Boy when Owen got going he really banged them away. A lot of attacking talent. What striker would not want to play in front of McMannaman. Leonhardsen had quite a first season
Всем привет парни . Не ожидали русскоговорящего здесь увидеть)? Так вот, сезон 97-98 был первым сезоном в АПЛ, за которым я начал пристально следить. И все благодаря Майкл Оуэн. Феномен просто слов нет.
I think after this season, or at least once Houllier was in and had control, the team became much more pragmatic in its attack, and even more so once McMannaman left. Much less counter-attacking from deep through the midfield with quick releases forward; a lot more controlled possession at the back, but not through the middle, and instead, using long balls behind the defence to Owen in order to get the team up the pitch. This video shows how much Owen would have fitted into Roy Evans' teams. It makes me appreciate why Roy Evans' teams, despite ultimately underachieving, were loved so much. A lot easier to watch these teams finish 3rd-8th then the sides through 200s/2010s
LFC PL Scorers 97/98 Michael Owen 18 Steve McManaman 11 Robbie Fowler 9 Paul Ince 8 Oyvind Leonhardsen 6 Karl-Heinz Riedle 6 Jamie Redknapp 3 Patrik Berger 3 Jason McAteer 2 Michael Thomas 1 David Thompson 1
Another one of those later Roy Evans seasons where we looked really good at times ... but just had zero consistency, and were STILL dodgy as hell in defence. Ince and Leonardson were decent signings, and McManaman was in his prime, but Fowler was missing a lot with injuries and Collymore had been sold, so we lacked their power up front. Finishing 3rd meant we all hoped the following season would see more improvements ... how wrong we were.
Kenny and Roy could’ve worked together better than Roy and Houllier, but they should’ve given Roy until summer 99 and brought Kenny in to replace him if results didn’t improve.
For many of us outside UK,Owen is the reason for starting to support Liverpool.Just cant bring myself to hate Owen even after his United move.If that makes me less of a Pool fan,so be it.Just cant!!
There’s no reason to hate him. He wanted to come back to Liverpool. It was his loss, not ours. After all he did for LFC, people treat him as badly as Diouf. It’s ridiculous.
@@ianwalsh5569 same reason why Spurs hated Sol Campbell to death. Anyway, i can honestly tell you that had a United great joined Liverpool, fans wouldve hated him to death. Ince was the only exception, probably because he wasnt as high profile like owen.
No. Maybe Moores should've supported Evans properly instead of undermining his efforts to discipline the squad, and spend £8m on a player the manager didn't really want (Collymore). Things needed to change in the late 90s alright, but it was at boardroom level not the dugout. Houllier was not the answer and left a far worse team than he inherited. Houllier was basically brought in cos Evans finished 3rd this season. Houllier finished higher than 3rd once in 5 years with considerably less boardroom interference (although Parry nearly blocked the signing of McAllister).
@@MasterofSpiders I'll always appreciate what Evans did for the club after the disastrous Souness era but he was far too patient with some players. David James essentially cost us the league the season before and shoudl've been replaced straight away. The defence was consistantly woeful especially from set pieces and in Europe. Yes the board should've backed him when he wanted to sign Sheringham but his transfer record in general was poor. Scales, Babb, Kvarme, Dundee, Kennedy were all big money in their time. The fact that he never really went onto manage another big team after managing one of the biggest clubs in the world says a lot also
Would like 2 see the score on the bottom of the screen just to know who we played an what the score was. An table updates at the end of each month similar to premiership years. I remember certain games round this time but not all, would have been 10
They won't forfeit the season even under the worst case scenario. Not only would that mean that we won't get the title, but the individual records will be gone, teams coming up from the Championship would have wasted an entire season, and they can't select teams for the Champions League/Europa League next season. Also, an entire year from the players careers will be written off, all their statistics including goals scored, assists, clean sheets etc. erased.
I became a fan in 95, when blonde Robbie Fowler scored 2 goals at Old Trafford. But this season 97/98, I have ALL the posters of Owen, Ince, Macca etc in my room. Even Riedle. Haha.
Just for the record, they failed to show Owen's winner against Bolton Wanderers where he ran in behind the defence and finished superbly into the bottom corner.
It's a shame these vids do so poorly in comparsion view wise as this was a sensational team in itself that was a goalkeeper and another very good defender away from competing for years to come.
A couple of mistakes here. Fowler’s 2 goals at home to Leeds on Boxing Day are the wrong way round on here. Also Owen’s winner at home to Bolton is missing after Ince equalised.
Prime, pre-injury _Owen_ was a speed monster!
Mcmanam the MVP of this season. I never knew he was this good, woow
Mc manaman best player..
My pavorit
Owen was the reason why I loved England and Liverpool.
What a player was Mcmanaman ? He assists, scores, dribbles, running down the wing and celebrates 😘
Michael Owen was a class act purely football related
Boy when Owen got going he really banged them away. A lot of attacking talent. What striker would not want to play in front of McMannaman. Leonhardsen had quite a first season
That season’s home kit remains one of my favorites. A lot of us in college was wearing it then, baring the huge club logo. Great times

McManaman was really on fire that season, wasn't he?
Man did MacManaman and Owen score some bangers that season! Amazing to watch these!
Macca was my favourite player.
We need the prem back I've been on fifa just watching hendo lift the title on career mode it needs to happen soon

Greatest Team of all time! Liverpool FC
Goals flying in from all angles, chips and volleys from outside the box. Wish there was more of that today
The year I started supporting Liverpool. Thanks to Owen.

Brilliant I hope you can get goals from 91-92 98-99👍
So many great finishes!👍

Exactly bro he is the sole reason I became liverpool fan . When I saw him play 1998 world cup and became a pool fan till. So I can't hate him
YNWA.

Riedle, Berger, Fowler, Owen
Owen and McManaman carried Liverpool that season. Evans really should've gone that summer for Houllier
Øyvind Leonhardsen scored a lot of goals that season too. Didn't remember he was that good.

Shout for Ince never hear it. Solid as a rock. Owen was mindblowing.
What a player Fowler was
jeff lebowski And this wasn't even his best season.
You can just tell by the way Fowler celebrated with and never passed to Michael Owen he didnt like him. He knew before we all did!
Ballers❤️⚽️
He was 18 that season. Imagine today 18 year old being the best offensive player of the Premier League. What a guy.
11:57 what a jersey for the goalkeeper of another team i dont know which it is . Beautiful kit
i have seen ever
These videos make quarentine bearable!!!
Black shoes, normal haircuts, no tatoos, no outrageous goal celebrations, normal handshakes after the match
Good old times
Took awhile for owen to get going and then by god he was a goal scoring machine ! :o

3:08 Why isn't that on every 'best goals' compilation ever made?
If we'd had today's defence and goalkeeper we would of won a few more titles.I really hope they don't rob us of the title this season.YNWA

1996=1997英超。麥馬拿文。大熟大勇。在射門方面大有進步。遠射。怒射。乖巧有笠射。傳球方面成功率亦很高。經常送出致命傳送。有別於碧咸的七旋斬。他傳的地波係計篔賣隊友的速度。令科拿。奧云受益不少。

Sometimes i feel like Firmino modeled his game after McManaman, could just be coincidence.
Leonhardsen looks decent here... :(
Who likes old Liverpool better like if so and if you wanna see klopp in a movie 🎥
the new team has better defense, but the midfield with Barnes is untouchable.
I know which one 😂
