Bruh. Geno threw the ball just after Bosa tackled. I swear, man. These flags of roughing the passer are insane
It was called bcuz he landed with his full weight on geno. This rule sucks tho
@@dynastynfl Rule is so confusing, how does the NFL expect 250+ lb dlinemen to defy gravity
@L2 Easy. Using their own weight to bounce off the QB
@@lng30 Yeah I agree, especially when they make calls like the one against Chris Jones
Hey it was good for my fantasy so obviously it’s the correct call
I’m a Seahawks fan but that is a terrible call, what is Bosa even supposed to do there if he can’t tackle the qb as he’s just releasing the ball
It's just bad for football.
If anything it's putting QBs in more danger. At some point, DCs will start telling their guys to stop pulling up last second and risk their knee or something when they're gonna get called anyway.
Or just smoke them and get your money’s worth if they’re gonna call that. If it’s gonna be powder puff have hot chicks playing. These refs act like nurturing mothers. And what makes it worse they call it for bad qbs. If Tom gets a call here and there whatever like Jordan would but smith?
It’s like a porn star. The finish is everything
the hit that caused Geno to fumble early on was more of a roughing the passer call (only because it was high). Horrible calls lately.
What an aboslute joke of a call. This league is embarassing.
Powder puff football
As a 9er fan this is TRUE
Yes but out of all of the roughing the passer calls, which one is the correct call? Clearly some roughing the passer calls were not called. So which one qualifies or which one doesn't since the commentators and spectators say one thing and then the other.
@@ericbaek3706 Its a dumb rule. There are specific instances where it should be called, which is something along the lines of unnecessary roughness, but a defender putting their own weight on the QB? How does a defender avoid that while trying to tackle?
The refs are not embarrassing
These 'roughing the passer' calls are really getting out of control, and this isn't even the worst one. My favorite so far is when Chris Jones roughed the passer when he (Chris Jones, not the QB) had the football in his hands. The first ever ball carrier to 'rough the passer'.
When QB is in the pocket whether he has the ball or not, you cannot throw him into the ground. That was right call.
@@sungshin393 but he didn't throw him to the ground? They call roughing the passer cause he landed on him. Also what do you want when a guy's tackling a quarterback? for him to just disappear after he touches him?
@@sungshin393are you braindead
That's the cleanest football play I've ever seen
We are literally at a point where finishing a tackle because of gravity is roughing the passer.
it wasnt all gravity look at the defenders last step before going down. you can clearly see he put pressure on his leg to drive him down a little harder. i strongly agree with everyone saying these roughing the passer calls are ridiculous though.
that was a tough call.....I would have let it go....
I think this is a conspiracy to keep Tom Brady playing till he's 50.
Another reason why NFL ratings have continued downward
Bs
Once again the league expects the defender to disappear mid-tackle
OR just not follow through with a full tackle when the ball was definitely going to be out of his hands when he got there, as it was.
@@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTMbruh..
@@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTM Yes, because he already had him wrapped up and were BOTH going down. Is he supposed to defy gravity at that point?
@@gambleaway8252 according to the refs. Yes.
There is not a single thing Bosa did to warrant that call. Hit the QB while he still had the ball. Hit him in the torso. Wrapped him up. No helmet contact. But because he had the audacity to not defy gravity, a great play gets called back.
The fact that the NFL has not tried to fix this at all suggests they don't care one bit about the game.
You people keep giving them money and audience, why they should change anything?
Exactly! He may play like Superman, but he doesn't have the ability to suspend his flight in mid-air like Superman. That was just awful.
@@RRRRRRRRR33 that’s not why they won’t change it. Qb’s are the most important role in the NFL. Their the faces of the teams, NFL wants to baby them and make sure they don’t get hurt.
@@noidea989 regardless....if viewership started declining rapidly, the NFL would be forced to reassess the penalty calling, but because people just keep watching no matter how bad the officiating and policies get, it'll never change because it has no incentive to...
That's textbook Roughing. Bosa didn't brace his fall with his hands or attempt to roll off to the side; his entire bodyweight crashed down on Geno. That's a penalty. NFL will always protect QBs over everything, that's the most valuable position.
I know it's not a popular opinion, but preventing 280 pound guys from dropping their full momentum driven weight into lankier 190-230 superstars is in the best interest of the game and the product. If this wasn't a rule, guys would do it every sack (they used to), and you'd have far more early season Justin Herbert's playing with jelly for ribs.
This game shouldn't even have been close. This joke of a call is a big reason why it was.
PS: Nick Bosa after the game was being interviewed and they asked him about this call. He said he could do a better job of finishing and not getting those calls. I was like "bro don't apologize for a shitty call". He's so humble
He landed with full weight on geno and that’s illegal🤷🏽♂️ it’s not a bad call it’s just the rules. @@crispycream6385 just go watch that saints v rams playoff game a few years ago. All of a sudden refs can't call something like a CLEAR pass interference(which is illegal by the rule) but they wanna call roughing the passer on a play like this which the quarterback still had the ball in his hand while he's releasing? Once you put money on sports betting, you understand why they do things like this. They have to keep it within a certain amount of points to win money. Same think with NBA, their calls are horrible and very inconsistent but its one of the most popular sports to bet on.

@@NaniDaMountFuji yeah but there’s a huge difference from the rams call and this one. The rams game was down to the wire and that play pretty much decided who won that game. He got the flag for “finishing the tackle to the ground,” according to the announcer… wow. That was a textbook tackle.
And people agree with this shit? I absolutely hate the NFL, and am growing to hate college football. The rules are ridiculous and I cannot stand the comments of “just tackle right”. Like what do you mean tackle right? What is there to change anymore?
Everybody knows in the NFL you're supposed to finish tackles on a soft feather bed. The ground is no place for a tackle.

Being a pass rusher in the NFL is quickly becoming an unpopular position due to these ticky-tack calls
Yeah, I've seen a handful of these bad roughing-the-passer calls in college football as well. The way they're calling this is making it seem like tackling the quarterback in the pocket is utterly illegal.
I'd say this case is among the more ridiculous penalties - Because the refs show a lack of both common sense and physics.
Well it’s the easiest position
@@youtubeshypocrisy not when you're being penalized for literally just doing your job
Being a DB is no fun either. Like guarding ball handlers in the NBA, defenders can't touch receivers anymore either. They've neutered defense in the two best sports and it's hurting both sports popularity and viewership. Ignore the bs articles that tell you ratings are up. They don't tell you that only over the last few years have ratings included restaurants, bars, etc. that have sports on. The actual number of people viewing at home is down.
I hate to disagree in YT comment sections but I just have to say that pass rushers are the number 1 sought out position on defense and will continue to be that. It's a passing league. Best way to defend the pass is for it not to be thrown. A couple bad calls a game won't change that
Noticed how the official NFL UA-cam highlights conveniently left this play out.

They might as well go one step further and put flags on the QB so the defense doesn't need to tackle the QB. The QB is down the moment the flag is ripped off.
For real! I'm all for it! Because this sorry ass of a league is just hurting the game, make it touch football on their precious qb's!
Just change the name of the penalty already to "Tickling the Passer".

At this point just fuck the QB the hell up. Screw it!
How can you tackle without enough momentum to land on them sometimes?
If you can't hit the QB at the knees and you can't land on him, what is a sack supposed to look like?
you just kinda have to run up to him and ask him to take a knee. But it's a penalty if you don't say "please".
No idea because you can't throw them down either. Only hope is the QB tucks and folds to avoid getting hit at all.

@music channel true
It's not the tackle in general, its the slam of the body weight at the end of it. He had plenty of time to relieve pressure to prevent that, but he followed through with the tackle when he did not have to. I understand it's a controversial call, but by rule that is considered a penalty.
If you don't believe me, here's the exact wording in the rulebook:
"Roughing will be called if, in the Referee’s judgment, a pass rusher clearly should have known that the ball had already left the passer’s hand before contact was made; pass rushers are responsible for being aware of the position of the ball in passing situations; the Referee will use the release of the ball from the passer’s hand as his guideline that the passer is now fully protected; once a pass has been released by a passer, a rushing defender may make direct contact with the passer only up through the rusher’s first step after such release (prior to second step hitting the ground); thereafter the rusher must be making an attempt to avoid contact and must not continue to “drive through” or otherwise forcibly contact the passer; incidental or inadvertent contact by a player who is easing up or being blocked into the passer will not be considered significant.
A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as “stuffing” a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight."
