No, they were attacking neighbouring tribes which resulted in a massive death toll, killing the woman and children everyone who comes in their path. This makes your statement invalid, because Shaka was a black man and he had slaves too. Shaka buried people while still alive, this is a fact. @James Bond I am a real native and while yes, some of my people do call themselves Indians, the sentiment and self-identifier is not universal. Some call themselves native, some call themselves indigenous, some use First Nations, some call themselves by the name of the tribe.
      It's better to be as specific as you can, because the variety in tribal cultures is as vast as the difference between Germany and England, despite both being predominantly white countries.

Except for those that have adapted the western way of life. Those that still live the way their forefathers did eat mostly raw seal meat, blood and whale blubber also raw or fermented. Supplemented with raw fish and berries when they were available. So get off your high horse

  • @Chris.Pontius
    @Chris.Pontius 5 років тому +15

    "Although the name "Eskimo" is commonly used in Alaska to refer to all Inuit and Yupik people of the world, this name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean "eater of raw meat."
    Linguists now believe that "Eskimo" is derived from an Ojibwa word meaning "to net snowshoes." However, the people of Canada and Greenland prefer other names. "Inuit," meaning "people," is used in most of Canada, and the language is called "Inuktitut" in eastern Canada although other local designations are used also. The Inuit people of Greenland refer to themselves as "Greenlanders" or "Kalaallit" in their language, which they call "Greenlandic" or "Kalaallisut."
    Most Alaskans continue to accept the name "Eskimo," particularly because "Inuit" refers only to the Inupiat of northern Alaska, the Inuit of Canada, and the Kalaallit of Greenland, and it is not a word in the Yupik languages of Alaska and Siberia."

      @Shockheadd45 so if it was an all Inuit team, the name would be OK? So basically the name is not the problem is that some people are more worthy than others to use certain words to identify themselves?

      Not quite right, but very close. Inuit refers to the descendants of the Thule culture which now resides in Canada, Alaska and Greenland. Greenlanders will probably look at you funny if you claimed they live north of American continent.

      It's not. My adoptive father is Inupiaq eskimo. I was a member of an Inupiaq dance group. My father's family has flown from Alaska to visit us. No one takes even the slightest bit of offense when they are called an eskimo.
