Thank you, I have been trying brioche x 3wks. Used the yarn to bloom. Your vid was the only one who said to keep the yarn forward. That was the key. I have watched a dozen vids. Your’s was the best.now my work actually look brioche.
Awesome. I will be trying this soon as I'm finishing the scarf. First project in the round. I don't know if it's just my UA-cam acting funny, but I think you repeat row 1 in the video. Thank you!
Thanks! Happy that you are going to try this hat. And yes, this video had a glitch where same row was repeated. Check out my reboot video of the 2-color brioche hat at ua-cam.com/video/OMyNXgGlfdI/v-deo.html. I demo it in 2 colors but you can use just 1 color and follow the same technique. The video for decreases for this hat is at ua-cam.com/video/EFOCUxh-WiA/v-deo.html. Hope this helps but let me know if you have questions. Thanks and best wishes for your project 😊
Thanks, Dee! I had actually made drapes out of that tapestry-like fabric and figured it works great as a backdrop for my knitting videos. I have since changed the background to a darker shade as helps with the lighting when I record my videos in the evenings, but I still have that fabric and hope to use it again on future videos. A quick point about this 1-color brioche hat video: there is bit of a video repeat of the 1st row and that might be confusing. I have just now posted a new one-color brioche hat video with a slight pattern change and detailed step-by-step instructions, including the hat decreases (check out: ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html). The new video is a bit longer, but wanted to demonstrate as many of the steps so that it can be helpful. Hoping to post a 2-color brioche hat video soon too. Thanks for watching my video! Cheers (:
So glad you liked it, Allie. I really enjoyed knitting these hats. Hoping to post a 2-color brioche hat tutorial in the next couple weeks. Thanks for watching my video and best wishes😊
Thank you for making the written instructions for the brioche hat crown visible to me. I am working the two color brioche hat. I have now torn out back to the life line (thank goodness you suggested it) 3 times. How do you work over 3 needles equally when I started with 70 stitches...an even number. Wouldn't it be better to use an even number that can be divided evenly by 3?? Now I have one extra stitch that I can't figure out how to make it fit the visual pattern (which I love) of the top of the hat. I always end up with one column which goes straight up without merging into another same color column. Sorry to be such a dumbbell...would appreciate any help you can give regarding this problem.
Thanks! This video unfortunately has a section repeated (inadvertently). Please check out my rebooted one-color brioche video at ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html. Thanks for watching and best wishes! Happy holidays😀
Hi Cynthea, yes, actually I did a new (reboot) video of the 1-color hat (check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html). The green banded hat in this video is just a 1-color hat, where I changed colors after each band (but at any given row, knitting with just one color). Hope the reboot video is helpful and let me know if you have questions. Thanks for watching and best wishes😊
Check out my video on how to join yarn at ua-cam.com/video/vP_Q_WVKG4o/v-deo.html. You would use the same technique to join yarn here (since I knit the hat in bands, have to cut off one yarn when joining the next and then have to weave the yarn tails in). It sounds more complicated than it really is. I hope you can give it a try. Thanks so much for watching! Best wishes😊
Hi Sharon, good question. Check out my chevron blanket video at ua-cam.com/video/LBB_RWA4Zfs/v-deo.html. At 5:20 of the video, I show how to knit in the front and back of same stitch (this parts last from 5:20-6:20 in the video). I will plan to do a separate video on showing just how to do a KFB (knit front back), but for now, hope this helps😊 Thanks for watching and best wishes!
Hi Sharon, check out the short video (less than a min) I just posted on how to knit into front and back of one stitch. Hope this helps (ua-cam.com/users/shortsWIBA1gPoJ10?feature=share).
I have tried this several times and cannot get the look. Yet I can do the flat with no problem. When I do the setup it is skip yarn over then p correct...then the 1 roll is the knit,(brk) then the second is the p and so forth. I cannot seem to get this. Help. What could I be doing wrong. Love your video. Thank you. i am going to try one more time. I really want to make this hat.
Thanks for watching the video, Vikki, and for your comments. So sorry that this was giving you hard time. Actually, your comment brought to light for me a couple issues with the video (there is actually a repeat of part of Row 1 in the video, which I didn't realize before; totally my bad). Also, the end of Row 2 could have been clearer and I realize now (thanks to your comment) that it might have confusing. To fix this, I have now actually uploaded a new video of my one-color brioche hat pattern, with a much more detailed description of the pattern and stepwise instructions in the video itself (it is a longer video, but hopefully will be more helpful). Check it out at: ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html. Hope you try it and let me know if you still have questions. I am so happy again that you reached out; it gave me a chance to reboot this video. Appreciate your support. Happy knitting! (:
change in-between rounds drove me crazy until I figured it out - If your round ends with a yo/slip 1, your next round starts with a yo/slip 1. If your row ends with BRP, your next round starts with BRK. At least that works for me!
I AM THAT I AM At the start (after casting on), you only need to do the set-up row once, then do rows 1 and 2 and keep repeating rows 1 and 2 until you reach the decrease rows (per the pattern noted in the drop done description field). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching my video😊
Thanks, Doreen!
Hi Ruth, there is no link. I have added the pattern details in description field of video. However, suggest checking out my other brioche hat video (a reboot) at ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html. It too has the pattern in description (click the small drop down triangle below the video). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and best wishes😊
Heyy.. knittycat's knits Mam from where I ll get these circular needles..? Coz mam on internet I m not getting these needles according to ur instructions..so mam plzzz help me to get these needles..!!
Hi Sanjay, I would think they should be available in Amazon or other retailers, but I guess it depends where you are located. If you can't find circular needles, you can still knit a hat like this using double-pointed needles. They usually come in packs of 4 or 5 (you at least need 4 needles) and each needle is about 7 in or so in length. And they come in same needle sizes (mm) as regular or circular knitting. Hope you can find at least find these where you are located. Thanks for watching and best wishes!😊
Good question. For the project and pattern I've posted, you do need circular needles because it is knit in the round (actually see my reboot video of that at: ua-cam.com/video/OMyNXgGlfdI/v-deo.html). However, you could use straight needles and knit it in the flat and the seam the edges to form the hat; would suggest looking at my 1-color brioche scarf video to knit on straight needles (see at ua-cam.com/video/4E0rLm3_jXU/v-deo.html). The only thing is the decreases shown in my pattern may not exactly work. I will plan to do a brioche hat knit with straight needles video in the upcoming weeks and hope that will help. Thanks for watching my video and best wishes!😊
Thanks, Anne. Because this video had a couple issues, I recently posted a reboot of this hat tutorial (check out: ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html). Also, if you want to check out all my project videos, click on ua-cam.com/users/knittycatsknits and it should show you all my videos posted so far (only started a couple years ago, so only have a small collection so far, but hoping you can find some fun project videos). Do let me know if you have suggestions for projects. Thanks for supporting my channel. Happy knitting! (:
Allo Superbe vos tricots ,est-ce possible de nous donner le nombre de mailles et quelle grandeur d’aiguilles pour ces modèles , en français ce serait très apprécié.Merci
B Nel Yes, it is an adult size hat about 18-19 in with the yarn I used. The brioche stitch stretches and I wanted a snug fit to the beanie. If you want a looser fit, can try increasing by anout 4 st (gauge for the yarn I used was about 4 st = 1 in). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching the video!
Why do you have to start out with purl instead of knit like your scarf? I’m knitting your Brioche scarf with Patons Classic Wool Roving bulky 5 yarn and would like to make this hat to match. I’ve never used circular needles, but would like to learn. Also, I’m having problems with joining new yarn on my scarf. I would sure appreciate any help you can give me. I’m making this for an 6’4 man. My scarf is going to be 72” long. I,m almost half done. I already have joined one new ball and it seemed to be fine, but now I don’t know how I did it. I also don’t know the front from the back, so I don’t know what side to weave my ends’ in. Please help me if you can. I thought it was you who showed me how to join yarn, but I could never find it again. Thank You so much for what you have taught me. I think your a great teacher!!
+Marilyn Reasons Great question, Marilyn! The reason there is a difference in the 1-color brioche pattern when knit in the round (with circular needles) versus knitting flat (like the scarf) is that in circular knitting, we keep knitting on the same side. In flat knitting, once a row is done, we turn the work and knit on the other side. So we can just do a knit (as in BRK) on each side. But with circular, you have to alternate a knit (BRK) with a purl (BRP) on each row. Hope that makes it a bit clear. I plan to upload my 2- color brioche hat video tutorial later in the week and will try to clarify this in that video. I am so happy to hear that your brioche scarf is almost done. Check out my joining yarn video (ua-cam.com/video/vP_Q_WVKG4o/v-deo.html). To join yarn, just make a loop (no slip knot) and start knitting. Leave at least a 4 inch tail of the previous yarn to weave them in. Hope the yarn joining video helps 😊 Thanks for watching and reaching out with comments/questions! Let me know if you have more. Happy kniiting!
Knittycat's Knits I tried to put in your code but it said 404 not found. I tried again by leaving the period between tu.be still didn’t work. Is there another way to go to your adding a knew ball in brioche knit scarf? Thank you for responding so quick to my questions.
Marilyn Reasons Hi Marilyn, sorry the link didn't work. Not sure why. Here is the link again: maybe try clicking on link directly to see if it works ua-cam.com/video/vP_Q_WVKG4o/v-deo.html Another way would be to just search in UA-cam with the following words: joining yarn knittycat's knits. It should bring up the video. If not, in Google, if you search for same words, should bring up UA-cam video. Hope it works.
Yea! I have finished your hat🤗 It is so much fun and the hat is super soft and warm. How do you add a new color like you did ? I can't thank you enough. You are such a grand teacher! 👍❤️ Your friend Jan Clawson
Janet Clawson That's awesome, Jan! For your question on changing colors, check out my video I posted just now on how to do join yarn (link: ua-cam.com/video/mh0JKJTtC6g/v-deo.html). Been meaning to post this, but your question finally got me to record and post it (: Thanks for watching and post if you have questions. Enjoy the weekend!

Hi Cynthea, yes, actually I did a new (reboot) video of the 1-color hat (check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html). Thanks for tutorial, I thought the pattern would be on 2 pins I've never knitted in the round ..kind regards Barb
Your pattern does it make a hat for an adult? 20-21 inch? On Size 3 needle?

It's worsted weight yarn on much smaller needles and the pattern is stretchy. It should fit an adult head fine.
