You did a great job making a fast and simple demonstration video. Quick to the point. Not a lot of talking. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thanks! I always forget my timing on quick soaking so this quick reference was great. 😊
That's how I do it. My mom said always soak your beans and check for little rocks and broken ones
She's so right...
Thank you Jeni, I’m glad you shared this. Some people don’t know the quick soak method. I’ve been canning for about 50 years, since I was a youngin with my grandmother. My mom and I would go to my grandmothers all the time to help with canning whatever needed to be canned that day and I loved it Have a blessed day!!.
🥰
Im cooking my northern beans 🫘 now one .. one thing I love about beans in a bag they are grown , don’t go bag I bought northern beans in 2019.. they smell and coming out great , will have them for lunch tomorrow at work ❤😊
Excellent video. Quick and to the point. Thumbs up. More instruction videos should be like this.
Thank you, Jeni! I have never canned beans before, but will definitely use the quick soak method when I do!
You are so welcome! 😊

Howdy from East Texas 🥰. Great info! Love to quick soak beans.
Hey there! Thanks! 😊
Much appreciated.
Thanks for the video! I want to can the baked beans this weekend, and was going to look up the quick soak method. Now I don't have to! :)
You are so welcome! Happy canning! 😊

You're welcome! 😊
Thank you. Know I can do my beans much easier.
You are so welcome! 😊
I am new to cooking. Or let's just say I had no idea how to cook these, and your video was of great help! I've watched a few bean cooking vids, and I see that normal tap water is used. IDK if I want chemical tap water soaking into the food I eat?! But then there is this multiple rinsing process which I've read is to rinse away excess salt/sugars? What harm can come from not doing the rinses? I just cooked them and I also rushed the process and only let it soak 45 min. They are quite tough and hoping not to have digestive issues from undercooking. I guess making a big batch so you don't have to do this soak process each night is a good strategy 🤔
❤️
Thanks for showing how to do the quick soak! I usually soak overnight. When you cover them the first time w the water are you using filtered water?
Yes. I have the filter system (RO) on faucet.
Great tips for beans. I had thought about canning sausage and peppers together. First I figured something like Andouilli but I'm not sure with the casings and it being frowned upon. Would regular sausage work? Thanks!!!
Absolutely! You could even use hot and add chili flakes if you like.
😊👍
today I saw there are people who are selling the Pur jar lids an rings for 18.99 in there etsy stores..when they are only 5.99 at the store..
Wow! That’s crazy! 😳
@@Jeni_Gough crazy. Joanne and the hobby lobby had Balls jars here in San
Antonio. that's nuts about the lids and rings.
Is there a way to report them for price gouging?
hey hope yall are doing good
Hi Barbara! 😊
I enjoyed your instruction very clear and yeah, thank you. BTW... I was getting distracted by your pretty blue nail polish. 😊. That always happens with pretty fingernails.
Thank you! 😊
How much would you add if making quart size cause not sure if they will swell up?Maybe 2 cups per qt or is that too much cause I would like some liquid left in the jars when they are done. Thanks Jeni.
Half way full of beans, the rest liquid. 😊
Thank you Jeni for replying soo fast, now I can can tonite. You are awesome and love your channel.@@Jeni_Gough
Enjoyed your video so simple. Do you have a video on using pressure canner? Thank you
Hundreds!! I have a canning playlist, most of the videos are pressure canning!
@@Jeni_Gough I was more interested in Bean canning showing how to prepare for canning. I enjoy that you get to the point & not too much talking. Thank you again for sharing your influence.
@@fbs1917 lots of bean canning videos in that playlist!
Have you ever canned ground beef with taco seasoning? Do you make your taco seasoning homemade? Would love to see a video on this! I'm a new canner and I love it, it's so fun. I appreciate your videos, very informative 😊
Yes, I always make taco seasoning homemade, I will do a vid on my seasonings soon! I have canned taco meat in the past. Not as much anymore because my husband doesn't care for canned ground beef, but I do! I have a vid coming out friday you might like! 😊
@@Jeni_Gough sounds great! I'm going to do your refried beans mix this weekend, if the creek don't rise lol. And the baked beans soon. I hope you'll share your taco mix as well. Thanks so much!
@@Jeni_Gough also can you add the taco seasoning when canning raw chicken, maybe in the bottom of the jar? Sorry for all the questions but thank you for your time and patience!!
@@onThisJourney you sure can! I have a chicken burrito / taco mix canning video for you all on Friday!! 😊
@@Jeni_Gough awesome!!!
How full do you fill the jars with beans?
Half full
Can I quick soak black and red beans together in same pot at the same time? Thanks
yes
When mentioning canning bone-in chicken below, I was wondering... if I put the chicken skin and bones in a quart jar and filled to a 1-inch headspace and processed, would it make a good bone broth? I know time is important to "leach" out the minerals, but maybe adding a little vinegar? The last bone-in skin-on breasts that I got ($.89/lb) were so huge that they would not fit into the jars! So I removed the meat from the bones and used the skin and bones for some broth that I used for a casserole. Just trying to think of quicker ways to make bone broth instead of using other means, since I'd be canning anyway and it may be a way to fill in an empty space or two during a session (I usually can some water). Anyway, thanks for letting me pick your brain! ;-)
Yes, I would add liquid to one inch and yes, add a tsp of vinegar to each jar, you want all the collagen into the broth! Hopefully you can fit a couple pieces of chicken in, but if it’s the broth you are wanting, even one piece in a jar is good. 😊
@@Jeni_Gough Thanks!
Thank you so much. Really saved my ass lol
You are so welcome! 😊
Jeni, do you happen to have a recipe for 'drunken beans' aka borracho
beans? I used to have an excellent recipe for them but ... I managed to
lose it. If you have one, would you be willing to share? Thank you!
I don’t, but I will work on it! I just ordered some tonight at Fuzzy’s Tacos!! I love those! 😊
The reason for soaking beans is to remove the feitic (sp?) acid. I'm concerned that this method does not give it enough time to do that. Any info on this?
It is in fact, lectins and yes, this method kills off as many as soaking overnight. 😊
This may be a weird question but, when you leave them for an hour, do you leave it on the hot burner, or move it to another one?
They are moved off the hot burner! They are only on the burner to cook for 2 minutes. 😊
Thank you so much! I actually made the Charro beans from your video yesterday and tried them today. Omg, are they ever delicious! Thank you so much for all of your hard work! And I hope you get better soon!
@@marilynlacroix9508 wonderful! You are so welcome! 😊
But how long do you know still have to cook them ?
As I explained in the video, 1 minute.
I have never canned beans, only cook them to eat. I have never soaked them at all. Is the purpose to reduce cooking time?
No, the purpose is to reduce the lectins. Lectins are what cause stomach upset for most people when eating beans. 😊
@@Jeni_Gough thank you so much 😊
@@phyllisbakercoffman8988 Yw! 😊
I'm new to dry beans - quick question: is there a discernible difference in taste/texture/quality/etc between quick soak and overnight? Many thanks for the video! New sub!
Not at all
How are my beans soft from soaking in cold water in less than 2 hours. ? They're soft
Maybe they are really fresh??
@@Jeni_Gough Mmmm, could be. Thanks
Why are my beans floating and getting wrinkled?
Bad beans float, but they all shouldn't do that unless they are old.
Why can’t broken beans be canned?
They just turn to mush in the bottom of the jar if you have too many. Not by any means are they unsafe. 😊
What type of beans are those ... not pintos. Thank you
The are pintos. Pintos range in color and if you buy several packs, they may be different shades. Those were the end of several bags thrown in together. 😊
Can I ask you do you can chicken thighs with the bone
Yes! I haven’t done that video though.
@@Jeni_Gough I canned 10 quart yesterday
@@lsdennis wonderful!! 😊
I have canned thighs and legs, some together and some separately. I haven't tried them yet, though, but by leaving the skin on, it made a beautiful broth in the jar.
