I completely agree. Lol. I never got any respect from other Jeepers until I went off road. Once they saw the Commander is nearly as capable as the Wrangler..but has more room for other gear and people....they were all smiles and respect.
I finally decided to replace my 5.7 hemi overland commander after driving it for 15 years. Loved it and was sad to see it go, kinda wish I kept it, but it was just getting so hard to find parts. I agree with pretty much everything you say in this video, really enjoyed it!
Damn Rick, that truck sounds like it did you and the fam great for 15 years…. I’d be sad to see it go too. Hopefully you have great luck with whatever comes next:)
Commander owner here in the UK, love how yours is looking. Totally agree with the parts thing, there’s barely anything aftermarket available here, I have to ship from the USA and pay double on already expensive parts, but as you said in your other video, I love that nobody else has one.
That’s awesome James and thank you for the compliment brother. It’s expensive to ship here I can’t imagine shipping over to the UK! Little by little take your time building it up.
We are the redheaded stepchild of Jeep. I have the 4.7 in my Commander and I'm going to drive this thing to the wheels fall off, even the 4.7 sucks on gas but I love it.
Your absolutely right about being the stepchild haha. I plan on keeping mine as long as I can too! I told my wife if someone offered me crazy money for it I wouldn’t take it…. Yea that was a little argument. Haha
Lol. Great video. So far here is my list. 1. I hate how hard it is to remove the valve covers. 2. Wiring anything through the hatch. 3. Transmission shift points. 4. How heavy it is. 5. The clevis bolt.
07 commander 5.7 limited 187k miles. Getting 13 mpg because i have a heavy foot but having a small 20 gallon tank means lots of stops at the pump. Parts arent hard to find since it shares the grand cherokee platform but they are expensive. Also something important: if one tire goes bad, you have to replace all 4 tires because they have to be equal size all the time. If you replace one tire or front tires and leave the rear tires alone that have less tread, you will burn out and destroy the clutches in your transfer case which will cost $3,000 parts and labor to do.
Hey Gabriel thanks for your post! And that’s a very good tip about the tired that I haven’t experienced yet with mine. Thanks! And I laugh because you get 13 mpg with a heavy foot and I get 14mpg and I drive like a 90 year old:)
Your welcome! Yeah it’s running really good at the moment. Parts are a bit tough sometimes… I discovered a few months ago that there are only 45 commanders in New Zealand 🇳🇿
I have an 06 with 120,000 right now (bought it with 114,000). Love it soo much! Anyone below 6' fits without issues. I just wish I sat higher and the steering wheel wouldn't be only an inch from my legs (both of which are at their max height)..
Totally agree with how hard it is to find parts. I really dislike aluminum heads too. I never overheated my Jeep, but my head was warped and my gasket was failing. My Jeep was at the dealership for 12 weeks. Thankfully, I do have a lifetime power train warranty, so after my $100 deductible, I had no other costs. I have over 200,000 miles on it and it was purchased new with only the miles I put on it test driving it. It does very well in snow, heavy rains with ponding water and in muddy off-road conditions, but no newer Jeep will ever out “off road” my original Jeep…a 1978 AMC Jeep grand wagoneer limited. Lock that beauty in 4 low, and it could rival a tank…speaking of tank, I did retrofit a second 30 gallon auxiliary tank because that 360 V-8 with a 4 barrel carb, didn’t sip anything. I always carried plenty of extra gas cans when I knew gas stations were scarce.
I could swear that the front seat was not moved back , I'm 6'2" and iv got room in the passenger side , the 2nd and third row I agree. As far as the Chrome's concerned I think it kind of differentiates a fully loaded model from the others, I like most of the chrome, but what I don't like is that the chrome is crap, my chrome rims started to peel and the inside chrome trim has started to wear off in some spots.. as for the hemi I swear I'm getting 8 miles to the gallon.. it got a lot worse after I added a superlift
Christopher thanks for your post brother. Yes I agree on all. So when I got my Commander it didn’t have chrome rims so I don’t know about the peeling but I can imagine after a few years… Inside chrome hasn’t for me yet though. And damn bro 8mpg??? Haha. Where are you? Downtown LA? Lol
@@candlesstaylit3964That’s what i got. I prefer V6 like my previous vehicle Suzuki Grand Vitara & it’s great on gas. I wish it’s good on gas, I fill it once every week.
I’d just like to point out that I’m 6foot 2 and I fit perfectly in my jeep commander, and the seats can move back 😮 And the jeep commander is honestly a great car! I just wish it had more power
I hear you brother. I just think in the front passenger the plastic sticks out a bit and unless you push the seats all the way back the knees touch. If that happens then the poor souls in the back seat have zero room. More power is always good my friend. Thanks for your post!
I had a 2006 4x4 with the hemi. It had some electrical gremlins so I got rid of it! 🙁 I just totaled my 14 Grand Cherokee and really wanting to find another Commander!
Heavy vehicle that was better than my cherokee in snow and glare ice. Downside was there was no cargo space when hauling seven. Poor mans G wagon but so reliable. Still have it.
I considered bidding for a 2006 Limited V8 at auction, and then I saw this vid about replacement parts....I hope it had a longer run so parts are more readily available. Gonna settle for an 09 Toyota Sequoia
Haha that’s awesome! The on going joke with our kids is when they see a nice car they say “wow that is nice! But the Commander is better, Dad”. Haha. I’ve trained them well:)
that is such unfair comment on the leg room in front. I have a 2006 Commander and the front seat legroom is not that bad, You're 5'10" and right up against it, and I'm 6'2" and have no issues, however once in the back and far back I do agree it
Today, chrome is passé, but so are a lot of automotive features associated with the first decade of this century. I still adore an 80s or 90s Wagoneer when I see one; and I somehow manage to appreciate its faux woodgrain because it was a "thing" back in the day. To me, the same goes for the Commander: It will always look terrific, especially in top-of-the-line trim.
Thanks for the honest video. Was contemplating a Commander vs the 2nd gen Liberty but went with the liberty. The legroom issue would be a dealbreaker for me. Definitely dont have that problem with that on my liberty lol Sad they messed that up so badly to cram in the 3rd row. Think the vehicle would have been way better received if they had just kept it a 2 row. The hemis are super underrated and overall this vehicle is super impressive.
Thanks for your post brother. I hope the liberty has worked out for you. I’ve seen some pretty built up liberty that just look mean. I don’t have the problem with the legroom anymore because I took the second and third row out and made a platform to sleep on which is working great!
I like my 06 Jeep Commander 4.7L v8 though I wish it was better on gas but overall I like it. Great car camping for me since I’m 4’10 and I can stretch out my body to sleep. So yeah the I side width is 4’10. I don’t like the indoor door handle it can get crushed in which it did when I was loading my stuff for the move. Haven’t replaced it yet. I don’t have the drill to remove the old screw thing to remove the old handle.
Okay, #5 my driver seat fits me fine & no one sitting behind me complains about legroom (2 of my 3 6’+ brothers have ridden in my Commander). Removed the 3rd row seat #4 - you have a lot more chrome than I do. I think my grill is most of the chrome on mine. Now, mine was virtually all white and that was too much - bumpers, fender flairs, and rails are blue #3 - absolutely true #2 - I have the 4.7L V-8 so I probably do better on mileage than you. 17.5 around town, 20-ish on long trips #1 - true, and never get ducked, either!
As a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi owner, I can relate! Haha, you forgot to add "Maintenence." I love Jeep, but they're definitely money fire pits. 😢
New owner of a 2008 Limited Jeep Commander . Hesitated on pulling the trigger but I couldn't resist. New to the Jeep community and I'm still findng out about all the options it has every day. Its like Christmas each time I get into it. Wasn't interested in the Jeep ,wanted a truck, but after 3 months of debating and the few Perks offerd by the seller, I dove in. Was curious if , yours has the Flex fuel option as mine does and is it offered on other jeep models. Gas is an issue but I'm not sure how much ,considering I'm always looking at the gas usage . About 14 to 15 mpg average . Over all each day I fall more and more in love with it. Its roughly between Very Good to Great condition so I think made a good choice. Thanks for putting your video out there.
Thanks Dude! I thought that 4.7 was the only one that came with the flex fuel. Mine didn’t come with it.. I’m pretty sure none of the 5.7 didn’t. So what’s going to be the first thing you do to it??
I have a Jeep Commander the very first week I bought it I took about 2 ft of Mudd with regular street tires I have never got a duck they keep saying it's not a regular Jeep because it has three rows seating my Jeep Commander can go where everybody else can go the Jeep Cherokee is a little bit shorter it can go wherever I wanted to go mine's a six-cylinder it doesn't get great gas mileage either
Thank you so damn much everybody laughs at me whenever I say I don’t like things about it. I have a V-6 and it’s terrible and won’t even go and I had a G wagon before that. But due to you know the way the world is now I can’t afford it anymore but anyway I like my jeep but I feel like I’m in a loaner car perpetually. Thanks James
Haha thanks for your post James! I can see how going from a G-wagon to a Commander is like driving a loaner now. My buddy at work drives a G-wagon and that thing is solid and beautiful
Hello from France ! Cool vidéo ! I’m the happy owner for 8 years now of a ’08 black Commander Overland with the diesel V6 3.0 CRD (Mercedes) engine, so I’m a (little) less concern for the mpg. If the Commander is rare in the US, I let you imagjne in Europe, but I think it’s cool to not have the car of all my neighbours. It’s my daily driver but I also want to use it for overlanding, so I buy and install off road accesories but yes, it’s hard and pricey to get ! Love your videos and hope you’ll do more. Sorry for my poor american and Happy New Year in little advance !
Galloy, thank you for your post and your support! No need to apologize for your English, it’s better then mine! Haha. Sounds like your pretty happy with your commander and that is awesome!
haha what's funny is I live in a cookie cutter neighborhood and all the driveways are super small! except for mine because of where they built the house. I got lucky with that lol
1:57 Holy shit 😳 That 5’10”?! I’d nix the 3rd row and build custom brackets to relocate the 1st and 2nd. On looks alone, that’s a bad ass Jeep. And that’s coming from a snooty Wrangler owner 😂. I’ve always kinda liked the body lines of the Commanders. 👋 ✌️
@@OJCoz I'm hoping that Jeep goes for a more streamlined proper XJ style Cherokee with the next version of the Cherokee, in response to the bronco sport... The commander looks pretty nice, there's one in my area for sale for 4500, 190k miles. I have an XJ now with about 250k miles on it. Thinking about checking out the commander, but sounds like I get a little better mileage with the XJ, besides that looks like the commander would suit my needs really well.
A comeback of the XJ would be amazing as long as they kept the solid front axel. That would be great. Commander is great. I’m trying to keep the miles of it driving the GX. Still love driving her though. But just like XJ’s, they run hot quick
What I don't like in my Commander is that it too small inside to use it as a good sleeper. Crawling in and out is too challenging for me since I am not the Master of Yoga and not in my 20's any more. So I bought a truck with a canopy, build a sleeper in the bed, so that's my overlanding rig now. Commander is for sale.
I hear you Alex. I think it’s pretty small too inside compared to how big it is overall. I’m glad your still going out regardless on what takes you out there:)
Watched this video again. Good stuff. Got a few laughs at the chrome and gas stops. What'd your buddy think about the shout out? The tall dude, I think you said he was 6'4" or 6'3"?
Im looking to buy one here in UK but it must be a diesel for number of reasons but im 6.2 ft and when sat in one I felt no discomfort at leaast in front of it hmmm.
🤣 great video. I used to have a 1996 Cherokee and had to move to regular cars. I now want to get back on a jeep suv and I am debating between the 2012 Liberty and the 2010 Commander. I do want the 3.7 v6 as anything bigger seems to be quite difficult to work on it in that engine bay. MPGs are the same, so that's not a factor for me. Do you know if their parts are interchangeable? ie. bearings, shafts etc.
I do believe the lower component parts are the same no matter what engine size you have. It’s also the same for that time frame Cherokee. Thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed. Ha ha.
this is comedy gold! Ive had my commander for about 3 years. Its got the hemi, 93k miles, clean title one owner. and its been the best lawn ornament ive ever have because its too nice to drive haha tbh I absolutely love it and Its about to get served a nice dose of my gtx88mm turbo. Were talking about a real street commander.
@@OJCoz @Overlanding Jst Coz The goal for now is around 600. I already run it to about 500 with nitrous. It actually handles the extra power insanely well but with a hemi tuned right these motors willl take up to 800hp with no major modifications besides the fact that it becomes a literal race car. But I understand the risks and Its perfectly worth it to me because I love drag racing. I guess its just a different twist to one of these commanders but im sure youve seen what the trackhawks can do. Ill have some videos up and show what these beasts are capable of.
Very helpful video! I’m 6’7 like your friend and thought about purchasing a Jeep commander overland but now I’m on the fence about it. Hello from Phoenix, Arizona!
Love channel man! I got an 06 commander. Hemi. Im with you on all the chrome. Think about bedliner on the chrome stuff (pretty simple) I did the whole"land cruiser" the abuser...lol. I also bedlined the Commander's overfenders black. The stuff is great especially for branch encounters. I would post some pics, but don't know how. Keep up the good work. You ever want to come to Cali and do mojave or death Valley, hit me up. Amazing overland trips!
@@OJCoz she is my Lady. I wish I can send u pictures. I like what u done with your commander also. There is a guy on utube they handmade drawers in the back. U would have to loose the 3rd row.
Yea I saw that guy with the drawers and man it looks clean! I took my 3rd row out but I don’t have the skills to build something like that. Not yet anyway!
Yea I had the same issue with mine for the longest abek. I started of by having my mechanic change the transfer case fluid and reset it and so far so good. I couldn’t believe it was that simple and I thought it was going to be way worse bc most people have to take further steps to fix it. Good luck abek and thanks for your support man!
I know it was some sarcasm but I honestly don't think mine with the 4.7 does too bad. 17mpg. To be fair my other 3 vehicles are 2 expeditions 5.4 and a v10 excursion
Hey Travis thanks for posting bro! The 4.7 engine is not bad at all! I like that it has the tech to shut down a couple cylinders to give you better gas mileage but still give that v8 cylinder power when you need it.
I'm getting 13mpg on the freeway and it's hurting my pocket by now ! Gas in 5 bucks a gallon in San Diego, CA.. so my love for this truck is expensive !! I drive a 2006 4wd commander 5.7 hemi !! I was wondering what kind of engine oil do you use on yours ? That's what I researched that could be one of the reasons why it's using so much gas ! I've already replaced all the coil packs , got iridium spark plugs , new throttle body and for some reason I think it's using up more gas ! Any advice on what else to look out for ? By the way thumps up👍👍 on your channel !
Thanks Guillermo, I appreciate the thumbs up brother! As far as the gas goes.. I think we are all in the same boat. Right now my guage reads 13.7mpg…. My gas is $4+. It sucks. I am running synthetic but to be honest I never noticed a difference when I made the change. Good luck bro, hopefully this ends soon.
Sup bro...i just bought a 06' 5.7(110k miles)...black limited just like the one you have....so i just got to ask ..what parts do i need to replace after 110k? And what lift do you have in your jeep..? Thanks
Hey what’s up man! Thanks for your post. So Ive had my commander since 2018 and it had 90k miles. Since then I’ve had to replace the radiator(cracked). I replaced it with an aluminum one vs plastic. I also had a leak through the sunroof (the drain got clogged, easy fix). And I just recently replaced the transfer fluid. Other then that normal break jobs.
@@OJCoz The radiator is good right now but I'll keep in mind I will replace it eventually with the aluminum one and another thing what do you think about the timing belt?
That’s actually a good question. One thing i made sure of was that the timing belt was changed when i got the car. The previous owner had paperwork on it. So i took it to my mechanic and just had him take a look at it.
I have a '11 liberty. Same thing here. Great off road even in stock form but I can't seem to find much aftermarket support. And, no jeep waves either lol!
Should be! Lol! Even in stock form I've taken my liberty into places I didn't think it would go. The ole thing just keeps trucking on! Or, maybe Jeeping on lol
The front seats go back plenty. The only thing is the further the front seats go back the less room the back row has, which would be the case in any SUV.
Now I'm trying to think of 5 things I don't like about my Commander too, but so far I got nothing.... Maybe I just haven't had it long enough lol. (I bought mine in October last year) I find it to be pretty spacious, but then I'm not too tall, and about the gas, I don't find it to be too bad, it's a pretty big vehicle after all. Mine is V6 though, and I have to split driving time with my XJ, and mostly weekends since I work with company van, so I guess all that helps the Commander to disguise his drinking problem lol I'm not a big fan of chrome either, classic vehicles looks cool with it but nothing above the 1990's, much less 2000's lol, so it took a little time to get used to the big chrome grill
Ha the drinking problem is being hidden by the other cars. Almost like they are enablers haha. Thanks for your post bro and I hope you don’t find anything you don’t like :)
My heater broke and my long time mechanic said it was going to cost 1400 to replace it! He explained that the majority is labor cost bc he has to take off the whole dashboard. Thankfully, it’s getting warm haha
It did actually! What grade gas do you put in it? I used to put the low grade gas and it would shut down. Then I switched to mid grade and it stopped. Someone else told me and I didn’t believe it haha. But for me anyway, it had to do with the Hemi not liking the cheap stuff.
I love the body, but the stock wheels are terrible, like a kids first lego car with huge square body and tiny wheels, i have mine raised on 32", suits the vehicle so much better. Its decent off road but They should have dedicated more to it's off road capability. Made it the wranglers daddy as it's faster more manly and 5.7 v8 is great with straight pipes. 👌
I have a 2010 commander. I think its 3.7.. there is no 4L... does the 4wd engage automatically? I saw it has Quadra trainn II or something. I just can't tell if 4wd is engaging or not. I want to take it on a beach before the summers over just worried I'm going to bury myself lol
Are for certain it doesn’t have 4Low? Some of the Commanders did come with rear wheel drive. If its not a “limited” model then its more likely rear wheel drive. On mine, 4x4 is engaged all the time. Then i go into 4low for the harder stuff. Gosh i hope this helps Michael:)
Taylor what do you mean it’s a stick on cover that I can peel? When I took it off it seemed pretty solid to me. I will be so pissed if all I had to do was peel it off lol
Anselmo, I just checked and I have nothing. No sticker on mine. At least that I could see or peel anyway. I’ve painted it a couple times so maybe it’s buried in the paint :/
Two dislikes: Unable to find the piss-off tube for the A/C so I can get rid of the stale smell. "Alarm" is a joke. I sympathize on the fuel guzzling. I have a 4.7 and my cost to drive is about 50 cents a mile
One thing that I did that helped with my smell early on was clean the head liners! You will be amazed on how much dirt will come off!!! I vacuumed it good then used regular soap and water and just scrubbed, rinse, repeat.. did the same with the carpet I had to change the pale of soapy water like 5 times bc it got brown so fast! Do it on a day when it’s not going to rain for the next few days that way you can air it out to dry. I hope this helps.. Can’t help ya on the gas:)
I have the 08 Commander, the 1 thing I don’t like… it leaks through handles in the front and fills up the front floor. 😆 I’m in California gas ⛽️ is killing me.
If that’s the case, your Jeep is leaking through the sunroof. It’s a very easy fix that all together took me about 30 minutes. Look up on UA-cam, several old vids on how to fix that
Great channel & video. New owner of '06 Limited with that sweet Hemi & love me some Quadra-Drive II too. Where's your most reliable source for parts for Commander & in general?
Hey Christopher thanks for the support man! Summit racing has been pretty good. But bumpers from WAM and rock sliders from rocky road off-road. Rocky road off-road has a few mods to add on
Great video!! Yep, I agree... the chrome is just not cool. I ended up painting all of the chrome on my Commander black and it looks awesome against silver paint. I had to paint the fender flares to eliminate the chrome bolts... but again, the end result is so much better than rollin' with that shiny chrome. I mean let's face it, this is a JEEP! If I wanted a bunch of chrome, I would have purchased a Caddy or Lincoln.
Very informative and entertaining video! I’m not a jeep/Chrysler person but recently I’ve started to paid attention to these commanders driving around. I love how they look robust and rugged like a Wrangler but has much more storage and seating capacity as a bigger suv. I’m 5’6 with shoes on so the seats wouldn’t be a problem for me and my folks if I ever get one sometime far in the future. And the 5.7 Hemi stuffed into this thing? Sounds like a small dream come true! I’m concerned about the reliability of these things of course. My 2002 F150 gets 11.5 mpg combined and 12.5 if I’m lucky. My 2004 4runner v6 is a bit of an econobox car sleeper and has tons of power for what I’m used to and gets 14-15 mpg combined city driving so far. These are numbers I calculate at the pump with some topping off. I imagine the 5.7 Hemi gets somewhere in between. What a cool truck especially with some clean paint and wheels!
Thanks Bebe! They are definitely not known for their reliability but luckily knock on wood mine has been great. And I’ve talked to a bunch of folks that have had the same luck as me. You know how it is, one’s that we’re built on Monday or Friday will probably have issues compared to one’s built in the middle of the week:) haha. I absolute love mine with the 5.7 and I think they are just different looking then anything on the road. My gas mileage averages between 13.4-14 Around town. I’ve gone on trips on the highway where I get 17mpg and I get excited! Hah
Wow Ian 17mpg? I got that one time for about 5 minutes when I was going down hill with a tail wind.. :). Once I get back to level road, it levels out at 13. Thanks for your comment brother!
Hey Zach! Thanks for your post man! I actually don’t really like the phone holder much because with the case it barely hooks on. However what I did to get any of those types to stay on at the base is a very light coat of super glue to reinforce the weight. Just know when it comes time for an upgrade getting the glue back off is going to be a little work!
The hits just keep on coming. Quality video. It is super cool to see someone who isn’t driving a wrangler or 4 runner doing the overland experience. My personal favorite the Mazda b2500 ,also gets less the the full respect that it deserves. I don’t think your tall friend is actually 6’5” anyway. It sounds like he has a chip in his shoulder and may be an unpleasant person . Probably drive a gm product…..enough said.
Hey Forrest welcome back and thank you for the support! Man, it’s like you know my friend very well! He is unpleasant, especially when he’s hungry and what a surprise, he actually does drive a GM:)
How do you like the quadratrac 2 system. I'm looking at one for sale 07 hemi commander, mint condition 87k miles all bone stock for under 12k is that worth it? Thank's
@@jefro610 Hey Jeff mine is a quadradrive 2. I think it seems like a good deal. The mileage is low and that’s awesome! Make sure you check for rust on the undercarriage and check for water stains on the rug because they are known to leak from the sunroof (clogged drain hole, easily fixed). Do a thorough test drive. I would be a load off if you could run it by a mechanic. Man i hope this helps! Good luck and keep me posted!
@@OJCoz ok yes thats what I ment the quadadrive 2 I was lost with my 2 previous zjs I had. Also thank's again for the fast response and your service in the military. I can't even get that kind of service from the dealership.

Haha good question Richard:). I can always get rid of the chrome.. I haven’t yet though because it’s not that horrible. It’s one of those things f I could have my way type of thing.. and as far as the leg room? As long as I am comfortable in the drivers seat then I’m good:)
06 5.7L Hemi limited 4x4. The 545rfe transmission in mine is complete garbage. I've had to replace the solenoid block in it and now the new one isn't working properly and it keeps putting my car in limp mode over false over heating messages.
I’d wave at ya! Nice looking rig! I like the commander, and have considered getting one to build, but I’ve only sat in one twice. We’re tall, also, so not pumped about the legroom.
Thanks Matt haha! Yea the leg room can be a pain to deal with. But hey as long as you, the driver are comfortable right!? Lol. Thanks for your post man!
Very true but even still, some parts are getting harder and harder to find. I have the 4inch superlift and they discontinued it. That means if i break any of those installed parts, I’m screwed
As far as the engine goes I’ve done the wiring to the switch panel and installed the cold air. Other then that I take it to the same mechanic I e used for the last 12 years. I initially took it to a jeep dealership one time bc my guy had a long wait…. They didn’t know it was full time 4x4 haha. Never again. What area are you located
I have.. it just requires taking all the pieces off or prepping the surrounding area which makes me a little nervous. The fake bolts around the fender is what I’m worried about and like the least
I completely agree. Lol. I never got any respect from other Jeepers until I went off road. Once they saw the Commander is nearly as capable as the Wrangler..but has more room for other gear and people....they were all smiles and respect.
Nice Will that’s awesome!

Lol. Great video. So far here is my list.
1. I hate how hard it is to remove the valve covers.
2. Wiring anything through the hatch.
3. Transmission shift points.
4. How heavy it is.
5. The clevis bolt.
Hey thanks man! All good mechanical points haha! Hope you and the fam had a Merry Christmas and be safe for the new year brother
Yes! The 5-speed was outdated even then.
Great video! I’m a Jeep commander owner 12 years now! I love my commander! Jeep 👋
Awesome Jay! Thanks for your post!!
How is she running after 12 years??
Your welcome! Yeah it’s running really good at the moment. Parts are a bit tough sometimes… I discovered a few months ago that there are only 45 commanders in New Zealand 🇳🇿
Wow 1 of 45!? I bet it is hard to find parts. And ordering parts gets pricy. I’m glad it’s still trucking for you after 12 years.
I have an 06 with 120,000 right now (bought it with 114,000). Love it soo much! Anyone below 6' fits without issues. I just wish I sat higher and the steering wheel wouldn't be only an inch from my legs (both of which are at their max height)..
Awesome brother!
Haha Patti that is awesome!! I’m glad your Commander is still running strong but DAMN that grand wagoner sounds amazing!! I loved that look
So when I got my Commander it didn’t have chrome rims so I don’t know about the peeling but I can imagine after a few years…
Inside chrome hasn’t for me yet though. And damn bro 8mpg??? Haha. Where are you? Downtown LA? Lol
Hey theres always a 4.7 v8 version lmao
@@candlesstaylit3964That’s what i got. I prefer V6 like my previous vehicle Suzuki Grand Vitara & it’s great on gas. I wish it’s good on gas, I fill it once every week.
I love my '08 4.7. Everything you said is true, but oh well. I enjoy having more rare vehicles.
Very true JT haha. Thanks for your post brother!
I’d just like to point out that I’m 6foot 2 and I fit perfectly in my jeep commander, and the seats can move back 😮
And the jeep commander is honestly a great car! I just wish it had more power
I hear you brother. I just think in the front passenger the plastic sticks out a bit and unless you push the seats all the way back the knees touch. If that happens then the poor souls in the back seat have zero room.
More power is always good my friend. Thanks for your post!
Love my Chrome!!
Awesome John and thank for watching!!
I had a 2006 4x4 with the hemi. It had some electrical gremlins so I got rid of it! 🙁 I just totaled my 14 Grand Cherokee and really wanting to find another Commander!
Just make sure when you find one to do a thorough check bc there are a lot out there with gremlin issues:)
Heavy vehicle that was better than my cherokee in snow and glare ice. Downside was there was no cargo space when hauling seven. Poor mans G wagon but so reliable. Still have it.
Haha well said John. Thanks for your post brother!
I considered bidding for a 2006 Limited V8 at auction, and then I saw this vid about replacement parts....I hope it had a longer run so parts are more readily available. Gonna settle for an 09 Toyota Sequoia
You can’t go wrong with that either. My one experience with finding a clevis fork was a pain. There’s been other little parts as well.
Same. 07 Commander. I don't get Jeep waves either....but i did get a duck 😂
Lmao I got one too and for a second felt like part of the club:)
@OJCoz Commander drivers are the more Elite of the Jeep owners, anybody can drive a Wrangler 🤣
@TheUrbanSentinelChannel bro that’s the truth! Getting that big tank in and out of tight spots is a skill!
Commander with Hemi 5.7 is the best it can be. Its sound, its appearance, its permeability!!! My children are happy that Commander is in our family
Haha that’s awesome! The on going joke with our kids is when they see a nice car they say “wow that is nice! But the Commander is better, Dad”. Haha. I’ve trained them well:)
that is such unfair comment on the leg room in front. I have a 2006 Commander and the front seat legroom is not that bad, You're 5'10" and right up against it, and I'm 6'2" and have no issues, however once in the back and far back I do agree it
Thanks for watching Jed!
Thank you! I love your reviews because I'm thinking about getting a blue 1.
Thank you, just make sure you check it good! People don’t take care of things like they should:/
Today, chrome is passé, but so are a lot of automotive features associated with the first decade of this century. I still adore an 80s or 90s Wagoneer when I see one; and I somehow manage to appreciate its faux woodgrain because it was a "thing" back in the day. To me, the same goes for the Commander: It will always look terrific, especially in top-of-the-line trim.
Not going to lie Dano, you have a damn good point haha!
Thanks for your post and thanks for watching! :)
Okay, #5 my driver seat fits me fine & no one sitting behind me complains about legroom (2 of my 3 6’+ brothers have ridden in my Commander). Removed the 3rd row seat
#4 - you have a lot more chrome than I do. I think my grill is most of the chrome on mine. Now, mine was virtually all white and that was too much - bumpers, fender flairs, and rails are blue
#3 - absolutely true
#2 - I have the 4.7L V-8 so I probably do better on mileage than you. 17.5 around town, 20-ish on long trips
#1 - true, and never get ducked, either!
Haha Debbi thank you for your post!
As a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi owner, I can relate! Haha, you forgot to add "Maintenence." I love Jeep, but they're definitely money fire pits. 😢
Very true!! Haha
Ha hell yea it can! That thing just keeps rolling!! I love it
@@OJCoz How do you get involved with overlanding
Just make sure you have water, food, and somewhere to sleep. Then find trails on “onx” app or gia app. Look for trails with disperse camping.
Agree with all the chrome 👌 I also don't like the inside door handles being plastic (broke mine twice already)
Yes! I’ve heard that happens and im always trying to remember to be careful! One day though, it will happen
@@OJCoz Check out @The Shop Nutz Light Bar Install (just something to share)
you do have a adjustment bar that lets the seat slide back its really cool you should try it it'll giv e you more leg room a lot more
Now that is… no bull shit haha
@@OJCoz26-35mpg over in Europe out of a 3litre Mercedes diesel (4.45litres/gallon), more if you bypass the emissions crap!
@williamrae9954 wow that’s awesome! Thanks for your post William!
When the day came that my driveway we'll have 1 more cars spot .I'm considering to buy one clean commander
haha what's funny is I live in a cookie cutter neighborhood and all the driveways are super small! except for mine because of where they built the house.
Hey T-Jay thanks for the compliment brotha!!! I like that idea but as long as I’m comfortable, thats all that matters! Haha! I appreciate your post!
@@OJCoz haha! Yes comfort is everything. I’m 6’3” seat relocation brackets were one of the very first mods I did on my TJ.
The phone call made me roll right outta bed this morning lmfao
Haha thanks Koga!! I hope that it’s a start to a great week ahead!
I just bought one used and I agree with #1 and #2 plus two more. The interior lights and the electrical door controls. Help please!
What is going on with the interior lights and door controls?
I could never understand why Jeep didn't call these the 'Wagoneer'
I agree
companies weren't so tapped into retro nostalgia when it came out.
Thanks for your post Justin! Now it seems everything is coming back haha
The small vertical windshield lol. Not preferable for long distance driving.
Haha you are absolutely correct! That did take awhile to get used to.
I laughed out loud at the gas skit. My lifted hemi is the same way. Subbed!
Awesome! Thanks for the support Jerry!!
Lol yea at this point I do it so much he doesn’t even stop me anymore haha. Thanks for watching Robert!
You have @nice commander, I owned my for 7 years, I love chrome on black 🤗
Thanks man!! Go find you another! Haha
Im looking to buy one here in UK but it must be a diesel for number of reasons but im 6.2 ft and when sat in one I felt no discomfort at leaast in front of it hmmm.
Awesome soton!! Good luck. Maybe the passenger seat was pushed all the way back lol. Thanks for your post. Keep me posted on your new ride:)
I love my commander inside and out. She is beautiful.
Very cool Luis! I feel the exact same way
The Jeep wave was comedy! Lol
Thanks D Man, all in fun haha
Sounds like a real gem. About how many hp when you done is it going to have??
@@OJCoz @Overlanding Jst Coz The goal for now is around 600. I already run it to about 500 with nitrous. It actually handles the extra power insanely well but with a hemi tuned right these motors willl take up to 800hp with no major modifications besides the fact that it becomes a literal race car. But I understand the risks and Its perfectly worth it to me because I love drag racing. I guess its just a different twist to one of these commanders but im sure youve seen what the trackhawks can do. Ill have some videos up and show what these beasts are capable of.
Haha what!! That’s crazy!!! I definitely want to see videos!
Very helpful video! I’m 6’7 like your friend and thought about purchasing a Jeep commander overland but now I’m on the fence about it. Hello from Phoenix, Arizona!
Hi roscoe! Well if your the driver then your golden. But pretty much any other position your going to be a little tight:)

The commander should share a lot of parts with the grand Cherokee
Your absolutely right but neither have after market assesories. :/
The jeep cherokee does

Me and .my family own 06 hemi Grey 1 it's been ok but what can I do About service 4wheel drive system

@@OJCoz Thanks brother subscribing to your channel 👍🏼

Awesome Miller!!! That’s great news! I hope you really enjoy it like I enjoy mine:)
do you think that your friend at 6'5 or 6'7 could drive it comfortably.
Oh yes absolutely. But I would feel bad for the person sitting behind him:).
Does seats go back any father I really want one now I'm so emotional
The front seats go back plenty. The only thing is the further the front seats go back the less room the back row has, which would be the case in any SUV.
@@OJCoz thanks it's just me and my son
Oh plenty of space brother! Go out and adventure!
Now I'm trying to think of 5 things I don't like about my Commander too, but so far I got nothing.... Maybe I just haven't had it long enough lol. (I bought mine in October last year)
I find it to be pretty spacious, but then I'm not too tall, and about the gas, I don't find it to be too bad, it's a pretty big vehicle after all. Mine is V6 though, and I have to split driving time with my XJ, and mostly weekends since I work with company van, so I guess all that helps the Commander to disguise his drinking problem lol
I'm not a big fan of chrome either, classic vehicles looks cool with it but nothing above the 1990's, much less 2000's lol, so it took a little time to get used to the big chrome grill
Ha the drinking problem is being hidden by the other cars. Almost like they are enablers haha. Thanks for your post bro and I hope you don’t find anything you don’t like :)
@@OJCoz I should've figured they were up to something lol
❤ the commander. Cheers from Canada
Cheer brother and thanks for watching!!
If you want the best of both worlds get the 4.7L v8, my personal favorite over the hemi. Better mileage by a lot depending on circumstances and uses
Josiah I love my Hemi. Gas prizes are stupid right now but it’s all good:/
My 2009 commander is super expensive to fix.
My heater broke and my long time mechanic said it was going to cost 1400 to replace it! He explained that the majority is labor cost bc he has to take off the whole dashboard. Thankfully, it’s getting warm haha
I have an 07 commander with the hemi 5.7l 4x4 and it turns off on me once in a while
Does your commander turn off as well ?
Amen brother! 100% on everything you said!!
Thanks man. Yeah idk. It's not a limited and it says 4x4 on the back.. maybe it's on all the time.
True. I just hope someone didn’t buy the badge. I’ve heard of people buying the “Hemi” badge to put on haha
The chrome peice on gas take is a stick on cover you can peel it off. It’s not factory.
Taylor what do you mean it’s a stick on cover that I can peel? When I took it off it seemed pretty solid to me. I will be so pissed if all I had to do was peel it off lol
@@OJCoz have you checked yet?
No!! Lmao I completely forgot Anselmo!!! I’m going to do it within the next hour. Let me finish my morning routine. Thanks for subbing brother!
Can’t help ya on the gas:)
great video. very funny too. jeep on!!!!
Haha thanks jvida! I have my moments.
I have the 08 Commander, the 1 thing I don’t like… it leaks through handles in the front and fills up the front floor.
😆 I’m in California gas ⛽️ is killing me.
Hey kristy when you say “handles” do you mean the “oh crap handles going down the A pillar(front pillar holding the front windshield)?
If that’s the case, your Jeep is leaking through the sunroof. It’s a very easy fix that all together took me about 30 minutes. Look up on UA-cam, several old vids on how to fix that
I have a 07 commander that did the same thing every time it rained, it was the drains for the sunroof, cleaned them out, no more problem
Oh man..I feel for you! Wa has really high gas prices too. We have the Hemi v8 as well.
Haha JK Marshall you couldn’t be more right! Hey how did you end up painting those bolts??? Give me some pointers please
Love the chrome, if my 5.7 wasn't white I don't think it'd work tho lol
Thanks for your post Jonathan. So chrome is a go depending on color. Haha. I’ll take that for sure!
Hah
I get 15 to 17.5 in mine with the 4.7 magnum
Wow Ian 17mpg? I got that one time for about 5 minutes when I was going down hill with a tail wind.. :). Once I get back to level road, it levels out at 13. Thanks for your comment brother!
The overlander sith the 5.7 has passive 4cyl mode at cruising and deceleration
What is the phone mount that you use? I have tried like 4 of them, none stick on that section of the dashboard you have yours on.
But now I will definitely check out this jeep commander your videos helped me make the best decision and they all rock if I end up getting it I will send you some pics I appreciate it man from the Pacific Northwest. Also thank's again for the fast response and your service in the military. I can't even get that kind of service from the dealership.
Haha no worries and thank you Jeff! And please do send pics and with your permission I can post them in one of my videos!
biggest tires you can fit without lift?
Just stick suspension I want to say 265s but will rub pretty good. 2inch lift and 265 are good.
@@OJCoz thank you sir👌
I really love my commander ❤❤❤
Yeah that chrome sucks smh and what's the car sign with the squiggly lines? Is that traction control or what?
It is traction control. When you put it in 4Lo, it turns it off
I feel him on the jeep wave💀 its like the commander isnt respected like the Cherokee or wrangler😂 but i love my commander.
Amen brother! Haha. I don’t need their waves;)
@@OJCoz Awe come on don’t be like that. I got you bruh.
👋😂
Hell yea T-Jay! That wave is appreciated:)
@@OJCoz looks like your channels off to a good start. I just sub’d. I have an overland/rock crawling TJ I converted into an LJ a few years ago. I do occasional build update videos. Come check me out when you have some spare time. ✌️
Thanks T-Jay i will for sure man!
So mostly its all your personal problems except for leg room. You didnt say how far you drove and the mileage u got
Yeah brother is just my opinion.
Nice video..... Thanks!
Your very welcome Tiger! Thanks for watching bro!
Why did you buy this thing if there is sooooo much chrome and no leg room?
Haha good question Richard:). I can always get rid of the chrome.. I haven’t yet though because it’s not that horrible. It’s one of those things f I could have my way type of thing.. and as far as the leg room? As long as I am comfortable in the drivers seat then I’m good:)
I have one and I love mine,
Awesome Deborah! I plan on keeping mine forever:)
Would you be willing to trade your chrome ac vents with my black ones?
Eventually I would like to replace them but I don’t know about black. A little color would be good but nothing crazy
@@OJCoz if you do get rid of them let me know I’ll buy them off you
Sounds good!
From a lifted WJ, we don't get respect either..and I know I do more off road then most mall rated Wranglers.
Haha Amen brother! I’ll take skill over vehicle any day.
if you got one with the electric lockers you lovin it
06 5.7L Hemi limited 4x4. The 545rfe transmission in mine is complete garbage. I've had to replace the solenoid block in it and now the new one isn't working properly and it keeps putting my car in limp mode over false over heating messages.
Damn KM I'm sorry to hear that. What is your next plan?
I’d wave at ya! Nice looking rig! I like the commander, and have considered getting one to build, but I’ve only sat in one twice. We’re tall, also, so not pumped about the legroom.
Thanks Matt haha! Yea the leg room can be a pain to deal with. But hey as long as you, the driver are comfortable right!? Lol. Thanks for your post man!
"Why are you laughing??"😂😂😂
Yeah it’s always a laugh when I talk to anyone about the Commander. Even at the dealership they are asking me questions they should know! Lol
No ways no5 which SUV beats it hahahahhah the back rows are raw!
Haha yup!
The parts for jeep commander is the same as the jeep Cherokee
Very true but even still, some parts are getting harder and harder to find. I have the 4inch superlift and they discontinued it. That means if i break any of those installed parts, I’m screwed
do you work on you own jeep commander ? if not do you know anyone that does
As far as the engine goes I’ve done the wiring to the switch panel and installed the cold air. Other then that I take it to the same mechanic I e used for the last 12 years. I initially took it to a jeep dealership one time bc my guy had a long wait…. They didn’t know it was full time 4x4 haha. Never again. What area are you located
Anyone ever think about bedliner on all that chrome
I have.. it just requires taking all the pieces off or prepping the surrounding area which makes me a little nervous. The fake bolts around the fender is what I’m worried about and like the least
Ironically, they put "chrome" all over vehicl vehicles to look fancy, but it looks so tacky, especially after a few years.
Very true
I've never sat in the passenger seat so thats a non issue lol
Ha I hear you Mike!
