top on surrounded by about 40+ Liverpool fans. One of the greatest games I've ever seen (I'm 50+) and those fans didn't let me leave that pub until 3am.
Amazing how much the game has changed since then…so many tackles that would be yellows or reds now aren't even fouls…I love it! And how about that pace?
The best match ever played. When you think about these sides In almost every position there was a similarity. You could argue David ginola was unplayable. But McManaman was better. Beardsley vs Barnes. Newcastle was definitely a champion side that year. But they played the same way that Liverpool did they attacked and never stopped. And for me the partnership of McManaman and Fowler was second to none and this game shows how good they really were as an attacking team
Obviously England were blessed with forwards but from watching simply just this one game you can see why building the England team around Shearer and McManaman, with Fowler playing off both, would have been better. it's like god sent angels and we played apostates.
When you see the referee and the linesmen at the beginning you know that this was pure football . No Show, no tam tam, no bla bla, just football. Good old days
Honestly, this game was entertaining as hell, but it was partially so because it was played between two sides who were infested by mistakes, lapses in concentration, and in some cases outright rubbish quality particularly where it came to the link up play between defence and midfield. Particularly Liverpool. Some of the blame for this can probably be laid with the quality of the surface, I'm happy to concede that much, although classic 70's and 80's Liverpool went and played world-class football on little more that mud-pits at times. Both sides had some genuine quality going forward, and they played to their strengths, especially Newcastle, and so a cricket score was always going to happen. When I compare the Liverpool of back then to the Liverpool of now, they would have torn this pale imitation of a Liverpool side apart, and they would have done the same thing to this Newcastle team. Most teams in today's Premier League would, as well as one or two in today's Championship. You think I'm joking but I'm not. You think I'm insane, you may have a point.
I was 17 playing LB for my high school team lol holy shit..yeah being a Newcastle fan all my life( the only one in my family by the way ) these wer happy yrs, I’m so glad Mike Ashley is finally gone!, my adult life as a fan has been pure misery. I’d like to be happy again., we’ll see what happens lol
When you watch games like this it reminds you how football has gone backwards. The introduction of women’s football has turned the great game soft imo. You can barely go to ground now without getting a yellow card. If you watch a lot of matches today they look like friendly games compared to this. Agree I’m a Newcastle fan this is the best match Iv ever seen live or on TV. First time I’ve watched the whole match again since it happened and it’s even better than I remembered

+Chris Walsh today, this legendary game was beaten in awesomeness!
Have to say Anfield really knows how to put on a show!
The greatest game of all time by far!
RIP Srnicek
Peter Brackley was one of the best.
McManaman .... such an underrated player! He was great! Wow I miss those days where a qtr of the national side was LFC!
he did play for Madrid and was a galactico, so how underrated was he?
"underrated player!" At Madrid he became the First English man to win two Champions leagues hows that underrated?
God bless you for the upload, mate! I never thought I'd ever see the whole game again!
Being a Newcastle fan, it pains me to see how poor a side we've become.

How you feeling now? Hahaha
I was in a pub in Co. Durham full of Sunderland supporters. The place went mad

Ginola was a good player and looked even better against opponents like McAteer.

Rob Duckerberg What and drop Gazza. Cracking idea that

Good stuff. It was versus Man Utd back then for the Title - and now today it is against Man City.
,
Look At the names of both sides!! Loaded!!
listened to this on the radio, Robbie fowler last striker who wore Liverpool shirt with pride.
Michael Owen? 😮
+The Great Hadoken Suarez?
@@thegreathadoken6808 Owen would be a candidate but he joined Man Utd unfortunately.
@@garoyoussoufian5631 Suarez is racist.
Mo Salah!

I’d say you are pretty much spot on.
that's some ref, i mean today that would have been 30 yellow cards and 10 red cards
Bit disappointing it isn't the original commentary. Does anyone have the full match with Andy Gray and Martin Tyler?
Why we’re all the teams not capitalised back then? Was that just like Setanta sports thing?
Newcastle had a decent side then
Spoiler: Collymore says "I Love you, Mum" at the end. Bless.
10 out of the 10 I was there live at the Frog and Toad in Gillingham Kent what a game of football.
i see now 2020 and is super the video
do you see the power of the long ball!!!!!
Newcastle had a good side until about the 2010's

We had a good team back then despite some weak links(sorry McAteer and Jamo).

Setanta had a shortage of capital letters in 1996!!
Almost all British teams
Love you mane my name Jamo in ball am know as junior mane love you
What a load of nonsense re Aspilla… it was Keegan who couldn’t win a title. Tino was a great player who improved the attack
ผมเป็นแฟนลิเวออร์พูลเพราะนัดนี้แหละครับ

What on earth does this have to do with women’s football? Numpty.
SUPER MAC'S: MCATEER & MCMANAMAN
