As the days roll by and we get one step closer to getting the keys to our new home and moving in to our house, we're not taking van life for granted. We will have to live in the bus for the first few months of house renovations but in this week's video we're driving home for Christmas.
This week we drive to Edinburgh Christmas Markets as we make our way down the country.
We've wrapped up buying a house in Scotland and are road tripping back to Wales for one last time to enjoy Christmas with our families and pack up our stuff ready for our new chapter.
Winter camping was a blast last week but living in our tiny home - our cosy van with heating and a shower beats the camping in the forest in minus temperatures!
Even though we've just bought a house we can still highly recommend a camper van conversion any day! The freedom it gives you is incredible. Living in a van will never get old and we'll still make van life videos whenever we get super bored of the house renovations!

Here's a tip: for fake Christmas trees that "shed snow" just spray with a extreme hold hairspray or spray or non flammable glue. Works for ours.

Custard the bus should get a garage on your new place. You two should get start help in the renovation process from Eamon and Bec
My advice is buy a mini digger. The amount of different things you can use a mini digger for will save you thousands in the long run, plus you don't run your own body into the ground. The amount of money we've spent on hiring diggers over the 20 years!!! of renovating, we could have bought a mini digger 5 times over.

As for the giant reno bit - lol - don't be afraid to have more than a few projects going at once -- measure in weeks and months, NOT hours/days -- never feel guilty or afraid to take a break -- be kind to yourselves so it doesn't all start to feel like a burden -- be realistic and know that everything will take time - years even, but you're doing it and we love watching and supporting your journey :)))
Tbh I wished we had our honeymoon a year early because we will be roadtripping through Scotland June 2025 and we 100% could have helped. We have restored our own home too, and it was A LOT. So we could have helped big time. Maybe next year if you guys are still busy with renovating we could help.

My wife and I had so much fun at the Christmas Market in Edinburgh when we went in 2021. We didn't even know it was a thing and we just happened to stumble upon it. Such a magical thing to do in that city. And The Scotch Whisky Experience was an amazing thing to do as well!! I have fallen in love with Edinburgh and need to go back soon.

Craig I’m so proud of you for coming off the Anti-Depressants. I grew up with my father learning to control his Bipolar, now knowing the intricacies of finding the correct medication to deal best with the ups and downs of life. I’m so happy for you and Amy every Sunday to see you both growing and flourishing in Scotland. It’s so inspiring I’m nearing the end of my 20’s and feeling the urge to find a place to called Base Camp, you have both Truly inspired me to look into Scotland. If I can offer one piece of advice for your future homeownership... when starting a project, decide which one of you will be 'the boss' or 'in charge' on that task...One boss the other is the worker bee or apprentice. Do this for every major project and sometimes the minor ones. My husband and I learned to do this (the hard way) when we started working on our first 'home improvement' project over 45 years ago. Yes next week we celebrate 46 yers of marriage and 49 years together... .so I think this advice works 😉. Best to you both. I just started watching you a few months ago and really enjoy your channel

You could always put an old camper or something on the property and let people stay there for a vacation in bonny Scotland for help with the renovation in return. There is a bunch of people doing stuff like that in Germany and it gives people that don't have great finances the chance to get out and see somewhere new and you get a few more hands to help you out :)

Spoon for the win...no forky sounds
Park Custard on some large very sticky rodent control mats so the mice have no access to the wheels, also check that no mud flaps are closer than 6 inches to the ground. Jack her up, slide the mats under the wheels then lower her down on them. Also check that they can't climb down onto her.

Tip for the mice and rats... Few drops of peppermint oil on cotton pads inside the bus😊 it works, they apparently don't like the smell of it, it works for me when I go away.

Congrats on leaving antidepressants. As a husband of a depression patient I hope the best for you. Keep monitoring your wellbeing and dont fear if you ever (hopefully not) have to start again. Keep on fighting!
Craig, checking in, as someone who slowly weened off her antidepressants recently, it can take MONTHS for any symptoms of depression to reappear! I was on antidepressants for 6 years, and weened off over the span of 3 months of decreasing dosages, and I'm still doing well today (a year later), but my doc was very clear that it's the 1-3 month period after you've taken your last dose that you need to watch out for.
You'll probably be fully in home renovations by then, so PLEASE, talk with Amy and both be on the lookout for any signs of mental dips or dives in the upcoming months. A day or two isn't a big deal, but if you notice depression symptoms last more than a week, make sure to talk with your doctor again. Good luck, my friend, I hope you both have a blast in the new home!
