@SheriWhitfield yes evry section should be square, so you could adjust by switching hook sizes, or simply add a few more/take a few more rows away. Try do do it strategically so that you still have a pattern of stripes, if you're using that pattern.
Hey, I'm sorry I missed this comment for some reason! The bag, as I have worked it in this tutorial, is roughly 13-14" in width and height. The middle depth is slight shorter where the V shape goes down, and the strap is as long or as short as you decide to make it. If you are having problems with your sizing, you can try going up or down a hook size to accommodate. I find that Lion Brand Cotton 24/7 yarn seems to be, what some people call a "skinny 4". Some yarn can be labelled as a certain weight, but through different manufacturing, turns out slightly different. I experience this regularly with my pieces as well, but it really just takes some time to get to know which yarn brands and lines you like to work with. I know that isn't super helpful, but it might feel good to know that you're not crazy; you're very right, that yarn does tend to work up a little thinner than other 4 weights.
@@wildflowerdesigns7803 Thank you so much for the reply! It was my first time using cotton yarn. I think I prefer the canon simply soft more. I have this saved so I can make this bag next!
@@fruitybat89 no problem at all! ... and, again, I'm sorry for such a late reply! Give it another shot with another kind of yarn or hook size and see how it turned out differently! And if you're still a beginner, welcome to the addictive world of crochet! Don't give up!
I’m making this and wondering what could the reason be if you end up and both sides (top left and bottom foundation row), you have the long strand on same side? Like you say top left corner and bottom right corner are for stitching together .
Hey! I'm so sorry I missed this comment. I'd you've ended up with your tails both on the same side, do might have just crocheted an extra row, or one less than you were supposed to. You should end up with an even amount of rows, which would leave you with you tail on the opposite side. If that is the case, you can just weave in that tail and attach a new piece of yarn to thw corner that it should be on for seaming it up.
Hey Rosi, you can completely customize this patter by simply starting with an odd number in your foundation chain. If you are looking for a certain size, I suggest chaining until you reach that dimension and then counting to make sure you have an odd number; if you end on an even number, just add or take away 1 chain and then you would be ready to start your pattern. The only other thing that this would change is the amount of rows each section will need. each section needs to be square, so if you are making a smaller amount of chains, you wouldn't need as many rows, and if you are adding extra chains at the beginning to make it larger, then you might need to add a few rows to make sure each section is square. You'll see what I mean as you start to work through your piece. I hope this helps!
Absolutely! This is a free pattern that I adapted to make smaller from an original pattern off of yarnspirations.com I've linked it in the description. You're more than welcome to do with the finished product what you would like 😊
@@wildflowerdesigns7803 I thought you were using this pattern. I just so happen to be working this very pattern but I prefer watching someone work a pattern in a tutorial as I am more of a visual learner. Thank you for sharing ..😊
I did it a bit different, chaining 53 in the beginning. How do I determine how many rows to do for each color? Am I making a perfect square for each color block?
Absolutely, but try your best to have an even amount of rows so that you don't have to attach another piece of yarn for seaming. Having an even amount will leave you with your finishing tail on the right end of your piece.
Hello. I suggest putting two or more strands of your thin yarn together, to equal similar thickness. Just be careful when crocheting, to grasp all strands on your hook. Otherwise, you’ll have dropped loops in your work that are not connected to anything, and your bag will come apart. Hope that helps!
I use a worsted weight (3) yarn for this tutorail, but you can used any weight of yarn and a corresponding hook size. The only thing that will change is the final piece dimensions, but as I mention in this tutorial, you can simple add or take away stitches in an odd number co adjust the sizing :) I hope this helps!
@@jessynicholls try increasing each section so the solid color parts and the stripes by 6 rows. So it would be 42 rows per section and 2 extra stripes.

So each section should basically be square? I don't think mine is going to be, so I must crochet tighter that you. Guess I'll add rows as needed.

its pretty can you give me the size of the bag the finished size and when its not yet folded
Do you happen to have the measurements for the bag? I am using lion brand cotton 24/7 and even though its a weight 4 yarn it seems way thinner.

Thanks for the lovely pattern and video! Does the chain count as row 1?
Hey, you're welcome! Thanks for watching. No, they chain does not count as row 1. Row 1 begins as you turn back to work into the foundation chain.
How long it the original crochet length?
Thank you for your video. Love this bag! What would be the stitch amount for a larger bag?

Yes! A perfect square, so however many rows gets you there is fine! It all will depend on your tension and that is different for everyone.
@@wildflowerdesigns7803 thank you so much, that's very helpful! can"t wait to finish it!! :)
Do you flip the bag after you do the seams before you attach the handles or did I miss that?
You can if you would like to, but you don't need to. It all depends on which side you find prettier as far as the seaming looks!
Does anyone have the measurements of the finished rectangle?
How long is it before adding the straps?
Will this still work if a couple of my rows are off count?
Absolutely, but try your best to have an even amount of rows so that you don't have to attach another piece of yarn for seaming. Having an even amount will leave you with your finishing tail on the right end of your piece.
