Actually it’s a liability issue I work at a Chevy dealership and have been there for 4 years sure their is some dishonest people but I have seen more independent shops scam people over more then my dealership has. There is always 2 sides to the story and most people who go to the dealership don’t care about the price it’s quality and assurance that the job is being done and done right the first time with warranty

I would be scared to take this to a check up where I live. In Europe if you see these trucks in a shop you know someone is having a party tonight somewhere and someone is waiting for parts for 2 weeks elsewhere, if they are lucky. Also, i don’t really think this truck would fit anywhere on the road here in the city. You could find parking spaces though for sure, but you would need an uber to home. Just a short 45 minute uber ride from your parking spot outside of town is always pleasant, gets you really relaxed when you get home.

Quality tires for the front end of that truck are going to cost 400 or 500 dollars, fixing the steering components and doing the oil change and new gaskets for 1000 on top of that is cheap. Most diesel shops are going to charge at least $100 per hour as a labor rate.
@@nickh7050 I checked the prices separately for the truck not including the tires because in Greece we have not a mass of trucks like US. But i saw that for oil changing someone need more or less 150$ , for the parts (pitman etc) more than 500, as you noticed per hour labor rate about 100$. For us here these prices is a robbery but as you said the cost of life in US is double or even triple than here. That's why i misunderstood the word "steal". I thought than even in US the cost was high enough. Apologize for the mistake!

The same work at a dealership would be in excess of $2,200 since labor is usually $119 hourly and all parts are dealer specified (%20 more expensive plus 15% markup plus a $15 base for "shop supplies") I charge $60 direct hourly, which means I don't follow book times. If book calls for 2.5 hours and I do the job in 1.5 hours, I charge 1.5 hours. Most mechanics in the states charge book time. If the job calls for 6 hours and mechanic does it in 2.5 hours, the customer is charged the full 6 hours. The European Union (and cpuntries thereabouts) has MANY consumer protections the United States doesn't have, so some services are not only cheaper there, warranty coverage is enforced. No guarantee has to be made here except what the parts possess.
Put a set of PPE idler and pitman arm braaces. Unfortunately the steering being hung single sheer, it will always do that, install braces and it’ll help a ton. GM Dealer diesel tech.
I have a 01 3500... idler and pitman arm are SUPER common. Do yourself a favor and get the Cognito kit with the idler support. Its a lot better than stock or moog.

If you look around your find some Dodgy ram's and things but after change in UK driving licence law's and other things it all come to a end, a lot of my friends still inport a lot of V8 trucks! Believe it or not can still be cheaper than buying a good second hand UK truck! I still have contacts if you are interested. I will just give you names of helping inport not after money!

Hey Jared, the leak on your oil pan is quite common. I've seen a number where it seemed that the bolts weren't torqued enough. Get the torque spec for your truck, climb under there with a torque wrench, and just tighten the bolts. Clean the area with degreaser, and see if that helped. If that didn't fix it, torque 2 pounds over spec. It's a lot cheaper to try that than to replace that gasket in the truck. The ones on the back corner of the driver's side are notorious for that. Don't know if the factory didn't torque enough, or if the extra heat from the oil cooler caused them to stretch or back out.
If you take the front tires and put them on the inside rear it will flatten the tread back out. That will allow you to leave them on the rear for a couple of tire rotations. Put a steering rack stablelizer on the front and it will take most of the stress off of the Pittman arm.... then it will last farther than 60 000 miles. Great show!
this weekend made a nice mess changing front and rear diff fluids. replacement shirt is definitely needed and was ordered. Went with the double XL for crack coverage, don't want to frighten the neighbors any more than me grunting under the vehicle in the driveway.
I love our 2020 6.7 Powerstroke. I usually change the oil 4000 miles. Change the fuel filters every 10,000 and run fuel additive to lubricate the high pressure pump. I spray the frame with fluid film. When it hits a 100,000 miles, it will get the weight reduction.
When I bought My last “new to me” vehicle, I drove it to work for 3 days, then loaded it up with the wife, 3 kids, stacked to the roof with stuff, and towed a pop-up camper 400 miles to go camping. Single handed, that is the questionable choice of which I am most proud.
When I got my last new to me, I took a vehicle that had had 350 miles put on it in three years and jumped in and drove 150 miles home, stopping only to fuel it and air up the tires. I did bring one spare with me because it turned out to have 27 year old tires on the rear.
I bought a 2008 GMC 3500 HD duramax diesel Allison trans dually ext cab 4X4 last September only 70,000 kilometres on it. Bought it with no safety and didn’t test drive it. It came with a Lance camper on it. Truck was in immaculate condition no rust. Older fellow bought it new and used it to go camping and fishing. Had the truck safetied when I got home. Mechanic couldn’t believe the excellent condition of the truck and it didn’t require anything to safety it other than a couple of broken flange bolts on the exhaust system. The truck had 6 brand new Michelin tires on it. The truck handles the 4000 lb camper easily and has plenty of power on the hills. I’m very happy with my purchase. $30,000 Canadian plus taxes.

Cool looking truck. My friend bought his dream truck last year a used 2500 diesel chevy. Within the first 2 months it needed an air and filter, no biggie. He promptly just ripped off the foam on the paper filter which is on their for the conditions it is primarily used in. Primary use being cold weather driving (why the foam is there) used for snow plowing business. I don't see good things in it's future. Unlike here where Jared likely will do good maintenance.
This is why I bought a 04 6.0 for 10,000. Then put 20,000 into it. It had 150,000 on it. We are now at 380,000. Going strong 30,000 paid for itself in the first year.
Because it’s a 6.0 is why you put head gaskets on it. I put 376,000 on a 05 lly Duramax and only changed the fluids. It’s mainly about the person behind the wheel and how they drive and maintain the truck. To many wrangler with Copenhagen rings pockets yeeyees thinking they got a race truck is the biggest problem with every diesel truck out on the market.
I am a diesel tech at Ford and I can't tell you how many fuel systems I have done bc ppl put DEF in the fuel tank 😂, that thing cristalices and you gotta replace every component of the fuel system 😂
Minor pitman movement, I would grease the zerks, alignment, and replace the tires. The shake is most likely the alignment being out from hitting curbs and bad balance.
@@chrism6952 My 2020 duramax has wax on the frame, not paint. It can rub off and after changing the rear spring hangers to solastic, my tools and hands and arms were covered in that crap. You would think they would dip the frames in some sort of paint on a $76k truck.
@@CGT80 And that stuff doesnt last very long. I used to work on them for years. The bottoms of bodies rarely have a full coat of paint, usually its just primer and some oversprayed color. It couldnt cost much to bedliner the entire bottom. GM will sell you a sprayed bedliner as a factory option for 400 last I checked. Id be willing to pay at least another grand to have the bottom done from the factory.
@@CGT80 While a lick of paint would surely help, spraying the underside with an oily concoction seems to be a good move for preventing rust. As far as I know, you redo it every winter. Among plenty others, I've seen Mustie1 treat all his vehicles with this goop and it does seem to work well. I think most people would expect there to be 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 paint underneath it though.😁
I not certain what type of front suspension those have but I believe they have lower control arm torsion bars and need the weight on the front suspension to check ball joints. I had a '95 Chevy 3/4 ton that just passed a complete safety check and 1 week/100 miles later had the lower ball joint separate on the highway when I loaned it to a friend to move a table. As a result the left front tire crushed into the left front fender causing the wheel to lock and truck to veer off the road and roll. It was a total write off, as was his new table. He was badly bruised but recovered ok. The mechanic had not checked the ball joints properly and thought you could just jack them up and check for slop. If the front IFS pulls the upper and lower ball joints apart when off the ground then the ball joints will appear rock solid if you check them with the truck off the ground, even if they are just on the verge of completely failing (separating).

Love all the IH truck in the background. Wish they still made 'em. Bodies suffered from severe rust issues but those were downsized trucks made by a truck manufacturer.
Just bought myself a Silverado 1500 brand new can't wait never had a big truck before. Glad there was only minor stuff wrong with your GMC. Diesels are expensive to repair and unless you intend to use it as you guys do a lot of people just think of the gas mileage and not the maintenance and upkeep that comes with owning a V8 diesel engine. Just the carbon build up alone in a lot of even small hatchback diesels is a bit insane. Friend of mine bought her car to me saying it was down on power. I pulled a couple of pipes off and it had the diameter of about a garden hose with the amount of carbon build up there was in some of those parts. So I told her that with that amount of carbon build up it means the inside of the engine is caked with it as well. That to repair a diesel is very expensive and it is probably worth trading it in. She took it to a diesel mechanic who had to do a very involved cleaning process on it and got it back to like 80% but as I told her it was too badly caked up. A full engine taredown was needed. This was a vw golf diesel. Had just shy of 60 000kms on it. So you may get the mileage but unless you maintain them really well they tend to be more expensive to repair then a regular petrol engine. It is a real issue with the common rail diesels and the modern big truck large capacity diesels. As you saw with your titan the environmental safeguards are for sure lessening the life of a lot of diesel engines that otherwise without those safeguards would last 300k miles or more, due to the choking of that soot into the engines to reduce emissions. It is a real shame because the diesel tech is amazing ATM but the safeguards are all holding them back. The quickest thing you can do to prevent this is by seeing your local diesel specialist and have them remove some of the safeguards that cause the carbonation. It is a bit in the grey area of modifications being legal due to the environmental impact but it will make your truck last 10x longer then it would with them
Look at the adjusting nut on the gear box. That year truck, they are bad about the adjusting nut backing off so there is a ton of slop in the box. Just run it back down until the nut touches again and then snug it up with some lock tite.

very nice truck! was a good buy. though i am surprised at how much rust was under that thing assuming it was a southern vehicle and being so new. here in michigan any vehicle is going to be that rusty within a year easily, but i assumed a more southern one would have less rust.

Fix front end problems, then rotate the front tires to the inside dual. You will get to finish wearing them out and have good tires on the steering, not to mention saving money.

Cool looking truck. My friend bought his dream truck last year a used 2500 diesel chevy. Within the first 2 months it needed an air and filter, no biggie. He promptly just ripped off the foam on the paper filter which is on their for the conditions it is primarily used in. Primary use being cold weather driving (why the foam is there) used for snow plowing business. I don't see good things in it's future. Unlike here where Jared likely will do good maintenance.

This is why I bought a 04 6.0 for 10,000. Then put 20,000 into it. It had 150,000 on it. We are now at 380,000. Going strong 30,000 paid for itself in the first year.
How many miles would you have gotten if you bought 3 of those trucks instead of just one?
@@getchasome6230 I think if you put the work and parts into it. As well as the maintenance you could get anywhere from 750 to 1mil on each.
Because it’s a 6.0 is why you put head gaskets on it. I put 376,000 on a 05 lly Duramax and only changed the fluids. It’s mainly about the person behind the wheel and how they drive and maintain the truck. To many wrangler with Copenhagen rings pockets yeeyees thinking they got a race truck is the biggest problem with every diesel truck out on the market.
I am a diesel tech at Ford and I can't tell you how many fuel systems I have done bc ppl put DEF in the fuel tank 😂, that thing cristalices and you gotta replace every component of the fuel system 😂
Minor pitman movement, I would grease the zerks, alignment, and replace the tires. The shake is most likely the alignment being out from hitting curbs and bad balance.

@@chrism6952 My 2020 duramax has wax on the frame, not paint. It can rub off and after changing the rear spring hangers to solastic, my tools and hands and arms were covered in that crap. You would think they would dip the frames in some sort of paint on a $76k truck.
@@CGT80 And that stuff doesnt last very long. I used to work on them for years. The bottoms of bodies rarely have a full coat of paint, usually its just primer and some oversprayed color. It couldnt cost much to bedliner the entire bottom. GM will sell you a sprayed bedliner as a factory option for 400 last I checked. Id be willing to pay at least another grand to have the bottom done from the factory.
@@CGT80 While a lick of paint would surely help, spraying the underside with an oily concoction seems to be a good move for preventing rust. As far as I know, you redo it every winter. Among plenty others, I've seen Mustie1 treat all his vehicles with this goop and it does seem to work well. I think most people would expect there to be 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 paint underneath it though.😁
I not certain what type of front suspension those have but I believe they have lower control arm torsion bars and need the weight on the front suspension to check ball joints.
I had a '95 Chevy 3/4 ton that just passed a complete safety check and 1 week/100 miles later had the lower ball joint separate on the highway when I loaned it to a friend to move a table. As a result the left front tire crushed into the left front fender causing the wheel to lock and truck to veer off the road and roll. It was a total write off, as was his new table. He was badly bruised but recovered ok. The mechanic had not checked the ball joints properly and thought you could just jack them up and check for slop.
If the front IFS pulls the upper and lower ball joints apart when off the ground then the ball joints will appear rock solid if you check them with the truck off the ground, even if they are just on the verge of completely failing (separating).
Need more of Jared’s friend on the channel. I love what you and Tavarish do with the exotics, but this dude seems a lot more relatable to what most of us are working on.

Just bought myself a Silverado 1500 brand new can't wait never had a big truck before. Glad there was only minor stuff wrong with your GMC. Diesels are expensive to repair and unless you intend to use it as you guys do a lot of people just think of the gas mileage and not the maintenance and upkeep that comes with owning a V8 diesel engine. Just the carbon build up alone in a lot of even small hatchback diesels is a bit insane. Friend of mine bought her car to me saying it was down on power.
I pulled a couple of pipes off and it had the diameter of about a garden hose with the amount of carbon build up there was in some of those parts.
So I told her that with that amount of carbon build up it means the inside of the engine is caked with it as well. That to repair a diesel is very expensive and it is probably worth trading it in.
She took it to a diesel mechanic who had to do a very involved cleaning process on it and got it back to like 80% but as I told her it was too badly caked up. A full engine taredown was needed. This was a vw golf diesel. Had just shy of 60 000kms on it. So you may get the mileage but unless you maintain them really well they tend to be more expensive to repair then a regular petrol engine.
It is a real issue with the common rail diesels and the modern big truck large capacity diesels. As you saw with your titan the environmental safeguards are for sure lessening the life of a lot of diesel engines that otherwise without those safeguards would last 300k miles or more, due to the choking of that soot into the engines to reduce emissions. It is a real shame because the diesel tech is amazing ATM but the safeguards are all holding them back.
The quickest thing you can do to prevent this is by seeing your local diesel specialist and have them remove some of the safeguards that cause the carbonation. It is a bit in the grey area of modifications being legal due to the environmental impact but it will make your truck last 10x longer then it would with them
Randy seems like a great guy with a great sense of humour.
Look at the adjusting nut on the gear box. That year truck, they are bad about the adjusting nut backing off so there is a ton of slop in the box. Just run it back down until the nut touches again and then snug it up with some lock tite.

very nice truck! was a good buy. though i am surprised at how much rust was under that thing assuming it was a southern vehicle and being so new. here in michigan any vehicle is going to be that rusty within a year easily, but i assumed a more southern one would have less rust.
Lift off the lead spring on the front. Not the frame. You can also use the transmission cross member for the front arms.

Fix front end problems, then rotate the front tires to the inside dual. You will get to finish wearing them out and have good tires on the steering, not to mention saving money.

The balance point on my 2008 Chevy dually is the seam between the doors. The dual wheels and big rear end are quite heavy.
