I'm a Media Production Lead for a large property management company, and I'm using a XPS 15 with the Core i9 processor, and it handles everything we've thrown at it flawlessly, even 4k without using proxies :) so yes, people, the Intel i9 works great for editing. You just need to make sure you have enough RAM

@@AlisonArbuckle honestly never really had any problems with it, I wasn't doing anything that needed any higher refresh rate. Refresh rate is only realistically helpful when gaming, haha

This is my employer's edit machine, and while it has no issues editing HD and 4K my issue is with the hardware. No USB A port, only 3 USB C, no numeric pad, no separated home/f11 and end/f12 keys. Personally, I don't not consider this laptop video editing hardware ready. With the add on of a Dell media dock and Dell U3223QE monitor I can work quickly, but this is not the laptop I would have bought for my own projects.

I love your videos Matt but have to be honest on this one. Even you trying cannot hide that for video editors the best advise is to switch to Mac. I finally did it after 20 years and will never look back to the bad noise, heat, battery performance. I don’t know what you get from Dell but this review takes some credibility from your other product reviews. No offense, just wanted to be honest with my thoughts and feelings.
    Cheers mate

Thanks for the feedback! Macs are great, but I made this review because there are a surprisingly large group of editors out there on windows that don’t want to switch to Mac, and if they want a laptop, I think this is one of the best options on the Windows side of things.

@@whoismatt Agree. I'm not a Mac guy, far from it, and recently picked up a used 2018 Dell Latitude laptop, while not as beefy as the Precision, it's a workstation grade laptop, though it has the 8th gen Core i5, 4 cores, 8 threads processor. Have not tried it with Davinci Resolve 16 on it yet. Be interesting if I can do basic stuff with it. As is, it's been fairly good. Sadly, it's SATA only, but is the 2n1 as it can double as a tablet when needed.

@@whoismatt I appreciate this. I recently made the jump from a PC to an MacBook Pro (48GB 1TB SSD M3) because I do some heavy video editing for UA-cam/Patreon and everyone says it's a must if you're serious about video editing. However, I watched this video because I'm returning the laptop tomorrow and going back to a PC. I just do NOT get the hype. It barely performs better than the previous PC I had (that I'm replacing because it's an MSI and their build quality is absolutely garbage so the screen hinges broke yet again), but the user experience is SO MUCH WORSE in SO MANY WAYS. I gave it a decent amount of time to "get used to it" and it's still such a terrible user experience compared to a PC. So, I'm grateful for videos like this one.

Hey Matt, I am long term follower of you and use your settings in both my A7SIII's. I recently bought an XPS17 9730 from 2023, it is a 13 Gen i9 with 64Gb Ram, 2Tb NVME and a second 8Tb NVME (yes, it does work). I really didn't want a 16" or smaller screen, particularly for editing. What I do is use a separate Uperfect O OLED 15.6" portable monitor as a preview for grading as its accuracy is second to none in the world of portable monitors. I also have a second Uperfect UFilm A17 true 4K 15.6" portable monitor as a media bin on the left side. I also use a Loupedeck CT. This is my mobile editing studio. Take care, Peter.

Hi Matt, I'm not computer savvy so your videos are such a huge help for me, so thank you.
The link you for this computer you provided only has a 512 GB. Is this the correct amount your suggesting?
I ask because most of your videos in the past always recommends upgrading to around 1TB of storage.
Just curious as I'm shopping for a laptop and thinking about purchasing the one you remember here. Thanks.

If you have the budget I would go with 1TB, but 512GB is okay as long as you edit from an external SSD or expand the storage later yourself.

Matt I have to laugh at this review. I bought the Dell Mobile Precision Workstation 7670 CTOG about 3 months ago loaded. It was a dog for video editing. I put the 3rd super fast SSD in as well. I am experienced in setting up a work station. When I called over and over the top tear expensive tech support (which were basically people who googled your concerns while on the phone with me} When I reported the computer, they wanted to send a guy to my house and I said great. The guy call me and said Save yourself, return it. He said if he came then it turns into a circus. Just send it back and run. He told me That these machines in the precision line up are junk and that is all he does 6 days a week is try and fix them. Dell in 2023 was nightmare and I'll never buy another Dell. This Co. is dead in the water across the board. I never bought a mac before as a professional video editor. After the dell, I bought the Leveno 9i rtx 4090 also did not cut it at all video editing wise, it was just OKt but even the upgraded screen was not all that. After 3 PC laptops I tried a the macbook m2 pro max. Night and Day difference. Don't get me wrong Matt I spend a lot of time on your channel and I have learned so much from it and you. That being said I have to wonder about you and this claim comparing the mac to pc for video editing. I speak from experience galore that they are not even close. Please video editors read below, this which I posted last week. Run from PC when it comes to video editing. VIDEO EDITORS READ THIS: After buying 3 windows laptops in the last 6 months for video editing I landed on MacBook pro max with 48GB ram. I bought the $4000 dollar Dell precision which I returned as it was a dog and riddled with problems. Then I bought 2 Lenovo's both loaded with 64gb of ram, one with the RTX4080 and one with the RTX4090. Sent them both back. I thought if I'm going to spend this kind of doe, I better be in video editing heaven. It was far from it heartbroken and in disbelief. No way I thought I am giving up. I'm going to try one more time and I ordered a Mac M2 pro max refurbished. I never wanted to learned a new system (is was easy), but I thought what the hell, give it a try. It was the best decision I ever made as using this MacBook was indeed editing heaven. NIGHT and DAY. I was so blown away I ordered the M3 max and I had them both together for 2 weeks. I was a madman studying and testing and figured out MEMORY PRESSURE on my own with the help of tech support and other videos. I had to figure it out on my own. The M2 had 64GB of Ram as opposed to the M3 with 48GB. Performance wise I found the M2 to do very well and similar to the M3 performance. With the M3 for a number of reasons the Max version is a much. Both kicking butt. I ended up sending the M2 back and there is no comparison to windows. A joke in my mind. The very top of the line windows laptop cannot even sit in the same room as a MacBook Pro max. I am very experienced and took the time for a decade or more trying to find the ultimate editing station. For video editing (I never game) If you hear UA-camrs trying to say differently, they are BS ing and most likely self serving. I am far far from a Mac fan boy. Just telling you the experience I had. I took all this time to write this to help some poor Bast__d like me avoid the 6 month nightmare I endured. But in the end I won. :)

Have to agree on this comment 100%. Tried different Win Laptops including Dells best and noise, heat, battery is a nightmare. Then finally after 20years switched to Mac. I don’t like the system software for a lot of things but hardware is just unbeatable. And honestly I thinks Matt knows it too and you can hear it between his words. This review still takes his credibility and it’s sad that it makes me not trust his other reviews anymore

@@sisyphos-or2lx Well its not only Matt. My experience with this over the last 6 months is that often we cannot rely on our big channels with out most beloved hosts. Other channels I've learned and lived on have said crazy things too. For once in my life I did it right. I returned 3..., 4 grand plus laptops and that took a solid 3 months. I am pro and I do have lots of experience. A WINDOWS MACHINE CANNOT compete when it comes to video editing. I have a major Windows i9 desktop and it's a joke compared to this Macbook I have. I feel like I out smarted the powers that be. :). Notice Matt has not responded, WHY? because he's a good biz man and he knows to just leave it alone and most likely won't see these posts. . But yes of course he knows and he's looking after his family. Hallelujah. Reviews can not be trusted on face value. Thanks for the comment @sisyphos

@@sisyphos-or2lx so true, there are many little things that drive me crazy about Mac software. And in someways, I miss windows for those things. But it’s not even a question if you’re editing video you’ll live with that. Because the performance is night night night and day. I’ve had the machine several months now and it still blows my mind on a daily basis. And all that nonsense with windows and the 3SSD workflow. OMG, not on my Mac doesn’t care about that
