    • @VWilt-so3ws
      @VWilt-so3ws 2 роки тому +5

      @@butterflyqueen9260 I believe he means she soaks them in water and gives that water that's left over to the plants. I think some of the good stuff from beans may leach out into the water. I'd suggest also any left over water, if you don't have plants could be saved and used for stock water to make something else, that is before you add spices or stuff for your bean recipe. Same with left over "water" from cooking meats. You know like when your boiling a chicken in water to make yellow rice and chicken, or baking a roast (I add water) you can save that water you boiled the chicken, or other meat in for soup stock water, maybe add some bullion cubes of any flavor, for another recipe, or then freeze it till you make your recipe. Same with cooking left over chicken bones, steak bones etc., save them up,, freeze them,, when you have enough, boil them and it makes bone broth and is very nutritioninal for you & pets. I prefer to strain mine and use it for recipes or pour over hard dog food, I'm sure there's tons of things people do with it. Thing is, its fluid for your body, just like the juice in veg. cans. With times now, you may want to save and use in other recipes.

    I am an overnight soaker, too! I use kidney beans in Red Beans and Rice and I use black beans in dishes like Taco Chicken (a recipe I made up)... saute chicken breasts (whole or cubed) in oil .Add a packet of taco 🌮 seasoning and about a cup of water. Bring to a boil. Add a can of corn (or 2 cups fresh/frozen)and a can of black beans, drained and rinsed. Simmer about 20 minutes or until chicken is done. Serve over rice. Sprinkle cheese over top if desired. Leftovers are good rolled up in a tortilla.

    I love that you showed several different ways so everyone would have an opportunity to learn! I don't currently have an instant pot so it's soaking and crock potting for me but I have slowly over time learned some useful things. My one tip..if making beans in a crock pot do not and I repeat do not add molasses and sugar before fully cooked if you want your beans soft. Ruined an entire batch that w ouldnt soften after nearly 2 full afternoons of cooking them. Not a problem if you like the crunch but we did not enjoy them lol

    Don’t let some Texans hear that you put beans in your chili! I’ve met some people who can’t stand it and say it’s not “real chili...” I say BS! Beans are so filling, cheap and healthy, and add extra texture and flavor to chili. The only time I like all-meat chili is if it’s going on top of something like a hot dog, fries or chili mac ☺️ actually now that I think about it... chili mac sounds amazing, I’ll make some tonight!

      Amy Hall haha I lived in Alabama for ten years and that chili and cornbread was the good stuff! Here in California we do bean chili but also ranch style beans which as far as I can tell are unique to California and soooooo good. Similar to a chili but a different flavor profile and just one kind of beans.

    Well, I've been reading the comments from other people and I feel like a duck outta water. For one thing I only cook pinto, navy and great northern. I don't soak them, I just put them in the pan and add about three or four strips of bacon and cook, adding water as needed. When they start getting tender I add salt to taste and only a little water at a time until the juice gets thick. I serve them with fried potatoes or rice. And don't forget the cornbread. Been making them that way for fifty eight years.

      Judith Loue I wasn’t telling you to cook any different, just saying how I like to cook mine. I didn’t mean you were doing yours the wrong way and I’m sure the instant pot is great and makes good beans. I wasn’t being critical at all about you. Sorry if you took it that way. I’m old too and not in good health, will be 75 in a couple of months.

    Great video. I have been interested in cooking dried beans. Got a ninja foodie and an instapot too. Looking forward to trying it. Bought a bag of dried beans, one with 10 different beans. Looking forward to throwing it into my ninja foodie with a can of diced tomatoes, a linkmor two of smoked sausage and some spices....delicious!
    My favorite bean......so difficult to choose a favorite. Enjoy pintos, black beans, cannellini beans, and kidney beans.

    Thank you for this video! My first pot of beans tasted like mud; they said I needed to wash them so my second pot of beans tasted like soap they told me I have to rinse and drain all the dirty water off so as they were cooking every time the water started to turn brown I would drain and rinse the beans and start cooking them again with clean water

    • @VWilt-so3ws
      @VWilt-so3ws 2 роки тому +4

      You take the beans and rinse them off with cold water in a colander or in a pan, no soap and swish them around then pour out the water. You rinse to get twigs, dirt etc off. Then you put them in a pan, cover with water, have inches of water over the beans, to soak over night depending on the bean. Bags have directions for that. Depending on the bean you choose, the water will turn cloudy as it's cooking. Some turn darker then others, they're not dirty, they are cooking. Your doing it right. While they are cooking you can add ham hocks, bacon, left over ham or onions, even veges, spices, bullion cube for flavor etc. Once the bean water starts thickening up, you want to let the water cook down so it starts thickening up to your preference. You can use it over rice, make a soup or whatever your thinking of making. I got the feeling you were frustrated, maybe needing assistance. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry. Just wanting you to have a good experience with beans. They are so good for you, have many uses in recipes, side dishes, cheep, make soups, chili's, things stretching farther. Hope this helps. Do a search for bean recipes. There's many in this comment section of all kinds of recipes. Happy trails Vicki

    The Instant Pot is life changing for cooking beans. I make a pot fat free refried beans every week. The jalapeños, Serrano's, onion and spices infuse the beans with incredible flavor. Bean, cheese and bacon tacos are a favorite breakfast here.

    I'm so happy you did this video. I learned not to put salt when cooking, which I didn't know. I've used mostly canned beans and the few attempts to use dry beans were mediocre. So, I will definitely be trying your method. My favorite beans are black beans. So good. ButI love beans and eat a variety. TFS Kristin x

    Very much agreed on the multicooker! The only thing I'd add is make sure you get one with a stainless steel pot. The teflon-coated ones aren't going to last as long. You can find off-brand ones for pretty cheap if you watch for them. For example, just this past weekend (on January 8th, 2021) Best Buy had their Insignia brand 6qt stainless steel multi-cooker for $30, which is 50% off.

    I've never really had dried beans before. It was one of the foods that I labeled as a no go when I was a kid and made big hard decisions like that. The texture was just really off to me. I told myself that this year I will try them again, since the idea of having some variety, additional protein and decreasing the grocery bill is the goal for the year.
