If you find more collectable coins in the future, don't clean them. It will lower the value if they aren't dealt with professionally.

Thank you for being so charismatic. Your magnet fishing videos are what got my daughter and i started in this hobby. we always watch your new videos together.
Looks like some awesome fun! Being a coin collector, I cringed when I saw the electric toothbrush scrubbing away on those coins. To preserve the value and not cause as much damage, you can use a solution of baking soda and vinegar to soak the coins and then run them under tap water to stop the chemical reaction and finally use a fine microfiber cloth to pat them dry making sure not to rub them. If you identify a rare or valuable coin, you can have a dealer send it off to one of the better grading companies for conservation and grading. You will preserve a lot more value. If you see that your treasure is modern pocket change, have at it with your current method. Improper cleaning is considered damage and can significantly reduce the value of your finds. Your $30 coins might only be worth $12 to $15 with the scrub marks and toning. Treasure hunting is fun but preserving its value will make you more money! Seriously awesome fun video! It made me feel like a kid again. Thanks!
Your channel is awesome, thank you for sharing your experiences. As a coin collector and dealer, please never scrub your coins or use abrasive cleaners. It does significant damage to the coin. Use a mild water and do not scrub. You will find significant value to your coins.

G’day mate, I AM so glad you went back too! Please do a video on your mate’s metal artwork!. Do the garbage collectors take away the safes you found? Do they go to landfill or metal scrappers?

The ribbon piece you called a printer cartridge is actually a ribbon from a typewriter. They are the black and red because the black printed the letter when the key was struck. The red side was used to erase (for lack of a better word) a letter if a person made a mistake. It is great to k ow the history of those coins.

No, Chris. The black side of the typewriter ribbon was used for normal typing, but when something needed to be typed in red the ribbon was moved up a notch on the typewrter to use the red side. When a mistake was made it had to be rubbed out with a speciall typewriter rubber. l know this because l am seventy-nine and used to use a real oldfashioned typewriter when l was at work in my young days.

Awesome treasure hunting! You really shouldn't clean coins with a tooth brush though. Other than just rinsing off the mud with no rubbing at all (the sand in the mud will scratch them) you should look into how coins can be cleaned w/o damaging them...shiny is bad. Even microscopic cleaning marks can devalue a coin tremendously. Great video though! Just for future reference...
I hate to bust your balloon but when you cleaned those coins you caused the value for all the coins to drop dramatically. I wish you would have researched caring for coins that have in water for a long time. I did enjoy watching your video

I was waiting for this follow up! So the police as well as Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam confirmed it was stolen there?! How did Hortus Botanicus react to you finding the safe AND the coins? Please keep us updated about the coins/medals. Thanks for the research about the history of them. Can you keep them(how is the netherlands law about this)? From the collectors point of view i am sure the best price you get with a multiple of the usual collectors value would be your own individually signed, framed version, with the original frame-broken or not- inside the new larger frame, with picture from you guys at the canal and some text explaining the background story-year stolen, year found, coins found and number of copies of your limited edtion in text form. This will be a hot limited edition with high value! Would be a nice wall hanger in a collectors floor, at the botanical garden, city hall or just any local patriot or fan of the botanical garden of amsterdam.
