Your video is very great, and you are such a very nice teacher! I am working on a brioche stitch, but the version that I'm working on is a little different from yours. But still , eventually, I can give this a try--I will put this video in my 'watch later' list. Thank you so much for your wonderful presentation! You always do such great work, and I tell by your kind and caring voice!
Thank you. I was trying to follow a couple of others but was unable to follow them. You took it nice a easy and explained everything very well. I finally got it!!! Again thank you
barbara wardle Excellent! So happy you gave this a try. I absolutely love this stitch. . Have fun knitting the scarf. Let me know if you have questions or would like me to do a specific knitting demo.
What a beautiful stitch and also a very easy to understand instruction. I saw a pattern on Ravelry and passed it by because the written instructions seemed so complicated. This makes me want to make a scarf right away!
Thanks so much for watching and the lovely comments, Janie! Yes, brioche can be confusing in written patterns, especially when trying to read the brioche charts. Happy you liked the stitch and do give it a try. Would suggest adding in proactive lifelines as you work on your project (for my video on this, click ua-cam.com/video/hLdNBLuC1sY/v-deo.html). Happy knitting and best wishes!😊
Thank You! You made it look so easy. I want to start a man’s scarf tomorrow. What size yarn should I use and how many stitches wide? I want it at least 60 inches long. The man I’m making it for is about 6’4. I hope you can give me an up’s on this.Would really appreciate if you could. Thank you so much for sharing
+Marilyn Reasons Hi Marilyn, thanks for watching my video and for your question. Sorry for my delayed reply; been a busy week. Since different yarns and needle sizes will produce a scarf of varying width, would suggest first picking the yarn you like (a wool or wool bllend would be nice). Then you can pick a pair of needles (4 to 6 mm size, which would be US sizes 6, 7, or 8), and make a small swatch (cast about 15 sts and follow the pattern, making a piece at least a couple inches long). That will give you an idea as to how wide a piece 15 sts will give you. If it gives you a width of about 2 inches, then you will need to cast on 45 sts (3 × 15 sts) to get a scarf 6 inches wide. Increasing the needle size, will give you a wider swatch and decreasing will give you a smaller swatch. The length of the scarf you can decide as you knit. Hope this helps and you knit up a wonderful man's scarf. Reach out if you have more questions. Happy Knitting!😊
Great video....first brioche stitch that I could follow easily. Your voice is beautiful and you explain the pattern so well. I can't wait to try it. Thanks!
Thank you. There's a stitch that is indistinguishable to this, at least with my yarn, that's much easier. Just repeat k1, k1b for the entire project. I'm currently working on both, simultaneously, with the same yarn. No difference. The advantage to the other stitch is that there are no yarn overs or slips or differences at ends of rows. The advantage to this one is you can read your stitches and know where you are.
Great point! That other stitch you mention (with the k1b) is Fisherman's rib (I call it Brioche's cousin but perhaps Brioche's twin may be a better nickname for it). 😊
+donna van dalen Also, if you wish to try the 1-color brioche pattern in a hat, please check out my tutorial on that: ua-cam.com/video/ww2Bf75h_8A/v-deo.html.
Hi Anita, check out my brioche stitch hat video at ua-cam.com/video/OMyNXgGlfdI/v-deo.html (there is also a pattern included in the description field of the video; it shows a 2-color hat video but you can use the same pattern for a 1-color hat). Hey this video is awesome! I watched it a few weeks ago and I've already made 2 cowl scarves, resulting from how easy you made it to learn the stitch. You rock!
Thanks for the lovely comments, Sarah! So hapoy to hear that you used this stitch for your cowl scarves. Wear (or share) them proudly. Thanks for watching my videos! Best wishes!😊
So sorry. Sadly, I've been there lots of times with lace patterns; laziness to put in a lifeline gets me sometimes. But they are timesavers, especially with finicky stitches like Brioche o Fisherman's rib. Hope the rest of the project is all smooth sailing.
That's awesome, Elaine! Thanks so much for watching and even better, trying it out. If you are looking for another brioche project, check out the 2-color brioche video (link: ua-cam.com/video/QGyeyWMnqi0/v-deo.html) or the 1-color brioche hat video (link: ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html). Thank you very much for this video ! I am French and I live in France so apologise my bad English ! I found another stitch that looks a bit like the brioche stitch but it's easier : You put the the stitches on the needle and then knit : 2 stitch , 2 pearl, 2 stitch, 2 pearl and so on ! You must end with 1 stitch. You repeat always this row !! You will see ; it's very close to the brioche stitch ; we in France call it " the false brioche stitch" ! Many kind greetings from Brittany - France !
+Marie Merci beauoup! Votre anglais est parfait. I am hoping to learn French in the next year; for now, I speak very little of it, but can read and understand it a little better. Merci aussi for sharing the false brioche stitch pattern. I will give it a try for sure. Happy holidays et Joyeux Noel!
If I'm using 12ply yarn 5.5mm needles how many stitches should I cast on to knit a scarf? You have explained so well, so I want to try this. I'm a beginner.
Thanks, Prasanna, and welcome to the knitting community! Good question! The best way to know the number of stitches to cast on for a scarf if to determine the gauge by knitting a small swatch (sample). Please see my video on how to this at ua-cam.com/video/OcH0elMUdxo/v-deo.html. Hopefully this helps but let me know if you still have questions. Thanks so much for watching and best wishes for the project!🤗
hi knitty cat! your video is amazing and you're a great teacher. i followed this step by step tutorial and i know now how to bark. my 1-color edging is perfect as well. now, i am attempting to make a 2-color brioche pattern. but the edging is kinda weird. so i thought of reviewing the instructions. i belatedly noticed that there is an extra yo in the set up row (which is not in the 1-color step by step tutorial.) am i missing something which can explain why my edging is off? thank you so much.
Hi Angelita, so happy that this 1-color pattern worked well for you and thanks for your question on the 2-color. I just posted my reply to your comment in that video and hope it helps answer your question. Really appreciate you watching my videos and trying out these patterns. Happy Knitting!
Thanks, Lucy! Yes, you surely can use this one-color brioche pattern for a hat. I just posted a video on knitting the one-color brioche hat (ua-cam.com/video/Ja59rOERpQ8/v-deo.html); had a previous video on it, but have changed up a pattern a bit, so figured I'd post a new one. If you try the 1-color brioche pattern and enjoy it, check out my 2-color brioche pattern video (link: ua-cam.com/video/QGyeyWMnqi0/v-deo.html). I am working on posting a video soon on the 2-color brioche hat as well. Thanks for watching my video and happy knitting! (:
Thank you mam..very good video ..easily understandable ..I'm new to nutting..still I got the confidence of nutting a scarf..thank you good tutorial..mam can u suggest me how meny basic nots I have to make for a scarf ,using 4 ply yarn?
Thanks, Seshakumari! For knitting a scarf, I would suggest first knitting a small sample using the yarn and needles you want to use. For 4-ply yarn that is worsted weight (or medium), you can use knitting needle sizes 6 (4 mm) or larger. You can cast on say 11 sts and knit the brioche pattern until the work measures about an inch in height. Then, measure the width of the sample. Let's say it measures about 1.5 inches, and say you want a scarf that is 6 inches in width, then you will need to cast on: (6 x 11) ÷ 1.5 = 44 sts, rounding up to 45 sts (since you need odd number of sts for this pattern). If you want a wider scarf, adjust the formula accordingly. Hope this helps answer your question; let me know if you have other questions. Thanks for watching my video and best wishes on the project😊
@@KnittycatsKnits thank you mam..as you said first ,I should try with a sample..thank you once again..here in India that to our place Visakhapatnam, winter is not that much cool..soo I thought of 4 ply..need your help further also..😃
Thank you for your video! I found a Half Cardigan Rib Stitch pattern that was confusing the heck out of me. This isn’t the same pattern, but that first row - you saved me! Thank you!
So happy this helped. So far, I've only knit scarves and hats with this pattern, but would love to try a cardigan someday. Hope you enjoy knitting your project. Thanks for watching and best wishes😊
TYTYTY I finally got it :) Your video was so helpful you made it easy to learn this stitch. Now I can make some scarves for charity :) Have the best day ever . :):):)
So happy to hear that Eleanor. And knitting for charity is such a great cause. Thanks for watching the video and your comment. Best wishes and please let me know if you have questions. Happy knitting!
I think you should be able to add a proactive lifeline (video link here: ua-cam.com/video/hLdNBLuC1sY/v-deo.html). It might be a bit more challenging to pick up the stitches, even with a proactive lifeline, but much better than trying to insert a reactive lifeline for the brioche stitch.
Thank you for this great tutorial! Easy to understand! I have a question about making this stitch into an infinity scarf. I want the stitch to run horizontally when worn. I was going to make a scarf and join the ends. What is the best way to join the ends? Should I use a provisional cast on?
Thanks, Colleen! Glad you want to try this for a project. I think using a provisional cast on will work just fine and then you can join the ends using the Kitchener stitch (can check out my provisional cast-on video at: ua-cam.com/video/AR--2_J9k9o/v-deo.html and my Kitchener stitch video at: ua-cam.com/video/ffAvzfhnOeg/v-deo.html). After you finish knitting to the length that you need, you can just do a "k1, p1" in the last row (just so that you end up non-brioche stitches in the final live stitches when you join them). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and best wishes (:
I finally got knitting on even flow with my sample. Like Erin 'only video that made sense'. What happens if a stitch is dropped ? I accidently dropped a stitch end R 2 second before last stitch and screwed up. Had to start all over with my sample. Would you please show us a 'how to fix' . Thank you .
WENDY BARBAS Thanks, Wendy! And yes, dropping stitches can be a pain, especially with Brioche knitting. I hope to create and post a video in the next couple days on picking up dropped stitches and hoping that will help. Thanks for the idea 😊
This is my first video I've watched from this creator, so idk if they've addressed this in a video, but what I did when I was learning this stitch was use proactive lifelines every repeat, then every other, then every third etc until I was comfortable with the stitch. Just run a piece of contrasting scrap yarn under the bottom of the stitches on the needle using an embroidery needle like you use to weave on your ends. That way if you have to rip back your work you only have to go back a row or 2 and it's much easier to pick the stitches back up.
I love the look of this stitch but I keep messing it up. I must have torn it out in frustration over 40 times!! Your explanations are so clear perhaps you could do a video on repairing slipped stitches, wrong yarn overs; or most importantly how to recognize typical errors. I usually can't recognize the type of error I've made.
Thanks, Lydia! Glad to hear you like the stitch and sorry to hear about the issues. I have done a couple "correcting errors" but not specific to brioche stitch. Will definitely plan to do some very soon. And here's to you mastering this stitch some day soon. Thanks so much for watching and best wishes🤗
Hi again! I can’t find instructions on how to add a knew ball of yarn to my single Brioche scarf. You taught me the pattern and sent me to your instructions on how to add a new ball of yarn, but only for regular knit. I keep messing it up. Please help me. Thank You so much for all your help.
+Marilyn Reasons Hi Marilyn, thanks for your question. I thought it might be helpful to demonstrate joining yarn in brioche and so have just uploaded a video (link: ua-cam.com/video/vZkqGWPwijA/v-deo.html). Hoping you can open link and it helps you continue with your project. But let me know if you have questions. Best wishes!
Thanks for the lovely comment and glad you enjoyed the video, Anne! Hope you give this pattern a try and do let me know if you have questions as you work through it. Best wishes (:
Hi @kayceegreer4418, am not understanding your question. Are you asking if you can use this pattern to knit something around waist or wrist (like a waistband or wristband). Please clarify and will try to answer. Thanks!
Thank you for including the pattern. It was immeasurably helpful! One thing that was confusing was on the setup row. After the yf, sl1 you say yo then knit. What I found confusing was that the yarn position after the yf, sl1 WAS in a position that you didn’t need to do an additional yo (as pattern reads), but just knit. Bc of the yarn already being fwd, there is not option but to go around needle to knit, which to me is not a true yarn over. So you see how a person new to the brioche would be confused? This stitch has eluded me for a long time & I’m determined to get it. Also it is so confusing because so many different patterns out there that are different. I’ve also noticed this with Fishermen’s Rib. Again, I learn so well from you and I have liked and subscribed. Thank you🙏🏻🙂🥢🧶
Thanks so much, Debbie! I totally missed responding to your comment. I am so glad you found this video useful and I can see why it can be confusing. When I posted this, I had recently learned brioche after a long struggle myself, but now am very comfortable with this stitch. I am sure you will get there too. And yes, some UA-cam videos on the brioche stitch actually show the Fisherman's rib, which has a similar look but is different (you can check out my 1-color Fisherman's rib video at ua-cam.com/video/xiNZMcTCKgM/v-deo.html). For the brioche stitch, yes, agree that you don't need to another "yarn over". A better way for the pattern would be to say "sl 1 st with yarn forward" (or sl1wyf as the abbreviation). That way, the yarn position is in the front when you slip the stitch and then when you go to do the BRK, it creates the brioche stitch (so no additional yarn over needed). Hope this helps (: Thanks for watching and best wishes!
Hi Grace, I used US size 9 needles (5.5 mm) for the scarf. Not sure of the ply of the Lion Brand Scarfie yarn I used, but it is considered bulky weight (has a hand-spun look). Details of pattern are in the video description. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and best wishes!
barbara wardle That's a great idea! I have not made a brioche pattern hat, but would be a good one to try. Thanks for the suggestion, Barbara. I hope to post a tutorial on that soon.
Hi Barbara, I just uploaded a tutorial for a simple 1-color brioche hat (ua-cam.com/video/ww2Bf75h_8A/v-deo.html). Check it out and let me know if you have questions, comments. Happy knitting (:
@@KnittycatsKnits Hi, nicely explained video. I am bit confused as I wanted to make brioche stitch hat, on circular needless. There it's says we have to cast even no. of stitches. I am getting confused as in this video it's odd no.of stitches. Can you please explain the difference and also pattern seems to be done differently for brioche knitted hat
Thanks for watching and for the question, Geeta! The reason for an odd number of stitches when knitting brioche in the flat (like for the scarf) is so that we can get the knit stitch edge. When knitting in the round (like for the hat), you don't need this extra stitch, so you need to cast on an even number of stitches. Also, the pattern is different when knitting 1-color brioche flat vs round is because in flat, we keep turning work after each row in the flat version, but in the round version, we are knitting on the same side of the work. So we have to 2 different rows (after set up row) and it involves a brioche purl (BRP) stitch. Hope this helps, but let me know if you have other questions. Best wishes!😊

Thank you so much for explaining I have watched several others with learning on how to do this stitch and it just wasn’t working for me, so I’m pretty excited to give this a try! More videos plzzzzz I’m a beginner and you explain very well on the process and slower than others which really helps!
Thanks for watching and for the lovely comment, Beth! I am so happy you liked it and hope you fall in love with brioche like I have. If you go to my channel (please subscribe if you haven't), you can check out the other videos I have posted to try out other stitches/projects. I plan to post at least 1 new video each week in the new year. Do message me if you have questions and best wishes😊
You are a fabulous teacher - thanks for your help =)
Thanks, Pam! Glad this was helpful😃 Best wishes!
Best brioche video! Thank you!
Thanks, Jean!😀
Your video is very great, and you are such a very nice teacher! I am working on a brioche stitch, but the version that I'm working on is a little different from yours. But still , eventually, I can give this a try--I will put this video in my 'watch later' list. Thank you so much for your wonderful presentation! You always do such great work, and I tell by your kind and caring voice!
Thanks for the lovely compliments, Patrice! 😊
Thank you, thank you! This made sense and it worked for me! I was going to give up on brioche now I’m loving it!
Beverly Bankston Thanks! Glad it helped. I too am bonkers for brioche 😊
Clear concise and perfectly explained. Just wow!
Thank you. I was trying to follow a couple of others but was unable to follow them. You took it nice a easy and explained everything very well. I finally got it!!! Again thank you
Thanks, Diana! So glad you found this useful. Best wishes😀
Hurray have mastered the brioche stitch thanks for showing the way , trying scarf now ... Kind regards barb
barbara wardle Excellent!
Happy knitting and best wishes!😊

,
I watched so many brioche videos and this was the only one that made sense. Thank you!
Erin Sales Thanks, Erin! Glad you liked it. Do share/post a pic of your project if you make the scarf. Thanks for watching 😊

Thanks!
yorkie11 Thanks so much😊 Happy you liked it.
Thanks , it's a wonderful stitch.
I will make it a scarf.👌👌👌👌👌👌
My pleasure, Poonam! I hope you enjoy knitting the scarf. Thanks for watching and best wishes😃
Nice pattern, thank u for clear instruction and sharing.
Thanks, Parvathi! Glad you liked it. Best wishes (:
We will give it a try, very concise demonstration of how to knit the brioche (BRK) STITCH!

After knitting for over one hour,I made one mistake and had to undo the whole work.
Now I actually realize the value of lifeline video😫😫😫😫😫
So sorry. Sadly, I've been there lots of times with lace patterns; laziness to put in a lifeline gets me sometimes. But they are timesavers, especially with finicky stitches like Brioche o Fisherman's rib. Hope the rest of the project is all smooth sailing.
This is the only video I found on this stitch that made sense and worked out great ...Thankyou 😍

Knit 2, purl 2 is simply a ribbed stitch. The Brioche stitch makes the pattern nicely thick and puffy/cushy . Regular rib is flat with no depth.
Marie thank you for the tip.
Thank you so much for such easily explained brioche. God bless.
Thanks, Judy! Glad you liked it. Best wishes😀

Thanks so much for watching and best wishes for the project!🤗
hi knitty cat! your video is amazing and you're a great teacher. i followed this step by step tutorial and i know now how to bark. my 1-color edging is perfect as well.
now, i am attempting to make a 2-color brioche pattern. but the edging is kinda weird. so i thought of reviewing the instructions. i belatedly noticed that there is an extra yo in the set up row (which is not in the 1-color step by step tutorial.)
am i missing something which can explain why my edging is off? thank you so much.
Hi Angelita, so happy that this 1-color pattern worked well for you and thanks for your question on the 2-color. I just posted my reply to your comment in that video and hope it helps answer your question. Really appreciate you watching my videos and trying out these patterns. Happy Knitting!
U r very good teacher, thanks

Thank you for such clear instructions. I'm going to try a scarf!
+Corliss Seabron Awesome! Thanks for watching. Have fun knitting the scarf (:
I just love your video thank you so much. Can i use this stitches with a hat too.
I too watched many videos of this stitch ,but your video really makes sense, thanks
Thanks, Gurdeep! Hope you enjoy knitting this beautiful stitch.
Thank you!

Excellent tutorial, very easy to understand, Thank You.
Thanks, Carol! Happy you enjoyed it (:
TYTYTY I finally got it :) Your video was so helpful you made it easy to learn this stitch. Now I can make some scarves for charity :) Have the best day ever . :):):)

Do you know if you can put in a life line on this?

I totally agree with the comment below. It's a very easy to understand video and I grasped it in one go!! Thank you so much☺
+Durgesh Singh You are welcome! Thanks for watching the video and hope you enjoyed trying out the pattern 😊
. . . so . . . I could use this as a waist or wrist?
I am knitting this right now along with you😊 But very nervous 🤯😬
Hi! What needle size are you using, and what ply of yarn?
Hi Grace, I used US size 9 needles (5.5 mm) for the scarf. Not sure of the ply of the Lion Brand Scarfie yarn I used, but it is considered bulky weight (has a hand-spun look). Details of pattern are in the video description. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and best wishes!
hi, do you have tutorial for the one colour brioche hat plz
barbara wardle That's a great idea!
