- A piece from the film "Good Morning Vietnam" (1987).
Adrian Cronauer's first broadcast, without the music.
This is how I will always remember Robin Williams. Those laughs in the background are genuine and not acted.
Rest in peace, Captain! You will be greatly missed.
Ps. Thank you all for the close to 900,000 views.
He visited my base in 2002, out in Afghanistan when it wasn't cool for the Hollywood elites. He was that funny too, and very appreciated by us troops. He will be missed.
I heard when he visited the troops, he never left until every single soldier who wanted to meet him or get a photo with him had done so. I miss him terribly; there'll never be anyone like him.
@brutus brutalis Naw man depression did. The funniest people you know also tend to be the ones that hurt the most. They spend their lives bringing joy to others but nobody brings joy to them. Robin was extremely depressed.
You realize the "hollywood elites" have been visiting the troops since World War One? Don't make this weird and political...
@@dorkmax7073 well no one should really respect them now unless there the ones not involved with the whole pedophilia thing but ya no respect them now even if they do support are troops
Baby killer
Miss him so much!!! The world needs people like Robin Williams right now.
And how
I'd say we've got more than enough depressed and suicidal, people, thanks.
@@hydewhyte4364 I meant his humor and the way he saw the world, the positive way he helped us see the world. It was a disease destroying his mind that lead to his suicide.
I think seeing Robin Williams debilitated by Parkinson’s would be slightly depressing
I think we have enough cokeheads running around, we don't need anymore
"I'm on again at 1600. Why? Because I have to it's the army!"
My favorite joke :D
Adrian Cronauer"s jokes got him into serious trouble. One of them was " it is now 9"oclock. For those in the Army and Air Force, that's 0900. For those in the Navy, it's 2 bells. For the Marines, the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 9."
😂
How many crayons, can I eat by 900

Oh the Marine burn xD
This man was a national treasure. Depression is a helluva thing. Talk to your brothers, never know what’s going on behind the scenes
B.A.Mitchem you wrote about speaking to other brothers.??? Do you need someone to listen to you ??
lesley james I’m good, thank you tho!
He didn't suffer from depression. He suffered from lewy body dementia. Far worse. Look it up.

He was dying and didn’t want to go out a vegetable.. Hard to think but the truth. He was depressed from that:( rip mrs. Doubtfire
Never will there be a man like Robin Williams.
RIP Robin Williams (July 21, 1951 - August 11, 2014), aged 63
You will always be remembered as a legend.
"Ho Chi Min - Colonel Sanders, the same person? You be the judge; our lines are open!" Priceless. RIP Captain my Captain.
I can't believe he made all that up on the spot! Honestly Robin Williams was the king of improv!
@Invista Inside The Actors Studio is like a "best of" and pure gold
Yep, its called lsd and kakaine.
Well a few takes and an 8 ball of coke does wonders
lauren, it's a MOVIE - all that was scripted months before it was filmed.
@@beavis4play it was actually improvised. He also improvised a lot of his lines for Aladin as well.
I can verify, as a Marine vet, this whole soundtrack was played in the barracks multiple times. While the average joe would get some of these jokes, it takes veterans to truly love them in a special way. "ANYTHING JUST PLAY IT LOUD!! OK!!!!"
I was in Aviation, that joke hit different now. LOL Lost so much hearing I was rated for it as service connected.
I’m an average joe, and I got more of the jokes then you.
welcome home Mr. I-Corps! I'm a 68 I-Corp rat, and most every body here has no clue how lonely it gets without music or at least the ball scores. We had Chris Noel, and think everybody had a crush on her in I-Corp. Out west by the fence the radio station didn't come in well unless you were stuck on a mountain top. We had a small Sony radio that we'd string a wire (about 25 feet long) and get an FNG to hold the wire up till he'd get too tired. Then we'd get another one! Noel would start her show the the sentence of "HI I-Corp" everytime, and there were pools as to who it was. Then she'd sign off with a "Goodnight I-Corp." Those two sentences gave us hope that at least somebody knew we were out there in the bush. God bless them!
@@garytotty3971 Yeah. For reception my brother Dan had a Zenith 'Worldboy' as a prized possession while in-country 1969-71. Ten years later I'd use it to tune in to broadcasts (it had a pull-out vellum spiral bound chart of sources/frequencies/times) for news from everywhere. So cool to take it up a mountain in California and listen to something broadcast out of New Zealand. Great tech back in the day.
If there was ever someone who could just riff their way through anything, _this_ was that person. *RIP Robin Williams.*
Obivously he couldn't riff through 'everything' -
my man snuck a self-immolation joke into this scene and no one ever picks up on it
A Gahan Wilson-type joke referring to the self-immolation of Buddhist monks protesting the Diem regime.
that's quite the pick out coming from you Mr. Sherman, do you have any experience with immolation perchance?
@@liveoakgaming5967 well there was this time I went down to Georgia but I don't think I can tell you people while on the air. All I can say is that when we got to town we painted the town red and had a fiery good time.

I got it the first time "I seen one them guys in orange robes burst into flames" cause the Rage against the Machine album cover.
I heard he improved this scene. Those aren't movie characters laughing in the background. They are people witnessing his comedic genius. Legend.
He did, he improved most of the scenes he did in this movie and the other cast had a bitch of a time keeping it together when they had to.
He improved most of the scenes in his movies, even the dramatic ones
He didn't go by the script at all. They told him just "go"
He only improvised the scenes on the radio. Thats all. To say otherwise is a disservice to his acting chops. The guy is a legend and to credit shit that he didnt do is wrong.
@@TimKCSportsFan Good point. Might make it sound like implying he was uncapable of anything but impro. I don't believe that's what the commenters meant to do though. But good to point it out.
The saddest day in many years.
The world has lost one of its greatest funny actors.
Rest in peace Robin Williams. You are missed.
Yeah!
Its sad but what makes it sweeter is the fact he had a degenerative neurological problem that would leave him as a vegetable. He chose to end himself before he degraded. I don't have that strength to make that choice.
@@Hylaeosaurus I am sorry that you have that to deal with
It felt like everyone in world lost their crazy uncle that day. Yet I couldn't feel sad for too long because I'd always remember something he said or did then start giggling like an idiot.
Not really. He was self centered, while kind, he really didn't know how to deal with real people, in person. When it wasn't about him, he was lost. He said, "Loneliness is not being alone. loneliness is being in a room, ignored by everyone. What an ego! So long. You tried.
Love this man.The world is a sadder place without him so folks keep on watching and smiling.
My exact sentiments. I can FINALLY watch one of his movies without BAWLING LIKE A BABY.

He's amazing and not another found to replace him
It’s great seeing Forrest Whitaker laughing his face off and most of the other guys in the room too , as Robin Williams is delivering his routine. Such a unique movie and a unique talent. RIP Robin.
The reactions on the other guys' faces in the room just crack me up! Pretty sure they weren't supposed to, but the director kept it. Who couldn't hold in a laugh with Robin acting out like that?
I heard all Robin Williams radio broadcasts in this film were all ad lib , comic genius, sadly missed but will never be forgotten.
Robin Williams at his peak. I understand most of his "on air" monologues were IMPROVISED.
RIP, Robin.
What made this great is its all improvised. Robin Williams was a genius when it came to improv comedy. Gone too soon R.I.P Robin Williams
I was an extra in this movie. It was shot in Phuket in 1986. I met Robin a few times! Fantastic guy!
This mans mind worked on a whole different level. He was the best comedian who ever lived.
Paul Davis, EXACTLY!
Yeah even his standup comedy is amazing
Totally
This man was 20 years ahead of anyone... his ability to riff and improv will never be matched. RIP
20 light years.
Robin Williams brought joy to the lives of so many people through his comedy, acting, and charity work. There is no doubt he will forever be remembered for his comedic genius and heartwarming performances.
Tragically, Robin died by suicide in 2014 at age 63. The event shook the entertainment world and caused millions of fans to grieve for the loss of such a beloved actor and human being who brought so much humor to the world. What many people do not know is that depression was not the underlying cause of Robin’s suicide-rather, it was a little-known brain disease called Lewy body dementia.
In the last year of his life, Robin experienced a startling pattern of behavior. His friends, family, and film colleagues could tell he was not himself as he began exhibiting symptoms like confusion, forgetfulness, paranoia, hallucinations, anxiety, personality changes, and difficulty with movement. Robin could tell something was wrong, too, but he did not know what was happening to him, why it was happening, or how to stop it.
Robin and his wife, Susan Schneider Williams, sought help from numerous medical specialists, but were unable to obtain a correct diagnosis before his untimely death. After his death, an autopsy revealed advanced stages of Lewy body dementia, a less common form of dementia that affects an estimated 1.4 million people in the US.
Always a legend. Always going to be remembered. RIP It hurts to think he made so many people laugh, but died thinking he was alone. Don't hesitate to let people know when they matter. You never know when someone really needs to hear it. Don't just assume they already know. =(
A brilliant talent, sadly missed!. Nuff said.
"Thank you for that lovely tune. That funky music will drive us til the dawn. Let's go, let's boogaloo til we puke."
OMG... There will never be a talent to equal Robin Williams xxxxx
Such a funny guy. Made us laugh even if we didn’t want too. RIP Robin
I was 27 when this came out, and I still love it like it was new. He was a true one-of-a-kind.
Anyone else besides me want to watch it yet again after watching these clips? Miss ya Robin!
There is only one word in the English language to describe this man: legendary. Hands down, the funniest man of this or any other generation, no one else comes close. The world is so dark w/o him. But he's making whatever deity is in charge of the afterlife laugh their ass off right now, I'd bet u anything. RIP Mr. Williams the world misses u terribly.
Agreed.
Seeing this just brings me to tears...
I miss Robin Williams.
The only thing bigger than his heart and his genius are the laughs he gave us.
This movie was released the year my Dad died. My parents were married just shy of 22 years, and my mom wasn’t ready to go places on her own after his demise.
I tried to get her out of the house as much as possible, but she was alone at 43 with two kids away at college. The adjustment was enormous for us all. The two of us went to see this, and I fondly remember going as part of our return to normalcy.
Thanks Robin for lightening the mood for an afternoon. Your humor made a very difficult year a little less painful. Rest well in peace ✌️
The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
RIP Robin.
"What's the difference between the army and the cub scouts? EHH! Cub scouts don't have heavy artillery." Can't listen to that with out laughing. RIP Ronin, you'll be missed.

We used to say things like ridiculous o'clock.
that is not scripted laughter, they literally just turned the camera on the cast as they were laughing at Robin.
Robbin's quick pace is literally perfect for his own radio show. If only he actually had a morning show; who wouldn't listen to that on the way to work ??
You should check the interview with Craig Ferguson. You could see him go full on out and even better Craig was not lagging behind with jokes either.
i couldn't as I would be afraid of crashing the car from laughing too hard. but listening on a train or bus absolutely.
And who wouldn't arrive late just to make sure they heard it all!
All I can say is Simply brilliant. Robin Williams

Robin Williams still had a lot of comedy and improvisation left in him. It’s been five years since he passed away. I sure do miss his brand of humor, and him as well. And so does everybody else.

Also, may I note that radio hosts of today should take lessons from this movie. They try and be funny but THIS is funny
There was an interview with the real Adrian Cronauer in PEOPLE Magazine after the film came out, and he was asked to critique Robin's performance. I never forgot his answer: "If I'd done those jokes at that time, I'd still be in the brig today." Too funny!
Robin was a comedic genius, no one can be him.
"Radio hosts"? Sorry, those went the way of pay phones a while ago.
Wish you could've listened to the morning show (6 am to 10 am) every weekday in the 1980s on DC101 (Washington DC area). The DJ was Greaseman and he must've been highly inspired by Robin Williams. Wish the two of them could've been on stage together. It would've absolutely amazing. @@SusanSloate

I was holding back the water works until I read this comment.
When we were at base camp trying to get our feet dry and pouring rice out of our kits it was a breath of fresh air to hear him. A lot of people didn't like him but to us he was a piece of the world. A-2-1!
My parents got the soundtrack to this movie when I was a kid, which contains a lot of Robin's radio segments as well. Most of the jokes sailed majestically over my head but it was still the funniest thing I'd ever heard.
Robin you made us laugh.
We will never forget
Without any doubt, this crazy yell of "Good Morning, Vietnam!" will never be the same! It'll only be clearer and stronger and - a bit - sadder! It's already a trademark for this fabulous, crazy, magnificent clown!
R.I.P. dear Robin!
Robin Williams was the best imrpov performer I've ever seen. I mean, he prepared a lot in advance, but I'll be damned if it isn't difficult to detect which is which in that scene! That kind of talent and work is so rare, and I don't think I'll see anyone that funny again in my lifetime. He truly was a master of improvisational comedy!
Amazing thing is that he riffed most of the movie...the director said there was no real script for Robin...he just gave Robin a basic theme for each scene, and let him go...
Reminds me of what I heard about _Aladdin,_ how they wouldn't draw Genie until _after_ Robin had his _entire dialog_ recorded--because the animators _knew_ he wouldn't stick to a script!
Unleash the hounds!.😃🤔😅😎😃😃😃
Believe they did have a script but threw it out of the window when he just went off
