What a piece of art ! Im in love.
The Dutch World Championships, 1985..All TWO STROKES, (DUH, It was 1985) Very good race coverage of the last ten minutes, Also includes a wicked crash with Steve Webster backing it in, HARD
Very clean bikes, I got to spend a couple of hours on an already out dated Kaw 1000 side hack, We were in a new parking lot for a truck stop with not a bump in it. This was 1993. My friend was a bit unpredictable as the pilot, Almost spitting Me off 3 times, I took over as pilot & w/ our agreed line We were to run on, It was WFO all the way! 10 to 15 laps each time, Smooth, Fast & FUN play day! PS, I was taught how to safety wire by a dirt track legend & I will be glad to share a tip U may like
Sorry the original audio got removed while trying different things with the settings. There weren't much 2 stroke sounds, only the sound of the German Superbikes going around Sachsenring. Awesome side cars, glad you all like them, I appreciate the views..
I think I just fell in love!
I've raced a 250GP bike (TZ250) and that was a handful. 1000 2T? Holy fuck.
@SPOOKSTR
- Just because it's a 2 stroke doesn't mean it has to so highly tuned the rider ends up feeling it's like trying to ride an electric light switch where it's either on or off. After all many excellent trials bikes are strokers. Generally the larger the capacity the softer state of tune you can have to make it more drivable. Smaller capacity 2 stroke engines used on the road tend to be more highly tuned but then they make less horse power. So it tends to be "horses for courses".
I had a Beckett tuned Yam 350LC with his pipes & because every one else wanted a "wheelie machine" the choice was take it or leave it! I didn't mind it "coming on the pipe" strongly as I knew that was @ 7.5K. The problem was even in a low 1st gear it stalled @ 3K as if the ignition had been switched off ! Fortunately a couple of minor upgrades solved that -
1) I changed from stainless steel reed petals to fibre glass 1s to give better long term protection for the engine - & @ that time the word was glass fibre petals worked better on tuned engines.
2) Fitted a "boost bottle"/ Helmholtz Resonator which changes the fuel-air mix from a too rich-too lean sine wave to a straight line gives cleaner carburation & about 10% better fuel economy!
Put together that stalling @ 3K was gone & out of curiosity in top gear & applying the brakes I could force it down to 1.8K revs! Forward progress @ that point was fairly meaningless & to get reasonable throttle response I had to drop 4 gears! The power hit @ 7.5K had disappeared & was replaced by the pipes starting to "cackle" @ 5.6K revs, as the gases in the pipe started to resonate. - I hate to be a boring sod but this set up without the high drama & being more user friendly was actually faster as the response @ the rear wheel from the throttle input was linear ! :)
What A Work of Art !
Just . . . stunning!
I don't even want to know how many hours goes into building one of those. Bonkers.
thumbs up for the legendary japanese 2 stroke engines ..!!love them forever !
Amazing machines
hahahaha frekin sweet. And may I say I have watched all these videos now, you guys are hilarious! :D
Increíbles máquinas
Hermosas !!!!
Bonne vidéo avec du bon moteurs 2 temps
mad max would've been jealous!
The last one is beautifully built but a 3 wheel car with wishbone suspension all working in different tracks! I had one with a TZ700 engine and it was lethal - it would weave all the way down the straight. The front wishbone needs to be turned around 90 degrees..................still, it's a beautiful machine!
+Alan Eccles I agree, did you notice the chair wheel had a steering link?
+rob the log
I saw the side wheel linkage. I've only ever seen one other like it built by Ian Kirk Engineering in Aberdeen in the early 80s - also with TZ750 power. Driven by a very brave Peter Greig and even braver passenger Rudi Elmquist - it was the original "worm"
+Alan Eccles Yeah, I'm still scratchin' me 'ead over that front end though, I imagine you'd get a lot of torque and bump steer, is that the case?
+rob the log
Terrible bumpsteer - I just couldn't dial it out. My chassis was designed by a Formula 3 car engineer who thought he could just "take a wheel out". It was also a short wheelbase so it squirmed everywhere. I sold it, mainly for the Denis Trollope TZ700 motor but the buyer decided to long wheelbase it and turn the front round 90 degrees but tragically he was killed in a big off in the mid 80s
+Alan Eccles Yeah I sorta thought it'd handle like a dog on a tiled floor, I just can't workout how this is a good set up. that's very sad about the bloke that got killed, but that's the very nature of chair racing. Cheers to ya bloke, Rob in Oz.
Indy great videos ,when you getting g your Daughter on a 65cc??🔥 Had to comment here I couldn't on your video you made with her watching Ant!👍
The Yamaha TZ 350,500,700,750 all share the same parts. The 500 and above are (2) 350 engines mated together.
These engines used to Race in Formula750 in the states. Also at IOMTT
where can i get one of these engines?????
what engines are they from? ive never seen a 4 cyl liquid cooled 2t
Two Stroke Engines have this strange exhaust pipes because they need a different back pressure system to maintain power compared with a four stroke.
They are TZ500 motors from a yzr500 from before 2002 when the rules were changed to put 4 strokes back at the front.
Wow ' chain driven too ! 😎
How can I get this engine
I'm surprised that your not running flatslide carbs. on those for the enhanced throttle response and ease of throttle pull for racing.
These are only based on Yamaha engines, but are Krauser, made in Europe 🇪🇺 😀
Are you a personal friend of Ant West or are you a MZ Mechanic. I am not sure because you seem to spend a lot of time with ant xD
I didn't realise you were allowed steering on the 'chair' wheel.
Is that a Germany-only thing?
John Warner I had to go back & see because at first I thought, WTF? But it sure looks like it steers! I've never heard of any side hack w/ that feature, I've even got seat time on a road race sidecar Kaw 1000 & still never heard of this kind of set-up. Never the less, they're beautiful though & a couple hot laps on one would be great!
+John “Doc” Warner these are older if they had two wheel steer this was banned along with two wheel drive they also dropped from 700/750 cc to 500cc Krauser engines making about 180hp
This was us recording what the Germans do in their side car championships, not us. We are in the MotoGP with bikes
Ready to go?
Tearing You Up Inside - Hills Rolling
Looks like #reddingpower at the end of the video ???
Sorry, between the MotoGP races we visited the Sachsenring circuit so I put MotoGP in there
What is the name of this black glasses i like how they look
Oakley Gascan ;) !
why do the 2 stroke engines have this strange exhaust pipes?
They do make a 1-stroke; it's called a "gun"...
this is not a 1000cc two stroke but a 500cc two stroke 4 cilinder
Finally someone who isn't a complete moron!!
Actually it is a TZ 750 engine :-)
yep
I miss 2 strokes :(
R188S , loved the smell of em at the track!
i am open to safety wire tips! no one in our shop can do it worth a flying truck!
lets roll
I'm sorry, I thought those were YOUR bikes, My bad, You may not need the safety wire tip I was speaking of. I had noticed a small oversight & was going to share w/ You in a private message. Not that it was bad, Just a cool trick. The guy who taught Me was "Anal" when it came to even small stuff, He is in the movie, "On Any SUNDAY" A Champion & a close friend, & everything He took the time to teach Me, I took to heart & I like teaching others anytime if they want. I'll read first next time, lol
this are not 500cc (yaaa surrrr....) they are 750cc tz yamaha engine's
am just saing .....you know?
I also thought they where 500 cc,why dit they put 750 cc in there.or is this just a project. 750 cc two stroke is of limits???
the TZ engines 750 engines , can be fitted with 2 pairs of 350/250 cylinders and piston , making a 700/500 engine .
the 700 has more torque and 500 can use powerjet carbs ( this was back in the early eighties when i was spannering for a sidecar team )
@@BigBadLoneWolf
But only the TZ700/750 cylinders use reed valves
I think these are yamaha yzr500
why is this vid called moto gp vs 2 stroke side cars? it should be called just 2 stroke sidecars??? i dont see where the "vs" or "moto gp" comes into it?
Those don't appear to be built for comfort.
Both haha!
Too bad it can't start...
im surprised you dont realize side hacks carry much more weight and favor torque.
