RIP Ice Cap Zone. You've officially been retconned out by (a butchered remix of) your prototype predecessor and will be dearly missed. Hopefully someone mods you back into the PC version one day...
Oh god, it took me watching a UA-cam video 15 years later to figure out that Casino Nights Zone barrel. Not even joking. Before that, the only way I was able to pass it was by glitching through it as Super Sonic.
This has always been my favorite Sonic soundtrack from the Genesis days! I couldn't believe when I found out it's also so closest to a real song, probably the closest out of any Sonic 3 song. Of course, several songs in Sonic 1 & 2 were based very closely on actual songs by Dreams Come True.
Ice Cap is my favorite Classic Sonic game level. I wish they put this level in Sonic Generations instead of Sky Sanctuary. Don't get me wrong Sky Sanctuary is a fantastic level. Well that's what mods are for I guess.
That was because SEGA don't own the rights to the song, something about have multiple composers and shit, one of which may or may not have been MJ, which is why on the PC version of S3&K the music for carnival night, ice cap and launch base were changed.
Sky Sanctuary is my second favorite level in Generations, though I don't care for it in S&K.. I kind of agree with you, but then again, I'd love to play a modern remake of EVERY classic Sonic's levels, not only Ice Cap, so yeah.. The snowboarding would be awesome btw
While I do agree, I'm sure you're aware of the legal struggle this song (as well as others) faces preventing its use. Or I dunno! Maybe they totally could have used it and just missed tf out! Fairly certain the former is the main reason for its lack of appearance, though.
This is my favorite theme from this game, hands down. I remember making a remix of this with two cassette tapes and pause/cutting them together. Good times. Should do a proper remix sometime.
“There are three things that we cry for in life; things that are lost, things that are found, and things that are magnificent.” - Douglas Coupland …To call the original Ice Cap music lost would be an understatement… RIP to this amazing soundtrack

I didn't even know... This is one of those rare moments where I'm not even sad, just disappointed. I know we're not going to get another collection like this for a long time.

@@HellRider_ Facts, I need the right music to experience the game the way it's supposed to be
@Axeldorf I'm pretty sure SEGA just needs to pay up to use the tracks, but they refuse to do so, so SEGA let their fans down AGAIN. How they gonna call this Sonic Origins, and remove the ORIGINAL experience from the game? SEGA knows their upsetting fans, but I guess they don't care enough to make things right for their fans
@@awesomeboss2020 Well, to be fair I don't think SEGA owns ANY of the classic sonic music except for CD and a majority of the sonic 3 soundtrack. They still gotta pay royalties for Sonic 1 and 2, so in reality the royalties were probably higher than it would be to finish their old prototype songs.
Not like those are bad either, Launch Base Prototype slaps.

Goodbye Hard Times, it's likely that these Ice Cap Zone tracks along with some other S3&K tracks are gonna be replaced with the original music adapted by Jun Senoue in Sonic Origins.
As I can remember guys, YES! Michael Jackson "composed" Ice Cap Zone, but the song was inspired from the song Hard Times, Ice Cap Zone is a remix of Hard Times, so we can say that Michael Jackson was the main arranger of this song :) (AS I REMEMBER)
Woah
WRONG!!
he didn't compose it.
The reason it sounds like Hard Times is because the guy who composed Hard Times also composed this.
***** Giordan Diodato I put "composed" because Michael Jackson fans xD :'v but Jackson was the main arranger, that is so true :) I was trying to explain to Michael Jackson fans that he is not the composer, I'm one of his fans, of course! but I know that Buxer composed this :) but.. for the other Michael fans is another thing :/
Brad Buxer did most of the composition.
That dude has some serious powers to be able to make such a beautiful soundtrack.
MJ and Brad did such an excellent work together (Beautiful Girl, Im The Loser, Stranger In Moscow, Days in Gloucestershire, and many unheard ones), i believe they also did MJ's "Space Dance" from Space Channel 5, or at least Brad using MJ ad-libs... Update: in 2016 Brad stated that they worked on almost 41 high-instrumental-quality tracks (i mean, not SEGA console compressed sound). >> mjhideout.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2275874&postcount=47
never could make it to this level. cause of that barrell in that circus level. #butthurt
+TheLNashProject Ha, the one you have to push up and down to make move? I had to call Sega's tip hotlline and the guy told me they had more calls about that than anything else in the entire time he had worked there.
+TheLNashProject Me too! I felt so dumb when I finally figured out how to do it. Just jump into it and hold down when you land on it, then repeating till you sink low enough, then jump off on the lower level!
Samer Khammash damn it !!!!
me too and my brothers
+TheLNashProject Hahaha omg I know the barrel you mean!! I was the exact same (was always desperately trying to get to the Ice Cap Zone cause it's my fav!) but you have to go up down up down on that damn barrel lol (I was pretty good at computer games but that bit took me aaaages to figure out lol). Great comment made me laugh anyway. Ahhh those were the good ole days! :-D
This music makes me emotional everytime. I always wanna cry to this. So beautiful

@@UltimatusMemelus Got even more emotional, right?
Ice Cap is the reason I love Ice levels in videogames so much. The music and the stage itself are so wonderfully crafted and I guess as a kid wanting to experience this feeling over and over again made me really appreciate Ice/Snow levels.
At least we finally have confirmation that MJ did really work on this track.
This is actually Hard Times by The Jetzons.

Sonic 3 released
May this song rest in peace. Didn't make it into Origins
this music always makes me feel so emotional, i'm so sad it was replaced in origins as well as some other classics :( sonic 3 will always hold a special place in my heart
This was my favorite stage as a kid. That snowboard section always got me hyped af lol
so sad this wasnt in the movie
There was a part where Sonic leaped and scraped the side of the mountain and a crescendo played and my heart jumped thinking it was the start of this song and that we were going to hear a remix of it play next. Definitely a missed opportunity...
@@davidlares2986 TRUE i was waiting to hear some sort of soundtrack reference during that scene but we didnt get it 💔
couldn’t. mj made it and they really cant release it. sadly its not gonna b in origins but the new one is going to sound very similar hopefully 🙏🏾.
I never appreciated the Carnival Night music until we lost it... but this, this was always appreciated. RIP.
RIP Ice Cap Zone. You've officially been retconned out by (a butchered remix of) your prototype predecessor and will be dearly missed. Hopefully someone mods you back into the PC version one day...
That happened on day 1
Or turn on ice cap on Spotify if you're on Ps and xbox
Listen to The Jetzons - Hard Times if you haven't yet.
It really is this song, not just saying that they're similar. Same keyboardist and everything.
The europhoria that awaited after figuring out that damned barrel in the previous level
Oh god, it took me watching a UA-cam video 15 years later to figure out that Casino Nights Zone barrel. Not even joking. Before that, the only way I was able to pass it was by glitching through it as Super Sonic.
The fact that I had to wait years to hear this music because of the barrel of Carnival Night Zone makes it more special
Happy 30th birthday, Sonic 3
the fact that the "Hard times" music got in my recommended section is just wholesome

Best song in the entire game, and one of my absolute favorites.
This song is always great to listen to when you're going through some Hard Times
This game was such a masterpiece.
Raegus Lol hardly. This game has horrible level design. Unlike the classic earlier Sonic games

Sonic: "Oh great, It's the Winter Soldier!"
I go through lots of hard times but this song reminds me of the happiest days of my life :)
Ice Cap is my favorite Classic Sonic game level. I wish they put this level in Sonic Generations instead of Sky Sanctuary. Don't get me wrong Sky Sanctuary is a fantastic level. Well that's what mods are for I guess.
:3
Sky sanctuary wasn't memorable at all, at least this stage had a song.
That was because SEGA don't own the rights to the song, something about have multiple composers and shit, one of which may or may not have been MJ, which is why on the PC version of S3&K the music for carnival night, ice cap and launch base were changed.
I think they did that because after Sky Sanctuary in S&K you go to the death egg so it makes more sense maybe?
Sky Sanctuary is my second favorite level in Generations, though I don't care for it in S&K.. I kind of agree with you, but then again, I'd love to play a modern remake of EVERY classic Sonic's levels, not only Ice Cap, so yeah.. The snowboarding would be awesome btw
Sonic the Movie 2 really, REALLY messed up by not featuring this track. You know what I'm talking about!
Tbf this level wasn't in Sonic 2? Wouldn't of made sense to put an Ice Cap theme in this. 🤦♂️
@@TheCheshireCat. Sonic 2 the movie was a mix of Sonic 2 & 3, So it would've made sense.
It should have been a remixed version of this with the yeahs been audible
While I do agree, I'm sure you're aware of the legal struggle this song (as well as others) faces preventing its use.
Or I dunno! Maybe they totally could have used it and just missed tf out! Fairly certain the former is the main reason for its lack of appearance, though.
The thing is, the snowboard scene looked serious so no way they would put a chill song like this into the scene
I used to leave my Genesis on overnight at the end of act 2 just so i could listen to this while i slept.
Until 10 minutes later when Sonic dies because of a Time-Up
