    Sarah, that's the same vegan mayo that I use. I always doctor it up tho by adding the juices of one small lemon and a lime, a spoon full of minced garlic and a generous amount of Trader Joe's 21 Season Blend...these flavors together *completely* transform the mayo!! I add enough mayo to keep the results from being to liquid'y, then store in an airtight container👌 You'd dig this👍

    Also, don't put fresh water, save the chickpea water and use that, it makes a huge difference.
    Traditionally hummus doesn't contain olive oil, just good quality tahini (then a bit of olive oil is used when you plate it)

    Alright, I have a few questions. Normally I would post these on the more shall we say extreme vegan channels, but I have yet to receive any answers. I do not mean to offend anyone with these questions, if they do, It is just that I have not found any articles covering these topics. For context I am a proud Alaskan Native and a meat eater. Always have and always will be. What are vegan views on subsistence? For example, my people are allowed to hunt seal and otter, while the Eskimo of northern Alaska are allowed to hunt whales. Do vegans approve of the destruction of cultural heritage and beliefs? And in a world where the major majority of people have turned vegan, what will they do with the stubborn few, like me, who will never give up meat? Again if this offends anyone I humbly apologize

    • @TheIvi26
      @TheIvi26 4 роки тому +3

      I’ve been vegan since I was 15 (21 now). I started out very militant and angry at the human race for all the death and destruction we cause. This tormented me for years and I would have nightmares about factory farms and animals being killed. At this point, I’m jaded and I’ve accepted that humans will never be 100% vegan and will eventually be the downfall of this earth. It’s very difficult for me to live with this realization and I do all I can to help the animals and environment but I know it will never be enough because our time is running out. I’m reminded of that daily. As far as your question, I think most cultures have a heavy emphasis on meat eating. I know mine did, but I didn’t see anything wrong with breaking free of my traditions despite being seen as the black sheep of the family. I’m not too traditional myself and I believe some traditions are best left in the past, such as the killing of animals. For example, it made no sense to me that some African cultures slaughter a goat for a celebration. Why end a life to celebrate another? I think the world would be a better place with less murder in general but I don’t look down on anyone who chooses to continue to hunt and eat meat. It saddens me more than anything because again, it’s a reminder of our world slowly dying. I know I probably sound crazy and it’s hard to find anyone who thinks this way. I actually think your culture is interesting and I learned in my biochemistry class that Alaskan Natives have a high level of cholesterol but yet don’t develop heart disease because of the omegas in whale meat. I hope that answers your question and I would love to hear other opinions. Take care ☺️

    • @trumangray5057
      @trumangray5057 4 роки тому

      TheIvi26 Thank you man, I really appreciate how you responded to my questions. And while I don’t think our world will end anytime soon, I do agree that the planet is worsening. And while I do not eat whales, the southeast Alaskan natives get our omega-3’s through salmon. My first solid food as a child was king salmon. I guess it’s just a matter of where you were raised that depends on the choice of diet. Or where you end up living, in your adult life.

    • @ellereadsalottt
      @ellereadsalottt 4 роки тому

      I’ve been vegan years and I’m not particularly against small scale, needed meat production like the example of the Eskimo and whales. I know they have a very harsh environment and little contact to the outside world so they have to eat to survive. But most people across the world are capable of at least reducing their meat eating. If it’s strongly within a culture that you have to eat certain meat for a festival or holiday day then I am not going to act as gate keeper and stand in anyone’s way, I don’t have that right. Personally no belief is more important to me than not eating animals or their products but I’m also aware of my privilege, in terms of access to vegan alternatives and cheap non-meat products, living in a country shifting towards plant based foods, and being a white person with no traditions which surround meat.

    • @trumangray5057
      @trumangray5057 4 роки тому

      @@ellereadsalottt I see a lot of vegans say that our country( I'm assuming you're talking about America) is shifting to plant based foods. I can possibly see that happening in the larger cities, but in low-income areas, most of the bread basket states, and Alaska and Hawaii, I just cannot see that changing for a good long while. What are your thoughts on the activist group Direct Action Everywhere? I saw a video of them disrupting a chicken farm and stopping production. They locked their heads onto the racks and one guy almost got decapitated because the conveyor belt started on its own again. To me that's just downright anarchy. They're disrupting hard working people just trying to make a living while nearly killing themselves in the process.
