not bad! the motor seems fine at least. This will be an actual "Everyday" person's project. should be fun to see
agree
Jared is so wholesome, we must protect him at all costs.
Stalker much?
I love how there is a community of people equally bothered by Dougs shirt habits
“Don’t bother them and they’ll leave you alone”

Ah, you watched the video! 😄
That type of wasps are real assholes! More so than the yellow ones....
KILL IT WITH FIRE! You might end up killing the truck with fire too. Two for one!
I'm starting to see how jared amassed his collection of cars and car parts.
Give it to Jared, he'll take anything! 😂

"How does Doug do this?"
LMAOO
He’s got quite a few _quirks and features_
In the salt mines of the midwest that truck in running condition with those miles is worth probably $7-8k. Fix it and flip it. Always good to have shop money!
All day long
Lol the salt mines wtf
$7-$8k was a couple of years ago.
I see people asking $10k+ now that used cars are scarce.
My 2004 Z71 Silverado with almost 400k miles on it books out at $4000 +. So yeah, easily $7-8k.
@@mtbwolftrail800 ........... hes refering to the roads having shit tons of salt on the roads and hwys.....
Send the transmission and transfer case to Richard at Precision Transmissions.
They don’t do carry outs. Require the vehicle at their shop so the can check torque converter spacing.
I get the feeling that hanging out with Derek has opened a fellur's mind to a whole new mass of questionable choices.
Bring the lightnin'
@@n.m.s7552 Thunder 😉
I feel like Derek would fix the transmission in a field and drive it 700 miles without checking the brakes.
6:57 unfortunately, that’s analog OnStar which was was deactivated in 2008 when they transitioned to 5th generation digital hardware; so those buttons do absolutely nothing now.
I’ll just make noise and talk to myself!
@@TheQuestionableGarage If you agree to a 1 year term, GM will replace the analog system with the new system, for free [ or at least up here in Canada ].
@@paullevy561 not really necessary because the Denali HD has the modern up to date 9th/10th generation hardware which has RemoteLink app support, which means that Jared can unlock, lock, and remote start his truck anywhere in the world that has cell phone service.
That car needs some purging.
"Bring the flamer. The heavy flamer"
I discovered recently that sometimes a
"Free" vehicle is too expensive.
Yes it can be too expensive sometimes. Depends on vehicle type, condition, one's capabilities & a few tens of other factors that show up as one goes along.
I sold a cheap 2005 Prius with 320K miles for $300. It ran, but needed new battery pack, ABS computer, HID headlight. Any one of these was expensive, but altogether it made it crazy expensive to keep. I would stay away from free or ultra cheap vehicles.
My dad says that things costs too much even when if they’re free sometimes.
But if you can get a free car fix it on UA-cam you get UA-cam money and a free car.
@@musclesmouse the battery packs are rebildable, see hoovie's garage episode. Also, the other 2 parts can be had a junkyard.
@@blakea216 I rebuilt them. They last about 6 months and another cell would die. I did for 3x then gave up. You really need to put out for new pack to get 10 more years. The abs and hid meant it was not worth fixing anymore. Junk yard had to match abs. You really oversimplifying the problems.
Hoovie did not show after the fix.
This is giving me strong memories of my family's 2001 Silverado, broken fuel gauge, Wrecked transfer case. I drove it from Colorado to the Florida keys without a muffler, ~memories~ Excited to see what happens with i!
Ryan Mayer did a Tahoe on his channel and gave it away. It was pretty nice. First time I saw one lifted.
We need a vido series of Jared towing things around and being Jared.
0:06 remember to always make questionable choices. 😆😆
Jared, I know I probably speak for a lot of people when I say I'm super excited for the GMT800 content. I bought my 01 Yukon XL SLT back in march with 209k miles. Bought it at a reputable Ford dealer in Ohio for 1899 out the door(shrewd negotiation), plus I've bought cars from them before. It now has just under 215k miles and the only thing I've had to do was some rear shocks and upgraded HD springs, since it has the self leveling Nivomat shocks that are stupid expensive. Check engine light has not been on one time, and yes it does work. Front and rear AC works perfect. But since I haven't had to do actual mechanical work, I've done some upgrades. First I put an 03 to 06 center console in it, and I'm working on doing the center stack the same way. Also going to do the OEM electrical fan drop in mod to get rid of the mechanical fan. Knock on wood but I haven't had a single common problem on this except one broken exhaust manifold bolt which caused a leak but I don't care, and I'm still getting 24mpg combined. Out of the 70 cars I've owned and fixed and sold, this is probably my favorite next to my 1980 Z28
Derek won't be too impressed with that Fram oil filter in there.
May even need a three pound Tanya Harding to remove it..
Makes me laugh when people insult Fram still lmfao goes to show people will believe whatever their told😂
@@mercury0214 it's "they're"... And as someone that has cut many filters apart (including Fram), I'd never use them. The cardboard end caps are basically hot glued to the filter media and regularly fall apart, allowing dirty oil to bypass the filter.
@@mercury0214 Cut one of those 15k mile "Tough Guard" filters open after 3-4k miles, then do the same with a standard Purolator or Wix and you'll understand that Fram still deserves a side eye. They'll do in a pinch, but my biggest beef is the marketing saying the "Extra Guard" can go 10K miles and the "Tough Guard" can go 15k. while continuing to offer even reasonable protection given their price.
@@Mr-G131 many channels have rigorously tested the fram filters and they fell smack in the middle and that hot glue thing is total horse crap lol all filters do that
This project will 100 percent help me out as im rebuilding my uncles 2wd 99 sierra in my garage at the moment from a deer hit about a year ago. I have to dig a bit deeper with the body work than you do but im turing the bell on for this project.
Boy when you're high you really notice how much Jared says "but uhh"
I can't not notice it now :(
Picked up a $400 K2500 which needed a new transfer case and did a partial rebuild of the 4L80E transmission and the truck runs like a dream! These are great trucks!
Appropriately wearing the vice grip garage shirt for the not running car
I’d like to see you buy cheap cars do a bit of work to them and flip them for a profit. Wheeler dealers style.
I just bought a 1996 Tahoe with 243, 000 miles, a new transmission, paint, tires and interior pretty good shape. Thus far I’ve replaced the rotors, front hubs and rear drums because of a really bad shake from warped rotors, front axle actuator and fuse. Changed all the fluids. The truck is hot and the AC takes about 20 minutes to really cool down. So I tinted all the windows and it’s made a huge difference. I really am enjoying the truck it’s my first 4x4 and compared to my Crossfire it rides like a Caddy…lol. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your Tahoe.
Awesome sponsor introduction 👍👍. Really like the enthusiasm of Jared
I like the way that this video opened; jared is truly outstanding in his field
There’s no rust!? Even if it needs a lot of work to get it running, I could find at least 10 people in New England who would LOVE this!
Or in the Midwest!
I love normal builds like this. Race cars and exotic cars are cool but just a good old Tahoe repair video is my favorite kind
Being a GM Product. I'd say the 4L60 exploded
Oops, all neutrals!
Congratulations! Your 4L60E just received a free upgrade to a 6NXD!
We had a 2004 Suburban Z71. Great road trip truck. We sold it at about 240K miles. The new owner is still getting a ton of use out of it. I wish my current car had as comfortable of seats.
If anyone can bring it back to life. Jared Is The Man for the job! I have 100% confidence in his abilities and I too hate detailing.
Who thinks "Critters and funk" makes a wicked name for a band?
BTW the 4wd system (buttons left of the cluster) on these requires the tires to match or will go into a limp mode to save the transfer case where it feels like the brakes are being applied while pressing the throttle...
Yaaa… more love to Derek VVG🤗. I really hope You guys Will work together more. 🤗. Love from 🇸🇪
i've got an 05 Yukon and i can honestly say it is one of the nicest riding vehicles you can get. the motors are super robust but the transmissions are the issue as you found out. fix that up and give it a good detail and that will make someone a happy owner for years to come
01-02 Silverado HD hood will fit that. Also they updated the bumper valance in 03 to look more off roadish and added body colored grilles.
the first vehicle i ever drove was a 2001 taho and i miss driving it but after 400,000 miles it was time to replace it. was a sad day but i would love to find one like this and fix it. I'm glad you're going to bring it back to life its got a lot more left to give
Check those brake lines. They like to rust and pop.
The fuel pump housing likes to rust also and cause one of the many EVAP codes that typically come up.
The AWESOME thing about Free?
Generally you are always ahead of the dollar curve, You are always pleased with the result and have the warm n fuzzy feeling when it runs well and looks good.
My Wife's favourite saying as she lays claim to my Toys....
For me? Awwww you shouldn't have...
And its not even Prezzie week, Thanks Hun!
Nothing a 25-hour detail wont spruce up! As you said, the camera really picked up the paint, and for as dirty as it is, that metallic green really pops! I like it
Love that he’s wearing a vice grip garage shirt
You gotta love a GMT800! Should be cheap and easy to bring it back to life and they're such good trucks.
Haha Wrench every day slowly turning into Vice grip :)
I haven't watched enough to know where in GA, but there's a pretty nice shop in Hampton, SC, for sale.
*where you live in GA
I had this same Tahoe but an 01' loved it. I called it the tank. I took it out after a 2 foot blizzard on NE PA. I miss it. 😢
Change the heater hoses when doing the water pump. The quick connection hoses are bad at breaking at the firewall
A beautiful Tahoe 4x4 with 3rd row and .... well ALL options. Please do a small lift and off road tires.
that is a great gift. looks like fully loaded and low miles. once reconditioned it should fetch more than you put in. definitely would use 05+ Tahoe front brake set up. also follow lsxmatt on his Tahoe rebuild. things to replace soon: gauge cluster, ac blower fan/harness and resistor; radiator and hoses, ps pump. transmission is prolly on last leg...ask me how I know...just did the same thing to 2005 Silverado Z71 w/ 228k miles.
Hi Jared nice vehicle and video 📹 and workmanship to bad it's broken !!!
I've got an 05 suburban with the same drive train, 298k miles. It's got at least that many more left in it!
It’s a 4L60E variant it’ll need replaced they all do. I’ve broke several
I've made a bunch of money rebuilding 4L60Es since they put them in everything.
@@MrClarkisgod a 4L60e, a heavy foot and a little extra cash to repair em is a dangerous combo
Love the vice grip garage mention! You're both amazing content creators. Would love to see a Jared/Derek collab
Wish you did more videos really enjoy them...and yes let's see more videos of ypu fixing it because that's what most of us have and need to fix
It was projects like this that got me interested in Tavarish in the first place. Super happy to see some on Wrench Every Day.
Had this exact spec 01 Tahoe in black... only difference was ours didn't have fender flares, but was a heavy duty spec... great truck but only got 15 might on a good day
It'd be something to see Richard from Precision Transmission do a tear down on the differential and transfer case or even maybe the transmission if it's an issue as his cores off of this Tahoe.
Their good rigs. I have a 2003 with the same amount of mileage. I’ve maintained mine very well and very dependable.
Awesome free truck..... Hey I know you are up in Gville but over here in Winder there are some shop spaces still available I believe. Hey and if you needed some extra hands I can help. Lol. Good luck Matt.
Its honest good work. Especially, out on the lawn in full sun. Best wishes.
I'm with the people saying fix and clean this Tahoe up and sell it! It'll make for a few glorious episodes, and if the right buyer comes along once it's up and running right, that'll be a good boost to the shop budget. We need to find Jared a new Site B!
Jared is doing a real wrench everyday project and I love it, I've done so many of these transmissions and t cases
The jack is under the tray in that top compartment you opened 🤘🏻
I believe that has an "LQ" motor, technically. LS motors are aluminum, and GM trucks received the iron (heavier) versions of the motors.
Still an LS, aka GM Small Block Gen 3, they all fit LS parts
Its different enough, the SUV versions being MUCH heavier.
I love the fact that when I had my 01 2500HD you guys dropped that engine into Johnny Rev so I got some pointers for mods and now that I just got an 03 Escalade which is same engine 6.0l AWD I’m looking forward to what you’re going to do to it as it’s basically the same thing as my Escalade. Also can I have the 3rd row seat? Lol
I have NEVER seen a Tahoe of that vintage that clean underneath! It probably still has the factory original brake lines!
1: Fix it!
2: Clean it!
3: Take it to Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, Michigan, ect!
4:???
5: Sell it!
6: Profit!
You deserve a top notch workshop mate .good luck
I love it! Seems like everything I have had to fix on my 01 bourbon. Texas speed low lift cam and heads rebuilt, you're good
Love the new sponsor 👍🏼 actually so pleased for you guys. Well deserved. Great videos keep up the good work. Thanks
Love this build. Give me all the GM truck content!!!
More of this! Wrench every way into a new shop.
I agree with the free vehicles. Just had one dropped off in my yard yesterday and the previous owner has been through most of it.
Awesome freebie! That it started with out a boost at least tells you the wiring has no shorts to ground when off and the battery is exceptional- not to mention that the motor starting that easily would seem to indicate few major engine probs. Awesome, dude- MORE! FR
PS; Your crack about ammunition and Texans does hit home here- but you could be slighting Freddie's Stand your ground, Florida neighbors! fr
I love those GMT 800 Tahoe's. Probably my favorite Tahoe body style and the early LS engines are super good.
If a guy got a free Tahoe in that condition, he might want to check the sparkalators and the lightning wires too…
Nice shirt Jared! 👏👏👏
Even with all of the issue you already know about plus the gremlins that will appear it seems to be a nice going to town rig !!!
Man.. I wish I had your skills.. I have a 2000 expedition that I put away 3 years ago.. Id love to bring it back and then jack it up on 33s
Running Tahoe is money. Great free pick up.
You guys are the best car team ever!
I'd love to see this turn into a quarter mile/half mile drag car! Just all the power, big brakes, and an entirely sleeper look (keeping the aircon!)
@Stapleton42_ is the man for big body fullsize SUV drag race silliness.
@@tsp159 thanks for the suggestion!
Dude you scored. Water pump belt flushed radiator change the oil the transfer case is a dime a dozen in a wrecking yard. Transmission same thing. You go $800 in parts and your little bit of your time and you got a running Tahoe
so i think you should fix it up and drop a big ole supercharger on that puppy!!!!
Man, my parents had one of these(2002 suburban). 220,000 miles and it still had the original coolant, diff fluid, transmission fluid, and spark plugs.
I think the only things that ever went wrong is the brake lines rusting out and a CV joint went bad.
Then all the bushes you find flogged out and perished from sitting and the ones that break when you start trying to pull things apart. But at the cost it doesn’t really matter. Get it going drag it to Florida and get Tavarishs detailed to clean it.
*This is just like my 05 escalade! i miss that truck SO much Sounds like the transfer case is busted. sounds like the chain is just rolling around in there loose. good luck finding a replacement. if i pay to fix it so you still get the content, would you sell it? i have an ozone generator that will take care of the smells and the mold too. even if that didn't do it i also have a McCollough steam cleaner that will deep clean everything*
Jared you are the Morgan Freeman of the automotive culture!! Soothing yet informative. Well done!!
do a cateye front end conversion and put a 2014 silverado rear bumper on it dump it and make it a roudy shop truck that tows (small loads) and looks cool
I had a 2005 Yukon and it was the best vehicle I’ve ever owned! I am glad you’re saving this Tahoe!
It would make a nice daily driver. The parts are pretty cheap and not too hard to work on. Awesome freebie 😀😀
honestly not a bad nick, nothing outrageous needs doing. you could just repair it or get some entry level offroad parts that should bolt right in.
Seems decent. I'd prolly check the engine too, top end/bottom and maybe even an inspection to the cylinders using those snake camera thingies. Mostly because the chassis is mint, but also because free.
Going to be a nice project to watch.
i have a 2002 Tahoe while your doing brakes on it change out all the hard brake line Chevy put in steel lines and they rust out really bad you can order new set of pre bent stainless lines for around 80 to 100 dollars ,plus the circuit board on the ABS controller will get loose connections on it and since chevy put it under the truck under the drive seat its a pain in butt to get too might as well look at that to while your there
Very excited to see this series get started as I have just recently purchased a Tahoe myself
You're not alone, Jared. Most of us watching are hoarders too.
I only have 9 cars and 2 fully work. Last year I had 11 and 1 worked. I’m not a hoarder
I thought it was gonna be the ol brake clean flame thrower on those red wasps, theyll get ya when u least expect it too
That’s an early pre can bus LT trim level Tahoe that’s as nice as it came in 01 or 02 when that was built
Looks like a fun project, can’t wait
The interior brings back fond memories of the interior of the Chevrolet Suburban from 2005 that I had.
That's easyyyyy! Transfer case is like 1hr tops to change, front differential can be done on the ground but it's easy as well as the water pump, just don't forget which bolts go into the water jackets; ( The dodge 4.7, 5.9, and similar from early 2000 is the easiest)
Well, I’ll be Dipped! Jared got a fellers favorite ride! That Tahoe is perfect!
I’m excited to watch the progress! Y’all gonna sell it and apply the proceeds to the Georgia shop?
