I really love the variations between act 1 & 2 here. Act 1 is like "Hello player. This is a water level. There's air bubbles, atrocious water gravity and annoying badniks. You're gonna hate it." Act 2 is rather like "You know what ? Fuck it. A giant wall is gonna crush you. Did you survive the wall ? All right, then. Here goes super high speed water looping. Enjoy them. You earned it. Cheers."

it’s kinda subjective, but you can say that sonic music stands out way more than other games music. for example. things like bowsers castle were ominous, while death egg felt more blood pumping. of course, sonic stands out the most during his final boss music. both mario 64 and ocarina of time had this dramatic piece as its final boss, they’re iconic, but not in the way sonics final bosses are. the music is loud cheesy rock, whereas in this games the music says “he’s tough, this is it” instead telling you in sonics games “you’re stronger than him, whoop his ass”
I'm just going to say this right here right now, but whenever it comes to any song in a video game, I always can come back to this and never get tired of everything it does to pump me up. All the adrenaline, the determination to get to my goal, the atmosphere of running through strange worlds, and the ambiance of just simply living to experience these joys. This is the absolute, undisputed, DEFINITVE example of a song so well composed that it's memory and strength never die, not even the slightest. No other song has really captured that same staying power in a video game. Music my friends. This is true music right here. Thank you Michael.
KJ aib Yes, it's a jazz term. It's a series of notes that is more times than often skillfully improvised by the artist. Think of it like a guitar riff, or a mini solo.
@@toyotagazooracer4455 MJ and Buxer only composed some of the songs in Sonic 3. Much of the soundtrack, including both tracks for Hydrocity, were composed by SEGA composers. The themes for Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base have ties to MJ, but the other zones' do not.
I really like how in S3&K the 2nd stage theme was a remix of the first one. That was really unique imo, and the 2nd stage theme was always better than the first, for the most part that is. Like this one for example. Man this really takes me back :')
What I really miss about old games is how they used limited technology to convey massive proportions, and Hydrocity really embodies this for me. The reverb on each track perfectly compliments the massive pillars and infinite backround images of the level. It all added to the feeling of a massive, forgotten city beneath the earth, long since flooded with water, and it all added to the idea that there was a single idea behind every level.
I don't know about you guys but a lot of yall like the 0:21 to 0:35 part but I hear something beautiful in the 0:36 to 0:52. It the part that caught my ear the most at least so much so that I am going to cover this awesome song. If its good enough for my own tastes I will post it up. ;D
+Snake Man DWN-022 I still believe the soundtrack for this game was way ahead of its time. There was a rumor when I was like 9 that Michael Jackson produced it.
+jjr04001 It is possible, but only a couple of tracks were produced until news broke when Michael Jackson was reported for child rape, which itself is a rumor. Because of that, SEGA pushed him to prevent their company from negative press.
This was truly the best sonic song in the entire series. And I loved playing this level as a kid because of the music and how fast sonic travelled even skidding across the water at crazy speeds. I will definitely look for this game on the wii virtual console.
0:21 and up makes for a perfect ringtone. I usually change my ringtone every couple days but when I tried that section as my ringtone last month, I just haven't looked back.
The music reminds me of the time I holidayed in Gran Canaria as a little kid, in the same year Sonic 3 was released. Coming back to the hotel in the evening, I looked at how cool the swimming pool next to the hotel looked with the lights within. The look of the water reminded me of Hydrocity Zone somehow, and found myself wanting to play Sonic 3 again. Got to love the bass in this track.
This has to be one of my favourite stages in the whole franchise, because of the way the stage always sends you flying and spinning in different directions, you're running so fast you can run on water. I fucking love Hydrocity.
I enjoyed this level so much, that I'd actually play through the game just to get to this one level. It's both the music and the level itself that make this level so awesomely awesome. X)
Hydrocity is one of my favorite sonic stages! Act 2 feels like an underground water park! I also love the psuedo 3D water surface that appears in act 1 (as well as Lanch Base act 2) that splits the background so you can see just what's under the water. Best Genesis Sonic game of All Time
i remember when i had the iPod mini and the waterproof casing for it, i would often listen to this while swimming underwater (especially at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon)
Chiiiildhooooood pleeeeeease coma baaaaaack! =( I miss you so much. And i miss the people who were with me in those years. What an i miss: school, sega, cartoons, relatives, friends, teachers, HOME ALONE (all parts), Casper, etc.
When I played this on Sonic Jam, I actually remember act 1 being silent and this act just being the first second or so repeated. I think Marble Garden was silent too. It was probably just issues with my disc but years later on Sonic Mega Collection I remember being so shocked that these zones had actual music...
Wow, dude! The extended versions make it much easier to listen to in the background when I'm browsing the web or playing video games... Or making out with a hot geeky girl on the couch.
Ask UA-cam. There's always something that messes up my videos. Last year, the volume went up and down. Earlier this year, extensions with video transitions wouldn't load properly.
@MaceH1ndu It's reaching the end of the buffer. Pause the video for a couple of minutes, then resume playing after your computer has had a chance to download more of the video/song.
So so many memories of being young after school saying this is the day I end the game..... Then die ha ha it took 12 years to complete but it was worth every second

This level was SEGA's apology for Labyrinth Zone
T-Man An extremely acceptable apology at that.

great comment XD !!!!
This comment is 6 years old I agree with you completely
nailed it 😂😅
"But we gonna give you some of the best music ever so that you're gonna love it anyway" 😄😄😄🥰
I don't care what anyone says, this is one of the most well-composed, easily-listenable, and overall best songs released in the past 20 years.
This game's soundtrack is just f**king amazing.
I'm subbing to u you are cool
FaZeDestiny115 Playz me too?
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap I love too
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap well, Michael Jackson composed Hydrocity Zone, Angel Island Zone And Ice Cap Zone.
@@CaptainCoolzCT- micheal jackson composed none of those
The competition between Nintendo and Sega was so fierce, and caused them to generate great games and tunes like this.

Paur Yeah I always go down the pipe thing underwater when this part hits.

Good feeling.
I’m bad verse - Michael Jackson bad
Sonic and Mega Man franchises had the best music in video game history in my opinion.
What about the NES version of DuckTales?
Pokemon and Mario: hello

Sonic and Pokemon have the best gaming music but Sonic beats Pokemon by a bit
Streets of Rage as well
I love the music in both acts, but the part starting at 0:22 is just pure nostalgic bliss.

Joseph Franc I'm gonna guess that I know another song in a game that might come close... Flying Battery Zone from Sonic & Knuckles ;) haha
Me too. I also don't like to hear "normal songs" because it gets boring with time. But the video games songs, these are amazing.
When cities go hydro, hip hop goes wild! Best melody in Sonic 3! Have been dancing to it for 17 years! Yeah!!!!!
+Dokuro Yes, but Sonic and Knuckles didn't exist for six months later though too.
That fucking lick at 0:21 .....
The guys at SEGA Sound Team OBVIOUSLY know what they're doing...
did :(
Sonic's music was never bad... couldn't say the same for the games at one point, though. YEESH. :/

Stephen Sandoval Yeah definitely 00:36 is something special...the chorus is too good
WHY ARE ALL THE ACT 2 SONGS VASTLY SUPERIOR TO THE ACT 1 SONGS
because act 2 songs are just remixes of act 1 with more instruments.
not always...
Like ice cap zone.
IMO, Act 1 of Marble Garden, Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Lava Reef are better than their Act 2 Counterparts.
Draster
And launch base
Best song from this game. Yes, even over Ice Cap
You're *right/wrong* my dude.
Flying Battery Act 2 is the best ever
Carnival Zone is my fave.

Marble Garden Act 2
Ice Cap is overrated

Background.
Background music.

聞いていて心地よい音。素晴らしいです。
this was one of those stages that pieced together multiple elements of previous sonic stages
I always loved this version because of how the music sounds like its echoing off the walls of Hydrocity.

Michael Jackson, you surprised me after your death, again...
I just now realized how MJ this sounds. Was this done by him?
+Analytic31 I don't think so, MJ didn't do every song, only a few. I remember hearing this isn't one of the MJ ones.
RoundDuck Man
It does sound like his style though.
Analytic31 Nah this is not an MJ song both acts of Hydrocity were scored by two people. Act 1 was by Masnori Hikichi and Act 2 by Masayuki Nagao.
Actually no, tracks for act1&2 were originally composed by Cicrocco Jones(in credit roll as "Scirocco") and Brad Buxer (as arranger-composer)
i was fearfull of this zone everytime i went for another round at the whole game, but the music soothed me pain. its just awsome.
