I was lucky enough to get a few laps around Jerez on an NSR500 V2 GP bike many years ago. For a man of my talents it was unrideable. The front wheel would lift as soon as the power came in, I couldn't rev it out in any gear, a good squeeze of the brakes nearly threw me over the bars 50 yards before the end of the back straight and even for my 5'7 and 65KG in gear it was tiny. A treasured memory but when I thought I could ride, this bike proved I couldn't. It also was constantly having jetting changes and tape put on and off the radiator. I forget who actually owned it at the time, but I thank you. 2 stroke 4 ever!
I remember very well the era of those evil, awesome 500 two strokers. I followed the likes of Doohan, Rainey, Spencer, Gardner, Mamola, Schwantz, Lawson, Roberts and many others. Such difficult bikes to manage but so entertaining to watch.
It's good to see Mr Mackenzie Snr back on a bike. I remember watching and cheering your dad and rocket ron at Donington back in the late 80s, racing against Mamola, Shwantz, Rainey, Gardner and Lawson to name but a few. Great times.
That brought back memories. The last time I heard a racing 2 stroke would have been Knockhill 18 years ago and the garages etc look exactly the same! The paddock power probably still trips out when everyone turns their kettles or tyre warmers on 😂
Kenny Roberts yzr 500cc Yamaha ( team Roberts bike ) won the Formula USA 3 years straight ...that class was fkng balls out. Any bike any size any modifications it was all fair.
I was lucky to grow up during what has to be the golden age of motorcycle racing. Some of my fondest memories were watching Kenny Roberts wheeling his bike through the cork screw on the Laguna Seca track and Jimmy Felice winning the 250GP race on a loaner bike. The two stroke days were the best. The sound and the smells were amazing. I don't remember calling the 500GP bikes MotoGP bikes. I thought that came with the introduction of the four strokes. Thanks for the memories and the sound of a 500 two stroke at full song!
all motorsports retroactively call the sport by it's current name. been that way forever. don't get too caught up in what they call it. gatekeeping is for losers.
As a kid we went to all the tracks this was in the Mick Grant Barry Sheene days, used to love the sound and the smell. Years (many years) later took my son to Olivers Mount it was so disappointing not hear and smell the 2 stroke, the Brut 33 wet wipes and MCN stand handing out stickers, but then the vintage bikes came out. Took me back!
I'm a Yank, first time looking at one of your videos. I'm like, "how does this guy get to ride these bikes?" Then at the very end of the video, the lights finally came on when you panned the camera over to "dad". "Bloddy 'ell! That's Niall Mackenzie and this must be his son!" I'm a little slow.
Hearing those machines brings back so many memories. My old YDS7 Yamaha, tuned to within an inch of it's life and the noise from a set of Sondell expansion exhausts. Ahhh!! tha good old days
Wow what a day that was riding those 2 strokes at a sunny Knockhill lucky sod ha ha, awesome video Taylor good to see your dad having a go on them as well, all the very best at Donington mate i will be watching you on my tv stay safe buddy
I was bought up on a diet of two strokes in the mid 70s what an era ! Sold my rd400 bought a gs750 sold the gs and went back to another rd400 ! They were the pinnacle of fun ! And you could use all of the 40bhp on the road ! Thanks for posting this magnificent video 😊
Fantastic experiences, thanks for putting the video together and posting it so we can enjoy some second-hand 2stroke smoke. Having raced in that era (1978-1988) I can happily say that I still miss the 2stroke powerband, light weight, and just the sheer fun of trying to get the most out of them. I'd echo what your Dad said, the TZ250s (and Honda RS250s) were just "it" to ride - you just kept coming back for more, and more, and more... heh heh!
Brilliant day at The Hill for sure!!! I have to say I am more comfortable on the 2 stroke GP bikes than the Diesel Superbikes. The lack of engine braking suits my style much more as I enter corners. If you can get a 2 stroke bike set up right, they are an absolute joy to ride. Get it wrong and you’ll feel you’ve aged 30 years in 5 laps lol Great job‼️ 👍🏼
Jammy bar steward indeed… 😁 cool video, great to see all the two stroke classics. Nobody will ever reminisce the same about a four stroke! Treasure them for as long as we can. 😎
Love Knockhill, though it's changed since I toured round it in the 70s. The bikes are awesome, but just those few words from the old master at the end made this even more special. Thanks!
I grow up on 2 strokes. Went from rg125. Rd350. Rd500. Wish I kept them all. Bank account wasn't big enough in them days lol ..Great seeing the mackenzie on tv today on euro sport . Mad mark 👍🏼
Aaaarrrriiiiiinnnnngggg.....aaaarrrriiiiiinnnngggg.. luv two strokes...those fly bys recorded on the pit wall yer dad and you did on on the two fifty and five hundred sounded superb!
Hi Taylor, another fantastic video, you even had mad Mark with you. That's a bonus for us to see him again, he`s still got it at 60 and it`s clear to see. Kenny Roberts two stroke Suzuki, that's nearly a Yamaha lol Don't think it will be to long before you ride a Yamaha, just like your dad and brother. One more thing Taylor, you and Tarran looked like you had a great time on Eurosport. Just fantastic work, keep that going and good luck for the rest of the season.
A great video Taylor. I never raced at Knockhill but it looks a great little track. Loved the sound, also the Moto 3 looked lovely. It’s two-strokes for every day of the week!! Lucky man.
You are one lucky SOAB young man. Looked like you had a blast mate. Great video as always. Oh Eurosport was magic with you and your brother today too. Not jealous, Much lol
Well that made my day I was brought up on 2 strokes one question do you think a 20 year old gp bike would beat your super stocker? What was nice was seeing your dad on the 500 brings back so many memories 🥲🏴👍
Great Video Thanks: I grew up on two strokes got some great memory's screaming around on them, must have been amazing to have ridden probably one of the best racing two strokes motorcycles ever made :-)
Gimme a stroker any day , factory RGV was amazing , gave me ideas I shouldn't be getting these days 😅, amazing video Taylor , blessed are they who get squirrelly on a 500 , nostalgia isn't what it used to be
Awesome Track Day . Reminded me of the time I had an opportunity to ride the Pat Hennen RGV 500 that John Woodley of Blenheim NZ bought way back, those bikes were well balanced and so easy to race … easy to see why they were such winners. The Two Fifty and Three fifty Yamaha’s were knife edge power band to ride but the Suzuki was flexible …. So lovely to see this generation enjoying the older and awesome 500 two stroke racers !
How Jammie are you?? The noise of a two stroke takes me back to the seventies and eighties when they reigned supreme! Try and blag a ride on the ex Agostini MV Agusta V4, a truly amazing machine, I think you'd love it!! Great to see Dad having a go!
Which did you like the best, 250 or 500 ? I've ridden a road RS250 and loved it. Hats off to the owner of the 500, it was at Goodwood fos, great to see it out and about at so many events.
Some lovely stuff out and about there mate, nice to see the old man go a ride out too lol! In my happy place now, to me the wifes scented candles all now smell of Castrol R...

Unbelievable, bet you was a bit excited, nice one mate, you and taz have done a great job on eurosport, good luck to both of you for next weekend. Take care all of you. 🏍️🍻
I remember watching the 250gp championship decider from Philip island in 2000 Jacque had ice in his veins waiting to silpstream a identical bike on the last corner amazing race him and nakano were in a class of their own that season
This is my idea of a really fantastic day out, race two strokes there's nowt quite like them, i'm with your dad on this , i raced tz's back in the 80's and it is a special memory that i never forget. these lightweight bikes are well planted and go where you point them, the handling is sublime. Proper racing bikes is what i call em, built for the job.
Having had a rz350 and a ZX11D back to back, the RZ had a very explosive power delivery after about 7K rooms, below that it was pretty gutless. Then at 7k it explodes as it gets on the pipe, and you rocket ahead at warp speed and shift at 12k. They hate being cruised at a steady speed though. The Ninja 1100 was super torquey and had flat power delivery from idle to redline in any gear, just effortless acceleration from any speed to any speed. Much heavier bike of course, the RZ was like riding a bicycle with 80hp by comparison to the fat literbike.
Your dad is still a hands on guy, go Niall show the boys how it’s done. ATB for the season, twist it to the limit. Stay safe Taz to. Bring on the next one!.

I love to stroke the smell the vibrations and sound I had a Lawson replica Mito 125 and that was a beast for what it was but also love my RDS 350 ypvs but that Mito I had good beat anything off the lights keep up the good work pal

Its crazy how this bike gets power over 9k rpm. He drove it 10-14k constantly , Suzuki power baby 💪😍
That’s should have filled your bucket list. I’m sure it was very exciting 👍
Absolutely!
I have a 2000 Yamaha TZ125 and it's a hand full when it's come to the power and I can't imagine the power band in RGV500 you rode. OMG!!
It was something else!
Now you know what fast turn in really means :) none of that heavy four stroke nonsense ! What a cracking day out.
