This is unrelated to the video, but I want to thank you for making all of your helpful hamster videos. My younger sister, who is eleven right now, was obsessed with rodents for years. She begged our parents to let her get one, whether it be some sort of mouse, rat, or hamster. Our parents agreed to let her get a hamster, but she had to do all the research herself, and learn how to properly care for it. We all trusted her, because she was a very responsible nine year old. So every day, constantly, almost nonstop, she watched videos and did research on hamsters and hamster care, and you were her main source. I'd walk into her room at any given moment, and 99% of the time she would be watching your UA-cam channel. She even took notes. Soon, she started to prepare. Each day, she would tell us so many hamster facts that she had learned, and she saved money up to start buying supplies. Once she had everything set up, we went when she was done with school the day after her tenth birthday to the pet store, and she got to take home her Syrian hamster. After not even a month, she kept upgrading the cage, finding problems and solving them. When he bar-bit, she upgraded to a larger cage. When he still bit the bars, she upgraded to a large bin cage. Then, she got a new wheel, and upgraded to an even larger bin cage. All at the age of ten. She cleaned it as often as she needed to, and she cared for it very well. A few months later, after preparing much more, she got a dwarf hamster (something with a long name I can't pronounce.) He was in the Syrian's old bin cage, that he wasn't using. They were both very healthy, and very well taken care of. They still are. Now she's eleven, and she knows so much about hamsters it's honestly shocking. She's taught me a lot. Both the hamsters are still thriving, and she continues to take good care of them. She's even educating her friend on proper hamster care, since her friend is planning on getting a hamster, too. I thank you, Victoria Raechel, because you were pretty much the reason that so many hamsters got to live good lives. You are a vessel of knowledge, and I thank you for this.

I don’t know you or your sister but I’m very proud of her for being so attentive and responsible for these small animals. I've had six mice and two hamsters. They are both great pets, but different. I liked mice because you can have more than one, they're awake during the day, and their bites don't hurt too bad, but they do smell a lot worse than hamsters and poop all over you when you hold them. Hamsters generally like human company more and the cheek pouches are pretty darn cute, but the bites can hurt or even bleed. Both are excellent escape artists!
How about hygiene? I had a hamster many years ago and on one hand he was very dirty because in his nest he used to put food and poop... together!! And he was sleeping there! But on the other hand his excrements were hard "objects" which didn't smear everything they touched, so apart from his nest being a mess he was a clean animal. How are mice in these aspects?

You forgot to mention that Hamsters have very little internal temperature regulation. This is why a hamster should be kept in a controlled environment usually between 68 - 75F. If a hamster is not kept in this temperature range they can either enter torpor on the low end or have their blood thicken (on the high end) possibly causing internal organ damage hastening an early death. In the wild a hamster will regulate their temperature primarily by living under the earth, where the temperature is kept much more moderate compared to the weather in the regular weather outdoors. Plus the hamster can further regulate their temperature by going lower or higher under ground, depending on the outside conditions. Thus the longer tail for temperature regulation in the mouse allows them to live in much more diverse environments. Burrowing in the paper bedding allows the hamster to regulate and control their temperature in a domestic environment but only to a very small degree compared to the wild.
Love this video topic!! I have hamsters now and adore them, but I'm thinking of turning one of my past hamster's enclosure into a mouse enclosure someday in the far future. I adore them too and would love to try keeping them. But keeping a social species does always stress me out as if one passes you may have to find the remaining one/s a companion. Hamsters are easier in that way since they like being companionless!

I’ve never owned mice, but my vote is hamster, for just overall cuteness and ease of handling. I love to see them pouch and burrow and explore. As an adult I like that they sleep all day and I can visit with them in the evening! My hamsters have been good company! Very therapeutic during times of stress.

I have two hamsters and one of them is a dwarf. When my family members and friends see her, they think she is a mouse now I can tell them the difference between them. Thank you!
mice actually enjoy burrowing too! they should have 4 inches minimum of bedding :) male mice need to be alone, or they will also fight. male mice can live with female ASFs though because they can't mate. also, kiln dried pine bedding is okay for mice, but not for hamsters! and, paper bedding is okay for hamsters but not mice!
From my experience mice are better starter pets, when i had mice they never bit me and would never try escape but each hamster ive owned has at least bit me once. Mice are also easier to care for since they can climb
I saw you’re video about the detolf hamster enclosure and I am close to convincing my parents to buy it. My cage right now is too small I only bought it because it was cheap and from the pet store. It’s time to upgrade!
In my experience, mice tend to make more mess, and there cage might smell worse because you have to get a few of them (since there social animals), but both hamsters and mice are very clean, often grooming themselves throughout the day, with designated bathroom spots!
@@Nova_tries_to_draw I had a hamster many years ago and while he used keep himself and his hair clean, he also used to store both food and poop... together!! And in his sleeping place!! But at least, his excrements were hard "objects" which didn't smear everything they touched, so at least that part has handeable. When I let my hamster out of his cage he pooped once or twice on the floor but fortunately that was a rare occurrence, so overall I would say he was a rather clean animal. How are mice in these regards?
I've kept many mice and hamsters over the years. I personally like mice more. I find that mice have more of a personality over hamsters. However keeping male mice together can be quite challenging at times.
Ly Victoria!! When I first discovered hamsters my friends and parents would call them rats/mice. After a year of having hamsters my friends and family don’t make fun of em anymore, I honestly don’t know why people make fun of rats and mice? Btw how was the hamster fair?? ❤
I think there is a huge prejudice towards mice and rats - especially rats. This is because they are commonly viewed as pests. I understand that they can cause a lot of destruction and are often vectors for disease but that's no reason to decide they don't deserve to be treated with compassion. Inhumane kill traps such as glue traps are starting to be banned in certain places now, which is great. I don't understand what's so difficult about a catch and release trap. Catch the mouse, release it somewhere safe but far away from your home. If a home is regularly getting pests, maybe people should look into why that is rather than hurting an innocent creature that is just trying to survive. I am fascinated by all rodents, so far I've owned hamsters and guinea pigs but one day I'd love to have mice or rats.
Yeah I just got hamsters about three months ago and people ask me about them referring to them as rats. I think it’s that passive mockery based on some preconceived notion they’re “lessor” pets than say cats or dogs. Usually that just stops if you shows you’re undeterred by their shortcomings and it’s obvious in your enthusiasm. That’s been my counter push showing people my new creativity and willingness to go further for this “lessor” pet than most would for their own cats and dogs.
Hi Victoria Im so happy to say after watching almost all your videos on repeat 😂 I have finally decided to get my first ever hamster at 19 I'm so happy that I've done my research first and I'm glad to be able to provide for them properly is thanks to you ❤
Hi Victoria! Your videos have helped so much, my first hamster will have an amazing life when i get it (next year) . And its all because of your videos!!!❤
Just a warning, I’ve owned both mice and hamsters, and mice are definitely more smelly since they can’t control where they urinate and so just keep that in mind.
I currently have 3 hamsters, 1 cat and 2 mice I put signs on top of their cages saying their name and breed since sometimes my friends think my hamsters are mice and mice are hamsters.
I remember when I first got my hamster, after watching all your videos I finally convinced my mom to get one. Sadly he passed away around 1 year ago. He lived 2 years tho which I find really long for a hamster.
hey, i have a quick question for hamster owners, I just got my hamster, and I'm gonna leave it for 2 - 3 days (but still give it food) I was wondering if I could use gloves while taming it because I can't really afford getting bitten.
Thanks for the great content. What about the diseases? Which one has a hogher chance of transmitting diseases to the owner? And which one can have more serious ones?
The 20th century, I was researching a mixture of mouse & hamster but I can't seem to locate it on this channel. I literary found one and it looked like it was wearing a fur coat, it did not look like a good mix, just sharing.
I had mice before & I enjoyed them a lot bc they woke up earlier. It’s also cool to see them in groups doing their thing. The smell is what turns me off. Mice are more pungent, they can’t help it. I think rodents in general are very misunderstood as pets for adults. They’re often looked at as pets for kids but they require so much care, they’re great for adults, w a kiddo to help, or no kids.
I’ve had hamsters and currently I have 3 female mice which are so fun to watch , when they are awake it’s a non stop show Female mice don’t have potent smell and it’s different compared to males I do love both
We have 3 pet hamster species with stripes on their backs-Chinese, Campbell's, and Winter White. Winter White and Campbell's can interbreed but it's not recommended. Otherwise you can't breed two species of hamsters. The hybrid-between Winter White and Campbell's-has stripes on their backs. The Roborovski is very tiny and doesn't have the stripe like the Campbell's, White and the hybrid. It otherwise looks like them and more closely related to them than they do Chinese and Syrian hamsters.
im so happy you made this video, ive been wanting to get a mouse for a while ive only ever owned hamsters and ive done a lot of research on them i learned a lot from this that i wouldnt have found easily from google for example you say mice should have the same large cage that hamsters need where as google will say you only need something like 100sq inches of floor space per mouse

Do you lower the protein % for hamsters older than 6 months and then again at 18 months. We feed Marazi rat and mouse blocks so protein is 23%. What do you feed and do you change it as they get older?
I love owning hamsters but I slowly want to transition to owning mice and see how different is owning a mice for my hamster and see how I like the experience and have a little companion that has a longer tail and one question is the preview 528 a good cage house a mice
I've owned Hamsters, Gerbils and now mice. Mice like to climb, so they use more of the height space my Linmonn. I'd love to own gerbils again though to see the burrows they would make! Perhaps I will when there are no more mice left to adopt at my local rescue after my current colony of mice pass away.
I need help because I'm planning to get a hamster again but I started using these reed diffusers from a brand called rituals, does anyone know if it is safe to have them both in the same room?

Why does my robovroski hamster bite my fingers instead of eating the food on my hand. I have only raised him for 5 days only, the first three day he is scared, the subsequent day he is less scared but as I mentioned above, it’s still weird too me. How should I tame him better to make him feel safe around me. He is 3 month old, male gender, he also usually sleep 15-16 hours a day, is that normal. Appreciate if someone can answer this question ❤
Hi Victoria❤ your one of my fav UA-camrs and I love your videos❤ you helped me find what I love ❤️ if I never watched ur videos I probably wouldn’t have any hamster and wouldn’t knowwhat I want to work with (pets)❤ have a great day❤️😃
I messaged on insta but no response - I’ve got a recent hamster after my last one passed of old age and the new hamster just ain’t cooperating it’s been 4-5 weeks now and we’ve tried everything but he just doesn’t want to go near us, he’s such a shy hamster and scared of us and we don’t know how to wean him into knowing us. Our last hamster we had no problems but this one is starting (let me make the picture clear quickly) I built a cage and he is sleeping in the last compartment and has now started to cover his only hole to get to “us” as he’s that scared of us he wants to block the only entrance that he knows so we can’t get to him but we’ve been nothing but leaving him alone est nothing out the ordinary to make him scared of us any suggestions to what we can do? X
Great video with science based facts! However, while it may be true that inbreeding has negatively affected the lifespan of captive mice and hamsters, they do naturally have a short lifespan in the wild. They have a high metabolism and along with their incredibly fast and efficient reproduction this often goes hand in hand with a shorter lifespan.

Hi Victoria. I have 2 hamsters and one of them is a dwarf. Whenever my family members or friends see her they think she is a mouse. Now I can tell them the difference between them. Thank you
it always makes my day when you post!! thank you for making my hams happy!! when i take out my hamster olaf, we always watch your videos!!

Emi's mice making an appearance!
Your hair looks so pretty! ❤
Your hair is so pretty 😍!!!!!!
My aunt used to always say “do you still have those rats” rip my hamsters will love yall forever
mice actually enjoy burrowing too! they should have 4 inches minimum of bedding :) male mice need to be alone, or they will also fight. male mice can live with female ASFs though because they can't mate. also, kiln dried pine bedding is okay for mice, but not for hamsters! and, paper bedding is okay for hamsters but not mice!
I wish hamsters and rats could live longer, I love them so much!😢❤
She is the best hamster owner. Who agrees?
Me!!!

You should seriously write a book. Your experience and knowledge are so vast.
Thank you for this video! I have been taking care of hamsters but have not in a while. Thinking of caring for mice maybe sometime in the future!
From my experience mice are better starter pets, when i had mice they never bit me and would never try escape but each hamster ive owned has at least bit me once. Mice are also easier to care for since they can climb
Personally, I’m more of a mouse person. I’ve never owned a hamster but I love how mice climb all over!
I saw you’re video about the detolf hamster enclosure and I am close to convincing my parents to buy it. My cage right now is too small I only bought it because it was cheap and from the pet store. It’s time to upgrade!
As someone who has owned both mice and hamsters I can confidently say they are VERY different both are amazing pets though.
Ive had hamsters and mice. I prefer mice because they are always awake it seems and they are so chaotic
@@LocalPickles Yes! They are definitely more chaotic and good at making quick work of messing up a freshly cleaned cage 😂
@@Nova_tries_to_draw are mice dirtier?
Your hair looks so pretty! 😊
I currently have 3 hamsters, 1 cat and 2 mice I put signs on top of their cages saying their name and breed since sometimes my friends think my hamsters are mice and mice are hamsters.
I LOVE hamsters, but I was thinking of getting my first mice, this video really helped me decide to do so! Thank you 🙂
I remember when I first got my hamster, after watching all your videos I finally convinced my mom to get one.
Looking forward to seeing you at the hamster fair today xxx
Awesome~👍
Thank you for sharing this informative video~🤗
My friend mistaken my robo hamster for a mouse, I’m surprised he forgot that mice have long tails and hamsters don’t 😂
I've had just about all types of hamsters and I really like the teddy bear the most! You're beautiful by the way!
Thanks for the great content. What about the diseases? Which one has a hogher chance of transmitting diseases to the owner? And which one can have more serious ones?
Hi Victoria! I love your videos and they have taught me a lot.
I’ve had hamsters and currently I have 3 female mice which are so fun to watch , when they are awake it’s a non stop show
Female mice don’t have potent smell and it’s different compared to males
I do love both
We have 3 pet hamster species with stripes on their backs-Chinese, Campbell's, and Winter White.
I have 2 pet mice and they are the sweetest their names are Lucy and Poppy 🥰
Victoria I think your videos are so awesome and before I watched your videos I was gonna put my hamster in a small tube cage one of those critter trails but now I seen your videos I my hamsters now on a dry enormous a cage so I think your videos are awesome and he started my hamster nuggets started with eight inch wheel but now he has a 12 inch
What a GREAT video idea! 🙌🙌
I've never owned a hamster but have always wanted to get one! I have mice and they are the cutest little animals ever :)
Excellent video🥰☺️‼️
Do you lower the protein % for hamsters older than 6 months and then again at 18 months. We feed Marazi rat and mouse blocks so protein is 23%. What do you feed and do you change it as they get older?
I love owning hamsters but I slowly want to transition to owning mice and see how different is owning a mice for my hamster and see how I like the experience and have a little companion that has a longer tail and one question is the preview 528 a good cage house a mice
Second!! Appreciate all you do for us Victoria!! ❤
I have two guinea pigs and people call them hamsters.... like they are nothing alike except for being a rodent.
Hi Victoria I love your videos so much
Hello Victoria! Sorry for the weird UA-cam account but this is my brothers from years ago😂 I am 10 and love hamsters, I have had 3 hamsters in my lifetime. My first one was called Ledo and was a Syrian I had when I was VERY young (about 2) and was unfortunately not cared for correctly , so my parents re-homed him. Then, on my 3rd or 4th birthday I got a female Syrian who was housed in a critter trail with no enrichment AT ALL 😭 She was called Sarah-Sniffles and was very overwhelmed when we moved house from Cardiff city to Jersey Channel Islands so died shortly after😭 Then when I was about 7 or 8 I got a winter white dwarf with bright red eyes, who I named Tiddles ☺️ and for the beginning of her life she lived in the exact same cage shown in the beginning of a your hamster care throughout the years video, then, thankfully I stumbled across your channel and spent the next few months hardly leaving my room so I could learn about Hello Victoria! Then I taught my cousins and family with hamsters everything I knew, so their two hamsters ( Kiki and Lenny☺️) lived for ages until the hamster died of a brain tumour. Since then, years and months have passed, and now I am 10 and am very interested in looking after a hamster again, and have seen a Russian female one who is not properly cared for, who I would like to help, but I have a budget, and was wondering if you could recommend any places in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧/ Jersey Channel Islands where you can get hamster supplies for a decent price?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this comment,

Hi Victoria can u pls make a v about kumaQQ its about hamsters😊
❤first love you so kuch Olivia
You really know what do to and take really good care of your animals and your voice 😍
Hamsters💕…but will not deny both hamsters and mice are adorable! Who can resist the twitchy noses and whiskers!
Aww there Soo cute victory’s Rachel Can u do another video of dollar treat pleasss
Hamsters are generally loners.
Me too, hammies, me too.
this is a helpful video! I recently lost my hamster and now i am getting mice!
Thank you for explanation
Hi Victoria,so my hamster Teddy has been losing hair lately and I'm very worried about him.Can u pls tell me what it means? 😢

Hi Victoria❤ your one of my fav UA-camrs and I love your videos❤ you helped me find what I love ❤️ if I never watched ur videos I probably wouldn’t have any hamster and wouldn’t knowwhat I want to work with (pets)❤ have a great day❤️😃
I have been preparing for a hamster for 3 months and today i bought it and it immediately running to me
Congratulations bru
hi Victoria! my hamster (ginny) is nearly two and looks way older. she has got barely any fur on her back. is this just old age?
Although i don’t have a pet hamster anymore I still love to watch your videos!!
I love them both!😊🐹🐁💗
I messaged on insta but no response - I’ve got a recent hamster after my last one passed of old age and the new hamster just ain’t cooperating it’s been 4-5 weeks now and we’ve tried everything but he just doesn’t want to go near us, he’s such a shy hamster and scared of us and we don’t know how to wean him into knowing us. X
Is beech chips safe for hamsters ?
❤❤❤Love your channel! Hamster all the way!
Day 2 of telling Victoria to have a great day ❤❤
i have hamster which is Dzungaria hamster and she changed colour and im scared is it normal?
Great video with science based facts! However, while it may be true that inbreeding has negatively affected the lifespan of captive mice and hamsters, they do naturally have a short lifespan in the wild. They have a high metabolism and along with their incredibly fast and efficient reproduction this often goes hand in hand with a shorter lifespan.
I have a question how much bedding do you need if your room is kinda hot
Hello Vitoria! I just wanted to ask how many table spoons of food should I scatter on my hamster cage is one table spoon good enough?
(Btw I have not gotten a hamster yet and planning on getting one. I was thinking of Roborovski Hamster)
Someone called my hamster a rat the other day and I’m suppressed they don’t know the difference 😢
