Newcastle headed to Anfield in April 1996 knowing that if they won their remaining games of the season then they would be crowned Premier League champions. Liverpool also had an outside shot of the title as they sat in 3rd behind Manchester United & Newcastle. In what as been described as the greatest Premier League match of all time, Liverpool ran out 4-3 winners thanks to an injury time goal from Stan Collymore.
These are thoughts of Kevin Keegan from before and after that game.

'We always give the other team credit'. What a refreshing change from the griping, excuses and mind-games we get all too often today. No wonder they went out there and gave everything for him.

The unluckiest team in UK football how the league didn't come to tyneside during that period was criminal really lady luck doesn't come up to the North East unfortunately

Eh,had they played more defensively it would’ve,how a team thought they’d get away with all out attacking football over 38 games and win the premier league is baffling !

Gary Neville snapped Keith Gillespie in half at Christmas with a late challenge. That was half of Ferdinand's supply gone. Little things like that went against Newcastle.

Hitomi Tanaka Nah,they were getting found out as the season went on,plus United has the experience of winning leagues,Newcastle didn’t,Asprilla can’t be blamed either,he was actually a success when you look at the stats that season !!

@@shanet5604 fixture pile up defientetly didn't suit us that year as well as the amount of times United got 3 points when they shouldn't have God knows how many 1-0s were in there schmiecel and Cantona won United the league that year lady luck just went against us in the end

The Englishman1966 Ah no way had luck to do with it ! They blew a 12 point lead ffs !! Grinding out 1-0 wins is part of the game, can’t put them all down to luck ! And as for fixture pile up ! They went out of both cups early ! United did the double !
