How to Steam Vegetables Correctly

- Steaming vegetables is the healthiest way to eat them, and also the easiest. Add some butter, lemon, or your favorite spices to twist them up.
They go great on the side of any dish, especially my grilled chicken ;)

This is how a cooking video should be made. Simple, straightforward and uncomplicated. Thanks for sharing🙏🙏🙏
Good video, thanks. As an ex chef, I will compliment you on touching on all the bases, especially the nutrition part. I would add just one tip. You are right that cooking times differ for different vegetables and one way to judge when they are done is, yes the tenderness with a little crunch, but also when the color of the vegetable is at it's brightest: bright green, bright orange, etc. (except the mushrooms, they don't really change except getting a little darker). Bon appetite'.
oh wow what an honor to be complimented by an ex chef. and thank you so much for your comments. i will take them to heart
Gregory im suprised you havnt made a steaming video
How do you keep the veg warm if you are cooking at separate intervals?
... put them in a pan next to a log fire ~ obvs
My question is after steaming you now cut the veggies to your desired size or cut before steaming
This is the BOSS of all the ways to steam veggies. I will use it forever. Thanks!
Wow! You covered every detail that must be known when it comes to properly steaming vegetables! People are complaining how lengthy it is but why should you leave out any information in your tutorial!
Zehrah Arshad ...
By the time you have cooked the last vegetable, the first ones must be cold . I put everything in together and steam until tender and they are all hot at the same time, usually 6 minutes.

Perfect! Just what I was looking for. I've never steamed any veggies in the past. This will help me immensely. Thank you.
Thank you! I needed this information but never look it up. It's a good thing I found your video. I boil my vegetables but I almost always overcooked them. Your way helps me to get the most nutrition out of them.
Thank You! this is so simple but I had no idea how to steam veggies before. I tried this last night and my vegetables were delicious!
Meha Prem Sankar i'm glad to hear that Meha :)
CookingWithAmira are you supposed to keep the stove off or on? Coz I kept it on and burnt the pot so I’m assuming off lool 🤦🏾♂️😂😭
Great night food😉😉😉
Thank you :) I bought my first steamer last night and had great veggies today.
I've been steaming my food for about 60 years. I steam fish and meat (only thin cuts of meat) as well, and line up all the food for the meal according to the length of time each takes to cook, then, after boiling the kettle (much faster) for the pot on the stove I add the foods in order, the one requiring the longest steaming first. I let that steam for a while then put the next in. By steaming regularly you learn how long stuff takes for your taste and can organise the timing appropriately. To serve I cover in grated cheese or slather loads of butter over it. I also use herbs and spices in with the stuff steaming and use the steaming water afterwards to make gravy. As an engineer living on my own I don't have time to mess about with lots of pots and fancy recipes and believe in optimisation! This gives me a good healthy cooked meal with little effort every night. If you're going to steam meat you should probably use a meat thermometer, but heck! I don't have time to fuss and I don't have a meat thermometer and I'm still here! Tonight: new potatoes on the bottom of the steamer, after 30 mins put in the sprouting broccolli and salmon fillet, salt, lemon and dill. Eight minutes later it's done, put it on a pre-heated (under the hot tap) plate, butter on the potatoes and broccolli, wash the pan and steamer, that way I don't burn my mouth on the hot food. When entertaining just double up the quantities, same cooking time, same amount of washing up. Couldn't be simpler or quicker.
Wow...steaming food for 60 years ..My gout is back again and I feel like I need be conscious about the food I eat....
I was going to type the suggestion of just putting them in the steaming basket in order, but you did a lot more detailed instrutions....thanks for saving me time...
Tried steaming vegetables for the first time last night. They were so crispy and tasted so much better. Thank you.
Thank you very much Amira : ) you are a well spoken lovely lady! All these years, I have been steaming the wrong way until I found your helpful video.
WHAT'S THE WRONG WAY..??....NO WATER..????......

Thank you so much Amira! This video is most appreciated. It's good to learn about the pot steamer and how to properly use it. Thank you for taking the time to do this video - very helpful and useful.
I love my vegetables! Especially steamed! Delicious!
Thank you for making this video. The other videos I watched on stemming vegetable they put all kinds of vegetables in the pot at one time. This video made more sense. I'm more of a fruitarian than a vegetarian but one of my doctors told me to try steaming some vegetables and adding them to my diet. Due to jaw issues a lot of vegetables are hard me to chew. This video will help me out a lot. I can't wait to steam some carrots and other vegetables. Thank you!
+Isabella A Rossellini most welcome Isabelle. good luck!

I have a silicone steamer that I never use. I like the metal one better, so going to get back into steaming my vegetables. I picked up bits of info. from you, like boil the water first and cook the vegetables separately because of different cooking times. Thank you very much.

Simple and perfect explanation that can even guide a person who does not know ABC of cooking.! Keep it up. 👍👌
Happened on the video with a roll over play. Cooked since I couldn't even reach the stove, but this is very sweet and concise, making extra notes about people not damaging their pans a beginner would be schooled.
Thanks for sharing these cooking tips. I 'm going to try them them this evening with my family.

I wasn't satisfied with the previous steaming videos that I watched si I kept on clicking in them until I came across yours. I am a huge lover of Vegetable Medley, which they sell at Walmart, so now when I buy them again, I will be reminded of your video ANND I'm gonna buy a stainless steel pot & a steaming basket to put in the pot. 👍👍👍
this is so helpful ...thank you very much, love from japan!
Thank u. Much love from Jordan
Thank you for share...
You don't need any fancy equipments
Goes on showing some alien technology 😂
I don't even know what that big steam bowl was, even though she said it twice. The closed caption called it a "calendar"... I do not think that means what UA-cam thinks it means.
Alan Smith-Emerson it’s a strainer.
@@commandercaptain4664 It's a colander, also called a strainer. Usually used for draining the water off foods.
Exactly what I had in mind 😂😂😂
Yes, strainers are used for cooking rice

nice.. v simple and convenient .
I learned.thanks.
It's really interesting to see when one capable of understand such complex subjects yet no ability to explain that to a another, (hence no audience),
and then there are others (rarely) like you, explaining a simple matter that most of the people already know and understand...yet capable of grabbing all attention of everybody eventhough; they already know how.
Beautifully done and well explained video. Don't mind, even for a second, about bad comments..there will be always few that never will able to keep up no matter what.
in your first sentence you need to add 'ing' to understand, understanding. Or you could put in a comma, or become less pretentious.
AWESOME!!!! Thank you!!! 🥰🥰🥰
That steaming basket is cool!!! Thank you for this. You look very nice and I like your voice. ❤️
