  • Mike and I return to the old massive bottle dump along the river and dig a bunch of great vintage bottles out of the dump. Mike also uncovers a fantastic and unique find and I find my first crotal or sleigh bell while digging a nice mess o' bartles and some more uranium glass.

Those little milk bottles bring back some fond memories Mr Chigg.
I used to buy a half pint bottle of milk for 2 cents once in a while when I was in grade school at Vancleve, in Breathitt County Kentucky.
In those days the noon meal, or "dinner", only cost 10 cents but I rarely had 2 cents for the milk, much less a dime, so I usually carried my dinner in a 4 pound lard pail, along with a half pint whiskey bottle filled with home churned buttermilk with a corn cob stopper in the hip pocket of my bibb overalls.
Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work friend! You keep this old fossil happy! Thank you. You are our favorite!

Shame someone found your spot, but at least they didn't get everything, you still found some good treasures! Wow awesome finds! I remember the milkman picking up the milk bottles, and would leave the new filled ones in a small square box with a lid so the milk would stay cold. Ahh brings back memories for sure! I love old maple syrup bottles, some look so cool!. You didn't show the buckle cleaned up! It would be cool to see the best bottles found completely cleaned up! I wonder how many unique bottles you have found?

In the UK you can still get your milk delivered daily in glass bottles, there is also an upturn In organic dairy farms stating local deliveries again. The funny thing is we have birds overhere called a blue & great tit, that used to rip open the foil caps on the milk bottles to get to the cream at the top.
I grew up on a dairy farm, & each morning would be sent to collect a miniature churn of milk (around 4 pints) from my dad for breakfast, & as a treat turn the paddle in the header tank off so we got pure cream.

I was born in the late 1950's and remember well the glass bottle and we a few of the milkman from different dairies. They wore a (blue or black?) uniform with a biled hat. I was surprised by our main milkman once when we saw him at a store, without his hat. Hadn't known he was bald. They all drove little trucks with a walkout door opposite the drivers door. You could get your milk, cream and butter from them. I think some also had eggs. I think it was around 1970 that they started mostly using waxed cardboard cartons and around 1972, most people started just getting their milk from the store. I know in 1972 we still had a metal box on are front steps the would help keep the milk from freezing for awhile and we painted it to match the color of our house, but don't remember using it around that time.
