I love your videos. We sold the cows in 11’. Farmed like you guys. We are fairly large crop farmers now and I miss the days of milking cows. Our area looks just like yours north east/central PA. In our township which is like 225 square miles in the 90’s we had 8 dairies. The township my wife had too many too count. None left here. 2 left there. Keep going if you can.
I am in central MN and I don't know how farmers have gotten any hay harvested. It rains every couple of days. I know this is the kind of June that made me put up a hay silo in 1979. We just couldn't get weather conducive to baling in the mid and late 70's, and now it is back in 2024.
Without you farmers, we wouldn’t be alive. I kind of know what you are going through. I lived a farm for a few years. I miss it a lot. Bless you for what you do.
I was the one who ran the pull type chopper, but I was also the only one that would climb the outside of the silo's. So when something plugged up, I would have to go unplug it. Before cell phones were on every hip, so I would wait 15 minutes past when a wagon was due, then go to the silo. Bunker/ piles are the way to go! 👍👍
Big yay to Mother Mary G for helping out behind the scenes. Farm women can do all the jobs too. You must be getting close to the end of first cut, stay safe all the way to the end.
We always avoided raking hay for chopping. Enough dirt would mix in and greatly increase wear on knives. Als it meant more labor needed and more wear on equipment and increased fuel expense

I bought a mower conditioner. It does not have very many acres thur it for an older machine. I have to do a big repair first. If the last owner was like your brother Mason. , and listened to the mower , it would not need repaired!!! Please show this comment to Mason!
We have the same rake tractor. Ours is a 1650 diesel. The narrow front tires make it easier to get back into the windrows in the pie shaped pieces. Thanks for your videos. Can't believe the hills you guys are working on with the wagons, do you ever have one get away when your switching loads.?

Where is everybody, I'm first! Oh, it's Saturday morning, they're watching cartoons! I never got to watch TV much! Only when I had to chase the Man I worked for kids, out of the house to get the cows, then I'd watch the pink panther while I was waiting for the cows! night milking, Not a bad trade off! And then mostly it was watching the 11:00 news on a little tv in the kitchen while we were eating supper! And sometimes we did something stupid, you can when you're young, we'd watch the late, late, show until 2 a.m. then go to bed and get up at 5 and start over! we'd have to old JD B on the blower, so we would like to hear it bang away, so we'd pile it in to hear it bang away, then plug the pipe up, we thought it was fun, but Dad didn't, he was waiting for wagons
In high school, I would get in at 2am, be in the barn milking by 5:30 am, and repeat on Saturday night and Sunday morning! Nearly every weekend. Somehow I survived. 😮😂
Modern machinery takes a lot of the drudgery away from farming, but pushing hard will leave you tired at the end of the day. Your Dad has taught well the importance of daily maintenance!!!
Hay Rakes? Just curious if you all considered the wheel rakes for your farm? I just remember how much more you could get done with a wheel rake vs the roll bar type rake as in double the time if not more. Just one of those burning questions I have. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t remember rocks being too much of an issue, but we only had the wheel take for a few years and before we only used a roll bar rake. The wheel rakes seem to be better on the alfalfa leaves and fluff the hay up better while combining 2 rows at a time. Roll bar racks are needed and have their place on the farm and a wheel rake would be beneficial as well.
just stop using those animals if you actually care about them which is really illogical considering it is a farm that gains profit off of their utilisation and constant painful death just look at these cows, goats and chickens that you've got Do They All Want To Die Do They Want To Lose Their Babies look at them and tell me if they can't feel death and torment if they can't feel loss and betrayal if they can't feel separation and agony (it is a big oxymoron (WE DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS ) just turn your farm into an animal sanctuary if you actually love those majestic and gentle creatures if you actually understand the meaning of life it doesn't have to be what you were always taught to believe it needed to be trust me not all thoughts are a consistency river of right judgements or moral wisdom it's that time when we change those thoughts it's when we let those decisions evolve into benevolence from malevolence people are starting to wake and more and more people are actually starting to make the change and realise the connection because they realized the real value of these animals and it isn't in what they can offer us (IT'S NEVER IN WHAT THEY CAN OFFER US) AND IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO CHANGE this industry is the actual definition of malevolence and you KNOW IT. You look like a very kind person doesn't a kind person understand the value of life more than anyone else
Just turn it into a cathartic soul felt sanctuary where people could connect and heal with these beautiful and gentle souls that have experienced an enormous amount of pain and loss like a lot of other human beings trust me animal sanctuaries make way much more money than you think
I made one myself after years and generations of being a farmer and neither I nor my family ever felt more happy or alive because finally my morals our morals were aligned with what I always felt deeply and vehemently in my conquered heart and soul❤️🌹

We always give the load the road when we chop. Safer that way.

Wheel rakes are great in dry hay, but sweep a LOT of rocks which aren't good for the chopper knives.
