How to survive in this game: 1.Stay near teammate 2. Aim center mass when fighting medium tanks or light tanks 3. Angle armor (especially when using a Tiger)
My tips are: Don't be in a hurry to die...Being in a rush to be the first to capture a position, normally means you are first to make contact with the enemy and you are often all alone. Which brings me onto my second tip which is don't be a lone gunman, you will have a lot more success when you hunt as a pack.
I normally used to cap and first only if I got a good headstart. The moment I reached Cap point I would actively search for a house or object to hide behind and start the Capping. If teammates couldn't catch up then just smoke up the whole area and try to bugger off ASAP. Capping points always gave me some much needed SL. But it also helps to have a tank with good speed like M24 or else it becomes too risky
A few extra tips: You can key-bind controls to adjust the range on your gun-sight ( _ie "zeroing" the gun_ ). I have the controls for increasing and decreasing the range key-bound to two buttons on the side of my mouse, and the I use the "/" button to reset the range. This allows you to set the desired range and aim straight at your target instead of aiming above them and will be really useful, when used with your rangefinder, for firing at long distances. If you don't know how to kill a tank then check out its armor layout in a preview. With the addition of the " *armor protection analysis* ", you can also see the penetration chance of every shell in the game, at any distance, vs the armor on any part of any tank. In the same protection analysis you can also left click to simulate a shot. This feature is very useful to see what will actually happen when you shoot a certain spot, since some areas that are stated as having a high ricochet chance, or low penetration chance, will still be penetrated when shot at and vice versa. Bind a button for " *Cruise Control* ". I have mine bound to the Q and E buttons (to decrease and increase my cruise control level respectively). Essentially it just automatically drives your tank forward/ backwards and you can choose between various predefined speeds. It's great for travelling long distances without having to hold down W/S. Cruise control is also very helpful in combat in order to maintain a slow, consistent speed for firing on the move and it is necessary for some vehicles such as the Bradley IFV. Aim for the engine, the gunner, or ammo. Aim for the engine when your enemy has a chance of escaping from you, aim for the gunner if you can't risk them firing at you, and aim for ammo if you think you can one-shot it with your ammo. Sometimes ammunition won't detonate so aiming for ammo can be risky. If you have a good enough gun then often times you can just aim center-of-mass and one-shot a tank without putting much thought into it. Turn off " *grass in gun-sight* ". This will get rid of grass when looking through your gun-sight, making it easier to aim. Angle your tank whenever you are in combat. Angling improves the chance of ricochets and increases your armor's effective thickness. Angling is especially important in tanks like the Tiger H1, which is completely vulnerable when not angled, but capable of ricochets and non-penetrations when angled. Make sure that when you angle your tank, you aren't angling yourself in a way that makes another part of armor more vulnerable or exposes an obvious weakpoint, to do this go look at your armor layout in the preview or customization window. You can keybind the guns on your tanks to specific controls. I have mine set to 1, 2 and 3 on the numpad, which lets me switch between controlling the main gun alone, all guns, or only secondary guns such as roof-mounted and hull-mounted machine guns. Binding individual guns helps you with tanks that have multiple turrets or when you want to use your machine gun to kill something (such as a plane) without turning your entire turret around. You can catch lightly armored vehicles off guard by only turning your roof-mounted mg to face them instead of your main gun and filling them full of holes. A *_quick_* ammo guide: *_As of update 2.5 "Ixwa Strike" the game mechanic "hullbreak" has been replaced with "overpressure". Any projectile with HE filler can cause overpressure. If a projectile detonates and causes enough damage to internal modules then the game will activate the overpressure mechanic, damaging or killing all crew members within a crew compartment due to excessive pressure. Tanks with divided crew compartments will only experience overpressure in the compartment that was hit and open-top vehicles may be instantly killed by ammunition exploding several meters away from them._ *----- KINETIC AMMUNITION ----* -*SH (Shrapnel)* : This ammunition is only found on a few Soviet tanks and maybe some other tanks. It has very little penetration and its purpose is similar to HE, except the shrapnel effect is in the form of a cone rather than a sphere, making it less effective. -*AP (Armor Piercing)* : Solid shot with a large projectile piece and smaller fragments that damage an area in the direct path of the shell. Some shells designated as AP actually have some explosive filler inside of them, so check to see if the ammunition's stat card states it as having any. -*APHE (Armor Piercing High-Explosive)* : Armor piercing shots with a high explosive filler. They detonate inside the tank, but the damage varies depending on the amount of explosive filler, the fuse sensitivity compared with the armor being penetrated, as well as the fuse delay. The explosive effect can be blocked by modules inside the tank such as the gun breach. -*APDS (Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot)* : A sub-caliber composite round with high penetration, but a high ricochet chance and limited post-penetration effect. -*APCR (Armor Piercing Composite Rigid)* : A sub-caliber, composite round with high penetration but a really high chance to ricochet off any sloped armor and basically no post-penetration damage. This is probably the worst ammunition you could ever use and God help you if you have this as part of your stock grind. Only use this trash if you need to penetrate heavy armor that isn't at an angle, such as the front plate on a Tiger 1. -*APFSDS/ APDS-FS (Armor Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot/ Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot Fin-Stabilized)* : APFSDS rounds offer the highest penetration for kinetic ammunition and have the best post-penetration damage effect compared to solid ammo such as AP, APDS, and APCR. APFSDS rounds also have very high muzzle velocities, so they perform better over long distances, and they can penetrate extremely angled armor. *---- CHEMICAL AMMUNITION ----* All chemical ammunition retains its penetration regardless of range and will cause overpressure* upon detonation. -*HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank)* : HEAT rounds have very high penetration and they do not lose penetration over distance, but the post-penetration damage effects are very limited, usually just a solid line with very little spread. -*HEAT-FS (High-explosive Anti-Tank Fin-Stabilized)* : HEAT-FS rounds have extremely high penetration but a limited post-pen damage effect. These rounds have higher penetration compared to HEAT and are more accurate. -*HE (High Explosive)* : You're basically firing a bomb. It detonates on impact which creates shrapnel in a sphere around the point of detonation. HE rounds usually have very little penetration but can still kill tanks by going through lightly armored parts such as the roof, floor and sides. HE rounds should primarily be used against lightly armored vehicles. HE-DF shells have a variable fuse which will detonate at a distance specified by the player, via the rangefinder. HE-VT shells have a proximity fuse. -*HESH (High Explosive Squash Head)* : These rounds do not penetrate armor, instead they create a concentrated explosion on the outside of the tank, causing the armor on the inside of the tank to break and turn into shrapnel. The direction that the shrapnel will fly in depends on the angle of the armor being hit, and a large surface will create more shrapnel. HESH can be stopped by small objects on the outside of the tank or by the tracks, making it unreliable at times. -*ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile)* : ATGMs are missiles that can be guided with the mouse or with the keyboard, depending on the missile being used. ATGMs have insane amounts of penetration and their post-penetration damage varies wildly. "Tandem" ATGMs have two warheads; the first warhead detonates any Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) and the second warhead penetrates the armor itself. *---- ADDITIONAL ABBREVIATIONS ----* -*C ("Capped" rounds)* : Any round with a C in its designation such as" APC" (Armor Piercing Capped), has a cap on it. The cap gives it better penetration vs sloped armor. -*BC ("Balistic Capped" rounds)* : Any round with a BC in its designation such as APHEBC, APBC, etc.. has a ballistic cap on it, which improves penetration at range as well as penetration against sloped armor. _Some ammo will have a combination of these such as APCBC._ WT wiki links: wiki.warthunder.com/Ground_vehicles wiki.warthunder.com/Tank_ammunition
also got tips for grinding early german vehicles? you have no idea how many times i died because the panzer3/4's got no armour, a tree for a commander hatch, no gun traverse, and no turret traverse to respond to any threat that genuinely tries to kill them. and of course, the early light tank destroyers suffer from that problem 2x harder. i can't get into aggressive sniper positions because of this, and especially not head into towns as i can't tank, can't traverse towards any target, nor point the gun. it just takes far too much time to get into firing position for it to be feasible against someone who's aware of you. and don't get me started on defending against flanking maneuvers in cities or on the outskirts, because i have been killed and been too slow to fire at tanks for turning like a ft 17 far too many times. that has also led to alot of deaths when trying to camp the far flan bushlines. i could of course just sit back and play super passively as a far backline sniper, but that seems to net me 0 caps and maybe 1 kill a match as nothing really comes near the back lines unless the enemy is pushing your cap point.
I think I've already said this before, but use headphones and turn engine noises up in the volumes controls. This allows you to hear and enemy shifting gear or moving spatially (which direction they are coming from) without being able to see them.
@@noonex3891 No, the only way for that to happen is if you engine gets knocked out. You cannot start or stop your engine, even if you stand still the engine will still be running.
@@jasonaarninkhof871 not all aa vehicles are good but most are somewhat useful and others downright overpowered for their br, for example take the wirbelwind it is an outstanding aa vehicle and with a little luck the pzgr 40 can do decently well against many tanks you see if you play it right and aim for guns and sides of tanks. when going tank v tank in an spaa try to be more of a support vehicle
Tip: Only fire if you are sure you'll do critical damage (engine, crew, turret drive etc.). If you shoot and your shell has done no effective damage what you've just done is given your position away for no reason.
No very bad tip because in war thunder you have no time to mind because of you don't shoot immediately the enemy will shoot you. If you see the green light in scope that mean is critical or kill.
@@anticommunist5899 I mean, this tip only applies if you're in a hidden position and you don't want to give it away. If you're sure you've been spotted, firing can't harm you.
Αθανάσιος Ο ΜΑΚΕΔΩΝ not everyone plays arcade. If people immediately start into an rb or sb match they must learn to be concealed when necessary. Arcade’s spotting mechanics remove concealment really, so shooting doesnt matter as youre on the map anyways
Im new at the game and finding out facts in how to play and what button can do what . So when I see a target , should I then put on sniper mode line it up then fire ?
One tip that no one really thinks too much about, is keeping calm and not freaking out. Keeping calm is key to staying alive, you become more aware and you don't get too much tunnel vision.
@erikcarrillo33 i find myself more panicking than being bloodthirsty. Everytime I get shot by some random boi, I began to look back of my tank and began to retreat. Instead of trying to spot, or use smoke. Usually it doesnt work.
I'd dispute the 'only have three slots per nation'. I think it's better to at least buy the extra ones for silver...it gives you flexibility when fighting a battle. Sometimes certain classes of vehicle make more sense on certain maps, certain battle situations or with particular objective layouts. Also, if you're playing RB, you want slots for a AAA vehicle and a plane or two. That flexibility more than makes up for a more spread out xp situation imo.
@@MarkGFL Good point. Building a line-up is quite a bit on your personal taste and strategy. I tend to keep at least a plane and a AAA in my lineup no matter what, and I've seen people have two planes (a bomber and a fighter)...plus their normal tank line-up.
I bawked at that, you need more than 3 in a line up as different maps require different tank capabilities. If your new, build in a line up that allows flexibility, speed for when you need it, heavy armour for when you need it...ie defending a winning position etc...more tanks allow this and definitely have 1 plane min in your line up.
Three crew only is restricting, say you have a lineup with decent mobility and some firepower, bit lacks pure defensive capability (not enough armor to hold damage from killing you), and the game situation became one where team has two caps but enemy made a MASSIVE assault towards a single cap, to ward off them, surviving the incoming fire will be necessary, 3 slots would force player into a AA dedicated slot, one first spawn choice and a backup/alternative first spawn choice, not enough leeway to help the team with what's needed (for example, British have a Matilda as a 3.0 AB and 2.7 RB, it won't cut in damage, but will obviously put a halt to enemy offensive for a while if they don't have a long 75mm for germans of the meme 3.7 90mm Italian SPG). Early on, 4 slots is enough to have a plane, dedicated SPAA, a tank + an extra vehicle to choose as an alternative for change of tactics.
Superfly29rr Being a teammate IMO is only worth it if an ally has shown competence already or is squadded up w/ you (im often in full squads and we keep spread out but in communication). I do still leave targets to check a flank, but I always come back to them if its clear.
Superfly29rr I personally play warthunder for the glorious moments of derp and troll, but I also play serious at times(as serious as you can be while intentionally uptiered). When I’m serious, I like to just set people on fiyah and fuck off. They turn their turret around and I get an assist.
Ok, here is a tip a lot of people miss. You don't have to play every tank in the game to progress. You only have to unlock a tank to get past it, and four tanks per tier to go to the next tier. That means that if you don't like a vehicle, or think it is underpowered...don't play it. There is no path of module unlocks you need to do to go to the next tank in the line, and no reason to play a particular vehicle except that you choose to. An example: say you like the KV-1 (KV-1 L-11 in WT speak) and think it is amazingly OP. You could drive nothing BUT the KV-1...and unlock every other tank in the same tier (rank in WT speak), and every tank in the tier after it, for no penalty.
Thats a good point, and a great feature. There is nothing worse than the feeling of having to grind away in a game playing something you hate just to get the next (insert item here) unlocked.
Any tips for grinding silver? I have a tonne of stuff unlocked that I can't afford to buy, especially jets. I only have one jet but three more unlocked. Just seems that money grinding is unbearably slow. It's hard to resist the temptation to buy a cheaper unlocked vehicle just to break the monotony every now and then.
@@B.D.E., if for short term " i want SL even if i have to make half the player community BS pissed off", take a Jumbo, KV1 L11, Japanese Ho-ri production, french Jumbo and make mass murder of lesser foes just for SL. If for some basic stable income, up to tier III tanks or planes, it will depend on your skill to avoid losing SL if a loss happens, but these tiers also have the daily tasks readily open every single day, it will help.
Every nation have different tracer on their MG Red : USA White : French "all white tracer" & soviet "tracer,ap,ap,tracer" Green : Germany That all i know
Japan, Italy and Britan also have white to yellow tracers, but with slower firerate and magazine capacity. Like the Japanese and Italians have quick reload times and small magazines while the britans have quite the opposit.
One big tip: pay attention to the BRs of your lineup, because while you can't control if you get uptiered in a given match, you _can_ control the upper limit of that uptier. If you're running a German 4.0 lineup, then the worst you'll have to face is 5.0...but when you go to 4.3, you're suddenly at risk of running into some of the most infamous tanks in the game at 5.3 like the Jumbo and the IS-1. Similarly, you can tell before you even spawn if you've been uptiered or downtiered because your spawn costs will be lowered or raised, respectively. Some tanks that are very good at or below their BR become dramatically less effective in an uptier, especially heavy tanks, so save yourself some spawn points by not rolling out your KV-1 when there are a half-dozen Tigers on the field. Plus, if you save that heavy tank, it may prove invaluable in the lategame if it comes down to the wire. An uptiered heavy tank can really shine when the other team is down to the dregs of their lineup.
I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed a team on its last legs come back for a win out of nowhere because the last few people saved their Tigers for last. (Unfortunately this was always the enemy team lol)
This Is the hardest tip but best tip, learn to identify the enemies tanks you see and then learn the weak spots to hit, ie the difference between a kv-1 and a kv-2. You can fire endless rounds at a Kv-1 and do no damage but aim for its weak gunner viewing port just right of the gun and it will shoot straight thru. One shot a stug by hitting the flat part right of the barrel and learn where the ammo is kepted and you can one shot even a Maus by hitting it's ammo rack. It takes many games of practice but eventually killing tanks gets easier and easier.
Also on the stug, if you are at the same elevation with any AT or ATC round, if you shoot to the right bottom of the tank (if you are facing it, your right) you can knock the driver. If you aim where his upper body and head are, It’ll go through and knock out the gunner. I’ve one shot stug3s like this.
@@redacted5092 shoot anywhere around the gun and it penetrates. Also right under the gun is pentrable till you get to upper hull, shoot lower glacis, or shoot side of turret a loaded breech will often explode internally on is2 as well idk why, side shots into turret are almost always one shots as well because if ammo placement.
Always... ALWAYS CHECK YOUR CORNERS, press C and park right on the corner of a building or whatever and look around the corner this prevents you from being see and shot at and allows you to get the jump on someone unless they get you first
Pro tip: Machine gun bullets can destroy the tracks of enemy tanks. If your cannon is disabled and your tank has a machine gun, this is a good option if you’re in a desperate situation. You can use it to also spot the enemy on the map for your team mates and possibly briefly blind the enemy if you lay down machine gun fire on their gunner sight, assuming they aren’t using the third person camera.
Good luck with the track destroying if you don't have a .50 cal. Even if you do, it takes around 15-20 seconds(Not completely sure because no one really does that anyway) to do it, and lets just say 90% of the time you won't make it out alive, and it really doesn't affect the enemy much even if you take their track out. The best thing is to try to Machine gun out their barrel, because if you are successful at even making their barrel dark orange, they usually don't have RNGesus on their side so they will destroy their barrel by firing(more experienced players know to back off when the thing on the bottom left shows your gun is damaged or when their barrel is orange since the repair is quicker if your barrel isn't blacked out, and you have a chance for your teammates to come help you or even allow you to repair and destroy them. Also, the blinding only works at 300-500 meters. At 100 meters, it doesn't matter if you blind them if they have their gun already pointed at where they are shooting next. I do it when I'm about to die anyway because there isn't anything else to do, but generally it doesn't work too well when I do it.
@@kage_tactical M2 Browning is also a .50 cal. As I said, it takes around 15 seconds to destroy tracks, in which case you'll be dead. And it has more pen than Russian .50 cals. Also, even with a 75mm round from Sherman, it sometimes has trouble taking out tracks in one shot, especially if its a track from a heavy tank. Also, high tier tanks are phast, so they'll be right next to you before you can do any good amount of damage to the tracks. Generally going for cannon barrel is a better option, but you'll have to know where to hit on the cannon barrel. Pretty much, hit the most perpendicular part of the cannon barrel because if you hit the side and you are facing it, it will do no damage and just bounce off. If you make their barrel dark orange and they fire, it will misfire and completely take out their barrel, while a tank can still move even if their track is red(with lower efficiency though).
@@ajhiep4447 there are quite a few T-34s that can pen you from the front, and all T-34s from 4.3 to 6.3 can definitely pen you from the front, going from the T-34-57, the T-34-85, all the way to the T-34-100
Aj Hiep if you're talking about the American T34, that thing has a 120mm cannon with 282mm pen at 10m. And also I'm assuming you didn't angle and he was higher than you, or he shot you turret with only 185mm(H model) or 100-120mm(P model) of armor. It's quite easy to kill Tiger IIs frontally unless they are downtierd to 5.3(P)/5.7(H). Russian T-34 wise, T-34-85 can go through your turret if you are in a P model or I think the MG port is a valid shot too, not completely sure though.
Dude u forgot the most important tip: - if you're not playing american, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check your back for m22 locusts cuz those things are annoying as hell
I've been a world of Tank player for 7 years i come over to War Thunder love the game love the mechanics love everything about it your tips just help me out a lot thank you
I'll recommend using the protection analysis in the armor tab to simulate your shots, it's basically the most useful feature in this game (at least for me).
That a cool and all but I don't understand some of the numbers, especially effective thickness, what's that supposed to mean? And also, how am i supposed to know what guns I can survive?
@@redacted5092 aight so there's a couple of numbers, one is actual armor thickness, other is the slope of the armor, then there's also a variable angle number, which represents the slope of the tank relative to your tank, and effective thickness is how effectively the armor also when accounting to the slope. So a 125mm sloped armor at 50° can be effectively considered 200mm of armor
Extra Tipps from me: 1. Don't buy a high rank premium vehicle from early on, it will just ruin all the fun you could have. Wait at least until you are at rank 3 and then you can even think about a rank 4 premium vehicle. I wouldn't buy a rank 5 premium vehicle, because I think the most fun you can have is around rank 1-4. 2. Play some arcade battles before you can even think about realistic battles. Simulator has its own story especially when it comes to planes. Get a feeling for the game and then you can expand to other game modes. I'm Level 39, so I think I can call myself experienced. I often play realistic, but I still come back to arcade from time to time. 3. In Arcade mode you can call an aircraft: fighter, attacker or a bomber. If you are a fighter defend the allied attacker or bomber. Don't go for enemy tanks, because an air kill counts around the double and you help out your team. A good bomber pilot can get 4 kills or even more. 4. Choose your starter nation wisely. Good starter nations are the Germans and the Soviets. The Americans are also good at rank 1 but later it gets harder. It's pointless to start with a nation like Japan or France, because there you can't really specialize yourself. That's because the tech trees of Japan, France and Italy are very small, that means that there aren't many vehicles. Britain is in the middle. It has many vehicles but also many holes in the tech tree. 5. Every vehicle has a stat card. That's really important for planes, because there you can see the maximum speed, climb rate, turn rate, etc. Flying planes is a science by itself but it will help you at the beginning. 6. Don't teamkill. That means don't drop artillery on allies, don't push allied tanks from the map, don't drop bombs on allies and don't shoot allied planes down. If someone is going on your nerves, because of I don't know, maybe someone is inactive, teamkilling, vulgar language, etc, just report him. Because if you teamkill you can be reported by your own. 7. If someone is Level 22 and playing in a rank 4 battle let him do that, give him Tipps and help him and don't call him bad and useless like I have experienced it by myself. 8. Don't play with a bomber in air battles over rank 2, because you will be shot down after only a few minutes. Maybe Gaijin will fix this with new mechanics in the future, but by now just don't do it. 9. Don't under estimate your enemy. If you do it right you can destroy a rank 6 tank with your tiny rank 1 tank. I have shot down a F 100D and a MiG 19PT (top tier supersonic jets) in my Yak 3 (rank 3 prob plane). So don't under estimate your enemy or you will get a big embarrassing surprise. 10. If you have a bit of experience, like me, go out there and tell the others what they should do and what not. Tell them every little trick. That way you can get friends. And we all know, that are the most fun when playing them together. If you have questions about War Thunder just ask it. There are enough players and you tubers out there who will answer them.
@Nguyen Nam In a tank go to a friendly capture point and stay still. In Air arcade, there will be a cooldown timer and in Air RB you need to go back to the airfield to rearm.
tips:-set your strategy while loading before the match -you must know the enemy's weakspots and your weakspots -do not bring too much ammo -if you counter a heavily armored tanks, shoot the gun barrel or gun breech and find their weakspots -set your control for better performance
1. Shooting the cannon breech has the same effect as knocking out the gunner 2. extra cautious at vegetation because there are tanks covered with bushes 3. not just research parts and FPE but crew replenishment is also vital 4. the light tank spotting system is very useful as spotting an enemy for everyone and you’ll get a kill assist if the spotted tank is eliminated 5. memorizing every turret rotation speed and weapon depression is vital as your tank might tilted up for a bit and facing an enemy who will circle you 6. make sure you bring someone you trust in a squad so you can beg your squadmate to tow your tank if damaged 7. Smoke shells are pretty useful for annoying your enemy 8. The best place to shoot a tank is the side 9. Use the “attention to the map” wisely 10. Don’t use the default paint especially the german tank and unnecessary decals because they give no tactical advantage whatsoever This is my tips, hopefully this will be useful
I agree with most of them just got some things I want to mention. Depending on which tank, you want to get new rounds before crew replenishment since you literally might be able to do nothing without better rounds. Memorizing rotation speed an depression is unnecessary as you can check right before you click to battle and you can check any time by clicking 'M' by default(unless changed), and hovering your mouse over your vehicle.Best place to shoot a tank is the side isn't always true. I'm mainly talking about light tanks. Sometimes, tanks like that cancerous r3 have so little side armor(8 mm or something like that) that hitting it with AP and any form of APHE will guarantee only 1 or 2 crew members killed. Unless you have HEAT, HESH, or HE loaded(Hull_break.exe), you want to shoot lightly armored targets from the front. Also, minor thing, Shooting a cannon breech and killing a gunner is quite different. Yes, you lose the ability to fire temporarily for both, but you get a gunner back automatically as long as you have more than 2 crew, while of your breech is out, you have to find somewhere to hide, hold 'F'(;)) by default, and repair while you can't move. Otherwise, this list is very nice.
1. Not true, 3. There are sometimes more vital things than that, 4. Not true, those are not kill assists, 6. Towing is close to useless, 7. And annoy your teammates in process, 8. Not true, 9. Almost noone pays attention to that anyway.
4. Those are assists. Next time you play the M24 or Puma or whatever, go scout and when the person gets killed, check the leaderboard, it counts as an assist. It doesn't count as assists for warbond thing and events like SUFFER, but it counts as an assist otherwise. 6. Towing is not useless. You just have to use max Cruise control instead of holding W and make sure your two rope is not too long. 7. Is you use it right, it won't annoy your teammates(e.g. don't shoot smoke right in front of your teammates. And if your teammate is repairing, go pop a smoke for them. And if none of your team can kill a tank like Maus or down tiered Tigor II, then pop a smoke right in front of the Enemy tank or in the middle and retreat. 9. I don't know if you've played War thunder recently but almost everyone 5.0+ pays attention to that unless they are in a plane and the map is too unspecific. Just look how many teams CCs use attention to the map. I'll give you a hint: A lot. How do you not pay attention if you're playing and the game blares "ATTENTION TO THE DESIGNATED GRID SQUARE!"
@@DunkaDunka330 1. If it's destroyed, it does, except repairing it usually takes longer. If it's red or orange, and the enemy isn't paying enough attention, they can end up destroying their own tank. 4. They're kill assists. 6. It's as useful as your teammates are. Also, if you hold a movement key, it'll be easier to tow your tank. 7. Comment above. 8. Most of the time, you have a better chance of penetrating compared to the front.
I’ve killed 10 players in arcade mode once, but I tried hopping in to one realistic match, got one shotted with every tank I had. It’s real harsh towards newbies.
I'd actually correct a couple of these slightly, personally. 3. Regarding ammo, yes, less is typically better, however don't get carried away. There are some vehicles with not a lot of ammo to begin with, or there are vehicles that will most likely be one shot 9 times out of 10 anyway (Smaller vehicles with tightly packed crew), I'd say don't be too worried about ditching ammo in those tanks. 4. I do agree about not shooting the same place twice, however sometimes this isn't the best decision. Let's say, for example, you are shooting the drive wheel of a tank around a corner, or you have an enemy in a position where you don't have the option to shoot wherever you want. If you disable a vehicle and/or it's crew, you can count to around 8-15 seconds until the crew starts to get replaced, which at that time, is when you can shoot again. So if you are shooting a hull down tank, disable it's turret and crew, just wait about 10 seconds and shoot again when the crew switches around and it should be a kill. And yes, you can actually take out the same crew member more than once. Crew replace each other until there are only 2 left, at which point is an instant kill if either of them get knocked out. 8. I don't agree with this one at all actually. It's better to have all 5 slots if you can afford it, because the more spawns you have the choice of, the better (at least for RB, not sure how AB works anymore). This is because for a good loadout, you're going to want 3 of your top/best tanks, a fighter plane, and a bomber/attacker if you have any planes. If you are strictly tanks then you will want at least 1 TD and/or 1 SPAA as they are usually cheap to spawn in but still useful. If you absolutely insist on only using 3 slots, then if you find a tank that you really enjoy and do well in, put that in your highest skill crew, and just keep doing so as you go up the line. Also don't forget to purchase expert training on the crew with your favorite vehicles so you have better stats with them (reload time, crew replacement time, crew durability, etc.) I have all slots for most nations aside from Japan, and Italy, and it is sooo helpful. I can't tell you how many matches would have been a loss for me had I not had the extra 2-6 slots to spawn in. It also massively increases your potential effectiveness, as you can take all different types of vehicles ready for any situation. My own personal tip that comes to mind immediately, would be to not use APCR. Like, ever. The AP Solid shot rounds got buffed a bit ago and are pretty powerful depending on the size, however APCR and APDS is just awful. I always try to avoid using either of them unless I need the extra penetration to knock out specific parts of a tank like the engine, transmission, turret ring, or certain crew members), otherwise I cut my losses and pick another fight. The reason being, is that unlike AP (explosive filler or solid shot), APCR/APDS does little to no spalling damage, or fragmentation, meaning that your shell will just go straight, and whatever is in the immediate path of the shell will sometimes get taken out but that's it. So yea, despite what the penetration tables say, AP rounds are better than APDS or APCR. APFSDS>HEATFS>APCBC/APBC/AP/>APDS>APCR
yeah about the APCR I think it's debatable 'cause for ex. one time I was playing my APCBC couldn't pen a heavy tank. However he was at close range so i switched to the APCR and killed his crew ,so I guess it depends on your distance and penetration. that's why while I almost never use then i always carry 4-6 APCR's
@@djyppo There are times where it may be required, but most times it's not even worth it. Chances of doing critical damage to an enemy is not very high, so it gives them plenty of chance to return fire. If I require the use of APCR, I usually just don't take the shot to begin with unless absolutely necessary.
@@ValkyrieLightwing Yeah, never use APCR as your main shell type, except for some French low tiers. I've met people in the game who wonder how they couldn't penetrate this enemy or that enemy. Then I speak with them for a short while and I noticed they were using APCR only. When I told them to use the other ammo types they said. "But those shells are low penetration, I prefer high penetration." As if there wasn't a tradeoff.. or any difference other than the penetration.
The best tip i have for starters, is when you shoot at the tank, look at the damage log on the top right. I reccomend looking for ammo that you can destroy
Know your maps. Know where to go, what routes are fastest, where the enemy is likely to be, and what areas work best for your vehicle. Knowing your maps is a huge strategic advantage. It's real easy as a beginner to do two things: following the crowd and shy from exploring. Both of these are likely the result of War Thunder's unforgiving gameplay. After a few matches of getting pummeled by the enemy team, it's natural to want to stay with the crowd for meat shields and stick to the areas you already know. However, you don't know if you're missing out on a location you might really enjoy, stragglers that won't expect you, or a good flank around the enemy team. My advice to new players would be to not be afraid of venturing out and into the unknown regions of the map. It's more than likely you'll find a path or location that works really well for your style of play. Above all, don't worry about dying; so what if you do? It's not like the game deletes itself if you die to many times. Live and learn.
This is a great tip, and I have to admit I'm one of those who fall into the "sticks with what they know" when it comes to map areas. Its definitely a good idea to explore though and you're right - if you die, so what? You just learned something and go into the next game a little bit wiser :)
+ 1: Go into settings and turn on the option for hiding the grass while using binoculars and lenses. 2: Define a key to toggle max/min zoom(default: Z) 3: Position in shadows and pits where only the turret is visible
But if you cripple it but can’t seem to kill him, don’t stick around trying to hit him. I’ve gotten tunnel vision Ed into trying to kill him that I get hit by another tank I didn’t notice.
Here's a tip: Don't make a beeline for objectives. Straight across fields. In broad daylight. Just don't. Cover is kind of important, there are too many tank destroyers
Tip: Look at the map and set zero of your gun so you don't have to guess every time. On small maps to mid maps I set my for 400m and mid to high at 600m-800m. That way you can immediately aim and shoot. Faster the projectile the better - smaller adjustments. With howitzers this works as well. On KV2 and M4 105 I usually set my zero at 200m and hit every time.
A TIP: when you are in a plane and you see a bomber or any plane with a back gunner like the JU 87-b never follow it from the back. attack it either from over it or under it . edited: And if you are on ps4 and you play on controller trust me change and use keybord and mouse with the ps4 because when using a controller you are at a big disadvantages and like me i changed from controller to mouse and keybord and the next round i won with 5 tanks kills and 2 airplane kills and before that i would get max 2 tanks kills and 0 plane kills so consider changing.
Something ive noticed at the mid tiers is that no one uses smoke rounds properly. These can be so useful. I always see players aim near them to cover themselves with smoke, but use your smoke rounds to fire it near or on the enemy. This will alert your teammates to an enemy position, and make it more difficult and time consuming for them to spot you as they have to move out of their spot to see you whilst they're covered in smoke. It won't do any damage, but repositioning correctly can allow you to kill a target you wouldn't normally knock out that quick from the front
It isn't until rank 2 that I got a tank with smoke shells, and it was an SPG, so it's reload was around 10 seconds. Switching shells from damage to non-damage is a risky move, since you have to shoot the shell and reveal your muzzle flash to switch back to damaging ones unless you had already prepared the shell.
Here's the tip, shoot the open-topped vehicle or another lightly armored gun carrier or maybe SPAA with your secondary. The 50.cal and 20mm autocannon is so effective tho (damn my english is so bad, sry)
11. Patience is a virtue. 12. Never try to fight when you know you can't win. Wait for more reinforcements or when your opponent makes a mistake 13. If you can't kill a tank and you repetitively encounter that tank go to the protection analysis and find a weak spot. (People have trouble killing KVs but they are the easiest tanks for me to kill cause I found their weak spot.) 14. Know your tanks 15. Angle. Angle. Angle. (One of my fondest memories of play the KV1 is when I took on 5 American tanks on my own and got 5 kills with the KV1because I angled) 16. Dont just immediately repair. Find cover or run away.
Thank you for this! I'm very used to arcade style games where there is little fog and obstructions and everything is clear and point-and-shoot. I wanted to try WT but it was super frustrating rushing in and getting blown up randomly, these tips will definitely help me.
If you spot a tank and miss use your mg to mark them for the rest of the team placing them on the map for everyone to see! And if you can’t hit them with your mg in time or your getting shot and they knock out your gunner press m and click on the map where they are!
Some tips I’ve learned while playing the game: 1. Always face your enemy, never show them your back 2. Play it safe. Always go with the safest option instead of the risky one 3. Stay near teammates, strength in numbers 4. Use prot. analysis to find other tanks week spots while not in battle 5. Every class of vehicle is useful 6. Bulldozer blades were added for a reason, use them 7. If you play the game to have fun, you’ll have a better time than just playing to grind
Lots of good tips already covered but here's a few rare tips, in stock setting the "I" key turns off your engine, this is good if you need to hide from the enemy or are trying to ambush, one caveat to that us that you are only on battery power and it does go pretty quickly once battery power is gone you lose a lot of turret rotation speed. To restart the engine double tap forward or reverse. Learn to hide and something to think about usually the first foot of a hill or snow drift has a weird bug you can shoot through them. This is good when using the binos to aim your shot (activate binos and click and the turret will rotate to where the binos are aiming) however another trade off is that when you think you are hull down and the enemy launches a shell through the top of the hill and gets your hull instead of your well protected turret. Some buildings can be shot through with solid shot, however exploding rounds will be set off. You can use this to your advantage as well if having trouble seeing tanks you can destroy some buildings in order to get a shot. Another thing artillery and bombers who have large bombs can completely erase sections of the map, if you know a bomber (like the PE-8) has just carpet bombed an area, dont expect the cover to still be there also as a bomber if you have large bombs and you cant find it see the enemy, sometimes it can be useful in urban maps to just bomb areas of the map you know a lot of tanks drive through. You might not hit anything but you will expose the area. Learn ambush tactics, but dont rely on them. Most tanks arent good in the ambush role but some tanks are. It's good to learn what can and cant be used for ambush so that you know what to look for when moving through areas, another aspect of that is watching for trees and plants falling, watching to see moving shadows or straight lines in an area that's odd to see straight lines (like the forest). Also look for dust kickup from enemy shots, when the enemy shoots smoke and dust appear and can be a good way of telling whether or not an enemy is hiding. Also patience, this is key. I even struggle with this, if you know it's a well travelled area dont shoot the first guy you see because now you have just alerted the enemy to your presence. People can follow your shell travel back to you. Another aspect of this is to not push to far ahead. Dont follow enemies out into the open, dont let them bait you over hills, mark the tank and let them come to you, pushing to far will have you battling a tank without friendly help, an assist is better than having to respawn. I hesitate to offer this last bit if advice because many people do this in games that matter but it's ok to take some time figuring out how to manuever your tank and how to spot enemies. Dont do this in actual battles. Plenty of custom battles exist you can go into those and they dont effect peoples stats. Two tips for marking enemies, if you hold M you bring up the tactical map, then click and it will ping those coordinate yo your friendlies as a warning. Do not spam it, people especially in RB have so much to look at you spamming a spot is just a distraction. Secondly certain vehicles can spot enemy vehicles. You can either use the binos or the gun sight and press V this will mark a target. Finally, accept that you will have bad games. I'm a reasonably average player. I do somewhat well and even have some epic ace/double ace matches under my belt, that said I have plenty of matches with 1 or no kills. Sometimes it's the tanks and sometimes I'm just not playing well. Some tanks arent good at killing other tanks (the churchill MK VII comes to mind) it's not a high penetrating gun and it's slow and while it can kill it's just not good outside of being up tiered. You will make almost all you spawn points from it by bouncing shells. Or sometimes you just had bad luck, random wifi mess up or you just played badly and all of that is ok, just drop into a new game and learn from your mistakes. In one game I had a streak of deaths when I started because I kept running into this one way more experienced player who just kept beating me. Learn your tanks and study them, there is an entire wiki devoted to tanks on war thunder and it's great. It will teach you alot up to and including how many rounds you should load.
Quick tip: When dropping arty close range, it might be easier to use the alternate arty mode. When in the arty dropping map, use the middle mouse button to take you to a view centered on your tank, from which you can click on the ground where the enemy tank is (or where you are if you need it danger close).
My tip: Do not spearhead the enemy, if you push the map alone or you pushed a vital position of the map (i.e. capture zone) I learned that the hard way while in a T26E1-1, I faced through a Maus, a Leopard I, and 3 R3's, just dont push alone, bring a meatba- I mean teammate with you, just do it
Here are my tips as a WT vet. Spend your silver to give all your crews basic training and buy every crew slot. Fill the slots with a variety of vehicle types all at the same BR. Don't waste time looking at stats (especially crew stats). Stay close to your teammates. Play the objective. Play multiple nations' early BR vehicles. Do all that and you'll notice a few things: first, the grind isn't nearly as bad as it's said to be; second, you'll start dying less after you learn the low tier strategy of not getting hit; third, you'll be able to determine your playstyle gradually and you'll overall have more fun with the game. Alternatively, you can keep the default crews and struggle with limited vehicles; pore through stats and figures that won't help your gameplay; use one nation's vehicles and only the best you have available; and generally continue wondering why all you do is die and you never have any fun with the game. o7 commander.
Me and my bud just got the game yesterday. And we were having problems in ground battles so I decided to find videos and yours was the most helpful. Thanks for the tips!
The size of the tech tree determines how many crew I use... Russia, USA, Germany: 5 Japan, France, Italy, GB: 4 Sweden, China: 3 Also: Decide when you start your session whether you are grinding for a new vehicle, working to spade a vehicle, achieving objectives, or focusing on earning SL. This way you can tailor which vehicles you take out and how you used them in game. It will also allow you to manage the use of boosters, wagers, and reserve vehicles. For example, if you are playing to spade a recent purchase, you will remember to activate a reserve vehicle when you play a 200% RP booster. You will get to keep researching upgrades even if you get taken out if you have the reserve ready.
It's probably been said before but try to learn the armor layout of tanks. The armor preview in the hangar is a great tool for that, you can even go into the protection analysis and select the tanks you're playing to see where you can pen most reliably. Ammo types are also pretty important. The shell with the most penetrating power isn't the best in a lot of cases. APCR for example has a lot of penetration but doesn't do much once inside the tank. So it might be beneficial to ditch some penetrating power for post-pen damage. Again, play around in the protection analysis in the hangar. You can also preview (and test drive, though only some) vehicles you don't already own in the hangar to look for weakpoints in thier armor or their crew and components layout. A lot of tank lines also have very similar weakpoints so you don't have to remember all of the different tanks. The most prominent weakpoint in the game is probably the lower plate on british MBTs. Also similar tanks often have similar crew layouts and ammoracks.
WoT tactics but can work in warthunder; Sidescraping! If you are in a tank like perhaps a kv, drive towards a building and angle your tank (the side armour ) at an extreme angle. Novice players would shoot you, giving you a small room of time to shoot back. Also you can do a different version, reverse sidescraping which is technically the same however you put your rear in front, now before you tell me that the rear is the weakest armour, it can do work however it is risky. Doing reverse sidescraping will most of the time disable your engine and cause fire however the engine block can also serve as bonus armour if you may. Happy Tanking!
Another tip I found useful is when you are in the garage scroll over the icon of your tank in the lineup, then hover over crew (which should be the last one) and click on it, you can upgrade crew abilities there which can make spotting easier, repair times quicker and, improve the tanks handling trust me its super easy and it helps EDIT: Most new players don't spot this
Well I know this is pretty old, and you haven't done content on this game for a while, but it came in suggested and I am trying to get into gf again, and between your 10 and the comments, it all seems covered, except one thing; the problem with smoking up is that it doesn't just block your enemy's view, it also blocks your team's view, which means you effectively cut off your support from assisting you. Don't expect to live forever, as you will respawn, and don't die in vein. Same could be said for arty strikes meant to clear areas, or just create dusty messes, can often ruin shots for teammates. I found this out recently while watching OddBawz, a very good player and youtuber. Nice video Jedi/oake/mark
Tip. If you shoot the barrel on tiger 2 with m22 it wont do anything. If you shoot the wider part of the barrel near the turret, it instantly disables the barrel. You cant pen anything else on a tiger 2 so run away while he repairs his barrel. Tip 2. Look at grays of enemy tanks, find ammo and engines and see if you can pen that spot. I used to get 10-12 kills a game at 2.0-4.0 because I always knew where to shoot for an ammo rack.
The most important tip: don't give up... It sounds cheesy, but you will face a lot of bullshit in this game, and if it isn't it will certainly feel like it. With 36 hours on the game I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times.
This game honestly reminds me of the iFunny community, we all get pissed and swear we hate this game, we warn new users to manage their stress, but we still have fun with it and I don't think there would be something to replace it.
I understand now that is a game were you can choose to flank the map and camp , or rush to the points but keep in mind there is a 60/70% chance to die. Also try to be aware of the situation if your team is kicking ass or viceversa , know if the enemy are spread through the map or concentrated
Top tip: you always have more time than the other guy. Never push a corner unless you know there’s nothing that can hit you around there. Let them push you and keep an eye out for any smarter players who flank
Even though ive only had 1 week of playing war thunder, Here is a tip i noticed that works for me very well There are some attacking styles i know that ive seen in the game. Your first style is the flank and spank tactic, the key to this tactic is to have a fast tank of course. (Preferably the Soviet light tanks). You have to escape the enemies gun all the time, and you need to aim for the sides and the back. And you always have to fire first before the enemy. Your weakness is a tank that has a fast rotating turret and can easily shoot you If this fighting style doesn't suit you then try the assault tactic. You need to have a heavy tank that can soak up alot of damage. This tactic needs a heavy tank because you will need to survive alot of bullets. Your gun needs to be strong enough to shoot and penetrate a tank easily. Your only weakness is a light tank that can penetrate your weak spots If your still not into this tactic then try the sniping tactic, this tactic can be used with any tank that has a really good shooting range. As the title says, you will snipe the enemy from afar. The key to this tactic is to always have cover that you can hide on in case of a tank that has spotted you. Those are all the tactics i know in my 1 week of playing, My favorite tactic is the flank and spank tactic. If you have reached the end of this comment, Hoped this helped you in your tanking
A tip from me: stand your ground. But not too much, don't hesitate to take cover if it gets overwhelming. But if you stand your ground and prevent the enemy from flanking around to your sides or rear. You can get several kills in a short period of time.
Tip: Know your enemy If you are using a vehicle that has a lacking gun or a tank with good armour, it’s good to go over the general vehicles you will fight at your br. This can really help prioritize enemies when in a heavy tank.
Another tip: get a really solid lineup you perform well with for getting silver lions. If you ever need to save up for a vehicle this makes it much better
Also dont underestimate the use of the flak panzer with universal rounds. Speedy and quick with the guns which is perfect for outgunning the light tanks and artillery trucks and planes. Ive also wrecked heavy but you have to line up your recoil to hit the sweet spot to unalive the crew
Huge tip here, go into your settings and change your sniper mode to boresight rather than gunners sight. This works for AB and RB. The actual gunners sights are usually pretty offset from the gun, especially on later Sherman's and tiger models. This is incredibly frustrating to deal with if your trying to knife fight in urban areas.
There are two points missing for me: 1. Most of the skill you can develope in War Thunder is by knowing the maps and the good spots on a map, so don't be discouraged if you don't have good rounds the first hours you play War Thunder. Also try to go the same routs on the same map so that you get used to at least one part of the map. The longer you play you then can try out new places on a map 2. If you want to play realistic battles go into the sound settings and turn down your own engine sound and turn up all other enige sounds. This helps alot, because you can often hear the enemys befor you can seen them and you can guess the direction roughly where the enemy is comming from
Play the tanks as their designed. Each tank is different. If your in a tank destroyer chances are you have longer range - stay back when you can and shoot from afar. (Becomes more common in higher tiers) If your in a heavy tank - feel free to push forward in the front lines but listen and watch for anyone trying to hit your flanks or weak spot. (If turret; swing it around and make it hard to hit) If your tank is fast - find a good firing position fast unseen on the enemies flanks (These maybe contested - so you want to look out for those folks first)
mark just a tip the range finder does not work very well at longer rangers some tanks have a upgraded version of the ranger finder for longer rangers so dont always trust it have a good day
Hi there - some more advice: 1.) You can Repair your Tank on a friendly CAP (recently updates allow to battle repair mobility to go there!) 2.) 3 Crewslots are OK für Arcade Tanks, but for Realistic Battles you should consider more like (3 for Tanks 1 for a AAA and at least 1 for a plane) 2.1) You really want a AAA to cover the Skies or pulloff a Comeback (in realistic) after loosing your tanks, and for Tanks -> Tankdestroyers and Light Tanks often get "Cheap" spawns, so you often can get 3-4 Spawns if you play smart (land + air) 3.) You can shoot a Tank twice the same Spot BUT - you have to wait at least 8 Seconds (for best crewskill) to replace the spot (Gunner or Driverposition are active until the tank is destroyed) 4.) Bring the right Plane - often Fighters (with a Payloadoption) are more useful than full Groundattacker. I bring 1 Fighter and 1 Groundattacker to the table.
Tip: Have exclusive spots for 1 fighter plane 1 attacker and 1 for your AA in your lineup, rest of the spots have your "main tanks" Basically how I have my current russian lineup is: 1 Fighter 1 Attacker (Or bomber) 4 Tanks 1 AA and 1 Helicopter, this way you can split your crew xp better.
Another advice that helps a lot almost at any tank is angeling the armor, you need to try to show your armor at an angle towards the enemy, that makes your armor more effective and harder to penetrate
Amateur tip: when you use the rangefinder you can calubrate your gun so the gun mives up but the sight stays in position (some tanks have do it automatically)
If you hold the fire button in binos and switch to 3rd person or sniper mode you will autofire. Rangefinder has crew based error / +- 10 for 100m, +-100m for 1000m etc. Honestly don't get spotted in the first place You can respawn more than 3 times. Have a line up with different type of tanks, light medium, heavy , SPAA, TD, ground attack aircraft, fighter . Shooting MG through s oke is more dangerous for you.
another life saving tip for tanks with long reload times: use machine gun whenever possible spaa=>machinegun aircfaft=>machinegun light tank=> machine gun if effective only use main gun if any other weapon in your arsenal dosent work... edit: thanks for the heart... im really happy oh yeah btw another thing... MIND IF I CAN GET AN OPINION?
A big tip for me when I was in some of those early stages of tech trees is if you don’t know where someone’s ammo is in their tank when you shoot them you will see an x-ray of their tank, you can see their ammo in that x-ray then you can aim for that ammo
The only critique I have about this list is the crew training section. Although it is true that many crews causes them to progress slower, the difference between a trained crew and a stock crew (not including premium crews, something new players wont need to worry about till significantly later) is fairly minimal. I would however suggest giving your crews roles. Say you have one crew for your anti air gun, one for light tanks, an aircraft if you're playing realistic, medium tanks, etc. just be sure they're all similar BRs :)
Be nice, Help others repair if your near. Apologize if you accidentally hit them. I usually assist others that are nice to me more than those that are rude.
this was actually had good suggestions for beginners. I would add that if you are having trouble learning maps try arcade mode. this way you can see enemy name plates and where they go.
As you said, visibility is the key to the game. One of the most beneficial things I've done in the game is turning off grass in the sniper scope! When you're hull down, the grass can greatly hinder your ability to see targets, and this is a simple setting in the options. Do this!!!!
Definitely keep ammunition down, I wholeheartedly agree. However, there are certain clauses for this. If all your ammunition is on the bottom or in the rear of the turret, it’s fairly safe to load up. However, if your ammo is in the sides or, god forbid, the front, try to keep the shells down
Apparently the British were guilty of stuffing their tanks full of ammo in WW2 also, which I think is why they tended to blow up so easily! Nice to see the mechanic in the game anyway, it makes sense :)
Never forget that your gun is not directly behind your gunner sight, it’s always somewhere to the side or maybe even above or below , adjust your shots according to this
-Viewing the tanks in armor pen mode that you see the most or are very armored to find how to best destroy them. -Use test drive to learn how to estimate distance -Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the tanks you use. (spend a lot of time in armor pen viewer) -don't use the default key setup. Make your own. -use free camera view -spam 50 cal close range onto barrel or gun sight to blind the enemy -really try to identify tanks before shooting at them. Ex) popping out of cover because you mistake the jumbo in front of you for a regular Sherman. Or Churchill VII for Churchill III.
My problem is If I get hit once I'm either instant dead or can't move or shoot anymore. When I shoot someone else nothing happens. And most of the time I die because the cross won't get green Forgot to mention that I pretty much always get killed through the whole map I just see the enemy bullet traveling 100km over 3 hills, 2 rivers and perfectly close around house edges to hit me
Use headphones and turn off your engine when not on the move. You want to hear the enemy flanking you and you dont want them to hear you around the corner
So I'm late as hell to this party, but I do have one tip to add given the most recent updates to war thunder. Since tanks remain on the battlefield when destroyed now, it can sometimes be a pain to tell whats alive and whats not. An easy way to figure out if what you're looking at is alive or not is to pepper it with a few mg rounds. But if you want to remain silent, there are three seperate ways to tell. 1. The tank is charred and black when destroyed. Difficult to tell at a distance sometimes, but it can help with tanks that are usually painted bright(ish) colours by default. 2. The hatches are popped open. On top of a dead tanks turret, the hatches for the cupola will be opened so this can be an easy way to tell at a moments glance. Hatches closed? Probably alive. Hatches busted open? Dead. 3. BUSHES MEAN ALIVE! If you see a tank with any sort of bush on it (put there via customization) it's not dead! When you die with bushes on your tank, the game removes them from your corpse! Hopefully these can help some of you guys land a few extra kills, and feel free to comment any extra tips you might have to help people aswell! Hope everyone stays safe and have an amazing new year!
I have a good hint for aircraft, whenever you do a stall climb or just a loop, when you get to the top put your flaps back to raised it will help you recover faster.
I played another tank game for 3 years before somebody told me there was a reload key for guns with magazines - before that I thought you had to empty it :D
Almost all tanks share some common "weakspots" From the front you csn shoot at if you don't have penetration, these are: machinegun mantlets, vision ports, the "cheeks" Of the turret (to the sides of the cannon) lower plates, commander cupola and turret ring. If none of these work run as fast as you can or try to destroy their cannon, then their tracks, at that point they can't shoot or move so you can move to their side or back and penetrate there.
Thank you so much for this video, before I wasnt getting wins for literal months and after changing my playstyle up to be more support based and began using my binoculars more Im starting to actually have fun with the game again
How to survive in this game:
1.Stay near teammate
2. Aim center mass when fighting medium tanks or light tanks
3. Angle armor (especially when using a Tiger)
With kv 1 you are like indestructible if you angle it :D
Ray Tastic yeah and it kills my Tiger 30* frontal easily.
When confronted with indestructible higher BR tanks, cornered, destroy their cannons or gun breech then flee or flank.
Terra Gaia yeah does not work with my Hypershot BR2,7 234/2 on IS-2s and these M4s...
How do you angle the armor?
I still dont understand lol
No. 11 *Always attack the D point*
*Affirmative!*
*defend the D point!*
Attack the enemy Base !
*Roger that!*
I Refuse!
>tries playing
>some random boi pens my angled frontal armor when he wasn’t aiming for me
>destroys desk
Literally me right now I just smashed the shit out of my desk
[Redacted] i though you wrote some random bli penis pens my angeld
Weed Turtle13 hahaha 😂 I always wonder if other people lose their shit also...fast alt f4 will save ur poor desk tho
Desk: my time has come
Perm chat banned now. I hate ground rb..
When you have more than 1600 hour in war thunder and still watching this kind of videos
Update: now i have 2k
3k on me
2.5k for me
1k for me
5.4k on me.
jesus, i need a life
FREEZING MOOOONNNN !!!!
My tips are: Don't be in a hurry to die...Being in a rush to be the first to capture a position, normally means you are first to make contact with the enemy and you are often all alone. Which brings me onto my second tip which is don't be a lone gunman, you will have a lot more success when you hunt as a pack.
Side note : this tips work only with good teammates , sometimes your teammate will just leave you alone when you approach them
ape together strong
I normally used to cap and first only if I got a good headstart. The moment I reached Cap point I would actively search for a house or object to hide behind and start the Capping. If teammates couldn't catch up then just smoke up the whole area and try to bugger off ASAP. Capping points always gave me some much needed SL.
But it also helps to have a tank with good speed like M24 or else it becomes too risky
Hunt like a wolfpack.
A few extra tips:
You can key-bind controls to adjust the range on your gun-sight ( _ie "zeroing" the gun_ ).
A *_quick_* ammo guide:
*_As of update 2.5 "Ixwa Strike" the game mechanic "hullbreak" has been replaced with "overpressure". Any projectile with HE filler can cause overpressure. If a projectile detonates and causes enough damage to internal modules then the game will activate the overpressure mechanic, damaging or killing all crew members within a crew compartment due to excessive pressure. Tanks with divided crew compartments will only experience overpressure in the compartment that was hit and open-top vehicles may be instantly killed by ammunition exploding several meters away from them._
*----- KINETIC AMMUNITION ----*
-*SH (Shrapnel)* : This ammunition is only found on a few Soviet tanks and maybe some other tanks.
*---- CHEMICAL AMMUNITION ----*
All chemical ammunition retains its penetration regardless of range and will cause overpressure* upon detonation.
*---- ADDITIONAL ABBREVIATIONS ----*
-*C ("Capped" rounds)* : Any round with a C in its designation such as" APC" (Armor Piercing Capped), has a cap on it. The cap gives it better penetration vs sloped armor.
-*BC ("Balistic Capped" rounds)* : Any round with a BC in its designation such as APHEBC, APBC, etc.. has a ballistic cap on it, which improves penetration at range as well as penetration against sloped armor.
_Some ammo will have a combination of these such as APCBC._

also got tips for grinding early german vehicles? you have no idea how many times i died because the panzer3/4's got no armour, a tree for a commander hatch, no gun traverse, and no turret traverse to respond to any threat that genuinely tries to kill them. and of course, the early light tank destroyers suffer from that problem 2x harder. i can't get into aggressive sniper positions because of this, and especially not head into towns as i can't tank, can't traverse towards any target, nor point the gun. it just takes far too much time to get into firing position for it to be feasible against someone who's aware of you. and don't get me started on defending against flanking maneuvers in cities or on the outskirts, because i have been killed and been too slow to fire at tanks for turning like a ft 17 far too many times. that has also led to alot of deaths when trying to camp the far flan bushlines. i could of course just sit back and play super passively as a far backline sniper, but that seems to net me 0 caps and maybe 1 kill a match as nothing really comes near the back lines unless the enemy is pushing your cap point.
Adjusting the range of the sight is called zeroing.
wow dud thx
I think I've already said this before, but use headphones and turn engine noises up in the volumes controls. This allows you to hear and enemy shifting gear or moving spatially (which direction they are coming from) without being able to see them.
Is their a way to turn off your engine in ground force? (Or tank)
@@noonex3891 No, the only way for that to happen is if you engine gets knocked out. You cannot start or stop your engine, even if you stand still the engine will still be running.

just turn your engine noise as low as possible and keep enemy engine noise at 100

Tip: Only fire if you are sure you'll do critical damage (engine, crew, turret drive etc.). If you shoot and your shell has done no effective damage what you've just done is given your position away for no reason.

What’s considered critical damage to begin with, i crit hit enemy tank, then it was able to move and shoot, then wtf did i hit?
Another tip...you can repair your tank (even without parts), replace a crew member (if it's unlocked) and restock ammo in a friendly capture point.

I agree, if you play RB then you need all five slots for some tanks plus spaa and aircraft.
Remember this help is aimed at new players. They won't (I still don't) have enough vehicles of a similar rating to fill 5 crew slots :)

If you don’t know where to shoot, shoot center of mass, usually you will get a good hit
Or the back/side of the turret(s)
what is center of mass?
Turret ring/middle of the hull. Aiming for that region is especially effective if your target is showing his side to you.
My tips are four words;
Be an actual teammate
Mine is one: Flank.
They turn their turret around and I get an assist.
how do a newbie be an actual teammate if you don't educate them to be a better player at the first place?
That’s 5

Good one.
The Germans have red tracers late tree.
once you have played long enough you will be able to use the force to determine where to aim
I'd better get back to my Jedi training then! ;)
(Unfortunately this was always the enemy team lol)
great example.. but 4.3 for me is gold because of the flak 88, stug 42, sturmpanzer, and AAs
KV-2s are my easiest tank to spot, it's basically "oh just look for the Fridge on tracks"
I need help killing IS-2 face to face. Had that experience today on a hill
If tanks had good enough zoom for it.

@@MrEnric98 it allows you to look around without moving your turret or plane
@@kevinl2482 what about the kord hmg, its a russian 50 cal right,
@@kage_tactical M2 Browning is also a .50 cal.
@@kevinl2482 some Russian heavys have 14.5mm wich is really good for tracks

Extra Tipps from me:
There are enough players and you tubers out there who will answer them.

tips:-set your strategy while loading before the match
-you must know the enemy's weakspots and your weakspots
-do not bring too much ammo
-if you counter a heavily armored tanks, shoot the gun barrel or gun breech and find their weakspots
-set your control for better performance
1. Shooting the cannon breech has the same effect as knocking out the gunner
2. extra cautious at vegetation because there are tanks covered with bushes
3. not just research parts and FPE but crew replenishment is also vital
4. the light tank spotting system is very useful as spotting an enemy for everyone and you’ll get a kill assist if the spotted tank is eliminated
5. memorizing every turret rotation speed and weapon depression is vital as your tank might tilted up for a bit and facing an enemy who will circle you
6. make sure you bring someone you trust in a squad so you can beg your squadmate to tow your tank if damaged
7. Smoke shells are pretty useful for annoying your enemy
8. The best place to shoot a tank is the side
9. Use the “attention to the map” wisely
10. Don’t use the default paint especially the german tank and unnecessary decals because they give no tactical advantage whatsoever
This is my tips, hopefully this will be useful
Number 2: *Vietnam*
War thunder realistic battles could be really challenging for new players . Thanks Mark good video as always
Thanks!
Yeah I tried it and can't even see the guys shooting at me.
I’ve killed 10 players in arcade mode once, but I tried hopping in to one realistic match, got one shotted with every tank I had. It’s real harsh towards newbies.
@@redacted3557 Yeah, I'ma ruin your fun...
In the start 90% of the people in the enemy team are bots.
[Redacted] when I started playing realistic i got one shot but you will get used to it
I'd actually correct a couple of these slightly, personally.
"But those shells are low penetration, I prefer high penetration."
As if there wasn't a tradeoff.. or any difference other than the penetration.
APCR can help, I was in a T-44 and could not pen king tiger turret with APHEBC but with APCR I killed the king tiger
7:18 You can still repair a track WITHOUT parts AB OR RB
@@MarkGFL i like how you actually read your comments and try to learn from them.

1: Go into settings and turn on the option for hiding the grass while using binoculars and lenses.
2: Define a key to toggle max/min zoom(default: Z)
3: Position in shadows and pits where only the turret is visible
Good call there on the min/max zoom, that will save some time!
i cant find min/max zoom in my settings
My tip: if you can’t pen, destroy his cannon and breach. If u have time, then deadtruck him and just enjoy kill ))))
But if you cripple it but can’t seem to kill him, don’t stick around trying to hit him. I’ve gotten tunnel vision Ed into trying to kill him that I get hit by another tank I didn’t notice.
I mean try to end them, but if you can’t do it after a while stop and look for enemies before you keep on trying
Here's a tip: Don't make a beeline for objectives. Straight across fields. In broad daylight. Just don't. Cover is kind of important, there are too many tank destroyers
Tip:
Look at the map and set zero of your gun so you don't have to guess every time.
Hey I use keyboard and mouse with PS4 too, thought that i was the only one.
I just started playing on PS4, so I'll give this a shot!
Fun fact : if you don’t have parts researched you can still repair if you go to a point that is captured by your allies/teammates
Good tip!
I have one and only advice shoot at where the enemy armor is flat the chance of penetrate are higher good luck
Haha soviet stallinium 60' T-34 goes BRRRRRR
Here's the tip, shoot the open-topped vehicle or another lightly armored gun carrier or maybe SPAA with your secondary. The 50.cal and 20mm autocannon is so effective tho (damn my english is so bad, sry)
Nah it’s actually pretty good English, better than my attempts at other languages. Also, thx for the tip
11. Patience is a virtue.
12. Never try to fight when you know you can't win. Wait for more reinforcements or when your opponent makes a mistake
13. If you can't kill a tank and you repetitively encounter that tank go to the protection analysis and find a weak spot. (People have trouble killing KVs but they are the easiest tanks for me to kill cause I found their weak spot.)
14. Know your tanks
15. Angle. Angle. Angle. (One of my fondest memories of play the KV1 is when I took on 5 American tanks on my own and got 5 kills with the KV1because I angled)
16. Dont just immediately repair. Find cover or run away.
Parts and FPE i soon found out around level 22 to go for them first
Very helpful video, particularly the crew tips as I've made the same mistake you did (Obviously been WOT brainwashed) nice work mate keep it up :)
Thanks :)
Thank you for this! I'm very used to arcade style games where there is little fog and obstructions and everything is clear and point-and-shoot. I wanted to try WT but it was super frustrating rushing in and getting blown up randomly, these tips will definitely help me.
Hope you have fun with the game. Good luck :)
If you spot a tank and miss use your mg to mark them for the rest of the team placing them on the map for everyone to see! And if you can’t hit them with your mg in time or your getting shot and they knock out your gunner press m and click on the map where they are!
Some tips I’ve learned while playing the game:
1. Always face your enemy, never show them your back
2. Play it safe. Always go with the safest option instead of the risky one
3. Stay near teammates, strength in numbers
4. Use prot. analysis to find other tanks week spots while not in battle
5. Every class of vehicle is useful
6. Bulldozer blades were added for a reason, use them
Some great tips there, thanks for sharing them!
Thanks Will! Good luck out there on the battlefield :)
The size of the tech tree determines how many crew I use...
Russia, USA, Germany: 5
Japan, France, Italy, GB: 4
Sweden, China: 3
Also: Decide when you start your session whether you are grinding for a new vehicle, working to spade a vehicle, achieving objectives, or focusing on earning SL.
WoT tactics but can work in warthunder;
Sidescraping!
Another tip I found useful is when you are in the garage scroll over the icon of your tank in the lineup, then hover over crew (which should be the last one) and click on it, you can upgrade crew abilities there which can make spotting easier, repair times quicker and, improve the tanks handling trust me its super easy and it helps
EDIT: Most new players don't spot this
Well I know this is pretty old, and you haven't done content on this game for a while, but it came in suggested and I am trying to get into gf again, and between your 10 and the comments, it all seems covered, except one thing; the problem with smoking up is that it doesn't just block your enemy's view, it also blocks your team's view, which means you effectively cut off your support from assisting you.
Yeah the M22 and kill like anything in the game it's so funny
The most important tip: don't give up... It sounds cheesy, but you will face a lot of bullshit in this game, and if it isn't it will certainly feel like it. With 36 hours on the game I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times.
can't wait to torture my brain again
This game honestly reminds me of the iFunny community, we all get pissed and swear we hate this game, we warn new users to manage their stress, but we still have fun with it and I don't think there would be something to replace it.
I understand now that is a game were you can choose to flank the map and camp , or rush to the points but keep in mind there is a 60/70% chance to die. Also try to be aware of the situation if your team is kicking ass or viceversa , know if the enemy are spread through the map or concentrated
1440 hours. Can confirm
hahaha my man. GET THIS GAME OUT OF MY COMPUTER
Top tip: you always have more time than the other guy. Never push a corner unless you know there’s nothing that can hit you around there. Let them push you and keep an eye out for any smarter players who flank
Even though ive only had 1 week of playing war thunder, Here is a tip i noticed that works for me very well
There are some attacking styles i know that ive seen in the game.
Your first style is the flank and spank tactic, the key to this tactic is to have a fast tank of course.
(Preferably the Soviet light tanks).
You have to escape the enemies gun all the time, and you need to aim for the sides and the back. And you always have to fire first before the enemy.
Your weakness is a tank that has a fast rotating turret and can easily shoot you
If this fighting style doesn't suit you then try the assault tactic. You need to have a heavy tank that can soak up alot of damage. This tactic needs a heavy tank because you will need to survive alot of bullets. Your gun needs to be strong enough to shoot and penetrate a tank easily. Your only weakness is a light tank that can penetrate your weak spots
If your still not into this tactic then try the sniping tactic, this tactic can be used with any tank that has a really good shooting range. As the title says, you will snipe the enemy from afar. The key to this tactic is to always have cover that you can hide on in case of a tank that has spotted you.
Those are all the tactics i know in my 1 week of playing,
My favorite tactic is the flank and spank tactic.
If you have reached the end of this comment,
Hoped this helped you in your tanking
My fav is second one, and its called Break-trough. Tanks like KV-1, SU-122 and T95 are excellent for this
A tip from me: stand your ground. But not too much, don't hesitate to take cover if it gets overwhelming. But if you stand your ground and prevent the enemy from flanking around to your sides or rear. You can get several kills in a short period of time.
Tip: Know your enemy
If you are using a vehicle that has a lacking gun or a tank with good armour, it’s good to go over the general vehicles you will fight at your br. This can really help prioritize enemies when in a heavy tank.
Another tip: get a really solid lineup you perform well with for getting silver lions. If you ever need to save up for a vehicle this makes it much better
If I see a plane coming towards me I keep changing directions
And if you have to move over open ground it is good to have your movements unpredictable
There are two points missing for me:
1. Most of the skill you can develope in War Thunder is by knowing the maps and the good spots on a map, so don't be discouraged if you don't have good rounds the first hours you play War Thunder. Also try to go the same routs on the same map so that you get used to at least one part of the map. The longer you play you then can try out new places on a map
2. If you want to play realistic battles go into the sound settings and turn down your own engine sound and turn up all other enige sounds. This helps alot, because you can often hear the enemys befor you can seen them and you can guess the direction roughly where the enemy is comming from
Great advice!
Play the tanks as their designed.
Each tank is different.
If your in a tank destroyer chances are you have longer range - stay back when you can and shoot from afar. (Becomes more common in higher tiers)
If your in a heavy tank - feel free to push forward in the front lines but listen and watch for anyone trying to hit your flanks or weak spot. (If turret; swing it around and make it hard to hit)
If your tank is fast - find a good firing position fast unseen on the enemies flanks (These maybe contested - so you want to look out for those folks first)
Great advice! Thanks for sharing :)
4:26 never take more than 25 rounds you can reload at capture points if your still alive
If you have played War Thunder before, then please add your top tips and advice for new players below - thanks :)
Thanks a lot. I'm coming from wot.
mark just a tip the range finder does not work very well at longer rangers some tanks have a upgraded version of the ranger finder for longer rangers so dont always trust it have a good day
Hi there - some more advice:
1.) You can Repair your Tank on a friendly CAP (recently updates allow to battle repair mobility to go there!)
2.) 3 Crewslots are OK für Arcade Tanks, but for Realistic Battles you should consider more like (3 for Tanks 1 for a AAA and at least 1 for a plane)
2.1) You really want a AAA to cover the Skies or pulloff a Comeback (in realistic) after loosing your tanks, and for Tanks -> Tankdestroyers and Light Tanks often get "Cheap" spawns, so you often can get 3-4 Spawns if you play smart (land + air)
3.) You can shoot a Tank twice the same Spot BUT - you have to wait at least 8 Seconds (for best crewskill) to replace the spot (Gunner or Driverposition are active until the tank is destroyed)
4.) Bring the right Plane - often Fighters (with a Payloadoption) are more useful than full Groundattacker. I bring 1 Fighter and 1 Groundattacker to the table.
Liked and subscribed
It kind of sucks that I can't find a console setup suggestions for controls since it's already really clunky and cluttered
Tip:
Have exclusive spots for 1 fighter plane 1 attacker and 1 for your AA in your lineup, rest of the spots have your "main tanks"
Basically how I have my current russian lineup is: 1 Fighter 1 Attacker (Or bomber) 4 Tanks 1 AA and 1 Helicopter, this way you can split your crew xp better.
Another advice that helps a lot almost at any tank is angeling the armor, you need to try to show your armor at an angle towards the enemy, that makes your armor more effective and harder to penetrate
Him: don’t have a high battle Tank and then only 1.0s
Me: laughs in bt5s and bt7s
why do people use it on high tier?
@@MegaChickenPunch i dont even remember when and why i made this comment
@@DaTrueBacon It was a video about newbies in War Thunder and he said don't use 1.0s in 5.0 battles
Honestly don't get spotted in the first place
You can respawn more than 3 times. Have a line up with different type of tanks, light medium, heavy , SPAA, TD, ground attack aircraft, fighter .
Shooting MG through s oke is more dangerous for you.
another life saving tip for tanks with long reload times:
use machine gun whenever possible
spaa=>machinegun
aircfaft=>machinegun
light tank=> machine gun if effective
only use main gun if any other weapon in your arsenal dosent work...
edit: thanks for the heart... im really happy
oh yeah btw another thing...
Yeah i also do this, like i mainly upgrade Rangefinding, Targeting and Weapon Reloading crew skill for TD/SPG
Be nice, Help others repair if your near. Apologize if you accidentally hit them.
I usually assist others that are nice to me more than those that are rude.
I wish more players followed this advice!
MarkGFL
Yeah. So many rude people who don’t get they are on a team
this was actually had good suggestions for beginners. I would add that if you are having trouble learning maps try arcade mode. this way you can see enemy name plates and where they go.
Nice suggestion!
As you said, visibility is the key to the game. One of the most beneficial things I've done in the game is turning off grass in the sniper scope! When you're hull down, the grass can greatly hinder your ability to see targets, and this is a simple setting in the options. Do this!!!!
I'm very new but turning off grass really helps me see over hills with binoculars and my gun once I find a target.
My tip for new Tankers...😇
If your tank's parts are not yet researched you can repair you tank at any captured point... ✌🏼️✌🏼️✌🏼️
Definitely keep ammunition down, I wholeheartedly agree. However, there are certain clauses for this. If all your ammunition is on the bottom or in the rear of the turret, it’s fairly safe to load up. However, if your ammo is in the sides or, god forbid, the front, try to keep the shells down
the ammo tip helped me verry much never realy thought of how much ammo the more chance of blowing up lol
Apparently the British were guilty of stuffing their tanks full of ammo in WW2 also, which I think is why they tended to blow up so easily! Nice to see the mechanic in the game anyway, it makes sense :)
Never forget that your gun is not directly behind your gunner sight, it’s always somewhere to the side or maybe even above or below , adjust your shots according to this
Worth to remember when shooting at close range.
-Viewing the tanks in armor pen mode that you see the most or are very armored to find how to best destroy them.
-Use test drive to learn how to estimate distance
-Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the tanks you use. (spend a lot of time in armor pen viewer)
-don't use the default key setup. Make your own.
-use free camera view
-spam 50 cal close range onto barrel or gun sight to blind the enemy
-really try to identify tanks before shooting at them. Ex) popping out of cover because you mistake the jumbo in front of you for a regular Sherman. Or Churchill VII for Churchill III.
My problem is
If I get hit once I'm either instant dead or can't move or shoot anymore.
When I shoot someone else nothing happens.
And most of the time I die because the cross won't get green
Forgot to mention that I pretty much always get killed through the whole map
I just see the enemy bullet traveling 100km over 3 hills, 2 rivers and perfectly close around house edges to hit me
That's true, and you're not alone
Use headphones and turn off your engine when not on the move. You want to hear the enemy flanking you and you dont want them to hear you around the corner
My favorite tip is that the tiger's armor is almost worthless when not angled
Thanks for sharing! I'm sure I'm not the only one who has shot at dead tanks before by mistake :)
I have a good hint for aircraft, whenever you do a stall climb or just a loop, when you get to the top put your flaps back to raised it will help you recover faster.
Good tip, thanks! I need to play more aircraft.
Dont rush enemy when you dont know where they are! It happened to me trust me!
Don't shoot the enemy from the same place twice was also used in real wars . I like how players uses realistic tactics 🤩🙂🙃
Lol, i play this game now for 3 years, and i still watch beginner tutorials, to update my knowledge xD.
Glad I could help, and nice to hear you're having fun with the game again :)
